need help rooting my evo 4g .... - General Questions and Answers

I know it's an old phone but I wanna root it. it's got gingerbread 2.3.5, hboot 2.18. I've tried the htc dev method, I'm having trouble b/c my device manager isn't saying htc bootloader under android devices, it just says "my htc", unfortunately b/c of the firmware I can't use unrevoked, so I've been trying this method. I've tried downloading the htc drivers, yet I still can't get the token info from the cmd prompt. Is there an easier way to do this, or at least a fix for my problem?

[Q] Unrevoked doesn't work for me!

Hi, everyone. I tried to root the HTC Gratia/Aria.
On windows (NOOBZ: The EASY guide to rooting your Aria and Installing Attn1's ROM (Win XP/Vista)) the program remains on "Waiting for root" and if I reboot manualy it fails. So I have tried with linux: I used a bootable usb (Ubuntu LiveCD with ADB and Unrevoked Recovery installer(Guide)). Again no luck : the terminal says "Error: n = -1,errno = 19 (No such device)" and the program gives me "Internal error: failed to unlock nand flash".
Any Hint??How can I root the Gratia/Aria?
Thx for all,
Nando

There are a couple of things that may be coming into play here.
1. Is this really an HTC Gratia and is it running Android 2.2? If so then Unrevoked can not root this version at this time.
2. If by luck you actually have an Aria and it is still running Android 2.1, then you need to download and use Unrevoked 3.21. The most recent version of Unrevoked 3.31 has an issue with some Android 2.1 devices such as the Aria.
Ops...I have an HTC Gratia with Android 2.2...I'll be waiting for news.
Thx for all!
Is it just the HTC Aria (S31HT, by Emobile in Japan, running 2.2) that has a write protection on the system folder, or is this the issue with all HTC Aria models running 2.2?
Several Japanese pages contain comments that due to this fact this specific model might never be rootable.

It woiuld seem that any HTC Aria/Gratia that is shipped with 2.2 (or more specifically HBOOT 1.0) is not rootable at this point.
Yes the hboot is what is holding you up. The hole they used to root the older hboots has been plugged. So you are just going to have to wait.
I see. Thank you both for confirming that for me.
that's happening to me too
hi, my friend wants to root his aria but he's got the same NAND unlock problem..
his aria came with 2.1 and he then got the official upgrade to 2.2.
this thread suggests that the hboot is the problem but surely an upgrade to 2.2 wouldnt change the hboot?
pls help
EDIT: he seems to have hboot 1.02.000 which means that he won't be able to root?

yes the official upgrade to 2.2 WILL change the hboot so no, he cannot root.

unlocked bootloader but now having problems rooting

hello everyone i just recieved an htc sensation as an insurance phone since my g2x stopped working . i loved that phone and it was super fast but this is all t-mobile said they could give me. Anyways i have it and now i wanna flash different roms lol.
So i went through the process of getting the code from htcdev.com and unlocking the bootloader. But now when i try and root it from the "HTC All in One Rooting Tool Kit" using the one_x program, it doesnt work. It lets me reboot into recovery but then when i click on the root button and press enter in cmd box all it says is device not found or something like that. So my question is, is when its in bootloader can the computer still recognize the phone from the usb cord or is there something else i should do first?
think i have the same problem
hey, just got my brand new htc today, i have been able to unlock my bootloader via htcdev, all went well....but s-on my hboot is 1.27.0000 which is the issue!!!
from what i have found currently revolutionary method for s-off isnt currently supported.....
i have ICS installed 4.0.3, dam you carphonewarehouse lol
still searching and looking, does anyway have any further info, how to s-off,ROOT, or install a custom rom? or do i just have ti wait???

[Q] Help changing my CID back to 1111111

A while back I attempted to root my phone on my Macbook Pro. I sort of gave up half way through because I was unable to find a tutorial detailed enough to unlock the bootloader. Basically, what I did was change my CID to 1111111, and then I did a factory reset hoping that to OTA Jellybean update would have been sent out from AT&T. Scratch that.... When I use the CID Getter app, it says that my CID is back to the stock "CWS__001," and now I have access to a computer running Windows 7 64bit... I am using this video tutorial.
I am able to backup my phone two times, but when it tries to fetch my CID, it says that it has already been unchanged. That is as far as I am able to go... I still have the token from when I tried rooting the first time, and htcdev.com has sent me the unlock_code.bin. I tried to just go ahead and run it via command prompt, but it just says "waiting for device." I know that the drivers are installed correctly and up to date, HTC sync isnt showing up in my task manager under processes OR service, the device is in USB debugging mode, I have tried it without disable fastboot before rebooting it in bootloader mode, and I have tried it disabled as well. I am stuck here. Am I going to have to try and flash a RUU or whatever, because I am new to rooting android devices. I am pretty savvy when it comes to this sort of stuff, but I am at whits end... What should I do?
What do you mean by "factory reset"? A factor reset or running the RUU will not change the CID.
It seems you meant to link a video, but didn't, so I'm not sure what procedure or tools you are trying. I would advise trying the all-in-one toolkit to temp root and change the CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426
My other advice would be to read up on the actual guides posted here on XDA, rather than rely on video walkthoughs that just spoon feed you the steps without actually requiring you learn anything.
SuperCID doesn't prevent you from getting the AT&T OTA (although root and unlocked bootloader will). So if you've actually changed back to the AT&T CID, it was for nothing.

[Q] at&t Htc One x ruu update stuck on sending

Hello,
i got two Htc one x devices. i wanted to upgrade both to latest firmware 3.18
im outside of at&t so i am using RUU.
with one of the devices it works perfectly
with the other i got stuck in the sending screen
The device is on stock 1.85 firmware (4.0.3 android) , bootloader is "Locked" and S-ON
tried again the same via fastboot and again got stuck on sending
so i decided to root the device in order to flash it with OTA update
i tried two methods : using xFaction xploit which it failed when trying to execute "pwn" file
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167 where it hangs on trying to push busybox
also it seems that adb sometimes think my phone is offline while it's on "charging only mode" and then i have to disconnect it and reconnect it
and it works fine when on "hard disk mode"
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Both of those methods are incorrect for 1.85. The first is for 1.73 and 1.82 only, the second is for 2.20. You want this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
thank you all, i will try and let you know
btw, will my device stay sim unlocked after factory reset?

None of this has anything to do with sim unlocking. It won't affect it.

ran it from another computer, and it solved the problem!!!!!
thank you so much, can't believe how much time i have spent on this
and i had that thought crossing my mind, just thinking why would it be different since i managed to upgrade one of my devices
in that computer
For some reason I am still having this issue. I have tried on multiple computers to no avail! It generally gets past the bootloader stage and then goes back to "sending" and then fails out. I am currently running the latest Viper ROM. Any ideas?

SIM Unlock Easy Tutorial

This Guide is to SIM-Unlock your HTC Desire S.
It worked for me 2 times on vodafone locked devices.
Its very Simple just Download via HTC Dev Center the Android 4.0 WWE RUU and Install it.
You need a locked bootloader to Do This.
After then your phone should be automatically unlocked.
Let me Know if something went wrong.
Got excited when I saw this thinking CID changing had been achieved. Anyway,
This does debrand, but I'd hesitate before suggesting people flash HTCDev's 4.0.4 due to its bugs and how you can't temproot it after.
Yes i flashed this RUU onto my desire, it is buggy, i am going back to full root again, i can not find the original ROM for the desire for gingerbread for the life in me or i would re flash it and get rid of the bugs on ICS.
