[BLOG] -Update 09.08.13- Project: APEX.LCARS (v1.00) by Freezy1982 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

=> Hello World <=
Unfortunately there is (until now) no full LCARS Theme for Android. So I decided to work on this and document all my steps.
This thread will be a summary of all useful LCARS things and I hope you are a part of this growing process.
You also have a chance to follow this Tutorial step by step to style your Device in the same way (if you would like to)
Note: This is NOT a Theme you simply can install - This is only a guidance how to get a LCARS look like Homescreen.
You have to invest -some- time to get it working yourself!

Tutorial - How to style APEX-Launcher to a LCARS-Launcher
Tutorial - How to style APEX-Launcher to a LCARS-Launcher
Note: I will not be responsible for any problems or changes, which cannot be undone. Use this Tutorial at your own risk!
Before we start, lets check the basic - The ROM!
I am using the newest CyanogenMod for Galaxy Note N7000
This ROM uses a 320 DPI Resolution. I haven't tested another DPI so I don't know if you are expecting some dislocated Icons etc.
1. Installation
Install the apps below (use Play-Store):
- APEX Launcher Pro
- Multipicture Live Wallpaper
- Font Installer *root*
- Simple Calendar Widget
- Make your Clock Widget Pro
- Barcode Scanner (for importing "Make your Clock Widget Pro" styled widgets)
- Wettervorhersage ("Palmary Weather Pro")
- Wizz Widgets
Click to collapse
2. Install Folder Structure with Icons and Wallpapers
You can copy your Files on SD or Internal Memory. There are only about 3 MB to copy.
2.1 Download: APEX.LCARS v1.0 by Freezy1982
2.2 Copy the Content of the .zip to your SD-Card (unzip)
=> you should get:
Code:
[SIZE="2"]
\APEX.LCARS v1.0 by Freezy1982\
\Layer
Apps.png
Dock.png
[...]
\Icons
BLTH.png
Dock_Agenda.png
[...]
\Font
[/SIZE]
Layer = Wallpapers, which are only designed for LCARS. Every Screen gets a seperate one - sorted by their Names
Icons = Icons, which are only designed for LCARS. Every Icon has a special position on the screen (as you can see on the Main Thread). You may not change their Position if those are needed to fit to the Wallpaper
Font = [Optional] There will be the Font of LCARS stored.
Finished with your folder structure!
3. [Optional] LCARS-Font Installation
The Font is the work of Jens Göttling and his wonderful LCARS Homepage (just have a look at: gtjlcars.de) Thanks a lot for sharing!
Note: For an installation of this font you need root privileges on your Phone! (I didn't find another way to install a font... You? Then tell me!)
3.1 Download the LCARS GTJ3.ttf here: LCARS Font
3.2 Unzip and copy LCARSGTJ3.ttf to "\APEX.LCARS v1.0 by Freezy1982\Font\" on your SD-Card & "\Windows\System\Fonts" on your Desktop-PC (if you would like to change some Icons or Text in this Theme later on)
3.3 Start "Font Installer" on your phone
3.4 Select "Local" and browse to "\APEX.LCARS v1.0 by Freezy1982\Font\" and select "LCARSGTJ3.ttf"
3.5 Click "Install"
3.5.1 [Optional] Font Installer will ask you for a backup - you should do so, if you would like to restore your original font later on. It will be replaced!
3.6 Apply reboot
3.7 After reboot check under "Android-Settings\Display\Font\" if you selected "Standard Font" (If not, it won't displays the new font)
3.8 Finished installing new Font!

Screen 5 = Apps.png
Screen 6 = Games.png

7. Set Homescreen Icons
The Position of some Icons (like BLTH & WIFI & AppMngr) are fixed in their position, because they are part of the backround.
You will see, which Icon is fix and which not - maybe you would like to spend some time to edit them to their new place fitting to the backround...

Hmm, I haven't checked my DPI Resolution yet. I don't even know which one I am using right now.
How or where to check that?

I think you can try that. JB should not be such different according to Apex...
But please wait a little bit before you start, until I finished the Tutorial in Post#2 - If I'm not ready in time you probably get stuck and you get an "under construction" Homescreen

THX for your suggestion, but there's only a bit of time for me in the next two days to finish the tutorial included the needed Wallpapers and Icons for the Homescreen. Please don't rush on it...
My DPI = 320
Could that be a Problem with DPI = 213, if you use the same Grid in Apex as me?
Let's test that in a few days, if you want. No need to change your ROM. If anything doesn't fit on your screen (Wallpaper or Icon drifts), we will know more...
(If you make a backup of your Apex Settings before, all Changes should be undone after restoring)

My crazy friends and me,
we change every time our rom!

For us, everything to test it's funny!

Ah ok,
I think I will have to add the DPI = 320 at the first Post. Another density may cause glitches, if you customize your Screen like I did.
But anyway - I would like to test this. Maybe I only have to resize the Icons for other DPIs.
I will let you know, if I am ready - so you can test this.

- Update: 18.11.12 -
New Thread Update:
- Theme finished (see Post#1)
- Download for Background, Icons and Custom Widgets added (see Post #2)
- Tutorial nearly finished - will be updated soon!
@ Bently73: It would be a pleasure for me, if you can test "installing" this theme by my tutorial - need some feedback, if it is understandable.
And I would like to know, if this theme is working for another phone with (or without) a Resolution of 320 DPI than mine.
@ All experimenteers: Please remember - it is a pre-alpha... It is not tested on another phone yet Test on your own risk and give me a feedback - THX

Thanks for your offer, bently73. Sadly I'm not speaking french, so I could not talk much in your topic
I will work on my tutorial in between and also try to make a installation routine for my Theme.
Maybe there are some other testers to help me on this?

