[Q] Legitimate Jellybean? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Has anyone heard or seen legitimate proof that Jellybean will be coming to our phones in an OTA update? I'm with Rogers, not AT&T but the phones are interchangeable.
I know that all Google Nexus products kind of have first dibs on Jellybean but heard that the GS3 will be receiving it also. Asking my local Rogers employees is useless and scanning the internet is only reminding me that I can root and ROM it, something I've done before but had too many complications with to bother.
Anyone got any leads? Appreciate it.

Nothing legitimate, only rumor. Initially it was Q4,but that seems increasingly unlikely as the GS3 will get it before we do.
I'm guessing, honestly, that they're watching CM progress/support. I know other companies do that to determine if they will release something for a given device. Since we still have official support there, odds may be better; but really at this point Samsung is the only one that knows for sure.

Sprint has a leak and Samsung Sweden said November for international.

There is a thread discussion for jelly bean related in general section. But I think if we do get it, it won't be till next year some time.

Doesn't Sprint GS3 have the official jb?
From what I heard, the battery life is poor cause it's not well optimized.

Fat chance of the SR getting it before March. The AT&T S3 might not even get it until January.
Stock ICS on my S3

I was curious about this as well, But mostly for my GS III. Today while visiting with the AT&T Rep that I have been dealing with ONLY for the last 10 years, she confirmed to me that the SR will be getting the official JB update, but not to look for it available OTA until around mid Q2 2013 to early Q3.
Just as liquidzoo stated because of the activity for the skyrocket, and it is still having NEW sales AT&T has valued it in their support. JB of course will most likely be the LAST update that is handed down from AT&T for the SR. The S III is likely to get it's last update at JB as well. It was some good news, but even better she bought me lunch too.
Some times it pays to be loyal to a single rep, instead of just taking which ever is available. I wont let anyone else handle my account with AT&T aside of her.

Lies! AT&T's public lie, in the form of a tweet for GB

Guys, I'm sure a lot of you already know this, but I just checked my calendar... It's 31 August... and according to this OFFICIAL AT&T tweet:
twitter.c
om/#!/ATT/status/101385757410861056
(remove the spaces, I can't post links.)
Gingerbread would be delivered to us in August. Theres still 3 hours left in August for us in Pacific Time, but I highly doubt they will push it out then. I hate liars.
Welcome to AT&T crapwork! I don't remember seeing they said the update will be in August 2011, I think they said the update will be coming sometimes end of the month in August (who knows what year). You should try those i900 roms or mikymike's Rom, it is 1000 times better than AT&T stock GB (if AT&T decide to give one) and I'm sure you'll no be disappointed.

You're asking too much people. Can't have gingerbread and hdmi out? Tough luck, get over it. Flash a custom rom and quit your *****ing, it isn't helping anyone and is annoying.
Otherwise, you aren't cut out for android. Do us people who are grateful a favor and get an iPhone.

Thanks mod, sorry bout that.
You chose to pretend that an isolated offhand tweet by a low-level employee in response to a random question was AT&T's chosen method to make an official announcement of a binding prediction. Then you pretend to be outraged when you discover otherwise.

My 2 Cents
People,
We have awesome phones, If you need HDMI out your current option is using the Froyo builds (I don't know if any outside the factory builds have this because I have not looked at them), The GB update will be out when it's out or leaked. Until then we have great roms available thanks to our dedicated & tallented devs. Thank You Devs! Stepping off soap box now
Cheers
BR
Just question. You guys really care/use HDMI out to TV with the phone?

Heres is ATT's reply to me asking about the update
AT&T Hey Jacob - here's the deal: in July we announced the release of Android 2.3 OS upgrade. The Samsung Infuse 4G upgrade will occur in the future, and once the software has been released we will share information immediately. A tweet earlier about an August timeline was inaccurate, mistaking the Infuse for the Inspire which has already been upgraded and causing the confusion.
But not to worry, the individual responsible for the mistake has been pelted with gingerbread. For more information: [http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=20407&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=32234&mapcode=mobile-devices]
Yeah, the only official announcement I saw from at& t about the infuse and GB said "in the coming months, but definitely before years end" That announcement came from the horses mouth anyway. I'm not going to listen to tweets. I've been running gingerbread for almost a month anyway. (thanks gtg) with no data issues either, I must be lucky. If you're really concerned about HDMI out run infused 1.6, amazing rom, far superior to anything at& t will ever put out. If you're not going to load up a custom rom then be patient its definitely on its way.

