Here is a little contribution to HTC Desire community,
A little cooking experiment :
As I am a French User, I started with latest and fastest MIUI ROM avaiable on MIUI FRANCE forums;
I Replaced all framework packages with latest multilang packages I found here and there,
The result is a rom with these specification :
-Android 2.3.7 : Very fast
-MIUI with latest avaiable packages,
-Multiple themes ( MIUI V4-default- and ICS Theme included)
-Multilang : (English default language, easy to change if language not autodetected after carrier)
arabic - brazilian - czech - danish - dutch - english - french - german - greek - hebrew - hungarian - italian - korean - persian - polish - portugese - russian - slovak - slovenian - spanish - thai - turkish - vietnamese
-4 Way Reboot
-aroma installer, in english now with possibility to personnalize install ( App2sd, app2sd+, data2ext and others settings)
-Nice meteo and news app included
Very stable for two days rocks stable for me!
Hope to have feedback very soon.
Flashed on my stock Hboot, so stay with that configuration please...
Here is the V1 download link!
http://www.multiupload.nl/WS4GPC17Z7
Here is the V2 Download Link!
http://www.multiupload.nl/KC4UVU16FL
To do list:
- finding why I need to put a third app to have sdcard mount as mass storage....
Looks great but screenies? You should add d2ext too. Great start
P.S. My language in MIUI? Omg
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
Good to see some new releases
Good luck and good work!
D2EXT is included also!
V2 is on the way
Now english is default
Now MUI theme V4 is Default
AROMA Installer in English
TO DO List :
Trying to find out why I need a third app for USB mass storage to work.
No offence intended, but don't you think that we have more than enough GB Roms for our Desire? Just go through the fora, you have a plethora of Roms customized in all ways imaginable. Yet, we still haven't got one single perfectly stable ICS or JB rom.
Just saying
@OP: can you upload some screenshots?

For this question, GB roms are way easier to make/mod than ics/jb (for starters), so the creator won't have to worry about not booting a lot (wasted a lot of my times modding ICS stuffs, too and they don't work.)
And please correct those grammar errors :silly:

We do not have up to date 2.3.7 rom with latest MIUI framework and multilanguage, or point me to the link, because I only use MIUI on my phones since the day I discovered it...
JellyBean on HTC Desire, in my mind it's a proof of concept, all the ROMS on ICS/JB are so slowww....

it's never enough and GB base is much much more stable and usable than ICS or JB
Hi need some info, what about hboot? Or any info about data2sd etc as we know stock storage is very low, any scripts are included? Int2sd etc? And it will be nice to get little install info and screens
/Sent from HTC Desire/
V2 is done and will make a better post.... with screens..
sorry it's a long time since I have post something here ( was cooker for omnia and Acer s200 ...winmobile all)
Was so happy to release, but this clearly was an alpha.
too much french inside ^^
Now V2 will be more english as base, and 24 languages.
Here in france the roms autodetect seems provider correctly and language is automatically set (don't really know how is it done, but as soon as I enter my pin code, it autodetects carrier location and switch automatically in french)
Hope you will like it, and hope it will be stable enough for everyday use of every MIUI lovers here!

Aroma installer, multiple choice APP2SD,APP2SD+, and D2EXT, you must choose personnalized install!
The rom check for space thanks to aroma, it's for stock HBOOT only because I can't test on another.
My desire is near of death, constant random reboots when use data... or when charging and using it....

Okay, that exact description is probably not met by any rom other than yours. I respect your work, I just thought that developing Android 4.x (with MIUI or anything else on top) for our Desires could be more interesting since GB is already stabilized and "tamed" whereas ICS/JB are not.
Concerning slow ICS/JB builds, I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Scratch what I said earlier. Today I found a CM9.1 Rom for the HTC Desire on a spanish forum; it is ROCK solid, as stable as a GB rom. On XDA itself, there are a few devs working on JB for the Desire with great success; they managed to get Project Butter up and running, which is quite a feat. But there are still some stability issues with a2sd scripts and the camera.
Anyway, good luck with your work.
I gave V1 a go this morning, felt really smooth. Had to swap back to the daily driver for work, looking forward to V2.

Trolling is not allowed on XDA. Consider this a warning.
Well so far this rom seem very snappy for some reason i was swiping on different screens looking for the hero clock, I'm so use to only flashing hero roms from you. Either way this is a very good rom I will continue to use it throughout the day and give you feedback. Thanks
This rom is really nice and stable, but sadly Im a die hard Chromatic 4.1.1 fan, but keep up the good work I look forward to flashing the next versions of this rom and see what you have added to it.

sdext is mounted in /mnt/sd-ext, but I'll try to do something for the a2sdext!
Can't flash this one till after the weekend.
I'm having some recurring probs with all the 2.2's though. Seems they start off speedy and degrade over time. Using full FAT. Tried Swapper2 and that helped a bit, but the homescreen always lags no matter which launcher I use. I get random FC after a day or two of use and the USB mount works when it feels like it. Have to toggle from RA to get things moved most of the time. Also, no slider to answer calls.
I'll prolly give this a go Monday. I'll be on the water most of the weekend, so I'm rockin' SuperD for the battery life.
theres a problem with answering calls no slider and the green call button doesnt work when trying to answer a call. ive experienced this on Cm6 rc1 and rc2 and i havent found a fix for it but other than that nice rom!
really diggin the wallpaper tho!