I hope that this project is not dead!
I've been wanting for something like this for Android for quite some time now and have only recently begun actively doing research into this.
Finding this tread over past weekend was amazing.
I would be happy to be a tester!
I have actually already started applying your work on my rooted Kindle Fire 7 inch.
I have a few differences from your setup that I can describe in detail if you like.
Even though some of the lcars icons don't line up perfectly on the first home screen (screen 1), the spacing is working out quite well almost everywhere else.
The layer screens had to be resized for the Kf screen/dpi; resizing them to the 600*1024 resolution then shrinking the image in the canvas down a few pixels made the layer screens fit perfectly.
Would like to know more about the other widgets you have in your pics (calendar, weather, ect)

SWEET!!
Going to give it a go myself there now....:good:

Hey soundwave4,
as you can see at the feedback to this Thread, I decided to stop this project and finish this for only my device.
I'm glad that you would like to test it, or you have already done in a few steps.
Sadly I don't know if it will work on your Fire 7 properly in any time, because I do not know, if the APEX-Version for Tablets are still the same (in Resolution and Screen-Icon-Placements) as for Smartphones. And there is no lanscape mode planned...
Additionally I am very busy in this time with work and life and I only have the time to answer your questions or to give some advices to you how to fix some bugs.
1) Even though some of the lcars icons don't line up perfectly on the first home screen (screen 1), the spacing is working out quite well almost everywhere else.
2) The layer screens had to be resized for the Kf screen/dpi; resizing them to the 600*1024 resolution then shrinking the image in the canvas down a few pixels made the layer screens fit perfectly.
3) Would like to know more about the other widgets you have in your pics (calendar, weather, ect)

1) Do you use Portrait or Landcape Mode? Did you adjust the Icon Layout in APEX Settings?
2) Please post a screenshot
3) All Widgets which are used in this Theme are posted in Post #2 - please use google and you will see

update...
started applying on Galaxy S3..
Had to squish the width of the wallpapers down to 720px, and the icons down to 88-90px ish... to get a good fit. used photoshop batch edit for the icons.
Using UCCW to create a few of my own widgets clock/weather etc..
I think its more fun creating a theme from a template like yours than just downloading a theme, learn a lot about customising.
Many thanks,
I'll post a few screenshots later..

Wonderful - Great work - I'm looking foward to your Screenshots!
Maybe you would like to share your setup here on the first Post with your Name
You are also welcome to customize the Backgrounds to another Layout.
Maybe you have got the time to create a new Landcape Version of this skin - I'm too busy for this right now, but it would be great to have a tablet one as well!
Keep on!

Yea sounds good man.
Name is Gijoe50000 .Landscape mode would definately be on the agenda as well. I may get started on that soon, once I get the portrait mode finished
Mine is looking quite similar to yours so far, although I don't really have any games installed so I may create a media page instead. Photoshop time!
I have also added a lockscreen
I created this using Widgetlocker, and used UCCW for the "missed calls/text". You can make these clickable using the hotspot feature in UCCW.
The unlock slider and icons are built into widgetlocker.
download image for lockscreen here https://www.dropbox.com/s/e8w6oo1fbn6o0gu/Lockscreen.png
This image is 720x1280 for Galaxy S3 so if it's a bit off a bit of simple photoshopping should do the trick, or open the image on your phone and take a screenshot in fullscreen to get the correct dimensions!
I'll post a link for 1280x720 backgrounds, and matching icons for S3 in a day or two once I get them finished..

[Guide] Android Phone 7 Theme

This is an old thread 21 june 2011 . I still use the emulator tiles myself (see second screenshot below) and a few of the others. I have been away from xda for ages and some of the links in this thread died so i have reuploaded them.
My Phone Screenshots [Old]
My Phone Screenshots [New] Some of the game tiles are old but i did create this thread in 2011
maxx228 Phone Screenshots
Ok so a few of my mates / random people who have seen my phones have asked how i got the windows style panels on my phone (see links above to see what im talking about) so i decided to write a quick guide (lol). Most people who call xda home will probably have seen / know how to do this so this guide is obviously not for you
Image Sizes (for making you own)
So to start you will either need to make your own images or download some pre-made ones. The image sizes want to be (if your using an arc/play or any phone with 480x854 screen size) the following;
(all sizes in pixels, the following image sizes will leave about a 10 pixel gap (i think) between your icons)
1x2: 110x282
1x3: 110x428
1x4: 110x574
2x1: 230x136
3x1: 350x136
4x1: 470x136
4x4: 470x574
Large (3x3): 350x428
Middle (2x2): 230x282
Small (1x1): 110x136
Getting Started
Ok so now down to business first off you need either of the following launchers. LauncherPro (the free version is fine), Go Launcher EX or ADW Launcher then you need Desktop VisualizeR once you have installed Desktop VisualizeR and the launcher of your choice you then need to do the following (and only the following).
Launcher Settings
Using Launcher Pro press menu button while on the homescreen then go;
Preferences > Home screen settings > Number of columns (set it to 4)
Preferences > Home screen settings > Number of rows (set it to 5)
Preferences > Home screen settings > Auto-fit items (make sure is ticked)
Using Go Launcher EX press menu button while on the homescreen then go;
Preferences > Screen Settings > Grid Size > Custom Grids > Then set number of rows to 5 and then number of columns to 4.
Using ADW Launcher press menu button while on the homescreen then go;
More > ADW Settings > Screen Preferences > Desktop Columns (Set it to 4)
More > ADW Settings > Screen Preferences > Desktop Rows (Set it to 5)
Adding your first tile
Then on a blank homescreen go to the widgets menu and place the correct size Desktop VisualizeR widget on your desktop (the images you download will be named, email2x1.png or in folders named 1x1, 2x1 e.t.c, so you would add the 1x1 or the 2x1 widget e.t.c).
Now just click the widget box you created on the desktop and then go, select icon > image file > astro (i use astro file manager to navigate to images) then find your correct sized image that matches the Desktop VisualizeR widget on your desktop.
Now click Select Action > Launch Application. And select the app you want your image to open. Once selected click the clear button under the label section (or else you will get crappy text over your image) then finally click ok. Then you should have your first image tile done . All that is left is to figure out the rest of the screens layout. If you scan through the links provided below you can get ideas e.t.c worth a quick scan.

