Hello everyone, this app has now come out of beta and has been released on Google Play. It is still free and they will offer various in-app purchases going forward.
The link to the release version can be found here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwyLDEsImNvbS5tZXRhbW9qaS5ub3RlYW55dGltZSJd
There is also a new version of the handwriting recognition app called 'Mazec2' which has also been released. If you have purchased the first version, they have advised not to purchase as existing users will get a free upgrade soon. This app will allow you to write in your own handwriting using Note Anytime and convert to text later e.g. after returning to your desk from a meeting etc.
The link to mazec2 can be found here for those who may wish to purchase it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tZXRhbW9qaS5tYXplY2VuIl0.
mazec2 also allows you to use handwriting input in any app that uses a keyboard however will convert the handwriting to text as you go i.e. will not let you convert to text later unless used in conjunction with Note Anytime or another app known as 7Notes.
The app works brilliantly with the Note 10.1 but unfortunately does not offer stylus only (S-Pen) input at present. To use palm rejection, place the S-Pen close to the screen until you can see the dot and then rest your palm on the screen and write away.
Another issue with the android version is that you cannot convert notes to PDF directly from the app, the notes are saved as images in your gallery whereby you can use a third party app to convert them all into a single PDF document.
------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone,
There's a new note taking app coming our way and hopefully will be the most full featured and smooth app for this purpose to date.
It has been released for iPad and the new Windows platform but us Android users have to wait as usual. Hopefully they are saving the best till last!
The app has been developed by the same team that brought us 7Notes, anyone who knows about the 7Notes app will testify that it is one of the best if not, the best handwriting to text apps available.
Notes Anytime hopefully will include this functionality with S-pen compatibility but unfortunately I could not find any confirmation of this. The iPad version does not have handwriting to text option however the Windows one does.
I have tried the app on my wife's iPad and can say that it really works well even with a fat capacitive touch stylus.
If you want to know more and see some videos on other platforms, use the link below:
http://www.product.metamoji.com/en/anytime/
The app will also allow you to load pdf files straight into it for annotation and has some really nice calligraphy style pens for making your handwriting look really nice. The user interface is very intuitive and all the tools for creating notes are easily at hand. The app also uses vector graphics so if you resize items, you will not lose any quality.
This may be the S-note killer that we have been waiting for although I could not see any shape or formula tools on the iPad version.
Please post any new info about availability if you can find out more.
checked out the link, looks pretty nice...looking forward to this. Thanks for the heads up OP

No problem, I have emailed the developers of the app for some specific functionality for the Note 10.1 i.e. if they will include pen support etc Will let you know if I hear any more news.
I have had some feedback from the company which will give you an idea of what to expect from the app, bear in mind that the answers provided are subject to change depending on what is released. The questions followed by responses are shown below:
1) When do you plan to release the app for the Android platform? Spring next year, it is said.
2) Will it have handwriting to text like 7Notes? Maybe or maybe not. This is under consideration.
3) Will the app facilitate digital pen input? No plan at this moment.
4) If the notes are saved in the Note Anytime format using an iPad, can it be read on other platforms such as android or Windows 8 with editing functionality? Yes! You can share the notes among different devices using our storage service "Digital Cabinet".
Look nice, but tired of being the last platform again

Hi all,
A beta version of the app has been launched on the Google play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metamoji.noteanytime_beta
It has tons of useful functionality but handwriting/ drawing needs to be improved for the note 10.1, especially with curved letters such as s. Strangely, handwriting worked ok with the note 2.
It has OneNote like functionality with regards to text and works really well with the 7Notes handwriting entry panel (separate app from same developers with amazing handwriting recognition)
In its current state, other than the issue mentioned above, features work really well and this can easily become the top note taking tool on Android to date. It just needs to work seamlessly with the note 10.1 to achieve this.
This looks really nice but I agree on the handwriting portion. Everytime I try to write a "w" it puts a \ and asks if I want to add an item.
Using the Samsung OCR keyboard works perfectly and I like the scaling and repositioning functionality.
I'll keep it installed for now hoping that they update soon on the handwriting options.
looks awesome, will try it now.
Re: Note Anytime - coming soon on Google Play
Needs better RTF and text functions but promising.