It is not just about HDMI.
With AT&T official GB we can expect:
New radio and Ril which in turn provide stable connection.
Better camera
Of course HDMI
Some other tweaks.
and a good base for custom roms(not Pepsi in Coke bottle)
I was pissed that the update didnt come out yet but then once i flashed mikeys rom my gingerbread dreams were fullfilled...now my phone is awesome...

I've met some ignorant people but some of these posts are mind boggling. Like they manage to ignore the entire forum just to respond to a single post and give their opinion about att.. We only have about 6 or 8 leaks for new firmware on a pretty regular release schedule and an att announcement that we get GB in 2011 and several threads showing the infuse as a top seller but we get responses like these.

But seriously, I hear you Dani, I love my phone and can't understand why since the SG2 and Nexus and Atrix are out suddenly people call ours ****e? It is annoying. Our phone is top quality.
Besides, after reading the discussion in the leak threads about how the video issue came up with all of the modded kernels and most importantly the assumption that AT&T developers care about what we do here at the forums so much that they use us as guinea pigs(in a good way) they stopped releasing leaks until they were ready for the official, I just took those words for GOLD and decided we are waiting. 1) Yes, AT&T Doesn't give a damn about firmware updates.
2) The Infuse sold extremely well.
3) I've seen very little advertising on the Skyrocket, yet continue to see ads for the Infuse (as recently as this past week on TV and yesterday in a target flyer.)
I've decided I can live with the ROMS in our forums here and AT&T can kiss my shiny metal arse.
Well, not sure if this is any indication, but my local Walmart is selling infuse cases, as well as screen protectors, while there is nothing on the SGSII or Skyrocket. Honestly I think Samsung is spewing out more expensive versions of practically the same phone, and the Infuse is the OG in this siuation. *thinks of carbon copying phones, and sees a conspiracy theory!*
Since I follow these forums as well as the Xperia Play forums, my hypothesis is:
-They were testing GB
-They LOLragequit and decided to make all newer android phones upgradeable to ICS
-they plan on releasing ICS in January or February.
I know these are some out-there speculations, but AT&T tends to send firmware updates in batches, and it has been confirmed by Sony Ericsson that they are planning on ICS for the Play by February 2012.
Just my 2 cents on the matter.
What I think is that as usual att is behind schedule. Maybe Samsung put us off while developing a whole new line. Either way I doubt we will see official this month. but the idea we will never see it is just ignoring the evidence. They wouldn't be working on it so aggressively if they didn't intend to release it. Also since att probably only wanted one update the wait is kinda a good thing since we'll get at least 2.3.6 and not 2.3.3 like Rogers got.
I honestly don't think we will see gb officially. Bit I have had gingerbread on my phone for a while now
E3D
I think the Infuse is a decent phone.
Already fast.
Dual core means didily squat...to me, it a phone. If you want fast, get a tablet or netbook or laptop.
4.5" is just right in my back pocket or breast pocket.
GB leak is prob near completion.
I'm expecting a OTA within a month or two.
If it doesn't, UCKK4 stock is fine for me as well.
Some of the tweaks added to CatyROM (acid, thunderbolt or adrenaline) or some we can add ourselves may be better than the release....unless samsung has been follow the threads and incorporate them into the new release.
my2cents...
my next phone should have a neuro connection I can jam into my brain. It'll be instant like my thoughts. It'll run off my stored fat. And I will be assimilated

Right after the iPhone, and it would still be if it weren't for the new models.
What people don't seem to get, is that AT&T is also deving for the phone, they encounter the same issues that our devs encounter. Bluetooth issues, HDMI output, the only difference is that they are "Official Updates" because they are carrier released.
The only good conclusion about no leaks, is that it got it's kinks worked out and its in the final stages of testing to make sure no kinks were left untreated.

This could be very true. remember the backflip, that thing got its update to 2.1 like 4 months after it was planned. and to be honest, AT&T never said by years end. it said is 2011 android line will expect to receive gingerbread.

Customers who purchased an Android smartphone from AT&T introduced in 2011 can expect to receive an update to Android 2.3. All of these devices are planned to be upgraded from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3, also referred to as Gingerbread. In addition, Samsung Captivate™ owners will be able to upgrade to Gingerbread.