Custom Dock using launcher pro
Put the dock somewhere on your sd card. Press setting button on home screen. Go Preferences > Appearance settings > Dock Background > custom. Then just navigate to the custom dock you want. You can either download one or use the one i use here --> Dock + Icons.zip
You also need to delete all the icons (apart from the app draw one) on the launcher pro dock and replace the app draw icon with the transparent icon i have included in the link above or replace them all with the transparent icon (see the Dock + Icons.zip link above).
You can also do this on GO launcher ex and ADW. Im not sure how since i use launcher pro, google it
Resizing your own images
If you want to resize your own images and dont have / know how to use photoshop i suggest Paint.net it will let you resize the images. Just open the image in paint.net and go (on toolbar) Image > Resize (or ctrl + r) untick the maintain aspect ratio box and put the sizes found at the top of this post. (Note: resizing images will cause the image to loose some quality but if you dont wanna make your own then it will do, cannot tell when its on phone anyways, also if you do it wrong go to Edit > Undo (or Ctrl + Z) do not resize the image more than once or you will get a blurry image)
Or
If you want to batch resize some images/icons you have found you can try this batch resizer FastStone Photo Resizer (thanks for the tip shotgunfool). Just open the images in FastStone Photo Resizer and add images you want to resize to the right panel. On the bottom right panel Tick the "Use Advance Features" box then click the "Advance Options" button. Click on the resize tab, tick the box. Then just untick "Preserve Aspect Ratio" box and put your new desired width x height in the boxs and click ok. Select your output folder then click convert!
Misc
Ive attached below the icons i use on my phone (from the old screenshot @ top link) + a few spares i made but never used aswell as a plain black wallpaper, since i think it works best with a plain black wallpaper but its up to you, enjoy .
Tiles from my phone.zip <--- Link to new icons i added to the pack below (Icons from my phone (Right size for phone).zip) includes the emulator tiles and a few extras (see here for screenshots) The attached zip below does not include the emulator icons just the icons from the old screenshots @ top.
You can either download the icon tiles serperately or download the .zip file from Qooy which has everything from this thread.
All the tiles from this thread + a Read me txt guide + Launcher pro settings backup. I have also fixed the HD Icon Pack 1 + 2 by mikebeecham so no more white corners

When you press home and it asks complete action using there should be a check box that says "use by default for this action". Tap the box to put in a check mark then press your home launcher. You can't delete the Sony one. (well you can but that's advanced stuff)

No, you can switch back whenever.
...and you may get the option more than you think, considering how much the Play force closes stuff.
I found the above guide on another forum a while ago, and it is great.
This is what I did:

The clock widgets (both of them) are SiMi Clock Widget included in the clock widget are battery and weather widgets same as mine
You can delete SE home but i would advise against it. Just see the thread below follow it to gain root and delete the bloat / move the gameloft / pre-installed games to your sd card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
For the twitter icon see attachments below or go to the top post and see the link i added at the bottom for all the images i use on my phone
Never had launcher pro force close on me yet and i rarely get any force closes on the apps / games im using. Maybe on gameloft titles once or twice

Alright man thanks! Think ill leave removing the bloatware when im better at these things.. heh.
Thanks for the guide, but can i suggest that you add a link in for
http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDownload.htm
It is a photo resizer, i managed to resize that folder of 300+ photos in under 30 seconds. into 1x2's i plan to make a copy of all then choose which ones in what size i want to make it layout nice on the homescreens.
Oh and i am not promoting or affiliated with that photo resizer, its just the first one that came up when i googled it and it worked so i thought i would just share it
Or if your too lazy to do that,
iv converted them into ever size now and uploaded them.
https://rapidshare.com/files/612631944/Icons.zip
NOTE: I do not own or take credit for any of these icons, i simply resized them.
Enjoy

First off thanks for the photo resizer i will add it to first post later. Tried it out and it works . Secondly thanks for resizing the icons but unfortunately the sizes for the icons are wrong. I would also suggest just resizing the icons to the new sizes that match the icon in the first post. If you take a 1x1 and make it a 2x2 or 2x1 it will blur the image but its up to the person resizing i supposee. If i get 5 mins i will resize the icons in my first post.
*edit* I think you forgot to untick the preserve aspect ratio box in the photo resizer