Yep, same issue here, I have emailed the developers and they have acknowledged there is an issue but seems to be only affecting the note series. They have passed to the development team to look into.
Will keep you updated if I here anything.
when using spen the screen seems to be very little responsive compearing to ie. lecture notes.
i need to push spen pretty hard to write and no continous writing was possible then. even on sensitive settings.
in lecture notes it is like writing on paper. in this app, not really.
lots of work to be done if they want to make the app spen compatible.
.
A new version (beta II) has been released today.
Unfortunately it seems that there's still no support for Samsung S Pen, even if
in the new version announcement notice (here) it's said that
...
- Improved handwriting (in particular, for 10.1 size tablet with Samsung S-pen)
...
Anyway I couldn't set (or see) any pressure sensitivity in the handwriting with the stylus (nor any palm rejection setting too).
But maybe I have missed them.
Or (hopefully) they will come with the next official release.

I've updated it today and can say that it is very usable now, before the update it was almost impossible to write any curved letters. The writing is very smooth now.
I think the fix was mainly so that it could work with the Note 10.1 Spen, non Note users did not have issues using their fingers or fat stylus's. pressure sensitivity was definitely not a part of this update.
For palm rejection to work, move the S-Pen close to where you want to write until you can see the S-Pen dot hovering on the screen and start writing. If you now rest your palm, there should not be any issues.
Today's update makes the app functional using our notes although there is room for improvement going forward.
It will be my ideal app if this note-anytime UI combine with lecture-note function ...

Op has been updated with the latest news about this app.
I am loving the new update. Lines are smooth and writing feels pretty good. The only thing is I feel like there is still a little bit of lag when writing and then lag when clicking menus.
I cannot wait for the S-pen only option to be implemented. That plus some performance tweaks would make it my primary notetaking app. The features are pretty solid at the moment I think. Keep it up!
Can anyone share the app?
I would like to try that but in Google Play I get info, that the app isnt available for my phone
I have Galaxy Note 2 with fully functional NOTE 10.1 rom on it(miniTAB rom).
Tnx for help and take care
There definitely seems to be more lag.

Hey guys, I've released my first app on the Market and it's made and tested on the Transformer.
I want this app to be as close to writing on real paper as possible. I'll be using this app myself to take math notes when school starts. Let me know what you think!
Features:
Smooth writing experience: no lag and no jitter between the stylus movement and the screen response. This is the most important part for me; having loads of features doesn't matter if I can't write well! It works perfectly on the Transformer and I'm testing it out on other tablets.
Smart palm detection. Only records the writing from your stylus! (note: only works for right handed people now. will add the setting for left-handers later)
Export page and notebook: share the page as PNG file, or export the whole thing as a ZIP file to your dropbox or gmail. Share works with programs like Evernote. You can also export it as a PDF file!
Paper type: comes with four familiar paper types.
Stylus calibration: Instead of drawing where the stylus touches the screen, it will draw where you *think* the stylus tip is. Good for those thicker tip styluses.
I use a Griffin stylus: http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Techn...0K1Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314056598&sr=8-1, modded with the rubber grip from a Pentel pencil: http://www.amazon.com/Pentel-Twist-E.../dp/B00006IEH1

I look forward to using this app when I get a stylus. Palm detection seemed to work well from resting my palm and using my pinky/other hand to write.

I definitely recommend the Griffin stylus. The tip is a bit fat but once you do the calibration it works just fine. I was happy to be able to write subscripts and superscripts (exponents) clearly. The Transformer's screen is really sensitive. Just loving it. I don't know how it compares to other tablets though.
I am using a rocketfish stylus I picked up from bestbuy and it works beautifully. One thing I would like to request though is a landscape mode.
Writing in portrait is kind of akward... Also there is a small amount of lag, keep up the good work and I would like to let you know this is the best App of its kind in the market!

