[Q] Go Back To ICS 3.Whatever - HTC Sensation

Hi all,
First time post so sorry in advance if I screw something up. Here is my situation. I have a T-moble US HTC Sensation 4g all stock and I upgraded to their Android 4. After that I found out the hard way T-mobile wants to charge for tethering / Hotspot and the Android 4 update now allows them to shut it down ... unless of course you pay an extra $15 a month.
So my journey to go back to the old Android begins. I first tried several RUU because I thought this would be the easiest way to go but I had no luck. I tried:
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed.exe = No Luck
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.29.531.2_Radio_10.42.9007.00P_10.11.9007.15_M_release_193714_signed.exe = No Luck
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.27.531.2_Radio_10.42.9007.00P_10.11.9007.15_M_release_192098_signed.exe = No Luck
RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_TMOUS_3.32.531.14_Radio_11.69A.3504.00U_11.23.3504.07_M2_release_256085_signed.exe = No Luck
So I then I looked into a custom Rom hoping someone has worked this out already. I got the phone rooted and flashed:
Blitz ICS Sense 3.6 v.3.6.0 (Stock Look) because I thought I read something in the forms that said this would fix the tether issue. It didn't seen to. I am now lost and I am looking for some advice.
All I want is my tethering back. I don't care if I go back to the stock Android version before T-mobiles crappy block software or a custom Rom.
Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
I am not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try.
follow THIS GUIDE to install a ROM.
Then,go HERE
See if that unlocks your APN,so that you can tether once more.

Yes I think this is what i am looking for. Thank you for your help. If I may I would like to ask a couple of follow up questions. Would you know why none of the RUU's worked? They all said:
ERROR [155] UNKNOWN ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
Also do you have any recommendations of which ROM to use? Thanks again.

Ah yes sorry. I have:
Pyramid PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1111
RADIO_11.23.3504.07_M2
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0131
eMMC-boot
cid: T-MOB010
By the way:
I followed the links you provided and read more about the ANP fix by Grogg and found that he also has a custom Rom.
So I figured why not just use his ROM with the fix built in. I flashed: [ROM]&[KERNEL] Beats by GROGG [ICS 4.0.3] [SENSE 3.6]
and everything works like a charm. T-Mobile should be ashamed for exploiting their customers, but you guys saved the day.
Thanks again!!!!!!

[Q] HTC Inspire 4G - rooting help please!

First, please forgive my stupidity on a variety of levels as this is my first post and I recently came from the Jailbreaking scene of my iPhone 3GS but have very little knowledge in the Android area - which is why I came here.
I just purchased a used AT&T HTC Inspire 4G off eBay. I would like to root it and run the latest stable Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM, and unlock if possible. Assuming it is running stock 2.3, I would like to root, unlock and flash a clean custom ROM onto it as soon as I receive it in the mail (2-3 days).
I HAVE searched online for tutorials, but have only found crappy, fuzzy, outdated Youtube videos by 12-year-olds, and therefore am not sure exactly what to do. So if I could get someone's professional guidance on how to root, unlock, flash, and what ROM to use, I will be eternally in your debt.
P.S. I'm not entirely new - I have flashed a number of Windows Mobile ROMs, done plenty of iOS hacking, flashed an Android tablet, and do plenty of dev-testing on my PSP.

Hey, check out attn1's root kit! Got my Inspire rooted in about 5 mins
Link is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
Also, there's an IRC channel that is listed in the thread if you need any help.
Donations are appreciated!
General premise is that you'll need to S-OFF (remove HTC NAND security), then root.
Removing the NAND is usually handled by an XTC Clip (hardware) or Revolutionary (software) method. Some others do exist, just look for the 'S-OFF' thread in the Inspire section to get you started.
Once that's complete, use either the rootkit mentioned above, or something like SuperOneClick to obtain actual root.
Good luck!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe attn1's root kit does everything for you including S-Off..

I have no doubt your are right my friend , I was just providing a little insight on why there's more than one step involved. I also ran into rooting issues using the Vivid toolkit, which were fixed with SuperOneClick.
That said, definitely try the rootkit first. They're a killer starting point
Just make sure you read the effin manual. If you don't, you won't be able to root it with the hack kit. And you won't get ANY help with it if you don't read the manual.

Just got the Inspire 10 minutes ago, so I assume go ahead and use the root kit? Then what would be the best ROM for Ice Cream Sandwich to install? Again, I know how to use Google, just want to have an expert opinion on it... Thanks!
Edit: Just ran the rootkit, and flashed ICS 4.0.3 onto it... Booting now!
There are many great ROMs that exist within the forums. I prefer cynagonmod but of course your mileage may vary.

I have reason to believe my phone is sufficiently bricked... I did follow the instructions in effin_manual, but something must have messed up. I can get to the boot menu (volume down+power) but anything beyond that crashes. Is there any way I can flash this back to stock and start over?
I found this, but the link is dead...

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
UPDATE: Flashed it back to stock 2.2. Before I do anything else, what is the most recent, stable UNLOCKABLE firmware available? Thanks so much!