[APP][2.2+][WIDGET] UCCW - custom widget for all

[APP][WIDGET] UCCW - Make your own widgets
UCCW - Ultimate custom clock widget.
https://market.android.com/details?id=in.vineetsirohi.customwidget
Make your own widgets, just the way you like.
Install countless skins from Google play or use 'uzips' (fully editable UCCW skin files) made by your friends.
UCCW is a WYSIWYG (What-you-see-is-what-you-get) editor for widgets. You can tweak the layout of objects, fonts, images, shapes, Analog clocks, battery meters, weather and more.
Features
Widget objects - text, shapes, images, weather, graphic (progress), analog clock etc.
Text objects - calendar, weather, battery info, Gmail, location, next calendar event, tasker variables
Graphical objects - barcode, bar, pie
Special objects - Week bar, Series clock
Text mapping to override text values
Hotspots
Set actions that fire when a user clicks on the widgets. Customize their location and size.
Sharing skins
Want to share your awesome skins with the world? Share uzip files or create apks right from within app to upload on Google play.
Note
UCCW needs to run in the background to update home screen widgets. Android Oreo and above need a persistent notification for background processing.
App Permissions
Storage - for saving skins
Your location - to show the user location and fetching weather data
Network communication - for weather and ads
Your social information - for direct dial hotspot
Your personal information - to show the next calendar event
Your accounts - for Gmail unread mails count

I like the widget.
Some suggestions/ bugs:
- if I choose 100% alpha for background, analog clock, etc. it is not really invisible, there is still a shadow
- instead to turn the alpha to 100% to make background, analog clock, etc. invisible give a selection to turn off (e.g dont show background)
- I cant use any of my picture for background
- in the settings gui in portrait mode we have to scroll to the right side. Why dont you use 2 rows for all the settings buttons?

Yes, use pictures with low size. the product of height and width of the picture should be less than 120000, preferably of the same size as background dimensions for best result.

[I9003]{TUT} Complete Customization::3d UI[I9003 Makeover]

Okay So First of all this is not an app or something which I developed , Its just a tutorial to make your phone look better and give a 3d sense.
Please take out some time and try this cuz it's really cool. You will not regret it. But if you are not interested dont proceed further
EVERYTHING WILL BE IN LANDSCAPE AND 3D. Works smoothly!!
Things you will need.
1. ADW Launcher EX (The latest version cuz it had an option to remove the dock completely) I hate docks
2. Multi Live wallpaper. (download from market for free)
ADW launcher Settings
Go to UIsettings-->Icons
(select new icons)
Icon size: 70
Icon Label Color: #06474747 ( That's all in icons)
Go to Main Dock
Disable dock(on)
Go to Screen Preferences
Desktop Columns: 8 Desktop rows: 6
Home orientation: Landscape
Hide status bar : on
Advanced settings--> Check Auto Stretch (for widgets)
Go to drawer settings
Fullscreen : on
Then come out of UIsettings and go to General behaviour --> Gestures
Swipe up actions :Open/close App drawer
General behaviour---> ANimation and effects
Infinite scroll : OFF
Desktop scrolling speed: 657
Wallpaper scrolling: On (Make sure its on other wise this tut is not gona work)
Thats all with the adw launcher. Now your screen must be in landscape and you will have more room on your Screens
Now lets add 3d
Multi Live Wallpaper
Install Multi live wallpaper (make sure you have a folder with awesome wallpapers on your sdcard)
Multi live wallpaper settings--> Common Settings
Picture source: picture folder (Give path of your folder with wallpapers)
Crop/Resize ratio: Fit to fullscreen
Decrease Saturation: 70%
Go back to multilivewallpaper
Transition Type: Inside cube
Double Tap to change pic: On
Color depth: High color(16bit)
That's it save and enjoy:
Gives you a complete tablet experience with 3d
Notable apps
1. 3 music player
2. Wp7 messaging metro
3. Colorize widgets
4. Circle battery widget
5. Alternative drawer(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299)

did u follow the steps correctly. change your icon size .. If u still have no luck.. reduce to the desktop rows to 5 and desktop columns to 6 or 7.. try changing these values. they'b be back to normal again. I had no problem with 6x8 and with icon size of around 70.

BUGS
Pls use our google issue tracker to report bugs and request features. Thx!
Team Venom - ViperOneS: Google Issue Tracker
Download the Boot.img Flash Script from http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390275921635705217
Download the Rom
Extract the Boot.img Flash Script on your PC
Connect your One S to the PC (USB Disk Mode), copy ViperOneS_xx.zip (the ROM) to your HTC One S
Connect your One S via USB and ensure you have HTC Sync installed, you need the drivers to be able to use fastboot
Uncheck fastboot in Settings->Power, then shut down your HTC One S completely (don't reboot, shut it down).
Press and hold volume down, then press power (keep holding volume down!) until your screen shows the hboot menu, navigate to recovery (use volume keys)and press the power button once to jump into recovery mode.
In Recovery choose install zip from sd -> choose zip file and navigate with your volume buttons to the downloaded Rom and hit power and confirm with yes.
Now the Aroma installer should show, if you have the touch recovery installed you can use your screen to navigate through it, otherwise use the volume buttons and confirm with the power button.
IMPORTANT: if you come from another Rom, pls choose FULLWIPE
After you configured it, reboot to your bootloader in fastboot mode
Now go to your extracted Boot.img Flash Script folder:
Depending on your OS of your PC you need to run the file like normal:
Windows: flash-boot-windows.bat
MAC: flash-boot-mac.sh
Linux: flash-boot-linux.sh
When the commands were successful, press power again to go back to the hboot
Navigate with your volume button to "Recovery" and reboot or reboot via cmd with "fastboot reboot"
Finally we highly recommend specifically for One S to boot again in recovery and wipe cache. Please do that also, whenever you flash any addons or mods – always boot your device first, then boot again in recovery and wipe cache.
Recommendation - with "Flash Image GUI" from joeykrim you can alternatively flash boot.img on your device, no need to fastboot anymore - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954121&page=2
Please guys, I really understand you bunch of flashoholics
but before you flash any mods, better ask in the thread, whether these might break any features of this ROM.
You can be 100% sure to create issues, if you flash:
Framework mods (means all apk`s and jars in framework)
SystemUI mods (Statusbar)
Dialer / phone mods
Rosie mods (Launcher)
IME mods (Keyboard)
Music mods
Lockscreen mods
Message mods
So unless the mod does not explicitly state, THIS IS FOR VIPER ONE S 2.1, leave your greedy flash fingers in the pocket.
Thank you for your attention and we hope you enjoyed your flash