Nice app! Will try it out when college starts!
Not that impressed
It is an excellent idea, but my stylus left gaps in the letters, it was hard to differentiate between a c and an e for example. Now it could be that my stylus (there are no thins ones for capacitive screens, right?) isn't good enough so I ordered the Griffin from Amazon (OP you should get a cut). We'll see.
Can it also convert handwriting to actual text?
any free version to try ?
Free version in the other thread. Just download and install the APK
Good looking app.
Thoughts:
- Love the palm detection.
- Add Landscape mode.
- Lags a bit.
- FreeNote picks up my handwriting better (i.e. not all stylus strokes are being recognized.)
System Used:
- Asus TF w/ Prime 1.7 & Netformer
- Targus stylus. Very similar to the Griffin if not the same.
Thanks for sharing
Great app use it for school everyday. Would love to see in the future the ablity to copy a page ( like a graph ) so I don't have to redo it over and over. Also it would be cool if we could import text documents ( online teacher notes) and use the stylus to take notes in the margins during lectures. Landscape mode would be wonderful and improved response time too. Also one bug I noticed not sure if anyone else has noticed but occasionally strokes will disappear immediately after making them. Thanks so much for this app it is really amazing.

I purchased this app to possibly further development because I think it has potential. Will you add pressure sensitivity similar to how AutoDesk's Sketchbook works? I use that currently to take notes but I really like the palm recognition with this app. I have used this application for note taking for a few weeks prior to purchasing it. Thanks!
one more thing i'd love to see if possible, could you add the option to change the color of the pen stroke.

Palm recognition is where when you place the palm of your hand on the screen as a rest for writing the screen then does not detect the palm as a 'touch' for writing/drawing.
Basically how it works is the same on many TabletPC's in where the 'touch' point area is smaller before registering a hit on the screen.
So, a small area of say a pen or finger is registered and shows on the screen, whereas a larger area of say a palm is not registered and as such does not show on the screen.
Pretty decent. Im using the Targus stlyus.
A few complaints- I tend to be a small writer so it sometimes doesnt recognize my w's, e's, etc.
Im not sure if its the stylus but there seems to be a small bit of lag when you write.
Also, I'd love if zooming in was inegrated- this way if you do any math equations, its not HUGE and you could easily write a fraction of sorts. Maybe like on the left side next to where you can scroll, add a scroll zoom bar or + - buttons in a corner.
Im really wanting to use this and possibly get rid of paper completely this semester and keep it all digital. Teachers even said they want to and want us to save paper.
Keep pushing updates and ill be happy

Great app i think i may have used the trial in my exploration for an app that supports my needs.
i was wondering if the "left hand" update is available and what it may include?
what i would like (not sure if other lefties would be interested) is,
have the phone in landscape
the writing pad on the left
the digital paper on the right (in portrait view)
If you or any other developer is able to do this, it would be worth double your current $9.99 asking price for the app for me.
(a 7 day trial would be awesome just to make sure its the app that suits me.)
Thanks in advance.
Has anyone tried this with a Jot?
Is there a limited trial version available?
Can it convert from graphics to text?

