[APP][From Jelly Bean 4.2] Gmail from Android 4.2 - Android Apps and Games

Hi everyone,
Here is the Gmail.apk extracted from a Nexus 4 system dump and de-odexed. It will not work on non-rooted devices. As far as I know, it includes the swipe-to-delete/archive gestures.
Instructions:
Just paste the apk into /system/app, replacing your old Gmail apk or Gmail2.apk.
If the one already there is called Gmail.apk, rename it before pasting.
Set permissions to rw--r-r (644).
Hit the thanks button if you liked it and if it worked.

Is this one any different than the one leaked a few weeks ago? ie, a newer build?

Anyone have trouble with video playback?

I'm not sure, since I don't have a rooted device. But you can check through settings if it's the same one.

[APP] Google Mail 2.3.2

Hi,
attached is the new version of gmail.
with friendly greet

i have rooted Desire with AuraxTsense rom ... g mail is "locked" to the rom so i can't uninstall it or update...
is possible to have a renamed .apk (just like for googl maps "brut modded") so i can install both and then use the updated one? or where i can found it? tnx
I have this on my Vibrant but it still doesn't have the priority inbox feature.
I managed to find the apk on one of the Samsung forums shortly after its announcement - using a MIUI build on my HD2, and it didn't like pasting the new Gmail over the old one in /system/app/, nor removing the old one and pasting the new one - it was still showing the previous version without the priority inbox and so forth. To fix this, I had to restore the original Gmail apk that I'd backed up, then clear data from the settings/applications menu, then paste the new apk, then install over it from the market.
Native Android users will need to be rooted to do this, if it wasn't obvious.

You should be able to remove the original with Titanium Backup, then you should be good to go.
You people do know that this is available from the Market, and will update the version in your phone's /system folder just fine.
Right?

Apparently they don't... I updated it yesterday here from the market, although I don't use the GMail app at all...
The update is not yet available to everyone. TBH I cannot see most of the Google apps in the market myself.
This is just an opportunity for those less fortunate to mess around with it.

[APP] Google Talk from 2.3.4 extracted: NOT WORKING, Help Needed!

Hi everyone,
I downloaded the extracted .apk from latest Google Android release 2.3.4
The .apk is atached below.
I have had no success in installing the app on my 2.3.3 ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S. I tried pushing it to /system/app via Root Explorer, but once you try to install package it just doesn't install by saying "Aplication not installed".
Im no dev or whatsoever,so I would encourage anyone who could help to make it work on 2.3.3, Google stated in Google Mobile Blog that Google Talk with Video Chat will be for 2.3+ devices, so it "should" work on 2.3.3.
Any help is appreciated! Share your thoughts!
Try pushing it into system/app and then change permissions. Reboot and post result.

I doubt that it will work until you upgrade the OS version to 2.3.4, it might be integrated with os changes.

That was my first thought too, but after downloading the entire update it looks like that might not be the case. There aren't a ton of changes in there, and only two updated system apps. One of which is gtalk, the other is an nfc app(for supported devices obviously). I haven't looked through anything else yet(I'm slacking off enough at work as it is), but it would appear the changes are minimal.
Edit: found a new libtalk_ini.so file in /system/lib/
That may help? Anybody have time to try?
I really wish I knew how to do this stuff. I would love to give it a try but I'm so lost! Time to do some reading! LOL
The manifest for this apk says the target and minimum sdk version is 10, which is 2.3.3....so there's a good chance that after some deodexing and supporting files this will work no problemo
That's the key. It should work on 2.3+ as stated by Google, so I think i'ts up to deodexing and adding the proper files. Sure someone experienced can do it

Generally, yes.

HTC Hero with Cyanogen 7.0.2
Btw, its very possibly its simply running the standard install of Talk.apk instead of Talk2.apk... I'll try removing the Talk.apk...
-- Confirmed. I removed the Talk.apk from the system/app/ folder... lost my Talk icon in the launcher. Rebooting; maybe it will showup after reboot.
-- Ok, now I'm not completely convinced that you can get rid of Talk.apk when you push Talk2.apk. They both may have to be there.

disabling Administrator controls for Exchange policy

Hi guys!
I have a question....right now i have my work exchange account setup on my phone. The administrator policy requires that i set a 8 digit passcode in order to get into my phone everytime i need to use is. this is EXTREMELY annoying. Is there anyway to "hack" or get around it so i dont need to enter a passcode anymore, but the exchange server still see's the policy on my phone? Just curious. Thanks!
You dont mention what version you running on your phone (GB or ICS), but there are options for this. Here is one someone modded the Email to make the backend think the policy is in place but the requirement for having a pin is removed. But this is for GB I believe.

Are you running the stock ICS? Or some custom ROM for ICS? Which version, you need to be a bit more specific.
There are ROMs already created that have these Email.apk's modified for bypassing the Exchange Policy, but some you have to do that rom, others you could pull the APK and put it into yours (if you are deodex'ed of course).
Like here is one that has it already removed.

sorry for not providing all info, im running Custom Rom, SkyICS 4.2E, and it is deodexed
Then you can pull the two Email APKs from the Romracer ZIP and push them onto your phone via ADB or Root Explorer or however you want, make sure permissions and ownership is set right, and that should take care of it.