If you didn't flash the rom yet...you will regret it. It's the most featured and most innovative sense rom out here on the HTC One S forums.
Some user comments:
I have been pretty silent on the the 'ROM Scene' as of late, but I feel obligated to say that this ROM is BAD ASS!!!
If you are a doubter or have been faithful to any other chefs ROMs...
...This is the ROM that is worth jumping ship and worth giving a test drive. Since I flashed, I have not had a desire to flash back or the desire to flash another ROM!

Q: My WiFi is not working correctly?!
A: Flash WiFi Partitions from the developement forum!
Q: How do I install the Rom?!
A: Installation instructions are in the 5th post at the bottom.
Q: What`s the md5 sum thing?
A: It ensures, that the Rom is downloaded correct and completely to avoid weird issues when installing/using the Rom. Google for "md5 sum checker" and you should find what you need.
Q: My phone stucks on HTC splash screen
A: "fastboot erase cache" in fastboot and flash the boot.img or use the boot.img flasher provided here.
Q: Whats the boot.img. Why we need to flash it?
A: The boot.img is the kernel and has to be flashed if you want your Rom running well. HTC Dev Unlock doesn`t allow to install the kernel directly when installing the Rom in recovery, that`s why you need to install it manually.
Q: I found a theme or mod, will it work on this rom?
A: It's NOT recommended to use mods/themes that don`t clearly state, that they are compatible with our Rom. Themes/Mods always use framework files which will break mods/stuff in our Rom.
Q: My question is not listed here, what to do?
A: Ensure you used the xda search, google and your brain before asking a question in the thread. If you can`t find an answer yourself we will answer your question for sure! (-:
Q: What`s that CM Status Bar brightness mod?
A:
Q: Why does the CM Status Bar brightness mod not work on my device?
A: Make sure Auto Brightness is NOT activated
Q: Why do I have an empty space in EQS?
A: Just hide NFC in tweaks hide n reorder, our device does not support NFC
Q: Why does show unlock animation not work?
A: It DOES work as long as you`ve been on homescreen before you locked and have the clock widget there.
Q: Why is infinite scrolling sometimes laggy and I even see an empty screen?
A: The implementation is still buggy, but we left it on user request.
Q: What`s the Ultra/smooth Rosie?
A: Your HTC Widgets got some kind of 3D effect which may make your Rosie laggy. You can see that 3D effect clearly on the HTC 4x4 Weather widget.
Smooth: Flattens all widgets besides the one you start scrolling
Ultra: Flattens all widgets for best performance
Q: The cube effect isn't working on the app drawer
A: The cube effect just appears when you swype from the all tabs over to the frequent to the download tab.
Q: Volume wake isn`t working after some time when the device is in deep sleep.
A: This is a kernel issue, no way I can fix it in the Rom.
Q: How do I know whether a tweak needs a reboot to work?
A: Usually the white reboot button top right corner will turn white. Just press it and your device or Status bar will reboot and apply the tweak.
Q: I have problems ending a call, problems with lags when making a call, or low volume issues.
A: Some users reported that it`s related to the fine/finest volume tweak. Set it to normal to fix your issue.
Q: I have Dialer or other FC after a mod/Theme/Rom flash?
A: Always fully boot your device first, then boot again in recovery. One S creates some cache issues after flashes, which most of the time are solved when wiping cache in recovery.
Q: I need someone repackaging a kernel
A: Kernels don`t need to be repacked for our Rom. We don`t have ramdisk tweaks. So you are able to flash the kernel straight from the kernel devs thread.
Q: What are the correct sizes for the app drawer and notfication pulldown background?
A: Try 540x960.
Q: What are the correct sizes for custom carrier logo?
A: Try 100x100
Q: Why are there not enough custom options in Status Bar and Sense Theming section?
A: Click on GET MORE first and install your favorite theme packs first .
Q: What`s the Venom Hub?
A: The Hub is the place, where you can download and install new themes, icon or font packs.
Q: I want to apply new custom Status Bar logo?
A: Again - the Hub is the place or make your own and choose it from your SD.
Q: Why do I need the additional addon package?
A: You don`t need iit, but it saves you the hassle to download the full ROM, if you only want to remove bloatware or add useful stuff like new boootanimations, fonts or AOSP apps.
Q: I installed Venom Red Theme on 1rst ROM installation, but I don`t see anything red?
A: You need to activate Skin under personalize, Status Bar and Sense Themes in Tweaks app first.
Q: Will there be CRT On/OFF support in the next release?
A: NOT possible, because HTC changes some required code in their libs, that makes it impossible.
Q: Several HTC Widgets are missing - can't add them to my homescreen.
A: Settings->apps->all apps: choose HTC Sense and clear data.