Samsung has been great about updating that device. Not getting gingerbread for those u.s. Phones is a carrier issue.
This is a manufacturer "retiring" a product. Which they are only required by google to keep the phones up to date 18 months after release. So this makes perfect sense.
I've read some conflicting reports that Samsung Galaxy S will be updated. Even if they don't were already using it, so big deal. The Nexus S has identical hardware to the Galaxy S variants except the Qualcomm (S plus)and TI (i9003)based ones. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect them to repeat what they've already done for the same hardware
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S-and-Galaxy-Tab-not-getting-ICS_id25061
Well looks like you were right and touchwiz is to blame. More reason why custom overlays should be abandoned for the sake of faster updates. Why they can't give pure ICS I don't understand!!?? ICSSGS RC1.0.1 is running buttery smooth on my phone so no biggie but so many people will miss out and its a shame. HTC claimed they couldn't put Sense 3.0 on the older devices and they recently updated the Desire HD and Incredible S so Samsung might change their minds and find a way to make it work after all Sony Ericsson are doing it on their phones.

Sad, would be nice if Samsung would release source code and let the developer community proceed with a full set of tools. Most caps are out of warranty anyway, and the ICSSGS and teamhacksung builds seem to be progressing nicely, but if Samsung could help them avoid any pitfalls on the way to release, would be an easy way for them to get goodwill.
---------- Post added at 10:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 AM ----------
One more thought, is the "Samsung is going to participate and collaborate with the XDA community, i.e., the SamsungJohn experiment, still around."
Seems like this would be the perfect out; Samsung provides source and tools to allow developers to build Nexus S equivalent ROMs for the Cap and other Galaxy S variants, and interested developers take it from there. Would be a great way for them to gain goodwill.
Yeah I don't understand why they keep the drivers closed source I mean a bug free cyanogenmod with awesome battery life sure would be nice since I can't even get a legit gingerbread update from at&t.

Don't bet on it. The 18 month pledge only applied to phones released after Google IO in 2011. I think it's safe to assume that no Galaxy S versions will get an official ICS from Samsung. CM9 is probably the best bet.
I really don't know why anyone cares is this any surprise? Aren't we all here mainly for custom roms anyway? All and all 18 months of support is pretty good and there is nothing in it for Samsung to give it to us anyway. Most people have already moved on, and if you haven't your probably out of warrenty so put a custom roms on, otherwise your probably close to the end of your contract or at least an early upgrade.
I don't think touchwiz is to blame here, I think that was just a pr move as they've already been under fire over updates anyway. I still wonder if we're getting gingerbread, I mean we've had leaked official roms since June, I almost think at&t doesn't want to waste the server bandwidth

ICS for Galaxy devices delayed?

So back in December, Samsung stated that ICS would be available for Galaxy devices in Q1 2012 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397850,00.asp - among other sources).
Someone asked on Facebook when the update for the Galaxy Nexus S was coming and Samsung stated that "ICS updates for Galaxy devices will be available in early Q2." (https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050)...
Idk, that may be a bit different because the Nexus S is in the original Galaxy S family. Those are going to be updated after all the Galaxy S2 devices. They actually weren't even going to release the update for those phones initially.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Some rumors said march first, which would be q1 and not going to happen. Some leaked document i saw said april which would be early q2. God knows what they are doing over there. I want aosp/cm9 anyway, but if they release ics it might help get us closer.
I am so sick of this too.....
From now on I am only getting Nexus Devices
I'm sick of it too, but used to it. They just released official Gingerbread for the Captivate (my previous phone) a few weeks ago after XDA users had been running leaked versions for several months. But the devs here on XDA already have (as I understand it) some pretty kickass ICS roms available for the Captivate.
Don't hold your breath waiting for AT&T/Samsung. We'll have ICS here on XDA long before they make it officially available (but...without a secure element we won't be able to use Google Wallet--not sure how they're going to solve that one...re-issued sim cards maybe?)
Sounds like it's all Galaxy devices:
https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050
That being said, I wasn't holding my breath either for an official release but figured when one came it might help speed up some things here on XDA or for the CM guys.
And yeah, I was running ICS on my Cappy for a couple months before it died (needed a new mobo so the cost of upgrading to the SGS II LTE was actually cheaper than the repair on my Cappy - go figure)... the official Samsung/Rogers upgrade cycle on the Cappy was horrendous as well, bought it with Froyo, an hour later had CM7 on it, and it wasn't long afte they updated officially to GB that I was running TeamHacksung ICS alpha builds on it.
We'll be lucky to get official ICS before Jellybean is released
That is Samsung mobile Canada stating that. So may be different for us in the states. But what I think is funny is the vivid is getting the update soon, and if I'm not wrong both phones came out on the same day. So no blaming this on the carrier this time. Damn Sammy LOL.

