Hi everyone - This is probably a simple question but I couldn't seem to find the answer in the forums. I notice a section for "Original Development for Galaxy S III" and one for "Android Development for Galaxy S III". Just wondering what the difference is... Looking for a good smooth ROM for my new phone... Thanks!
The only difference I noticed in other device forums also is the original development usually has the older stuff and the other has the newer stuff it'd that helps...I Ann running cm10 from the original development section but I also recommend Galaxy Mod Rom also it has some some things I have never ever seen before and if you flash as much as I do them you will see what I mean just doing the install of that room....it blew me away but no am stuck on cm10 I have been a cyanogenmod guy since my og droid 1 lol

Original development is essentially work done from the ground up. General development would be modifying pre developed programming based on androids open source theorem.

hello all, nice to be here.
Tmobile sent out a software update to my phone this morning, did any one else get one?
I was about to start modding stuff like taking off touchwiz. Would a software update make doing this harder?
It reads,
'congratulations!
T mobile has sent you a new software update for your device.
To proceed with installation select next.'
It's possible that this update might keep me from modding certain things right?
Any details known about the update?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Is it just KD1? I know that rolled out from tmobile recently.
It's kd1 update. We have had a deodexed and rooted version available for Odin flashing here for a while. I recommend using it instead of the tmo version. Look up Whitehawkx kd1 thread here on the forum and follow the directions in the op if you want to try it out.
Also an fyi to avoid flames--this is the dev forum. Questions should go in general forum. We are trying to keep things organized so folks can find what they need--and to keep Mr. Clown (forum mod) happy!

Sorry I thought this was more of a dev question. Thanks for the heads up and the info.

So we cant even use it as a base? We are porting vibrant roms now. I'd assume the same process would need to be done and the button mappings changed right?
I doubt it, not yet anyway... as you can tell they're having a bit of trouble porting froyo roms
Hello, I have unlocked my bootloader with fastboot cmd-easy
I rooted with superoneclick can't remember version but worked good
I put rom manager on gingerbread and flashed clockworkmod version 5.x-worked great then i got peter Alfonso most current ICS rom...then flashed the radio specific to the koodo network, 4.0.3...
And here is the info if needed
Nexus S
At&t version
Koodo mobility
Baseband-I9020AUCKB2
Kernal V.- 3.0.8-gb55e9ac
[email protected] #1
Build-IML74K
Anyhow I was wondering what Kernal would work and what the difference in kernels are and learn abit more being I'm new to samsung customization and what have you and as of now ICS is working like a charm haven't tried a battery test, but performance is nice fast and easy to use mind menus and launcher is abit lagging at times but over all quick and pretty, also face lock is slooooow... And the live effects in camera, is that only for video or wasn't it also for stills but cool either way lol
Please be kind i get a little spacey at times and like if you can't get where I'm going here just ask... I am like i said new to the nexus s
Thank you and have a great day...

this doesnt belong in the development section. check the q&a section for other similar threads(there are many). also, check the general section too, for kernel comparisons and benchmarks(Bedalus started some nice threads there).
come on people just read where you post your threads.!!!!
Ok I apologize, as I said still fairly new to the forums...

Noticed that ICS is now ready for download for T-Mobile Galaxy 2, praying for a port to galaxy blaze, anyone going to try and port it?? If not, any opinions on best custom rom and tweaks would be welcome!!
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
LOL, another thread for ICS on the blaze? I believe this has been covered a number of times now.
Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand it is possible to port ICS over from another phone however that requires creating a kernel from scratch. Doing so is extremely time-consuming and difficult and there's no point for a dev to work on that when we're slated to get an official release on our phone in the (hopefully) near future.

This type of comment/question doesn't belong here in the "Android Development" section. Please use the General section for this. Also please familiarize yourself with the 'search' feature. As someone else stated there are like half a dozen threads about this already. Also please read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699450
I would also ask our community to NOT respond to these posts when they are in the wrong section. If someone can't read or help themselves by searching and learning from what is already posted here their question doesn't deserve a response. Not trying to be rude here, but seriously there has been 2 of these kinds of posts in the dev section in the last month.
Then don't be rude.

I have seen a lot of videos and post of Android 4.2 being attached to CM10.1 for the I9000/I9000G and other devices. I keep checking 5 times religiously for it but I am only noticing incremental updates and bug fixes for Android 4.1.2 roms.
I know the developers are working very hard but if anyone can relate, it's not fair to us HTC One S users who keep flashing different 4.1.2 roms with 4.2 add ons as it's not the same as an original 4.2 rom.
Since I rooted my HTC One S (s4), I have been flashing various 4.1.2 roms such as: AOKP Milestone 1 / UnofficialAOKP14Nov12, CM10, JB PACman rom, Blackbean 6, Dark Jelly S etc.
Developers, we need 4.2 roms please.

4.2 is supposedly the most bug ridden release yet. It'll get here soon, and all we're missing is the new notifications and lock screen widgets. No big deal really.

Will do. I am concerned about HTC devices though as newer AOSP source codes haven't been exported to create a rom yet, which brings me to a question if their is something wrong with HTC devices like the One S. When the HTC One devices got released, they were released as a group so they should get updates at the same time right? Wrong, HTC One X got Jelly Bean 4.1.1 first and its brother the One S has been left out. Is it hardware related? Who knows? I think this subject should be announced by XDA administrators

The title says it all.
In case you don't know what Xylon is, it is a semi-minimalistic custom ROM that is designed to be experimental. It is often the fastest ROM you can get on a device, with almost no bugs...
So yeah.
Rules for requests:
You must be able to test for me, or you must find a person with the device to test for me.
There must be an existing android 4.2.2 aosp rom for your device.
If you donate, your request will be attended to first, otherwise, it is first come first serve and thanks amount of the request.
I cannot guarantee to port Xylon to every device requested although I will try.
Currently on my agenda:
I9100 status: built, sent to tester fixing
HTC HD2: Built, sent
Samsung fascinate
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Samsung Captivate i897
Galaxy ace: Ill deal with armv6 later...
Devices already ported to (look for it in original development or development):
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III
Nexus s
TF101 (unreleased, just request if you want)
Finally, if I have ignored your request for greater than two weeks, it doesn't mean I hate you, it just means that the request breaks one of the rules, or I just overlooked it.

Hi i would love for regular development of Samsung Galaxy S II I9100, Fuss132 did bring out a beta, which was a great ROM (apart from broken bluetooth & no wi fi tether), a few days later an update was released, but it had to be removed due to soft bricking of devices.Since then there has been nothing.I realize Fuss is busy with other projects, but i would love to use this rom all the time if it was updated for my device.I am willing to test.
Could you port it to Samsung Galaxy Ace? It's a mid range phone, but it has 4.2.2 CM10.1 but not AOSP.
I hope you'll be able to.