Hi folks
At the moment to me Notes Mobile does the job but only just.
I can tell you that Notesmobile is being developed. I am in possession of Beta 1.1.9 at the moment.
Please don't ask for a copy of it as it is one of the conditions of me having it.
It's a pretty raw beta , so no pen thickness or colour changing or anything.
Major things that I've noted:
1. There is finally a PEN ONLY palm rejection setting that works a treat.
2. The OCR both automatic and freehand conversion seems to be more accurate and quicker
3. You can import a picture , move it and resize it
4. New lasoo system that works a bit better and a few interface tweaks.
5. On the first page you can set up views, so you can further catagorise your notebooks ( So a Personal view with multiple notebooks, a Work related view with multiple notebooks ).
Things it doesn't fix address that I know are on some peoples wishlists:
1. More export options ( still only text and img )
2. Landscape mode
Don't forget though it is a Beta !!
So a heads up that it is being developed and it is certainly a step ahead of the original release.
They expect to release at CES Las Vegas in January, so it shouldn't be far from coming to us though whether it will be a free or paid upgrade I'm not sure but I've asked my contact though it might not be his area within the business.
Thanks a lot. Is there any way for custom backgrounds, or is that not present yet? Also, when you say release in January, they're going to present the new software of Notesmobile at CES? Never really seen new software at CES but yeah, that still sounds awesome. But yeah, I have to ask, are you involved somewhat with the development or do you just have contacts with one of the persons that's working there?
As I say it's a very raw beta.
1. No custom background, only blank, lined, graph and yellow lined a per the previous version.
2. Yes they intend to launch @ CES January 10th 2012 Las Vegas
3. Nope not involved with the Vision Objects at all. I contacted the guys a while ago around Myscript Stylus and as a consequence got chatting with them. They offered me the beta to get my feedback
Nice to hear that it's still being developed. The whole lack of cummunication felt like they've abandoned this app which really has a lot of potential but is right now quite useless for me.
Let's hope they'll add some more export options until January and also a possibility to back everything up.
This application has the raw goods and with a few [meaningful] tweaks and additional features I could become a daily user...
Thanks for the information on the update. I emailed them about wanting a pen-only mode and they simply responded with a cryptic "thanks for your interest we are constantly working to improve our software" reply that contained no valuable information. I am so glad to hear that they are in fact working on it and have implemented a pen-only mode. Hopefully MyScript Stylus will also get pen-only mode in a future update.
With CES just around the corner, I'll be see what the update is on the update .....
I'll let you all know

Quill is still better tho. still overly complicated writing notes in it.
It doesn't have OCR, but I've been hunting for a few days, and I'm most impressed with FreeNote. It doesn't seem to pick up on my hand on the screen, ever. It uses tags, classifications/categories for organization. It's definitely not a candied Apple app, so it takes some getting used to (it's intuitive enough but not artificially prettied, nothing hides its complexity, tongue is misspelled, and classifications=categories, more or less). It does some truly amazing stuff. I expect it to sell (out) in about March or April, but I'm just some schmuck user, so....
I'm happy to see that Phatware is in the Android game now. I used WritePad on WinMo3-6, but it looks by the reviews like they're having a terrible time. They'll weather it and raise the bar, I'm sure, and when I'm fed up with XT9, I'll likely buy WritePad if it gets even a few good reviews. They deserve a few snacks for PhatPad. I *still* use it on my HTC Advantage sometimes (animated gifs I draw, easy export, and the 5" screen is perfect for quick notes & doodling).
The XT9 handwriting input is pretty amazing (my handwriting sucks, really). I can't figure out why the Notes Mobile App is so bad at recognizing my same awful handwriting. Very eager to see what happens. The inline OCR is what I've been watching for for, like, 10 years.
There is a note app that I have been using called Lecture Notes... works a lot better than Notes mobile. Developed directly on the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet. It is still really new but he updates the thing about three times a week it seems like.
when using it you can disable the touch interface all together so the palm isn't an issue. There is a trial version on the market.
Still the best app for me
For business I'm using a Lenovo Windows 'tablet' with MS Notes. Honestly, that spoilled me. Comming now to Android seems to step back years in history and development. Never the less, I arranged myself with Notes Mobile and Evernotes. The only big issue I have with notes mobile is the unavailable option to export whole notebooks as pdf or pictures.
Why I think Notes mobile is the best compromise:
- The Lasso (u write something and u realise u need more space, the lasso helps! All the other programs require the eraser and to do all the work again...)
- handwriting recognition, that can be easily combined with sketches and quick note...
Only issue
- pdf export
A work around for no PDF export
I installed Cloud Print on my Android device
I installed EStrongs File Explorer (or you could use the native Dropbox client or Dropsync) on my Android device
I set up a Dropbox account with installation on my PC
I installed Bullzip on my Windows PC
I set Bullzip to automatically save "prints" to a Dropbox folder
Anything you can share via Cloud Print (most things) you can print to a PDF.
It's a traffic-heavy way to do it, so it's ungreen, and could be pricey if you're using a paid & limited data plan.
(I discovered this while testing. If anyone can help me get my Epson RX595 to work with Cloud Print app for Android, obviously Bullzip is fine, as are test pages via Cloud Print from Chrome on my pc, I'd be ever so grateful for a PM).
Could someone do me a huge favor and upload the latest version of the Notes Mobile app? I can't install the latest version of your app store to download it and it doesn't show up in the old version. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Feeling a little silly right now, but how do I get the updated version of Notesmobile?
V1.0.0 came with my TPT.
I created an account in Lenovo app shop, but didn't see anything in the "My apps" section. Tried searching for it in the app shop, but it's not showing up either.
Thanks in advance
Hey people, just a quick post about WritePad from PhatWare. Hands down, this is the BEST handwriting recognition app on the Market. Samsung's default app wasnt bad, but this is heaps better.
$10 in the Play Store, and worth every cent. Enjoy.