[19.02.2013] Venom Viper One S Tweaks documentation
Venom Viper One S Tweaks Documentation – a venomous “Guide to the Galaxy”
Tweaks for Version 2.1.0.0
Intro
The Tweaks enable the user to modify many aspects of the Android and Sense system. Since these are all non-generic things, meaning not authored, tested and verified by HTC, they can and will contain bugs and can and will cause issues on your device. However, we are trying to even out as many of them as possible over time. You are welcome to report any problems to us. Before you report, go through this document and check if it’s already a known thing. It is also a good idea to check the FAQ section before.
The Tweaks consist of two Apps. One is the actual tweaking App, which is responsible for executing the tweaks and one is the Venom Hub, which serves the contents. Both are linked up. You can access the Hub from within the Tweaks App. Once you downloaded content in the HUB and pressed install, you can change to the Tweaks App and select your content there for activation.
This Document covers only the actual Tweaks App!
Disclaimer
You read and understood the above, hence you are aware that these modifications will void your warranty and you are the sole responsible person for these changes. We do not accept any responsibility for damage to your device, software and/or personal data stemming from your use of the tweaks app or the HUB and content. We neither accept any claims concerning damage to your private life in consequence of excessive Viper Contact. This is defined as addiction and needs a psychiatrist. We also do not pay lawyers for divorce cases resulting from wife neglect.
Document Logic:
The Document-logic changed since last version to better reflect the Tweaks-App.
The Tweaks App has a title bar at the top, its functions in the middle and a Tab-Bar at the bottom.
The title bar has a caption reading the current ROM Name and Version at the left hand side and a square button at the right side. This button is essential. It shows a white circle which is grayed out if you can enable a tweak without a reboot or Sense/Statusbar restart and it turns white as soon as that would be required. Watch this button. If you see it active (white), it is good to use it right away (before enabling more tweaks) to ensure correct execution of the Tweak. If you don’t, it can cause issues sometimes.
The middle part can have several sections separated by Headlines, containing various tweak functions or links to a “subpage”. Definition of “subpage”: It can either be a full page with functions and/or links to a sub-subpage, it can also be a list or it can be a pop-up.
The Tab-Bar has 8 Tabs.
We will now go through the 8 Tabs sequentially, starting left. For each Tab, the subpages will be titled as they are in the App and follow the main page description.
Roman numbering from I to VIII for the tabs, normal numbers from 0-9 for the Tab’s Items and letters from a-z for the subpage-items. So a Tab is I, a Tweak Item is I.1., a subpage-item to that Tweak Item is I.1.a
The gray Headlines will not be numbered but be typed out bold.
Tab I: “About”
The Titlebar shows a link to the XDA Thread instead of the reboot option.
The middle-section shows links to the main developers and their Profiles, also their donate link.
I.1 . Profiles:
I.1.a: Profiles Page Headline has a 3-dot Menu Item for import and export tweaks settings at the top right. Export leads to all settings being exported to sdcard\venom\profiles\settings.db. Import leads to import of settings from the same file.
Notice: This function is NOT compatible to the Tweaks App from ROM Version 1.0.0.0!
I.1.b: Profiles page shows tweaks defaults which can always be used to revert back to defaults. It’s entry cannot be deleted or renamed.
I.1.c: Profiles page bottom line shows “Close” at the left and “Save current” at the right, “Save Current” will save your current settings to the same “settings.db” as the export function, but will ask you to give a name to your save and then show it below the “Tweaks defaults”.
I.2. Bug report
I.2.a Bug Reports headline shows title and an arrow to navigate one level up in tweaks.
I.2.b Middle section explains how it works, shows text only.
I.2.c bottom Line shows “Start recording” which launches a Recorder-App that records all LogCat lines until you press Stop in the Status-Bar. The Logs are saved to sdcard/venom/BugReports/report_yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.zip, you can upload those logs to any filehost and send them to your dev.
I.3 Buy ViperX+ Pro is a link to the playstore so you can donate $ 1,- to Viper. It will get rid of the nag screen at launch time. This currently still only works for ViperX+ Pro!
Tab II: Statusbar
Shows a restart Statusbar button at the top right

Using this enables you to set each icon individually, using II.6.b. means you exchange all Icons in a pack. If a Pack doesn’t contain an Icon for each available icon, the missing ones will just remain like they were before.

