Hey people, just a quick post about WritePad from PhatWare. Hands down, this is the BEST handwriting recognition app on the Market. Samsung's default app wasnt bad, but this is heaps better.
$10 in the Play Store, and worth every cent. Enjoy.

If you think Writepad is good, it means you haven't tried 7notes. I used to think Writepad was the best until I tried 7Notes.
The accuracy is even better and is only a tenth of what Writepad costs. It has much better recognition quality than Writepad.
Try it and posts your thoughts.
Thanks for the heads up on 7 note. I used to think Write Pad was good too, but I just tried 7 note and the recognition is really good. Even with my poor cursive.
l didn't buy Write Pad when I tried it a few weeks ago because it was a little expensive and I wasn't sure how much I'd use it.
7 note is so cheap I bought it to have on hand as another input method in case I want to use it.
Glad to have been able to help, I was also amazed at how well it recognised my cursive handwriting taken at speed.
I attend a lot of meetings at work and need to take notes quickly so I use the 7Notes own application and then when the meeting is concluded, I go back to my desk and convert them into text.
I still tend to use Swype for any other text input necessary i.e. SMS, basic quick emails etc
On the same note : Phatpad was the most used app by me I was the windows mobile. They recently released Phatpad for Android and it's a nice note taking application and also has inbuilt dropbox sync. I wish they include evernote sync like in ios version.

7Notes is amazing. completely blows s Memo out of the water in hand writing recognition. Thanks for the headsup on this app.
7notes (rather: maze) is pretty good - as long as you stick to English. It can recognize German, but only on a word to word basis (no conversion of handwritten sentences). I don't quite get how the user dictionary works or how the app can learn new words?
Hint: If you're using Evernote, don't bother entering your account detail in 7notes. Just write the note, then through the menu send it as email. At the dialogue, you can chose to create an Evernote instead.

I actually think the 7notes keyboard is pretty good.
Things that I think are better than the stock Note keyboard are the @ / , : + - keys being available on the main keyboard without having to go press shift or symbol, and also the cursor button for moving the cursor back and forth on the main screen too.
The only thing I don't like about it is that pressing the shift key is like pressing caps lock, it doesn't just use shift for the next key you press, you have to press it again to turn shift off.

That would be the perfect combination, if that could be done, my combination will be Swype and 7Notes. I might suggest this to them and see if they will consider it.
i use hacker's keyboard, as a real pc/tablet one. so nothing to do with 7note keyboard with even no decent space key !

For me the built in recognition was not very accurate, I would guess about 75 percent accuracy whereas 7Notes is approximately 97-99 percent accurate depending on the type of notes I am taking and accuracy is less especially when using numbers in my notes.
Another major factor for me is that I can take my notes in my own handwriting using the 7Notes app and then convert the notes into typed text at a later time allowing me to make any corrections without having to make them whilst taking the notes.
As for other languages, it does not concern me personally as I only need to write in English.
Just to double check.. is this the app you guys are talking about ?

Yes, this is the app, it's only recently been released, I don't think the name of the app helps it very much as it does not say what it does.
If you read the feedback, you will see that there are very positive reviews for it. Try it within the 15 period and you will immediately see the benefits.

You must have very neat handwriting
My handwriting is pretty poor and the inbuilt handwriting recognition had trouble recognising a lot of my words. 7Note recognises almost all of my scrawl, even when I write in cursive.
If the inbuilt recognition works well for your handwriting, then you probably won't get that much benefit from using 7note.
I only use the input method (Mazec) from 7note, I don't use the app.

As 7Notes is English only it's not so useful for me. Therefore I cannot say anything about benefit or not. Converting long older texts would be useful. A better recognition of punctuation would be useful.
Maybe they will offer more languages later.
At least now I know about it and can follow the development. It sure sounds interesting.

I can not install MyScript Note on my asus tf300t, I seek an alternative.
I think 7notes matches my needs: it recognizes my handwriting very well, the other advantage is that you can keep her handwritten notes (to send, print ...) but also type them in 1 / 4 seconds.
but it is only available in English, I'm French ...
someone he would parade to "circumvent" this problem?:silly:

It works fine for me with handwriting and I can fill in gaps later with graphs and pictures. The issue comes when you try to use handwriting recognition. The handwriting recognition software will cut you off in mid sentence, input what it translates and take some time to start recognizing the SPen input again. The math function and shape recognition work fine too.
To me it is like pen and paper.
I use it for taking notes and at the end of class I export it to pdf which I then have linked to my dropbox account.

