One Power Guard Battery - Samsung Infuse 4G

Getting better battery life is a struggle most mobile device users will have for the foreseeable future. Even if advanced batteries are released that give users two days of heavy use, there will naturally be a script, an application, and a kernel tweak to improve this figure further. As batteries get better, so do battery applications. Now, a new tool has been released that’s looking to be the best.
The application is called One Power Guard. Made by XDA Forum Member fonter, it is designed for rooted and custom ROM users. It brings an all-in-one approach to battery life and phone tweaking. You can adjust pretty much anything, including the I/O scheduler, CPU governor, CPU over- or under-clocking, settings tweaks, and more. There are also six modes you can choose from that tweak your phone for you. They include:
AI Mode: It intelligently adjusts cpu frequency and optimizes kernel to greatly extend battery time according to system loading.
Powersave Mode: It runs devices under low frequency to extend standby time.
Game/Video Mode: It provides flow game and video experience while offering satisfactory power-saving strategy.
Call Mode: It powers up the core function of phone conservation. For business persons trapping by phone.
Standby Mode: It lowers system frequency and prolongs stand-by time to the extreme. For sleepers and dreamers.
Custom Mode: It indulges pros to customize cpu frequence, scheduling and io adjustment, and to choose parameters of their own.
It’s a really nice application for those who don’t want to re-tweak their phone after every ROM flash and those who don’t know how to tweak their phones manually. For additional information on how each mode works and download links, check out the original thread.
You can try One Power Guard, Download from onexuan.com

I lol'ed at the fact that they state it's for android, yet it has a picture of an iPhone. I'll have to try this. Thanks!

trying this out, we'll see how well it does compared to the others

OK app works much better than anyone I've tried for this matter, doesn't help too too much but it does make a little bit of difference, also this should be obvious but it does slow the system down a bit, and i also had some conflicts with it changing kernel values but I'd rate it a 3.5 out of 5 for what it does though when compared to other apps four the same thing out would be a 4.5-5 not a full 5 because there has to be done room for improvement

Thanks for the info, i'll give this a try your settings.

Settings i used on the app? I just chose ai mode

I'd have to give this probably a 3.5 as well, could be better with a widget for one thing. I used ai most of the time, but when I went to custom mode and changed the frequency for max to 1200, it didn't change it and left it at 200. It did provide a good bit of information though!

Please note that I'm new to this forum, but my suggestion is worth checking out nonetheless.
If your phone is rooted, you could use the app SetCPU to modify the CPU's behaviour. This app will run in the background, and depending on certain parameters set by you (screen on/off, battery below x %, etc.), it can modify the CPU's minimum and maximum clock speeds. You're in control of all the parameters and how the CPU responds to them.
To give a simple example, you can make the CPU run at just 128MHz while the screen is turned off. This will save battery, without affecting performance. You could even overclock the CPU, depending on the ROM you're using and the kernel that's based on - making your phone perform even better when active, while still saving battery when inactive!
You can find the app here. Note that it's downloadable for free from that thread, but there's also a "donate" version in the Android Market, so get that if you want to support the developer.
Hope that helps!
The best app is no app at all. even if you're rooted, most chefs have a custom kernel with all the battery parameter build in where you don't even need setCPU. seriously, what's the logic in increasing battery life when you have supposed "battery saving" running in the background sucking the juice away? be smart with your phone settings because that's ultimately what most battery apps do...with the exception of setCPU, of course.

Juice defender is reported to work if setup correctly

If ive helped hit thanks button
Use logcat to see whats really going on and sucking out the juice.
I have heard a lot too about Juice Defender. I'm going to buy the plus version to see if it works,
It's kinda hard to talk about "battery life app" when you're using dual core, 4,3" beast. logcat+juice is a very good choice but in my opinion best way is to switch from stock rom to something with custom kernel
You may try another ROM. There are lots of custom ROMs which have better battery life but still use sense.
Have a look in "Android Developement" forum...
BTW: what "life" period are you talking about? What is your usage all over about? Battery life depends on many different settings (update intervals, animated widgets or backgrounds, display light, ringtone volume, pocket mode .....)
It's not an app, but your fingers.
I don't think a single app can save your battery life.
I recently installed a custom Gingerbread for my Dell Streak5. (Thanks to DjSteve)
Gingerbread seems a little bit slower than Froyo.
But battery life was extended 10~20%.
You have to check the running services and apps and kill unnecessary apps.
Don't forget to turn off the GPS and location services.
It drains a lot of juice.