True, it is Samsung Mobile Canada - I wasn't expecting us (or the US) to get it in Q1 anyways (officially) as the original statement I believe was for the international versions of the Galaxy S II/Note. Still, was hoping that the international stock rom would help jump/fix kinks some of the developers here are trying to overcome.

So back in December, Samsung stated that ICS would be available for Galaxy devices in Q1 2012 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397850,00.asp - among other sources).

To clarify, they only said the international versions of the S II and the Note would get it in Q1. The others that were announced to get ICS have never been given a time frame, other than that they would follow those two.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on that point.

Yes, I do understand that fully. Not holding my breath that the international version will be rolling out any time soon either.
Looking into the dev forum there are two promising roms one in alpha 1 with basic functions working and another one that the mods and the dev keep fighting over is a lot further along but I think was taken down again :-(. I'm guessing we have about a month maybe a bit more before we have some awesome functioning ics rom's

Well Q1 is still not done with, we got a whole month for them to hopefully release.
technicalities... Huge companies always drag there feet, I almost guarantee the skyrocket dev community will have ics before everyone else
ICS is ready for deployment, Samsung is waiting for approval from Google.

He's probably right, if the galaxy nexus has it, with an SOC which isn't so dissimilar to ours, they're probably sitting on it. I was also over in the t989 forum and it was stated the kang Juggernaut devs got an ics samsung release leak but are sitting on it as well. If they have it, guarantee for our phones its done
I'm not doubting if someone can back it up but thats the dudes first post not very reputable

I was just speaking in common sensical terms lol, but yeah, first post is kinda shaddy if he meant it as a concrete statement. He has been lurking since July though

ICS update on the way for SGS2 9at least in Russia) - Samsung ready to deliver it and waiting for Google approval only (from Feb, 21)"

Android 4.2 and 5.0 touch wiz

And the rant begins...
Felt like venting to my fellow XDA members at how utterly ridiculous these lags in updates are.
How on earth does Google release android 4.2 Jelly Bean back in October 2012, and only TWO phones are currently running it?
Is Google being held hostage by each carrier so much to the point of a simple .1 update? What will it take for this nonsense to finally come to an end!?
Not to mention Verizon leaks 4.1.2 out this week and they removed premium suite....what exactly did this update offer?
I cant see a successful future for any of these companies or Google if this cancerous relationship between the OS and Carrier continues much longer.
And supposedly 5.0 key lime pie is coming in May?
What phones will be running 5.0 out of the gates if any? My guess is Galaxy S4 will drop with 4.2 or possibly even 4.1.2
Any thoughts?

Dude, the tbolt just got ics. We get it when we get it. And I assume it's mostly Verizon's fault.
Hope that didn't come off jerky.

They do this so you buy the new phones..
like HTC, just released the DNA.. was the flagship for like what a month, now the HTC M7 is the new hot thing and it's what the same exact phone but 4.7' rather than 5'. but it comes with sense 5.0..
thank god for root, other wise we'd be screwed,
yes officially the tbolt just got ICS but theyve been running that stable for some time now.
it's unfortunate, but at least we do have root, and phones like the HTC DNA that get screwed like that will be able to port the M7 sense 5.0 ROM to the DNA.
it is what it is and sucks lol, and I agree with above, it's mostly Verizon

God bless root!
I can't imagine Google is happy that less than 1% of all smart phones world wide are currently running their latest OS.
And I can't agree more.. Verizon is the problem.
I think all signs point to Google getting into the development of hardware... wouldn't it be nice to have a Google android store like Apple has the Apple stores?

My Xperia play only had a 2.3.4 update for gingerbread while every other Verizon has ics or jb , glad I unlocked and rooted my phone Verizon sux in terms of updates for phones but their coverage is decent

I Dont get why Google doesn't stand its ground. All phones should be running AOSP. I have actually grown to like touchwiz but if all phones ran AOSP, I bet updates would come quicker. May not be right away for companies like Verizon to add boat, but that's it. There's no standard. While that does add variety and choice, it also adds confusion. People ask me allllll the time about my sgs3, " is that a droid"? So annoying lol

But then it would just be like a iPhone same thing on different types of phones I personally don't mind all the different types of software which makes phones unique with running android
Btw I hate that too people think Droid and android are two different things. I had an argument with this girl about her wanting a Droid but talking about how android sucks. Lol

I LOVE touch wiz motion controls and general UI on top of the android OS.
It just kills me that Verizon doesn't at least keep each companies “flagship devices" (ie SGS3) up to date.
It's a big FU to all of us