I couldn't get used to S-note's handwriting. Instead, I pick the text entry mode and use the built-in handwriting instead of keyboard, works much better for me.

well ive been using my note for my organic chem class....and so far its been pretty good. using S-note at the moment, but looking for a even better app.
Also i was able to get my hands on some pdf textbooks that i need for my science classes and reading/annotating been okay but again..looking for other apps with better UI. tho lecturenotes seems promising...

That depends on how big is your handwriting. You can probably zoom in a bit and use the thinnest pen size possible to cram in as many annotations as possible on a page.
And yes, it can sense pressure (up to 1000 levels if I'm not mistaken).
Bought the Adonit Jot. It's pretty good (after adding some conductive grease), but wish the writing angle could go a little lower.
So I'm doing my Masters in Management and need to take notes. No math or science, so I just need a good simple handwriting app. I know there are some threads on this, and I've read them. I'm looking into seeing if there have been any recent updates in the handwriting app world recently.
My requirements:
1) Something to prevent accidental touches, either palm recognition or other.
2) Handwriting looks good (Not my writing, the way the program handles it)
3) I like the "input area" that then transfers to the page, the ones where you write all over the page just don't work so well.
I've tried:
ezPDF Reader - don't like the full page thing. If I was doing Chemistry, it'd be better
Handrite - Awesome, but glitchy. Sometimes writing doesn't get transferred, and one time it screwed up my note, but luckily the program saved a backup
Supernote - OK, but not anywhere as good as Handrite
Lecture Notes - don't like the full page thing, also palm recognition doesn't work to well. Also my writing looks terrible in this program.
Papyrus - Installed, but haven't tried it yet.
and some others I can't remember
Anyway, I'm looking to see if there have been any more improvements in handwriting apps lately.
Also, if anyone knows of a better stylus than the adonit jot let me know. The adonit jot is very good, almost great, not fantastic. Particularly I'd like a lower writing angle (Adonit's is 45) and something lighter. That thing is heavy.

There is also a new version of the handwriting recognition app called 'Mazec2' which has also been released. If you have purchased the first version, they have advised not to purchase as existing users will get a free upgrade soon. This app will allow you to write in your own handwriting using Note Anytime and convert to text later e.g. after returning to your desk from a meeting etc.

mazec2 also allows you to use handwriting input in any app that uses a keyboard however will convert the handwriting to text as you go i.e. will not let you convert to text later unless used in conjunction with Note Anytime or another app known as 7Notes.
The app works brilliantly with the Note 10.1 but unfortunately does not offer stylus only (S-Pen) input at present. To use palm rejection, place the S-Pen close to the screen until you can see the dot and then rest your palm on the screen and write away.
Another issue with the android version is that you cannot convert notes to PDF directly from the app, the notes are saved as images in your gallery whereby you can use a third party app to convert them all into a single PDF document.

There's a new note taking app coming our way and hopefully will be the most full featured and smooth app for this purpose to date.
It has been released for iPad and the new Windows platform but us Android users have to wait as usual. Hopefully they are saving the best till last!
The app has been developed by the same team that brought us 7Notes, anyone who knows about the 7Notes app will testify that it is one of the best if not, the best handwriting to text apps available.
Notes Anytime hopefully will include this functionality with S-pen compatibility but unfortunately I could not find any confirmation of this. The iPad version does not have handwriting to text option however the Windows one does.
I have tried the app on my wife's iPad and can say that it really works well even with a fat capacitive touch stylus.

The app will also allow you to load pdf files straight into it for annotation and has some really nice calligraphy style pens for making your handwriting look really nice. The user interface is very intuitive and all the tools for creating notes are easily at hand. The app also uses vector graphics so if you resize items, you will not lose any quality.
This may be the S-note killer that we have been waiting for although I could not see any shape or formula tools on the iPad version.

No problem, I have emailed the developers of the app for some specific functionality for the Note 10.1 i.e. if they will include pen support etc Will let you know if I hear any more news.
I have had some feedback from the company which will give you an idea of what to expect from the app, bear in mind that the answers provided are subject to change depending on what is released. The questions followed by responses are shown below:
1) When do you plan to release the app for the Android platform? Spring next year, it is said.
2) Will it have handwriting to text like 7Notes? Maybe or maybe not. This is under consideration.
3) Will the app facilitate digital pen input? No plan at this moment.
4) If the notes are saved in the Note Anytime format using an iPad, can it be read on other platforms such as android or Windows 8 with editing functionality? Yes! You can share the notes among different devices using our storage service "Digital Cabinet".