If you think Writepad is good, it means you haven't tried 7notes. I used to think Writepad was the best until I tried 7Notes.
The accuracy is even better and is only a tenth of what Writepad costs. It has much better recognition quality than Writepad.
Try it and posts your thoughts.
Thanks for the heads up on 7 note. I used to think Write Pad was good too, but I just tried 7 note and the recognition is really good. Even with my poor cursive.
l didn't buy Write Pad when I tried it a few weeks ago because it was a little expensive and I wasn't sure how much I'd use it.
7 note is so cheap I bought it to have on hand as another input method in case I want to use it.
Glad to have been able to help, I was also amazed at how well it recognised my cursive handwriting taken at speed.
I attend a lot of meetings at work and need to take notes quickly so I use the 7Notes own application and then when the meeting is concluded, I go back to my desk and convert them into text.
I still tend to use Swype for any other text input necessary i.e. SMS, basic quick emails etc
On the same note : Phatpad was the most used app by me I was the windows mobile. They recently released Phatpad for Android and it's a nice note taking application and also has inbuilt dropbox sync. I wish they include evernote sync like in ios version.

Hmmm, having issues with Google Checkout paying for 7notes, but thanks for the reviews to you guys here!
7Notes is amazing. completely blows s Memo out of the water in hand writing recognition. Thanks for the headsup on this app.
7notes (rather: maze) is pretty good - as long as you stick to English. It can recognize German, but only on a word to word basis (no conversion of handwritten sentences). I don't quite get how the user dictionary works or how the app can learn new words?
Hint: If you're using Evernote, don't bother entering your account detail in 7notes. Just write the note, then through the menu send it as email. At the dialogue, you can chose to create an Evernote instead.
7notes could be useful is we could switch between hand recognition and our preferred keyboard. But at the moment, 7notes provide its own keyboard that is quite unusable... what a pitty...
I actually think the 7notes keyboard is pretty good.
Things that I think are better than the stock Note keyboard are the @ / , : + - keys being available on the main keyboard without having to go press shift or symbol, and also the cursor button for moving the cursor back and forth on the main screen too.
The only thing I don't like about it is that pressing the shift key is like pressing caps lock, it doesn't just use shift for the next key you press, you have to press it again to turn shift off.

That would be the perfect combination, if that could be done, my combination will be Swype and 7Notes. I might suggest this to them and see if they will consider it.
i use hacker's keyboard, as a real pc/tablet one. so nothing to do with 7note keyboard with even no decent space key !
How is 7Notes better than the built in hand-writing recognition the original samsung keyboard offers? I think it does a pretty amazing job in this respect (only punctuation is no recognized well).
I understand that 7Notes also provides recognition for complete text like S-Memo should do (and does badly). But if this only works in English I am not extremely interested in this feature So that's not my question

For me the built in recognition was not very accurate, I would guess about 75 percent accuracy whereas 7Notes is approximately 97-99 percent accurate depending on the type of notes I am taking and accuracy is less especially when using numbers in my notes.
Another major factor for me is that I can take my notes in my own handwriting using the 7Notes app and then convert the notes into typed text at a later time allowing me to make any corrections without having to make them whilst taking the notes.
As for other languages, it does not concern me personally as I only need to write in English.
Just to double check.. is this the app you guys are talking about ?
"7notes with mazec for Android" by MetaMoJi
it doesn't look so popular (given the feedback I'm reading in this thread)
Yes, this is the app, it's only recently been released, I don't think the name of the app helps it very much as it does not say what it does.
If you read the feedback, you will see that there are very positive reviews for it. Try it within the 15 period and you will immediately see the benefits.