Whatever the aosp release is at is basically a beta in everything but name. Its deployed to a small group of rather technical users where issues can be ironed out. Then months later everyone else gets the carrier's and manufacturer's refinements/adulteration of android. And repeat.
If you want to be in he new release club you need a Nexus or phone that's popular but long in the tooth so the hardware is pretty much mastered. If you buy a non nexus phone you sign up knowing full well that you are at the mercy of a 3rd party. This isn't 2010 anymore . the pattern is well established.

haha yeah. I had a girl who wanted a sgs3 but hated droids. I was like um...they're both android phones. I was like "droid" is just a advertising name for a lot verizon phones. Droid is just simply advertisement and basically that's it. Somehow that advertising got everyone thinking its apple, microsoft, blackberry, and "droids" lol

The x phone will be the first with klp. And if moto is allowed to do anything to that phone and put some gay layout on it because its not a nexus device I will not buy it. I'm sick of Verizon and im leaving them on may 15th. The galaxy nexus was the biggest disappointment in my eyes. (Nexus phone that Verizon withheld every update and various awesome accessories)
At least the s3 wasn't promising continuous updates, wireless docks and so on

Verizon is a member of the Open Handset Alliance. One of the founding members, I believe...
Hard to believe, based on their behavior.
When the Hell will they get it through their heads that they really don't need to be involved with much? I pay Verizon to provide a network (and ONLY a network), not hold my hand. I mean, really? Could a phone really harm their network if it hadn't passed through their approval and bloatware installation processes?

There are currently two phones running 4.2, The Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4. Just thought id clarify that.
Honestly I kind of doubt we will see any 4.2 action till way after the release of the S4... if at all.

Touche.. however I don't believe the Verizon Gnex has been updated yet.. which is RIDICULOUS.
I am almost willing to bet galaxy S4 launches with 4.1.2 premium suite

I'm almost willing to bet it drops with 4.2. I'll give you a breakdown.
Does Google handle the customer service if a Android device has issues? No. Who does? Either the carrier or the manufacturer. That being said, there needs to be documentation of every single little thing done in an update in order for proper support on both ends of distribution. Customer service has to be trained along with tech support and any type of sales person, which takes time and money. On the software side it seems Samsung is pretty solid. We've gone from 4.0.4 to (soon) 4.1.2 with a total of (correct me if I'm wrong) 4 updates and this phone hasn't even been out for a year. When it comes to the "premium suite" did you ever consider the possibility that the test build that we have is simply "bare?". Makes things easier to troubleshoot if you don't pack in every single little feature to begin with.
You have to remember that you don't pay for the updates themselves. Yes, you paid for the phone but when you buy a Windows 8 laptop are you going to get mad because you won't get the next version for free? I don't speak for other manufacturers but have to say Samsung is doing a pretty damn good job with keeping us updated. Sorry, had to rant. Just irritates me.
Oh, and yes, they do it in order to sell more phones. But, can you blame them? Samsung is doing everything they can to stamp Apple out. That means releasing a flagship phone that will be the first of that manufacturer to launch with the newest software version.

Don't be sorry. There is some truth in what you have said. Our device has made the jump from ICS to JB which I am very thankful for. Kudos to Samsung there.
My issue is that the S3 and Note 2 are in my opinion the best phones to date... and the carriers are so stupid that they can't communicate with Google and prepare customer service for the release of the new OS on or near its release date... Then Google will announce android 5.0 just as the carriers are getting 4.1.2 or 4.2 .
I understand they want to keep the customers wanting more.... but at some point I feel that Google start developing hardware and move on.
Apparently Samsung has already begun the opposite..

Haha, yeah. I just didn't want to come across negative. thanks for being understanding. I do understand your frustrations. I don't see 5.0 dropping for awhile. Google said its going to slow down a bit in their releases because Jellybean is beautiful. It brought fluidity to a "fragmented" market and while only two phones officially have 4.2, jellybean is gaining a share of the updates. I think it and ICS almost comprise 50% of the market share for Android versions which is amazing in my opinion.
You know what I'd love? I'd love for the Galaxy S IV to use the new graphine dipped batteries. Can you imagine that with 2gb of RAM and just a revisioned Exynos Quad Core? It could run at a constant 1.0ghz minimum on each core with the screen on so that multitasking would be beautifully smooth and would be easier on battery life since tasks could start and end quickly. But, anyway, If Google is going to go directly into hardware they'd have a good start. I'd love a Nexus phone to rock a MAXX battery and a 1080p AMOLED. If I recall the new AMOLED that will be in the GS4 uses 25% less battery. The combination would be ermahgerd.
Also, didn't Samsung already try another OS? pretty sure Bada didn't do too well lol.