[ROM Idea]Dual performance mode

Hi guys I am a newbie here,i bought a samsung captivate just 3 days back and i have been loving it so far i will soon be flashing a custom rom.....!
well as i was looking for features of various roms,i felt i need a rom that has a dual performance mode
like i am a huge fan of graphics so i like decorating my phone and i am ready to sacrifice my battery life but it sometime happens that i need to go out for a day or two and my battery dies!
so here is what i am getting at,can we have rom that has say 2 performance mode one with all nice graphics text animations and all high end stuff and other mode where i get decent features and gives me better battery life....
like i should be able to swap between the modes....
i don know if such a thing is even possible but just my 2 cents...

ok, cyanogenmod supports this out of the box, under cyanogenod settings>performance>cpu settings>available governors
but if your using a different rom, just grab a new kernel, such as talon, and get set cpu and then you can change there governors as well, performance mode or on demand or conservative...

i think there are "governors" / apps you can download that will let you set up profiles and save them so you can quick switch between different profiles.

Well. A true governor is kernel dependant. And so any apps that you download to do it without a supporting kernel will just be (close this app) (turn down brightness) that kind of stuff. Where as set CPU and others like that will actually throttle the CPU down. Lower power consumption down internally. Which will actually have a real benefit.

could look into undervolting as well
Use Launchers
I dont know if this may help you for now, but what I do as a simple fix for this is run two different launchers. I keep touchwiz slimmed down with no widgets. I also put toggles and shortcuts on it to turn off multiple things on the phone that I dont want running all the time etc. I normally run ADW setup the way I like it but when I need to go somewhere for extended periods I just use home switcher to switch to TW.
Just something I found that works ok for me.
Hmmmm thanks guys !

[Q] Any tips on saving battery on Sensation ?

So i just got a deal for a cheap Sensation and decided to give it a try. After a few days, i really like the Sense UI + ICS but find the battery is pretty bad compare to my GS2.
The Sensation drains about 8% overnight while the gs2 drains 2-3% overnight, both with nothing on. When playing music (doing nothing else, screen off) the battery drains a whopping 5%/h. while i dont think the gs2 would drain more than 1%/h just playing music. I thought the battery life on both phones should be more or less the same given the same specs and battery capacity (1650 vs 1520).
To be more specific, my ROM is ARHD 6.5.0 ICS, i havent installed any new app yet, i have the follwing widgets on : email, messages, weather, contact, task, music. I'm not sure if the drainage is coming from those widgets.
One more question, is there any way to quickly change brightness ? (like sliding the status bar as with the gs2). Auto brightness may be draining more battery but going through setting->display->brightness every single time is painful.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
download just defence i got a good result of it underclock your phone a bit to
Is there a kernel that allows undervolting which is fully compatible with ARHD6 ICS ?

something like this should do im not sure havent seen any other kernel for sensetion 3.32 base UV'ed
Juice Defender is a good option to test out, even using default settings it's pretty good with helping battery usage/drain.
Otherwise ARHD is using Sebastian's kernel at this point and you have the choice of using the 1.2 or OC'd 1.5 Ghz speed when flashing. If you're concerned you can use the 1.2 version or flash the 1.5 and just set the clock speed using something like SetCPU, available here on XDA, or System Tuner, from the Market.
As far as I know right now, the kernels are not allowing UV because the official source hasn't been released yet. Once source is released/obtained then things like UV and other deeper optimizations can be done by the awesome kernel developers here.

I normally perform my UVing through System Tuner Pro, but the options are not available at this time, I just checked, so I didn't realize another app that also allowed UV would still allow it. See what I get for assuming...... lol

So you have finally made your choice in choosing between HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II? Found yourself having to recharge your new Android device every 8hours? You’re not alone. Some users reported to have a poor battery performance for their Android phones. Older device ranging from HTC Desire, Motorola Droid, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to the latest dual-core Android phones; LG Optimus 2x, Motorla Atrix, HTC Sensation, and Samsung Galaxy S II, are not sparred with complains of poor battery life. However, Android itself is not a power hogger, or call it battery juice sucker if you like. Many users were able to get their Android device up and running in a single charge up to 3 days(gosh I missed the good old Nokia 3310-era).There are many factors in leading to poor battery life. The very main reasons are the display and unnecessarily turned on features, which some users don’t have a clue in turning it off. If you are happened to be one of the Android users not happy of the current battery performance, or you simply just want to improve the extra mileage of your Android device’s battery performance, here are some tips in improving the battery life of your Android phone.