Thanks a bunch. One last question (for now) Do you know what the permissions need to be setup as?
Permissions on any app/apk you dump into /System/App (which is where these two APKs for the email need to do) need to be set to RW-R--R-- and ownership has to be "root:root".

crud, the email apk is the stock email app Will this work with any of the google ICS email apks?
What you mean? If you replace the two email APKs it will bring the Samsung Native email app. If you want the Google (AOSP style) one then you will need to find a rom or say even a Galaxy SII based custom rom where someone has modified the APK to remove the exchange policy.
If you search you will probably also run across a thread (cant find it right now) where it actually shows you how to decompile and modify the APK itself to remove the policy, then recompile it.

Here you go, from CM9 20120614 nightly build, modified to disable exchange security: cm9-email-exchange-4.1-nosec.zip
Note: This is NOT CWM flashable, you'll need to extract the 2 apks from the zip and copy / push to system/app.

Android 4.2 apps working with RR v1 JB (XXLS2)

Android 4.2 apps have started flowing in. Many are worth giving a try. Few assorted which I tried and working fine on RR V1 JB by eybee1970. Thanks to him for this great rom.
I will keep on updating this list as apps come in.
1. Android 4.2 Keyboard With Gesture Typing -- thanks to mrmako777 for sharing.
2. JB4.2 Camera - Patched (photosphere working) (Video recording gives FC)
3. Gmail 4.2 leaked (Swipe to Delete and Pinch Zoom) -- Thanks to mrmako777 for sharing (for apk, google is friend)
4. DeskClock apk -- Thanks to asdfzz for sharing
5. Android 4.2 Launcher APK -- thanks to TheDarkDefender for sharing
Thanks to deveshmanish for sharing following apps here
6.Google Earth
7.Email(not gmail)
8.Play Store
9.Voice Search for Play Store
10.Quick office v5.7.2
11.Play music
12.Play Magzine
13.Play books
and finally for CM10 and other AOSP/AOKP ROMS a chunk of 150+mb
14. All Google apps thanks to Garner for sharing it here
How to install
1. in case you have patience, and got hold of CWM flashable zip then you know how to flash
2. in case you are lazy like me or dont want to reboot and have root file explorer, just push the files to appropriate folder (if you cant figure out folders then better stay away, it can be hazardous also), change permissions and owner. (Yeh.. some time still i need to reboot, so much of pain to fingers )
How i push apks and libs to system (if 5 or less files, otherwise i prefer CWMflash method):
1. using root explorer extract needed file
2.move extracted files to /system
3. Go to /system, select individual file, long press and select permissions menu
4. change permissions to rw-r--r-- i.e. all rows in "read" column, "owner" row in "write" column and none in "execute" column, once permissions selected press ok
5. select same file, long press and select change owner from displayed menu. change owner and group as "root"
6. once all files are changed for permissions and owner, move them to appropriate /system/lib or /system/app folder. You should move libs first to /system/lib
7. if there more files then i prefer to use CWMflash method. attaching template that can come handy. you have to unzip template, place apks and libs in appropriate folders and zip it again them so that "system" folder is in root of zip file structure.
Edit: 02Nov- link to Camera/Gallery modified for patched file
Edit: 03Nov- link to Deskclock.apk and launcher added
Edit: 04Nov- link to few more
Edit: 05Nov- Link to complete GApps:good:
In case there is any release that i have missed, let me know. i can add it to list as one place to refer for G Note community.

You may have to try it out. I like RR v1 so much, don't want shift just to try new app
Its not that very tough. If you have file explorer with root browser, you may just push the files to appropriate folders and change permissions and owner. If required reboot
Hope that helps.

Changed it to code 644 rw-r--r on lib files and apks. Camera works fine, but at the end of rendering panorama it still FCs. Video recorder also seems to be freezing up after a few seconds of recording. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Google AOSP Email App

Is it possible to get this app running on our G3? I don't like the stock email app it doesn't handle contacts correctly with exchange.
I figured it out. I placed both files in System/App and gave them permission 0644. RW-R-R. Rebooted and Android upgraded and the Email was there.

Thanks man!! I know I must have sounded stupid describing the yellow @ sign!! Actually the @ sign and the letter are both yellow. The envelope is open and the color is white (See attached picture). I'm just so used to using that email app on Samsungs!!
I read that the stock email app was available on the playstore, but I wasn't able to find it. I'm guessing I wasn't able to because I'm using the G3, idk!
I'm gonna follow the steps you posted about placing the files and tinkering with permissions. Looking forward to seeing it works.
Thanks again!

Will anything nasty happen if I just install them as a normal app rather than a system app? I just clicked on the apk and installed like normal and it seemed to work fine, but wanted to make sure there weren't any unforeseen security issues.