Tab VI: “Misc”
Shows the reboot button at the top right
Headline: HTC hidden settings
VI.1. Item: “Phone Info” - Brings up a native HTC Phone Info screen with options you can set. These are not documented here and partially dangerous. Please do not use them unless you know exactly what you do. Some of the functions write into the Radio Settings and cannot be undone without flashing the Radio. Since this is difficult or even impossible on the One S, one should refrain from using this without expert knowledge.
Headline: Appearance
VI.2. Item: “Enable Cube animation” - Gives you a Cube-like animation on HTC Sense Tab Bar. When sliding fingers from one tab to next, the Window will spin like a Cube.
VI.3. Item: “Transition animations” – gives you a popup-selection of “Standard”, “Flip”, “Fold” or “FlyIn” transition animations.
VI.4. Item: “Overscroll Glow Color” - Here you can set the Color, which lightens up if you over-scroll any list at the borders of the list or screen.
VI.5. Item: “LCD densitiy” – allows you to change the LCD densitiy from 220 up to 400 dpi. Standard is 240 dpi. The Effect is comparable to resolution-changing on a PC screen. Setting higher values will make things not render correctly on the screen, some things won’t fit. But it does make text bigger and better readable. Could be an option for visually impaired people.
Headline: System
VI.6. Item: “Auto Backlight Brightness” - Opens a new page with multiple sliders to fine-tune brightness settings. Experiment with it.
VI.6.a. Item: “Mode” – allows you to pick a predefined set of Backlight settings
Headline: Manual autobrightness settings
shows a live-reading of the current light sensor values
VI.6.b – VI.6.k. Items: 10 sliders for 10 different light sensor value thresholds which allow to set individual brightness settings for each of the 10 steps.
VI.7. Item: “Allowed rotations” – allows you to define how the screen is allowed to rotate, 90, 180 and 270 degrees when auto-rotation is on.
VI.8. Item: “Allow phone rotation” – If you tick this, Dialer, Contacts and InCall screens will also follow auto-rotation settings. If unticked, they will stick to portrait.
VI.9. Item: “Minfree setting” – here you can define a profile how the build-in taskmanager kills apps to free up RAM.
VI.9.a. Item: “Minfree presets” – lets you choose a predefined set of settings for different scenarios. Popup with 5 presets. Choose “manual” for setting your own style of task killing with the six sliders below.
Headline: Choose your values manually
VI.9.b - VI.9.g Items: 6 sliders for Foreground, Visible, Secondary server, Hidden, Content provider and Empty App. Learn with google what each means and play with it.
VI.10. Item: “Power menu items” – pops up a chooser where you can select or deselect 5 functions on the Power menu.
VI.11. Item: “Enable PC Tool CD” – when ticked, it mounts the HTC Sync CD when connecting the phone to PC.
Headline: SMS and Networks
VI.12. Item: “SMS Screen On” – Wakes the phone (screen) up when a message arrives.
VI.13. Item: “Enable Fast Dormancy” - Network specific feature. Hard, to find out if your network supports it. Just experiment with it. If you notice trouble with connections, higher battery drain and such, go back to previous setting. NOTICE: this tweak does not change the relating build.prop entry anymore! It works without build.prop! (for those that like to check).
VI.14. Item: “Disable Smart Sync” - Disables the smart syncing feature for HTC Sense. Can help that your device doesn’t turn off wifi when you sleep. Experiment with it if you are curious what it does.
VI.15. Item: “Force enable WiFi N support” – this setting only applies to countries where the carriers disable WiFi N per operator policy! Usually WiFi N is ON and you don’t need this. If you are unsure what the story is with your carrier, call them and ask.
Headline: Sound
VI.16. Item: “Disable volume sound” – disables the annoying audible feedback sound when pressing the volume buttons.
VI.17. Item: “Enable Sony xLoud Enhancement” – enables the Sony xLoud sound engine.
Headline: Different Tweaks
VI.18. Item: “Enable Sony BRAVIA Engine” – enables the Sony BRAVIA picture enhancement technology.
Tab VII: “Advanced”
Shows the reboot button at the top right
Headline: Fixing/Optimizing
VII.1. Item: “Fix Permissions” - Runs a command that corrects all UID/GID mismatches. Can also cause trouble but usually it helps with issues.
VII.2. Item: “Zipalign all APK’S” - Runs the “zipalign” process on all user apk’s. This can be handy as not all App Devs do a zipalign and that makes the APK behave bad on memory. Zipaligning them can make them run better in memory.
VII.3. Item: “Fix Widgets” – forces sense to rescan its widgets. This can be used if you notice that some widgets are missing.
Headline: System
VII.4. Item: “Mount Sytem r/w” - Mounts the System with Read and Write permissions for file browsers. This can potentially be dangerous because malware could abuse that but on the other hand, it’s helpful too if you like messing with your system and malware could also execute this command anyway, since you already run the device as root user.
VII.5. Item: “Disable Logcat” - disables the logcat of the system. Makes it a little faster and use a wee bit less juice but you won’t be able to provide your Dev with a LogCat if you have problems. These logs are incredibly helpful for debugging. So just try it out if it betters anything for you.
Headline: Wipes
VII.6. Item: “Wipe Cache” - As the name suggests, this wipes the cache partition. Saves you a reboot into recovery.
VII.7. Item: “Wipe Dalvik Cache” - See above!
Headline: Fonts
VII.8. Item: “Use Custom Font” - Lets you pick a custom font pack, also downloadable via the hub for example. This Item opens a file browser where you can go look for your downloaded font pack. To go back to default font, simply uncheck this tickbox.
Headline: Boot
VII.9. Item: “Custom boot animation” - Lets you pick a custom bootanimation. Those can also be obtained via the Hub for example. This Item opens a file browser where you can go look for your downloaded custom boot animation.
VII.10. Item: “Custom Down Animation” - Same as above for down animation.
Tab VIII: “CPU”
Shows a “Get more” button at the top right which brings you to the Hub’s Kernel download section
VIII.1. Item: “Apply settings on boot” – automatically re-applies settings at boot time if necessary. This function includes a boot-loop protection in case any of the settings is incompatible and leads to a boot-loop.
Headline: File system
VIII.2. Item: “I/O Scheduler” – lets you pick your preferred I/O Scheduler. If you don’t know what it is, leave it alone or Google it.
VIII.3. Item: “Read ahead size” – Slider to adjust the read-ahead buffer for the SD Card. If you don’t know what it is, leave it alone or Google it.
Headline: CPU/Kernel Settings
VIII.4. Item: “CPU Governor” – lets you pick any of the available Governors. Depends on the used kernel. You don’t know what the governor does? Then leave this alone or google android governors.
VIII.5. Item: “CPU Min Frequency” – this is a slider that lets you define the lowest frequency the CPU can drop down to. Stock is 384, anything below usually works but could cause issues.
VIII.6. Item: “CPU Max Frequency” – this is a slider that lets you define the highest frequency the CPU can rise up to. Stock is 1512MHz, anything above that is depending on the kernel you run and can cause issues like sudden reboots, apps FC, overheating, damage to device.
VIII.7. Item: “CPU Screen off Max” – this is a slider that lets you define the highest frequency the CPU can rise up to while the screen is off. Stock is 384 but you can set it lower, however, some phones tend to not wake up when in deep sleep if this is set too low. Experiment with it.
This concludes the tweaks-document. I hope I didn’t miss anything. My sincerest apologies if I did.
Thanks for all the fish!