Battery problems absolutely solved with "3g off" widget, on the market. I don't need anything more than basic phone and sms for hours at a time so I just hit the widget. Takes a few seconds to sync latest mail when it comes back on but less time than that to just find a 4g link. Great when I'm at the ofc where my mail gets pushed to my laptop anyway.
Very useful also in a weak-signal area, stops drain due to signal-search.
Juice Defender is very good for battery life but this solution is even better although the widget does require manual intervention when the screen comes back up. I use both. Possibly JD paid app automates the whole process.

CPU Profiling?

What do you guys use to control the CPU speed?
I've used setCPU in the past, it seems to work. SickSense ROM does come with one, and that also seems to work well. I'm curious what you guys use. Currently I'm using KingCobra ROM and he included the DualCore MOD which is supposed to make the second core work faster and thus improve performance.
I think I'm going to install setCPU and set it on On-Demand. Not entirely sure what the best settings are for speed and also for battery life. I am more concerned about battery life while at the same time my phone can't be sluggish. Also I've noticed a lot of battery savings tools do work, but they do so by taking away things I need. For an example, the awesome battery took that comes with SickSense works wonderfully but the default supersaver setting cuts off my data and bluetooth making the phone almost useless.

And it works! thank you for the .zip, I didn't know where to look for it.
See the thread in my sig around sunday night there will be an updated version (hopefully - work permitting) It will have a few new things that should help out this device. Like on the fly setting changes so it will edit the cpu when it comes online. It will work like a daemon.

I've installed it last night. My usual morning lag that I experience wasn't there so I believe there is some merit to what this mod is supposed to provide. I'll be tracking the battery life, as that's more important to me than a reboot once a day.
Yes I can also confirm that this app works. Even makes one of my slowest apps (amazon appstore) open much faster. Everything is a bit quicker.
My only concern is battery life, which I am going to be testing over the weekend. Loving the mod so far though.
I can verify this works well use to take close to a minut to load my xda ap lol. Not so any more. Also switching from app drawer to home screen, no lag. I used v6 supercharger for a while and i think that for now im just gonna use this. My phome is much more responsive than it use to be, especially when opening my settings menu. I will be paying attention to battery as well. Thanks for your work.
Edit. My cpu clock speed magically set it self to 1552. Dont ask me how that happened cuz i dont know. Now normally at this speed my phone would freeze. How do i know this? Cus its happened on more than one occasion. I dont overclock anymore because of it. I ran this app all day with no adverse effects. I cant say one way or another if this app works because i dont know when my phone was set to overclock. With the controversy surrounding this.... Im glad i didnt pay 1.50 for it or id feel like a really dumb***

https://plus.google.com/115049428938715274412/posts/GWr72W9zmY2
From his post:
"So to be clear... IMNSHO, the recent entropy pool fad is bull****. The only users of /dev/random are libcrypto (used for cryptographic operations like SSL connections, ssh key generation, and so on), wpa_supplicant/hostapd (to generate WEP/WPA keys while in AP mode), and the libraries that generate random partition IDs when you do an ext2/3/4 format. None of those 3 users are in the path of app execution, so feeding random from urandom does nothing except make random... well... less random
The only conceivable reason some devices may feel faster is because by constantly polling the PRNG, it keeps the device's I/O in constant use (which in turn, depending on device, will make the CPU stick to higher clock frequencies to keep up and/or ramp up the IO scheduler)."
Yes it's bullish**. The whole explanation for this mod doesn't make sense and I just can't figure out how this would help at all. As RC said excellently, it would simply prevent I/O functions to go to sleep and keep your CPU higher. TL;DR : Raise your CPU clocks, change your I/O scheduler and you'll get better performances.
One more thing... I dont know when my phone was set to overclock but here are some interesting screen shots for you.
This is a 1500Mah stock battery. The original batter. I got with the phone over a year ago btw.
Something to cbew on i think. My phone has never run this well. Wtf?

Isn't faster performance accomplished by keeping the I/O constantly running and the CPU at higher clock speed than it would otherwise be?

I've been using this mod for a little over a week. While RC might be right about what this mod really is doing, my phone hasn't been snappier. As for battery life, I've lost about 10% more battery a day using this. I've got the Anker 2800mWh battery, and at the end of the day I'm usually sitting around 55-60% battery remaining. On hard use days I'd be around 30% battery remaining. Overall I'm still getting a full days use out of the phone.
If someone could suggest what scheduler I should use (instead of this mod) then I'd gladly try RC's suggestion and see if he is right as well.
