[Q] Which radio for my One XL on Vodafone network? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi
I want to try another radio in hope it helps with my network issue (in the area where I live I have __sometimes__ troubles with data connection)
I am on Vodafone Australia network using HTC One XL on cm10 ( cm-10-20121011-NIGHTLY-evita.zip )
- Tampered
- Unlocked
- Evita PVT Ship S- On RL
- HBOOT-1.09.000
- Radio-0.16a.32.09.17_2
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1694012 but I don't know which radio is the best for me ( not sure if Vodaphone is Vodafone). Also I am not sure how to flash the radio because of the version of hboot. Do I need to upgrade hboot?
Can I use Telstra radio for Vodafone network?
Thank you
R,

You can flash it directly through recovery. Just go test out some radios and see what you like
and yes, you can even use the telstra radio

So I download radio zip file. Booot into recovery, select the zip and flash? Is that correct?
Can I make a backup of the the radio. Only of the radio?
So I download the radio from the list provided in the other thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012

So nothing can go wrong when using 'wrong' radio?
Do I need to (or is it better) to flash both radio and rom. Let's say if I go for latest cm build?
Thank you

So the only change is R ---> R2?
Ok, let's open it and see...
System.img is exactly the same. Ufff... I was afraid that I will have to spend another 24h upgrading my ROM
Radio.img is the only difference.
I think this is the RUU to match the OTA, as previously released RUU didn't match OTA when in comes to radio.
Isnt this the same radio though as the one in the other thread?
For the dumb people hereee....
This is the full RUU of the R2 OTA update.
So not the update.... but the full ROM!!
Radio
Could someone rip the radio for flashing please? Or is that the same aswell just renamed due to it being a RUU?

Well, I can't tell you which difference there is, but I have checked something: Both have the same size, but R(1) of the radio has an MD5 checksum of...
d3809958c8fad8211d20f97eeede2a1a
...whereas the radio of R2 has a sum of...

So there is indeed a difference between those radio images. Don't ask me which...

You should compare the basebands not the hboot. Check under settings -> about. You can update your baseband to the latest by flashing the newer radio. But keep your hboots where they are for now, DON'T use a OTA update or RUU.

Do not update the hboot unless you want to jump through hoops to flash roms. I have seen many complain of issues with hboot higher than 1.09. Highly recommend leaving it alone. I am on 1.06 and never have problems like the updated ones.

In which country are you living?
If it's somewhere in Europe (sparda?! - maybe Germany ) the latest radio is 1.06s.50.02.27_2_10.08.50.04L.
Anyway you should keep your current hboot so. Just flash the radio. If you want, send me a PM and I'll give you a link to a cwm backup I made right after my RUU Update. It's untouched (no personal settings etc.), only with Super SU in \system, so you will have everything like as you'd run the RUU update and rooted your device.
Please learn more about the 4.04 update here.

I appreciate your advise. I discovered that I am also on 1.06 HBoot and was thinking that I had to do an OTA update to get the latest radio. So now I should be able to find a radio update and flash it in CWM.
-------------
Half an hour of searching later, I've come to conclude that the only way to update the radio is via the RUU update process. I haven't found any newer radio that is flashable. So I don't really think there is any way to keep my 1.06 hboot AND update the radio.
if you are using cwm you need to fastboot it if using twrp recovery you can flash thru recovery

The radios on the Cyanogenmod site (first link) are from the 1.78 base. I am using TweakDroid 7.1 which is from the 2.21 base and so I want the most recent radio that goes with that base. Your second link to the dropbox gives me hope... What is it? Dated July 19, would this be the one from the newer base?

Which radio to flash?

I have terrible reception, and I realize I haven't flashed a new radio since I had this phone. Currently rooted/unlocked FW1.85 running Newts JB v2.00 (Jellybean and Sense 4+)
My radio is ATT 1.85 (0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L)
a box of kittens linked me to the radio thread, but im not sure which one to flash, can anybody help me real quick?
Thanks!
Anyone of the radios from your carrier will work. Just depends on how well it will work. There should be a Google maps link for radio compatibility. Its hit or miss really. If your Hboot is below >1.14 ie 1.09 etc then you can flash in recovery and try them on for size.

The radio does not have to be from your carrier. You can flash any radio on any network (well, I shouldn't say "any radio" on "any network" because I'm not POSITIVE that's true, but I've flahsed several non-AT&T radios and have no problems on AT&T's network.

That's pretty true. As long as its a radio meant for our device, it will work. Whether it works the "best" or not is based more on your very specific geographic location, more than carrier. So I've had instances where the best radio for my device was not the one for my carrier. Pretty sure I'm on a non-AT&T radio right now, and have been for months.
In addition to what you learn from the map, newer radios might be a good place to start. HTC is continually trying to make improvements to the radios with each new one. But again, it doesn't always pan out that way, and not a sure thing.

I'm pretty sure that cm10 takes its radio from a non protected partition, hence why it's a different radio that needs to be installed. And I think they are non hboot dependant. But I don't run aosp so I'm not positive.

This may be a hassle, but could you please guide me on how to S-OFF? I'm sick of these damned 2G speeds and am willing to do whatever it takes to get my 3G working again. Or if CM is easier, which ROM would make my 3G work?
Actually, thanks for the info, I flashed bilal_liberty's CM 10.2 Stable ROM. Been managing a healthy HSDPA connection. Hopefully this will last. I shall let you know if anything goes wrong.