First, If you have read the effen manual you would have known what to do in you case.
If your phone was shipped with Gingerbread and you flashed a froyo RUU you are in trouble...make sure that your cell is working properly before trying to flash a custom rom or you will get jammed. By the way, brick means that your phone is useless and were not bricked....the Hack Kit works beautifully as long as you follow instructions. Also, make sure that you are S-OFF and Rooted before attempting to flash a custom rom....
The phone was shipped with Froyo, and I just restored it back to that.
I had ICS 4.0.3 flashed, but the unlock was not compatible with it and I got a nice little message from AT&T about that. They haven't started charging me yet, but I would like to do something about it before they do.
So can ICS be unlocked at all? Or what is the most recent firmware that can be unlocked?

I got a text from ATT this morning saying "Congratulations on your 4G smartphone! 4G data and message rates may apply." I checked online and it was still on my 200 MB iPhone plan, so hopefully it stays that way. My bad, just wanted to make sure it was unlocked.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA
Not sure why you would want to unlock an att phone to use on att.people unlock it to use on other carriers like say T-Mobile.
As to the text, since the inspire is an att phone they will recognize it and will change your data plan accordingly. There really isn't a way around that. I don't remember their being a 200mb iPhone plan but its been a while. But it might be as easy as giving them a call and switching it over and keeping the same plane just named differently.

Welcome to someone who has ATT and is just recalling his experience with it:
1) You can change your data plan up till the end of the billing cycle for that SAME cycle.
2) 200mb is the minimum data plan and you have to (in theory) be on a data plan to have a smartphone on their network.
Moving on to non-ATT stuff
3) You may want to do a little bit of reading and understand the difference between root and unlock.
4) I'll be nice and link a thread with that insight: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076720
5) ... >.<
I got it working with my 200MB data plan and running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3. Thanks for all the help!

Hey guys,
JUst wondering where i can get the official HTC Desire S stock rom from for my device.
I've tried about 4-5 stock RUU's and non of them seem to work, they load into the bootloader then say error.
I dont know how to check what rom i had or need but the ones i tried where what others had tried for the same device...like froyo, bravo, WWE and cdsm a think.
I might be going way wrong somewhere but if anyone could point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated.
I'm keeping the rooted rom for now but incase i ever need to take it into the shop, its always there to reset the phone
Thanks again

[Q] Want to upgrade my HTC Sensation to Android 4 - Lost in technology words

Hello everybody,
My phone:
HTC Sensation Z710e (free) rooted
Android version 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
My target:
Be able to upgrade my softweare to Adnroid 4 using the automatic update feature built on the phone.
The problem:
My phone is rooted, and after downloading the update for my phone (using the official feature), it's beeing blocked after reseting. According to some messages I've found, this happens because my phone is rooted.
Questions:
Do I have to unroot the phone in order to be able to use the update manager?
Is there another way or suggestion to get my target?
Before writing this email I did google for the answer with no success. The problem is there are lots of concepts and words and I get lost, could you please be clear explaining the ideas? This message would be a good help for users like me in the future.
I will apreciate any kind of help
Thanks in advance

in order to get official update you have to be 100% stock and yes also unrooted
another way is to S-OFF your device with revolutionary.io (i assume your hboot version is 1.1x depending of your android version)
then install the 3.32fw,install 3.33fw and then the rom you want
best wishes

it means as the phone came from the manufacturer, so no rooting, no addition software installed or removed. It is quite risky going back to S-On and installing a stock rom. I would not suggest it unless you are planning on returning your phone for a repair...
the key thing is to unroot your phone, most superuser applications have this option in. Also you can delete the superuser.apk from /system/app
hope this helps
Edit: Nevermind

[Q] Help! Installing Moonshine, I am Currently in Custom ROM(SaturnIII)

Hi Guys,
I am currently on saturn 3 custom rom, and I wanted to go to stock ICS and start new. Yes I found a topic to get to ICS using RUU but with S-OFF
Also I Found a topic to get S-OFF using moonshine, When trying to get S-OFF by Moonshine there is a warning that I should not be in ANY Custom ROM, What should I do first so I can install moonshine.
I am new in the forum so I cant post it in where moonshine topic exist. please someone help. I am experiencing hanging with this rom so i am fully decided to back to stock
If moonshine don't work for you, you can try rumrunner.us.
Make sure you follow the instructions!
In case, i offer also stock 4.1.2 roms for k2u & k2ul.

Hi thanks for your reply, I have tried it but I cant s-off it also using rumrunner.. If you give me the stock 4.1.2 can i update the phone via OTA to get 4.2.2 just like the unmod phones? Whatever may be the answer please send me the link to the stock rom.. Thank you very much! I am using K2_UL with HTC__044 cid
PS: thanks for your Saturn III, but I had a problem with the ROM, occurred twice, it stucked in boot logo the one with the saturn planet picture. and never gone to a usable phone, All I have to do is to factory reset the phone and delete all files. I happened twice (
This can have many reasons, but most people report its stable.
Anyway, i don't work anymore on this old base.
Follow the link in my signature, to get the links for stock rom, because i'm away from my pc. Look under Jelly Bean 4.1.2 roms.
But i doubt, you will have success with OTA update with it. Failed already for others before! I still recommend thr S-off way.
At least some words: rumrunner is confirmed working with Saturn III, so i guess you have to check your configuration.
