Ok I used bubby's simple one click root I got s-off but my phone didn't take the root any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
check in your app folder if you have super user you are in fact rooted....if for some reason it was not installed go into a terminal emulator and type in "su" and you should get a superuser request and that would confirm you are rooted if it works...
Do you have clockwork recovery?

If you have s-Off then you can try re-flashing the rooted stock PD98IMG.zip from bubby's package. It's extracted into a temp dir on your computer when you run bubbys tool.
I'd guess it gets deleted once you close bubbys tool, as its only extracted temporarily for use by the tool, so you may have to start up the tool to get it to extract it, then find it before closing the tool again.
Once you find that PD98IMG.zip, put it on your SD card and reflash it that way.
Yeah I have superuser but it fc's on me and I have clockwork it's got me stumped maybe I'll try and reroot it again

If you're S-OFF and you've got clockwork, then you're pretty much as rooted as you need to be. Just install a custom ROM of your choice through clockwork. Any of the popular ones from the DEV thread should be properly configured for su, etc.

This problem has been encountered before, I believe. I forget the specifics of the fix, I think it's in bubbys thread somewhere, but it has to do with clearing data/cache for the superuser app and/or redownloading superuser from the market.
Check the thread for the exact details. May even be in the FAQ for bubbys tool (linked in post #1 of that thread).

i want to know if you know ... i upgraded to 4.0.3 by flashing the entire rom and kernal at the same time with Heimdall!
Heimdall has terrible support now(mac user here ) Anyway my phone never boots when i try to root it ... i tried the oneclick root - the doomlord ZergRush which i think is only for 2.3.6 roms - trying to get cwm on root permission - and flashing Kernals stops my phone booting - and one click methods just don't do anything when they complete!
So i tried ALL rooting methods and none work!
Should i go back to 2.3.6 and try doing it again from there?
Then i can upgrade once i'm rooted?
Or do i upgrade and then root again?
i'm so confused ....
At least i got my WIFI back by clearing out my cashe (but now with this i think i just give up since my phone works and battery is good)
But can i flash a complete 2.3.6 rom all in one go ?
Then what do i do from there?
THanks
Could you please help me understand how to get back the root access on my skyrocket? I rooted my phone
DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip when running on Gingerbread.
Now I upgraded to ICS from Samsung Support Website using Samsung Kies Software.
I can see Super User in my phone, but the the info tab shows su binary not found.. and the apps that need root access is not working like Titanium Backup and Busy Box Installer.

I do not have CWM in my phone, I had just rooted my phone which was on Gingerbread, installed Titanium Backup Pro and used that to freeze the tetheringManager process, so that I can use my phone as a Wireless hotspot.
but after I upgraded to ICS yesterday night using kies, I think I lost the root access, none of the apps that require root access seems to work
Follow this thread to install cwm and then flash updated superuser zip and su binary
Edit: flash touch recovery. Search and u will find it

That's what it be. And id suggest twrp. I have a twrp tar you can flash with Odin to get you started if you like.
Its not the newest twrp release but it'll work. You can flash newest one after you root:thumbup:

1st thing flash cwm touch
Here's the link to 5.8.1.3 which I have. Supposedly it isn't recognized within rom manager but doing backups in rom manager is problematic so u are better off actually going into the cwm recovery.

Here's the link to an updated version with that inconvenience corrected...either will be fine

you need odin to flash cwm, dont use rom manager as it is sometimes problematic.
go to my sticky in my sig, goto the download section, under recoveries there is a tutorial on using odin and all the links for the downloads that you will need like odin and touch cwm, when cwm is installed just flash the su binary that you have, if you dont have su, there is also a link in the sticky to download it from
edit:just reread your post, did you say that you previously(b4 update) did not have cwm installed and had root, if so which method did u use to get root

So ODIN is a software that I have to instal on my PC and then I have to use ODIN to install CWM to my phone, and after doing that I should use CWM to install SU to my phone? Is that a Correct understanding?

Before I install cwm and install the new super user file should I be uninstall the existing superuser from my phone? From Settings > Applications >Superuser?
Hey fellow XDA members
I am having issues installing busybox in order to do a sim unlock.
Yes phone is rooted, superSU installed via recovery.
I have tried regualr and smart installs of busybox, neither is successful. What am i missing?

Ya Viper is good rom if you want the tweaks it can do but if you looking for a less tricked out one then Blockout is a good rom and still come with useful stuff.
So I flashed CM 11 and I am really enjoying this ROM. When initially setting up I mistakenly let Google restore my apps. I was not aware that SU was already built into CM 11, so I ended with SuperSU and SU installed at the same time. A few of my rooted apps were allowed root access, but now every time a new app ask for SU permission it is denied.I have deleted SuperSu and rootchecker says I have root.
Does anybody have a suggestion?

Not that I know of. I've been using SuperSu all the time. I prefer it because:
I paid for it, so I want to get my money's worth!
Chainfire seems to always be on top of the latest fixes, including how Lollipop may have to require custom kernels, which means unlocked bootloaders. Uh oh.