Read this post thoroughly, in its entirity. Don't ask for support on something that's been covered in this post!
VillainROM is sponsored by Hyperbees, LTD - publishers of SpeedX, The Impossible Level Game and more!
Let's get on with it, shall we?
Well, it's been a long time coming, and in typical VillainROM fashion, we hope it's been worth the wait.
Many of you will know our work from the HTC Hero community; work which started just under a year ago and grew into a team of developers, themers and systems administrators working to produce THE most popular ROMs on the Hero.
Some of us recently attended the HTC press event in London, where we were asked by many, many disgruntled Desire users when we were going to release some ROMs for the device. The good news is, today is the day. For anyone that's been waiting for our ROMs, I apologise for the wait.
So... why the delay?
Yes, you guessed it... midgets. I'm not talking about the little sweets, either... I'm talking about the little fellas. It's nothing at all to do with the fact that I have been lazy, despite having dozens of angry Desire owners (including many of our team) hassling me day in, day out. No, it's not that at all; it's the midgets.
I won't pretend I don't feel guilty about it, though. I'm as guilty as Alan Carr is gay. And that's pretty guilty.
Many of our team own the HTC Desire, so expect to see several of our ROMs appearing on this forum in the future. It's an exciting time to be a Desire owner, with so many talented developers around working on it... not to mention the upcoming release of the Desire HD, and the HTC kernel sources.
So that you're kept in the loop, so to speak, this is one of a series of ROMs for the HTC Desire that will be released over the coming fortnight (ideally). In no particular order, the other ROMs that we'll be releasing in the near future are:
- SuperVillain 1.0.0 (Based on VR 1.0.0 with Rosie, widgets and a lot of other Sense UI stripped out for speed. This will come in 2 versions... LP and ADW).
- FroydVillain 1.0.0 (A pure, AOSP build. Immensely fast, but currently quite buggy. This will be sorted prior to release)
- VillainROM HD (I'm working on a stripped down version of this ROM that installs without the need to store half the system folder on your SD EXT partition. This isn't too far away from release now).
Anyway, I've rambled enough. Many of you haven't read this far, and are already thinking 'TL : DR'. I have no doubt about this. I don't care though. That being said, I will 'get to the point' right about now.
Welcome to VillainROM 1.0.0
VillainROM is the name given to our ROMs based entirely on the manufacturers latest update, similarly to the Modaco Custom Roms. We've tried to keep it as standard as possible, adding only a few extra, essential features here and there, with our own, typical modifications. Please don't expect this to be groundbreaking, but if you're after a stable, close to stock, heavily supported ROM, then VillainROM is the right choice for you. As with all of the ROMs on offer from Team Villain, updates will be regular and meaningful.
- HTC Sense UI ROM (based on build 2.14.207.1)
- Apps2SD+
- De-odexed & Zip aligned
- OpenVPN Support
- Wifi N Support
- EXT 3 & 4 Support
- CIF Support
- CFQ Support
- Latest Superuser & Busybox
- VR Wallpapers
- UV Kernel - thanks, Neophyte
- System R/W access - overlay method
- Reboot in power menu
- Shiny, VillainROM boot animation (credits go to Alex from the VillainROM forum)
- Huge APN list - thanks, Cyanogen
- Supports major European languages
- PNG Optimised
See post #2 for Changelog
Installation Guide
1. Flash the latest radio image, if you don't have it already
2. Full Wipe
3. Flash the ROM

It was found to be the cause of battery drainage plus its not rly living up to the Wifi N speeds, to the extent of being more of a flaw than anything else
It is just a sneek peek of upcoming ICS. Not intended for daily use.
What is currently working:
Phone
Sound
Sensors
Lights
Wifi
Bluetooth
USB mass storage
HW keyboard (ALT lock too)
Keyboard backlight
HW/SW keyboard toggling (thx Hashcode!)
OpenGL (3D)
Multitouch (more points + multitouch fixed)
Keyboard layout switching
Fixed PIN unlock (thx Nadlabak!)
Camera support (thx Rondoval!)
What is not working:
Video recording
Video HW decoding
Probably still a lot of minor issues
Other known issues:
ADB debugging shouldn't be disabled

when i was testing the defy 4.0 port. i have the same issue on usb connection. and i found that when usb connect, nothing were written to /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file.
normally, /dev/block/vold/179:0 should be written to there.
but more instersting is that after i use dual sd mount widget. even i uninstall it(not reboot), my usb can work normally. but after reboot, it buggy again.

european kernel seems to have some check on system version or bl version. as some guys said in other thread. flashing only euro kerenl/devtree will not boot at all. so maybe ch kernel is another possible choice.