You must have very neat handwriting
My handwriting is pretty poor and the inbuilt handwriting recognition had trouble recognising a lot of my words. 7Note recognises almost all of my scrawl, even when I write in cursive.
If the inbuilt recognition works well for your handwriting, then you probably won't get that much benefit from using 7note.
I only use the input method (Mazec) from 7note, I don't use the app.

As 7Notes is English only it's not so useful for me. Therefore I cannot say anything about benefit or not. Converting long older texts would be useful. A better recognition of punctuation would be useful.
Maybe they will offer more languages later.
At least now I know about it and can follow the development. It sure sounds interesting.
hi,
I can not install MyScript Note on my asus tf300t, I seek an alternative.
I think 7notes matches my needs: it recognizes my handwriting very well, the other advantage is that you can keep her handwritten notes (to send, print ...) but also type them in 1 / 4 seconds.
but it is only available in English, I'm French ...
someone he would parade to "circumvent" this problem?:silly:
EDIT : MyScript Notes installing on my TF300t (tks Swipzzy)
how tu use 7notes en french ? a solution must exist ???
I just got a Note 10.1 and was wondering if Papyrus or Quill was better.
They seem to be very similar, can somebody who has one or both tell me their opinion about using them to take notes for class?
I noticed Papyus is free but with add ons, how much do they cost?
Also are they multiscreen supported?
Or is there a better lecture taking app out there?
Lecture notes is my current go to choice for taking notes. Right now I don't think it can be beat.
Have hope for MyScript though. MyScript has one feature I really wish lecture notes had, the ability to convert handwritten notes to text based on the fly.
I use Papyrus all the time, I prefer Papyrus to Lecture Notes... mainly due to the UI I prefer a lot... but it is not perfect, some basic features are still missing.
Papyrus worth the price...4 $ I think with all features

That's mine to, but I've never really tried anyone else since I'm so happy with LectureNotes.
One can solve that by using a keyboard for that, Samsung standard keyboard had a handwriting mode and if you don't like that one I'm sure there are plenty others. If you're rooted you can use tasker to set default keyboard for any given application so you won't have to change manually every time.

I use LectureNotes all the time at uni. But one thing, that Papyrus/Quill do better, is that they are vector based instead of pixel based.
If someday LectureNotes will have that feature too, it will be perfect for me!
Can you import lecture notes into papyrus?

I've not used papyrus that much but the only way I can see is to export the notebook from LectureNotes to PDF and then import it to Papyrus somehow. Since LectureNotes are bitmap and papyrus are vector based I can't see any other way.

Papyrus looks great but I have weeks worth of notes in Lnotes.

