[Q] Why HTC Sensation XE so smooth? - HTC Sensation

I'm using Sony Xperia S LT26i n my fd is using HTC Sensation XE.
My phone equipped more RAM than his phone n his phone has much more apps n widgets than me.
But the problems are, his XE has less free RAM n free storage than my S, but mine runs much much slower n laggy than his...
I really don't quite understand, r HTC sense really that smooth?
Almost every tech specs(chipset, GPU, CPU) on the HTC Sensation XE r identical to Sony Xperia S, except for RAM, but XE got less...
Strange...
Conditions:
Both running on stock 4.0.4 ICS ROM n stock launcher.
My S has 3 widgets, 380 apps n all 5 homescreens r full.
His XE has 10 widgets, 450 apps n all 7 homescreens r full.
My S used to had 200MB free RAM, 1.8GB free Phone Memory n 2GB free Internal Storage.
His XE used to had 160MB free RAM, 1.5GB free Phone Memory n 1.2GB free SDHC Card Storage.

HTC's aim with Sense was to make it as smooth as possible, so..

Being fair to HTC they did a decent job with Sense on their ICS ROMs

450 apps? Damn

HTC Incredible S OR SE Xperia ARC
Which one is better and why ?
Thanks
depends...
Well... it depends on your needs. I would get the HTC Incredible S as it has more RAM and internal storage space. I would also modify or change the OS to CyanogenMod or other aftermarket firmwares. It has faster data speeds and it has a secondary camera.
SE Xperia ARC has 320MB storage. Is it enough to install apps ? I mean like 40~50 apps ?
Thanks
Apps to sd. If you can wait for the sgsII

But all apps can not be moved as I know :O

Hardware sensation and sensation xe

Do you change HTC Sensation hardware with respect to HTC Sensation XE or two mobiles have the same hardware?
Sorry for my bad english
Same hardware, higher clock for the CPU (1.5ghz vs 1.2 on regular Sensation), 4GB internal memory (vs 1GB on regular Sensation), slightly bigger battery (1730mAh) and Beats mod on the music player...
thanks, the roms of the Sensation XE can apply to my Sensation?
Dunno, XE hasn't been released yet, just announced. We'll see
Edit :
Here's some development on the matter : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261911&page=2
Both have 4GB internal storage, you just can use about 1.3GB.
Due to the fact I am happy with my Sensation and there are no real improvements (beside the cpu-clock), I wont change.
Maybe I will buy the XE cover (I like the design) or the bigger battery.
The beatsmod should be software, too - so we can wait for a custom rom.
According to official htc sensation xe page, hardware are exactly the same except for the bigger battery, red highlights back-cover and beats earphones. Oh, and faster rom.

Edit: I also see red capacitive buttons
Is this why HTC under-clocked the original Sensation, so they could release a 1.5 GHz version and say "look we made a new phone?"

They didn't even increase Ram... LAME!

I think it was because of the battery. Now when the new one has a bigger battery, they can use normal speed

Not sure if I buy that it was the battery.
1) HTC could have included a bigger battery with the original Sensation.
2) 1.5 GHz doesn't actually use that much more juice since the processor only runs at that speed under high load.

settings say 1.5GHz, but actual speed is still 1.2.
I would say both phones are the same ... but the XE-edition has a bigger battery-capacity + improved HTCMusik.apk ... oh and the phone color is red ...
You can compare it to samsung galaxy s gorgio armani .. it has just a special look
true...wish it was 1.5ghz!
get a red marker pen, buy the ear-in headphones, overclock your cpu and there you are.......sensation xe

[Q] HTC Sensation RAM Capacity

Dear XDA users,
I've HTC Sensation with Android 2.3.4 software number 1.45.707.2. The phone is rooted.
The problem is with the RAM. HTC Sensation comes with 768mb of RAM. But the task manager is showing 563mb. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my phone? where is the rest of 205mb of ram?
Thanks in anticipation.

nothing is wrong with your phone. everyones does that. the ram you do not see is dedicated to other processes your phone needs to run.
The 200+mb is dedicated to the gpu.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
Exactly, my Sensation shows 583Mb too but is ok. It doesn't mean you don't have 768mb, remaining ram belongs to GPU.
Regards!
mine is also the same but that is ok.

Anyway to get more ram on sensation? ?

I had nexus s before sensation I know realize that free ram on sensation is about 120~140mb on average which is even lesser than nexus s. So it would be good idea to get more ram from camera or such as what have been done in nexus s kernel. Is this difficult to do so??
Sent from my ARHD Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
Install non-sense rom and you will get 100% more free ram.
Sense is ram killer.
Nexus s is runing pure android, thats the point.
I meant is there a dev working on the kernel to get extra ram from camera or such just like wat devs have done in nexus s lol since the sensation can only use 581mb and I didn't buy a sensation to use sense less rom

There won't be a kernel that "gets extra ram from camera". It's not needed. Also, free ram is wasted ram, plus when you open an app that needs more than 140mB, the os will close some apps until it has enough space.

Not sure why people think that more ram mean faster boot if there is ram it boot if not it has to close it clear ram then open it so more ram faster just like a pc
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
So wrong. So, horribly, wrong. Android keeps enough ram free to launch an application or two (a massive application or two) without having to close anything. You have 120MB free on average? That's plenty to launch the browser, music app, gallery, and about 4 other things before Android has to close anything at all. Free ram is wasted ram.
That "like a PC" part is also wrong. You should always have enough ram to run whatever it is you're running. If you don't have enough, you simply add more to accommodate. The only way you're really going to become faster with ram is to install faster ram (you also have to remove the slower ram because PCs run on the slowest speed available).
What I'm trying to say is that when I play a game such as drow something I sometimes click home button to go web to find out what it looks like. However, when I go back to the game, it was closed most of times. That's why I asked. Nexus s uses 402~3 ram out of 512(not sure) atm.

Maybe you can try kernel with ZRAM capability, faux123 has a good explanation on ZRAM in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216197:
ZRAM allows real-time compression of memory objects in RAM thus reducing memory pressure for the Linux kernel and can keep more apps in memory longer (more apps in RAM == better performance, less fetching from slower MMC or SDCard). Compression, however, is not Free. Some CPU cycles are required to do the compress/decompression, so there's a slight penalty for it. The original CompCache / RAMZSwap required a user space binary to control its behavior which adds additional penalty to performance, but the new version ZRAM eliminated the need for a separate dedicated daemon, thus reducing the overhead and increased performance from the old CompCache by 20%. Therefore, with the newer implementation of ZRAM interface, the performance penalty is almost negligible.
faux kernel and Bricked kernel support ZRAM capability.
Hope it helps.

Agreed. I can trim about 200MBs off Sense using Titanium Backup. Roughly 70 to 80 applications can be removed without issue. Things like HTC's GPS application (there's like 4 components), Friendstream, pre-installed Facebook garbage, Low Storage Wizard, both Sense and AOSP Setup Wizards, half of the Sense widgets, HTC Watch + widget, HTC Hub, HTC Likes, etc etc.

[Q] CM9 only showing 582MB Ram

HI,
I have looked around for this and i have seen that some users with CM9 on their sensations seem to be getting the full 768MB, whereas i can only see 582.. Is this normal? and would upgrading to the CM10 Nightly help me get the most out of my phone at all?
Normal.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
Yeah it's normal, the rest is hidden from you. The hidden part is for the GPU.
For the GPU. The camera. Etc. You wont get full of it.
it's not something only on cm9! tell me which rom have u seen 768mb ram usable on??? :| that's the phone's original policy preventing u
Every ROM i've used shows ~581 megs of RAM.