It has tons of useful functionality but handwriting/ drawing needs to be improved for the note 10.1, especially with curved letters such as s. Strangely, handwriting worked ok with the note 2.
It has OneNote like functionality with regards to text and works really well with the 7Notes handwriting entry panel (separate app from same developers with amazing handwriting recognition)
In its current state, other than the issue mentioned above, features work really well and this can easily become the top note taking tool on Android to date. It just needs to work seamlessly with the note 10.1 to achieve this.

Using the Samsung OCR keyboard works perfectly and I like the scaling and repositioning functionality.

Yep, same issue here, I have emailed the developers and they have acknowledged there is an issue but seems to be only affecting the note series. They have passed to the development team to look into.
Will keep you updated if I here anything.
when using spen the screen seems to be very little responsive compearing to ie. lecture notes.
i need to push spen pretty hard to write and no continous writing was possible then. even on sensitive settings.
in lecture notes it is like writing on paper. in this app, not really.
lots of work to be done if they want to make the app spen compatible.

I've updated it today and can say that it is very usable now, before the update it was almost impossible to write any curved letters. The writing is very smooth now.
I think the fix was mainly so that it could work with the Note 10.1 Spen, non Note users did not have issues using their fingers or fat stylus's. pressure sensitivity was definitely not a part of this update.
For palm rejection to work, move the S-Pen close to where you want to write until you can see the S-Pen dot hovering on the screen and start writing. If you now rest your palm, there should not be any issues.
Today's update makes the app functional using our notes although there is room for improvement going forward.
It will be my ideal app if this note-anytime UI combine with lecture-note function ...

Op has been updated with the latest news about this app.
I am loving the new update. Lines are smooth and writing feels pretty good. The only thing is I feel like there is still a little bit of lag when writing and then lag when clicking menus.
I cannot wait for the S-pen only option to be implemented. That plus some performance tweaks would make it my primary notetaking app. The features are pretty solid at the moment I think. Keep it up!

Do you mean draw by hand or generate from data? Can you provide some examples, googling "economic graph" it just returns all kinds of charts.

A formula editor, try one of the many LaTeX editors and DeTeXify or Equation Notepad. Also give SuperNote a try, the one that comes with your TF700T, not from the Play Store.

First off, if you are looking for a way to convert your handwritten notes to text, take a look at WritePad; it is a complete keyboard replacement. While it only offers basic text conversion abilities, it really comes in handy if you use Evernote to store your notes. (Evernote's "Skitch" app now works on this tablet and could meets your needs for sub and superscript.)
Apps I've used lately for handwriting notes include:
-Papyrus Beta (A tad sluggish on my tablet)
-LectureNotes
-Handrite Note Free/Pro (Really smooth for me; similar to Supernote)
-PenSupremacy (Only gripe here is I can't get it to switch to landscape)

For drawing anything more sophisticated than a scribble, I'd recommend something most people don't take into consideration because they think it's only for artists: Photoshop, Infinite Painter or Sketchbook. Sketchbook has several free versions.
You can just save your graph into an image and import that into a document.
Handwriting I don't do on a tablet because I write too fast by hand for a touchscreen to keep up with. It usually turns out illegible and I end up wondering what the devil I wrote when I review them. :silly:

I have had great luck with 7notes $0.99. It has great handwriting recognition but also a note ability for you to just scribble your notes. It also works as a keyboard replacement. I find its very fast and was a lot less expensive and had better reviews than WritePad $9.99

Hello there,
I've bought my note 10.1 mainly to take notes in college and work, but I found that the way (style) I write is not too compatible with the recognition of the handwriting mode from samsung keyboard, leading to a lot of incorrect words.
So my question is if it is possible to retrain it so it can understand my handwriting better.
If it is not, there is some other app (or keyboard) that do it and can be trained?

It learns the more you use it. Start by going through the alphabet letter by letter then switch to numbers etc. Then do words. After a while it will just get it. You may have to persevere on some words, but even scrawl can be deciphered.

Are you sure about it? I've tried make it understand my D letter and it simply can't, it will always think it is a 'o' or a '0', never a 'd'.
As far as I know, you can't learn the recognition to read your handwriting. It can't learn it like Windows Mobile (PPC 2003) for example could.
Yes l am sure. The handwriting recognition works in the same way that predictive text works. The more you use it the more accurate it becomes. What I forgot to mention before was you need to be online as it is " Real Time ".
l have been using the handwriting on the note for a good few months now. When l first started it was hit and miss. Now, it gets my scrawl more often than not!
Use Snote and just keep writing. You will notice that it starts to pick it up.
I found it pretty good out of the box... I can be a pretty lazy writer especially when it reads my haphazard scrawl so well...