I should add the app Write to the list.
It has the following pros:
It's free
Uses vector graphics
Supports pressure sensitivity of the S-Pen. It's even possible to adjust the pressure sensitivity level.
It's possible to use pages of different sizes and the size of a page can grow automatically when you write close to the edge and do not want/can't start a new line.
It's possible to select part of the handwriting to copy/move/resize it or change its style (color-ink size)
The note file is saved in HTML/SVG format, that should be viewable using any web browser (also on the PC).
One of the "cons" is that it lacks the ability to import pdf or images in the note (but it can export the note to PDF). That is probably understandable as it uses vector graphics and not bitmaps.
However, it is an app simple and well made (with several customization options) and, in my opinion, it's slightly better than Papyrus (between the apps with vector graphics).
So, at the moment, my ranking is:
1) LectureNotes (bitmap based but unbeatable for the number of options)
2) Write (vector graphics based)
3) Papyrus (vector graphics based)
4) Quill (vector graphics based)
Write is the winner for me now
Write updated recently and now you can import images into it. It also had really neat features before that.
If you are writing a sentence and forget a word you can add space by doing a ruled space insert. And it will actually shift words across the line and then down to the next line, which is really cool. It keeps everything nice and organized in the lines.
The undo has a neat "wheel" feature where you can hold down when you click the undo button, if you hold it down then you can rotate in a circle around the wheel that appears to undo multiple things very quickly, but only undo what you want to. It's a little weird to explain, so if that didn't make any sense at all, I'm sorry.
You can also do normal things like select text and move it places.
They have also added in folders now, so you can organize for different classes.
I have tried Lecture Notes and Papyrus to take notes in the university. And my final result is Papyrus. I have pay the two app xpansions to sync with dropbox and be able to draw some forms. By the way, it supports multiwindow.
I tried Lecture Notes for handwriting but Papyrus was a winner due to vector based note manipulation. This is great when you move around and zoom objects and they do not get distorted.
The downside of Papyrus is you need to invest some money (in app) to be able to have your files synced and as its using some kind of proprietary db to save notes you can not locate them in storage or simply sync them via FolderSync.
Another extension would enable text typing and erasing parts of strokes.
I almost went for Papyrus extensions but just revently found even better handwriting app (and free by this time) - Write. It does not have mentioned limitations, has great select feature, picture import (perfect for scanned documents), PDF and HTML export.
If is definitely worth trying if you own LN or Papyrus.
I've used Write but as I use a 3rd party stylus with my N8010, there's a 1mm offset that is very annoying. I've switched back to Quill for the now until I can get the offset issue sorted out.

I see you have left Awesome Note and Evernote completely out of this discussion is that due to the fact that you cannot hand write your notes in either of these? Or at least I haven't found away to. I see some advantages to both of these Awesome Note the calendar sync ability. Evernote the cross platform so I don't have to worry which device I am using all my info is available. I also like the UI of Evernote it fits my organizational ideas. If it just had hand writing to text recognition and at a reasonable speed I would be so happy. Looking forward to your thoughts.