Please all flashoholics follow this procedure and try NOT flashing custom kernel the first days, that will be a big help for bug tracking:
Full Wipe (cache, data, system)
ROM Flash in recovery
Fastboot Boot.img in bootloader (with script or with "fastboot flash boot boot.img", then "fastboot erase cache, then "fastboot reboot")
Boot into System
DIRECTLY reboot to Recovery and wipe cache again (this is a One S specific security advice)
Boot again to system and start setting up your device
Riff jtag service for members
-=|| RIFF Jtag BOX Unbricking Service ||=-
The unbrick-Service can be contacted here: http://goo.gl/7wJSAHello dear Viper Users and fellow XDA Members!
Tecardo is now offering JTAG Service so he can unbrick phones for members. This service makes hardly any sense for non-EU countries as the postage fees with insurance exceed any reasonable amount and unbricking in for example the US by a local service is MUCH cheaper than paying nearly a hundred bucks for postage. Sorry about that.
Tecardo is involved in Electronics by profession and has some serious knowledge. So it will be easy to dive into the matter for him.
The second purpose will be to have a Friend of the Venom Team with a backup-plan nearby when the Team is bricking their devices while trying new stuff. For them, it is very important to know how to recover their devices without immense costs if something goes wrong. This sense of security will ensure free, undisturbed testing. It takes away a lot of fear.
With this box, Tec will be capable of repairing a number of "Brick" situations. Not all though. But probably most. And if HTC is refusing service, Tec will do it for you.
Thanks to all who helped make this possible!
This has been a tremendous journey, since Viper One S is far away from an ordinary custom ROM. I have never seen so many code changes, ten thousands of new lines have been added and the result is the most customizable ROM ever. This beast is even directly connected to the cloud with the option to download many Themes from Venom Hub and receive OTA updates.
I really need to thank especially torxx, who is just a fantastic dev and a great guy, the genuises behind that project j4n87 and monarx, richmondouk for porting all this stuff to JB, the entire team, especially Vin, shniz who are really very helpful and nice guys. Last but not least a huge thx to our entire Beta team , you find all there names under credits, make sure you hit thx for them, since they hav spent hours testing and flashing and on out teamchat. Their help was really valuable and they all are an important part of our Team.
I really hope you enjoy this ROM as much as we already did during the testing period and be friendly and patient in this thread. We all are here for fun and want to enjoy the best device HTC has build (sorry X users...) with the best Sense ROM available on the market.
So enjoy guys

[APP][4.0.3+] Retribution Launcher v1.3.0/1.3.1L

Update Added an APK that fixes Transparent Status and Nav on Android L. It does nothing else new over 1.3.0.
Retribution is a Launcher3 based launcher with the following new features:
- Workspace grid rows and columns are adjustable to 1 above or below the device default.
- Search Bar can be hidden. The work space expands to take up its space in Portrait or in Landscape if the Dock is also Hidden.
- Optional Dock with the work space expanding over the freed space when the Dock isn't present.
- Ideal Icon sizes are calculated automatically based on the work space configuration.
- Icon sizes are additionally adjustable to between 75% and 125% of the calculated size
- Icon pack support (all common types) with a selector that shows a sample of icons from each installed pack. (Based on the Widget Selector)
- Folder Color customization. (Choices between grey opaque, black opaque, grey translucent, black translucent, and the default White.)
- Choose between the old black folder icon and the new white.
- (unsupported) Optional landscape orientation on phones.
- Support for Android 4.0.3 and 4.1 in addition to the 4.2+ Launcher3 supported. (note there are slight differences, unrelated to my new features on those versions. See the Play Store Listing for details.)
I do not try to duplicate the Google Now features in the Google Now Launcher. That can't be done well in a way that offers anything over existing ways to use Google Now. I have ideas for the Custom Page that Now occupies in that Launcher but haven't started that yet.
Available for Free from the Play Store below, or through the attached APK.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbehary.retribution
New in 1.3.0 (Free)
Bug Fixes (apply to both Free and Pro)
- App Drawer Sort menu now properly displays the current sort method.
- Sort method is saved and preserved.
- Grid changes should always take effect now. (They weren't sometimes)
Also, there's a paid ($2.49) Pro unlock Key which adds the following:
- Applications can be placed in Groups used to filter the App Drawer (and other) display.
- Workspace folder colors can be set individually. (except for the icon, which if colored, always uses the set system background color)
- The work space grid is adjustable to between 2 and 12 rows and columns.
- Icon and Label sizes are adjustable to any value (well, any above 1dp/sp)
- Folder colors expanded to allow any of the 3 folder components (Icon Labels, Folder Name, and Background) to be set to any color.
- Quickly scroll through the App Drawer, Widgets, and Icon Packs by swiping the Page Indicator in each.
- In addition to the normal black or white, folder icon backgrounds can be colored to match the folder background color.
Available here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbehary.retribution.pro_key
New in 1.3.0 (Pro)
- Folder contents can be changed via a dialog listing installed apps. (This list is filterable by group as well)
Bug Fix (Pro Only)
- Prevented a crash when Quick scrolling in Widgets.
Here's a video showing everything (Free and Pro):

Very good launcher, maybe it could be more simple.
I like grid adjustment option of this launcher. But which I dislike most of launcher 3 is few second delay of appearing and disappearing of application drawer. Can developer focus on this issue?

What device? I've never noticed any real delay. If possible I am interested in addressing an issue like that.
Correction, maybe. I've assumed my phone is just slow which it is, but there are cases on it where it does take overly long that may be something else. (I can't recreate on the 2013 N7, but it that's not surprising.) I'll investigate that.