Nice Work
Very good to see that you guys are working on this new Android to Milestone 2, this make me don´t want to trade my cellphone!
I´d like to thank you for your great work, and as soon as this version is working i will try!
looks promise. thanks you,tezet!
It looks sooo beautiful! I am awaiting it eagerly!!!
great work guys.....looking forward for this....
Great!!
but my razr might come next week.....
I won't sell my ms2 anyway, after move to razr I can be a tester on new roms and not to fear many things don't work as I got another phone to use
Sent from my Milestone 2 using XDA app
Good job!!
But since I flashed my phone to the official GB, it seems that I must wait for a while.
Fortunately, I like the new blur, though the ram usage is much higher than CM7...
I will keep waiting for the stable version!
Thanks for your great work
Looks amazing tezet! when i got my MS2 at the start of the year i never would have thought some of the stuff that has been done with CM on the MS2 could have been done.
A great dev team has made this possible!
this is great news! i can't wait to test this! thanks a lot for making this possible guys.

It has nothing to do with Milestone 2. It's the kernel from one of Defy's GB roms.
I've managed to get keyboard working apart from 'B', which really puzzles me. Interestingly ALT lock is now working This is due to new, very flexible keyboard handling introduced in honeycomb.
There seems to be bug in keyboard lid detection, the logic was inverted.
Thank you for your awsome work and looking forward to other builds.

european kernel seems to have some check on system version or bl version. as some guys said in other thread. flashing only euro kerenl/devtree will not boot at all. so maybe ch kernel is another possible choice.
edit: just heard some news from defy section, they seems to use gb kernel in future 4.0

I also thought of that. I started playing with CH GB kernel (actually I just boot up out of it). For those stuck with UK GB we can just prepare builds based on this kernel (at least I think so .

Hi,
What is the Best ROM for hebrew support?
CM7 includes it, some of Sense 3.5 ROMs include it (RunnyDroid, I believe). Any non-MIUI ROM will include it once you run Hebrew patch script by iAndroid guys. MIUI needs its own patch script, which will also work fine. I think the answer is - any ROM.
This should help you:

Using Google to search for information will help you further.
What about the virtues unity?
I saw video about it and seems to be very nice.

I really think I wrote more than enough.
HI!
i think it would be very usefull to have a list of roms that really work on desire s!!!
Like i ve tested saga3d 5.1 rom and fallout evolution 5 rom (both work 100% on my phone) i want u all to tell me which other roms in any android version work 100%!
AND REALLY WORKS MEANS EVERYTHING WORKS
all work on our phone, to what degree you would have too read the threads for each Rom. Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699450
Then look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho.../RECOVERY/ROOT/GUIDES/HBOOT/RADIOS/TWEAKS etc

I think it would be helpful for people new to flashing custom roms, why don't you compile it?

'Really work'?
Why not try out every rom and and give useful feedback(not "**** this rom doesnt work or this rom EFG is crap i am going stick with rom ABC).
If u just take some time to read a few pages after the rom was release u can know what works and what not(unless of course some ppl decide to post rubbish and useless comment in development section) which just doesn't help the dev or other ppl.

Define 'really work' !!! If it boots, it works ? Or do you want <insert feature here> to absolutely work as it is a must-have ? Or if you want a stable ROM, just don't flash any ROM that says 'DEV' or 'NIGHTLY' or 'EXPERIMENTAL' and stick to released ROMs (atm it is only GingerBread-based ROMs)

+1
And you can find info on each ROM thread page in the dev section. Some teams even have a home page where they detail their current status.
Endymion / Reaper for Gingerbread roms or Ice DS / Miui v4 for ICS roms
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
These are ROMs I've tested and know work OK:
Gingerbread:
- Reaper V3
- Endymion (with Sense)
Ice Cream Sandwich:
- Fallout V4 (Sense 4A) <- in my opinion one of the best and most stable roms out there
- ICE_DS (Sense 3.6) <- Also a really really really good ROM, everything works in this one
Jelly Bean:
- Andromadus: The only major thing not working is the video camera, the rest works just fine.
I've used all of these at some point and they work perfectly fine as a day-to-day ROM with no unexpected reboots or major issues.
Ice Cold Sandwich runs at my DS nearly without any bugs. (the ones present are some related to AOKP, not android itself).
Tnx all but i am sure that there must be more roms for our Desire S
that work 100%.
Please share more

As was pointed out to you previously - why don't you do your own testing and compile your own list to share with the rest of XDA? Or simply read the threads for each ROM and then you will know quite simply if they work 100% or not.
why dont all users of desire s list their roms which they tested here for all new xda members to easily decide which rom to use/flash.
List roms that have fully working hardware(cam,wifi,bt,....), because we need this kind of list.Dont u agree?

Simply because most of us have tried all the roms and have made our own decisions on what we prefer because everyone is different. Personally I've come to the conclusion that I don't like roms that work 100% because I get bored with it too quick so I like to test half finished and half baked roms

I use fallout v 5.0 the best rom
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
You're best off with CM nightly.
Other than that I'd suggest Fallout Evolution or Reaper
Well my Rom Desire XS works 100%, I now just need to add a few tweaks like APM battery percentage, and quick settings.