I love evernote and also wish they would include handwrite note taking. All my notes available on all my devices. Awesome. Sigh! But for using handwriting instead of keyboard.
I bought LN, but am disappointed. Papyrus looks good, but I have some notes in LN which I want to copy to papyrus but haven't figured out how. Any help here?
I will try out quill and write.
Thanks
There has been no activity here for a while. Has there been any progress in these? Which apps are abandoned? which support current devices? Any new ones to consider?
All are still good. I've used Quill and Papyrus pretty much as long as I've owned my tablet and recently downloaded Write to try. Lecture Notes happens to be free today in the Amazon App store, so I've just downloaded that but haven't yet used it. Since I don't have tons of notes that need to be grouped or organized, my preferences are based on actually using the apps, not how well they function as a complete system. So take into account if you need this app to also be more like an Evernote or complete storage system, you might value the apps differently than I do.
Quill isn't actively being worked on, and has fewer features and pretty much non-existent organization of notes. But I find it the nicest to actually use if all I want to do is write from scratch. I just like how it's organized, how the menus work, the writing experience, the palm rejection, the eraser settings etc. Notes export just fine to Evernote, to a directory, or to several other Android app the same way the "share" button typically works, and so I export and organize pdfs outside of the app.
Papyrus is my go-to if I need to import a pdf (paid add-on to get this feature). It's also quite good, but I do find it just slightly clunkier to use than Quill. I'm often making little mistakes I need to correct because I'm expecting it to act like Quill, but it doesn't. If I could only have one app, it would have to be Papyrus just because I do need the ability to annotate pdfs in addition to writing notes from scratch. But it always seems *just* a tad more effort to use than Quill. Not enough to be a big deal, but enough to notice that I'm not using Quill. Papyrus was just updated a few days ago, so this is an entirely full-featured, current app that does everything I need it to do. It has some basic note organization which is certainly better than nothing and perfectly sufficient for my needs. I *like* it, I just wish it felt more like Quill while I was using it.
I've had Write for a few weeks and used it a bit. The web view is useful if you would use that (top part of your screen is a browser, then your document is beneath, for you to take notes while on a web page). The "insert space" feature is completely unintuitive, and I still can't figure out how to use it properly, but the "lasso mode" to circle and move text around works as expected, and is a welcome feature that I only recently learned Papyrus has and wish that Quill had! I think in general, I just don't find it the easiest thing to use. It has a lot of menu items, some of which don't intuitively make sense. I think I would have to use it a lot more to actually feel comfortable using it, although it does a lot of things. I've been using software like this since my old tablet PCs 10 years ago, and still I feel like there's a lot of "figuring out" how the developer meant this app to work required to use it. But, it's free! Zooming works well, and you can export to PDF but not import a PDF. It doesn't appear to have been updated since 2013, but then again, neither has Quill and I have no hesitation recommending that one, provided you're OK with a limited feature set and primarily want a smooth writing experience.
I've only just downloaded lecture notes today but I know this is a very popular app and was updated earlier this month. It felt like over kill to me when I tested the free trial version years ago. And even just launching it today, I'm finding all the various menu options and settings a little overwhelming. I didn't feel like I could just pick up and go with this one, although if I dedicated myself to learning and using it, I'd probably appreciate all the customization possible. I tried to find a few basic settings that I know I like (eg stroke erase) and the first hurdle seems to be that it doesn't support that. But, the "cutter" feature (like the "lasso" of Write) works very well and I can see myself using that. You can't initially import pdf files, but have to download their free PDFview app. Once I did that, the menu option to import PDF appeared, but it's kind of a weird PDF import. Instead of actually writing on the PDF (like other apps do), you import maybe a graphic of the pdf (?) because it shows up in the way an imported image would, in a smaller box with the ability to resize it. Trying to resize the PDF to a full page made the original pdf text a little fuzzy. So, I'm not exactly pleased with that compared to Papyrus, but I need to be a little pickier about having original-quality looking PDFs that I can then annotate. Also, that imported PDF doesn't become the background like it does in Papyrus, but rather I found that when I went to erase something, I erased the underlying PDF, too. I think LectureNotes supports multiple layers, so if you go to the trouble of figuring that out, then I would assume you could protect that layer, or only edit layers on top of it. Sorry if this all sounds negative, and certainly I have very little experience with this app so most of this really speaks to how user-friendly it initially seems coming from other apps, and not an indication of how someone well-versed in the app experiences it.
If you must restrict yourself to one app, and PDF import is important to you, I think it has to be Papyrus. Of course, since Write is free, you don't have to restrict yourself to just one. Try Write and maybe it's good enough for you. It's difficult to recommend Quill if you care about organizing the original notes because you do just get one mess of files. But things export nicely, and it's the one I'm happiest actually writing with, if all I'm doing is handwriting notes. My initial reaction opening Lecture Notes is that I don't like it compared to the others, and I don't immediately see what I get from it that I don't from Papyrus. But it's free today, so if you happen to see this then grab it for yourself from Amazon.
I want to write notes for subjects using my NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1, but I don't know which note taking app to use :/ I have DirectStylus 2 btw
The Squid app is OK, but handwriting looks worse with it, and you NEED to pay for it pretty much. I want stuff backed up.
Bamboo paper seems cool, nice none intrusive ui and free backing up. Seems like there's enough features for free
There's so many note taking apps, and I need full commitment to just one. Also any tips for me, like the best way to hold/use the stylus would be cool
I can fully recommend Lecture Notes: PlayStore
There are plenty of settings to adjust the app. I really liked to use it and it is definitively worth the money. Also you can set, that you can scroll in the notebook with your finger and write with the pen. PDF-Import possible and so on. Just take a look at the trial version
I've been using FiiNotes
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fiistudio.fiinote
Very flexible
Keyboard support
Handwrite support
Cloud Sync ( free and premium accounts)
Multiple platform ( Android, Win, Mac and maybe iOS)
Kinda like a slightly more complex and capable Evernote meets lecture notes. Note there is a slight learning curve to get the most out of the app and platform, but I feel it was well worth it
I've been using it for 3 years, not perfect but very happy with the features and capabilities of the suite
