Desire s fully working roms - HTC Desire S

HI!
i think it would be very usefull to have a list of roms that really work on desire s!!!
Like i ve tested saga3d 5.1 rom and fallout evolution 5 rom (both work 100% on my phone) i want u all to tell me which other roms in any android version work 100%!
AND REALLY WORKS MEANS EVERYTHING WORKS

all work on our phone, to what degree you would have too read the threads for each Rom. Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699450
Then look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho.../RECOVERY/ROOT/GUIDES/HBOOT/RADIOS/TWEAKS etc

'Really work'?
Why not try out every rom and and give useful feedback(not "**** this rom doesnt work or this rom EFG is crap i am going stick with rom ABC).
If u just take some time to read a few pages after the rom was release u can know what works and what not(unless of course some ppl decide to post rubbish and useless comment in development section) which just doesn't help the dev or other ppl.

Define 'really work' !!! If it boots, it works ? Or do you want <insert feature here> to absolutely work as it is a must-have ? Or if you want a stable ROM, just don't flash any ROM that says 'DEV' or 'NIGHTLY' or 'EXPERIMENTAL' and stick to released ROMs (atm it is only GingerBread-based ROMs)

Endymion / Reaper for Gingerbread roms or Ice DS / Miui v4 for ICS roms
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

These are ROMs I've tested and know work OK:
Gingerbread:
- Reaper V3
- Endymion (with Sense)
Ice Cream Sandwich:
- Fallout V4 (Sense 4A) <- in my opinion one of the best and most stable roms out there
- ICE_DS (Sense 3.6) <- Also a really really really good ROM, everything works in this one
Jelly Bean:
- Andromadus: The only major thing not working is the video camera, the rest works just fine.
I've used all of these at some point and they work perfectly fine as a day-to-day ROM with no unexpected reboots or major issues.

Ice Cold Sandwich runs at my DS nearly without any bugs. (the ones present are some related to AOKP, not android itself).

Tnx all but i am sure that there must be more roms for our Desire S
that work 100%.
Please share more

As was pointed out to you previously - why don't you do your own testing and compile your own list to share with the rest of XDA? Or simply read the threads for each ROM and then you will know quite simply if they work 100% or not.

why dont all users of desire s list their roms which they tested here for all new xda members to easily decide which rom to use/flash.
List roms that have fully working hardware(cam,wifi,bt,....), because we need this kind of list.Dont u agree?

Simply because most of us have tried all the roms and have made our own decisions on what we prefer because everyone is different. Personally I've come to the conclusion that I don't like roms that work 100% because I get bored with it too quick so I like to test half finished and half baked roms

I use fallout v 5.0 the best rom
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2

You're best off with CM nightly.
Other than that I'd suggest Fallout Evolution or Reaper

Well my Rom Desire XS works 100%, I now just need to add a few tweaks like APM battery percentage, and quick settings.

[Q] removing the root and all the mods on a second hand htc desire s

Hi, i bought this phone on second hand and it came with the cianogen mod 9, and its full of bugs , and i need to send and receive mms, one thing i cant do with this rom...
How can i put the phone like it came out of the box? With the oficial htc rom, or a new one that doesnt have bugs and is able to send mms...
I appreciate the help! a link to a tutorial or something like that would be great!
I think your best bet would be installing endymion. A fast and stable custom ROM. If your comfortable with returning your phone to stock then that's fine but since the phone is already rooted it would be easier and probably safer to install a custom ROM
Endymion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310845
Sent from my Desire S using Tapatalk 2
sounds like a good idea, that rom is the most stable out there with sense 3.5?
Can you please give me a link for flashing roms on this phone, i did it a long time ago on a galaxy 550 i had but i dont remember most of it... One more thing, will the phone run the 2 roms multibooting like a pc or will the flashing of this rom erase the cyanogen one?
Thanks!
No, the phone will not run 2 ROM's.
If you require a backup of your current ROM, go into recovery & make a nandroid backup of your current ROM.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to erase system , boot, data, cache, dalvik cache partitions before installing a new ROM (Endymion in your case).
Refer the INDEX thread for all your querries regarding Root, Installing new ROM , or Return to stock Guides !
While I haven't been on Sense in a while, I am confident Endymion is the most stable. It's the only Gingerbread ROM managing to stay on top of the development section. The developer has put in a lot of work into this ROM.
For the rest Tapur007 is pretty much correct. All your answers can be found here:

Luckily for you the hard part has already been done. All you need to do is boot into recovery, make a backup, wipe and install the ROM.
And to backup things like the apps what do you recommend? Something like titanium backup?

Titanium Backup is your bet for backup of applications and their data. Although you need to be careful restoring across different ROMs.
You could try the latest ICS ROM called Fallout (what I consider to be the Endymion replacement as its made by the same guy) this is reaching a level of performance and stability.

but with that rom i wouldnt be able to send mms right?
I've alredy flashed the endymion rom, it was easier than i tough, using the rom manager, it praticaly does everything for us, including wiping data and installing (sorry for the entusiasm but i tough it would be harder so i was pretty happy )

yep, thanks for the help everyone any recomendations on roms to use?
If you're already on endymion, give ICS a try. So fallout or virtuous saga. Or if you don't like sense try out reaper for a stable and fast gingerbread experience or AOKP for an ICS approach.
There will never be one answer to the best ROM. It's up to you to find out which one fits your standards

Sense 2.1 ROMs: none (time to move on from the 80s...)
Sense 3.0 ROMs: none (time to move on the 90s...)
Sense 3.5 ROMs: Endymion 3.5 (great support! great dev!)
Sense 3.6 ROMs: none (why use an inferior ICS version when clearly Sense 4.0 is just around the horizon...)
Sense 4.0 ROMs: lots to choose from (most still have minor bugs that needs ironing out, but Sense 4 will give you the HTC One experience...)
Again it goes to show that HTC only cares on tempting you to buy a new phone (with new software) rather than providing proper support for old phones... Great thanks for the devs who keep old phones alive that htc has left to die...
non-sense Gingerbread: Oxygen port (some issue with camera on some newer phones) or CM7 (latest CM7 RC3?)
non-sense ICS: CM9 latest alpha (a clear upgrade, only minor glitches now), AOKP port etc.
These ROMs are the way Android should have been released (like the Nexus S / GalaxyNexus) without HTC butchering it up with Sense.

[Q] Is there any 100% stable Rom available for Desire S?

Is there any 100% stable rom available for Desire S? Ive been searching for it and found so many out there but everyone is complaining about every rom out there, complaining about wifi or camera or restarting issues are these roms meant to be unstable or they are supposed to be like stock one? can anyone please tell or guide regarding ICS or Jelly Bean rom i can get without getting in trouble as ive never ported my phone before, thanks!
There is nothing in the whole wide world nobody is complaining about.
To topic: there are roms that are way better than stock. Most people having issues don't know what they are doing.
I've used most roms and most stable 3 are cm7 ,virtuous unity and fallout
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Fully stable ROMs that I've used and liked are:
Gingerbread (Android 2.3):
Endymion
Reaper
Cyanogenmod 7
Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)
ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!)
Fallout (not 100%, missing wifi tethering, but every single other thing works).
Hope this helps!
you mentioned ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!) can you send me the link from where i can get the guide and download it? I've stock 2.3.5 on my Desire S with Sense 3.0, thanks!

try it yourself.
Don't let other ppl's preference determine what suites you, if I ever did that then i would be stucked at rom A, and i wouldnt even bother to try rom B.
Even though i read that there were many issue with rom C i still tried it out, and the issues they mention didn't appear in my phone. So my current rom is now rom D.
So then rom B had an update, so i back-up my current rom then restore rom B then updated it. I didnt like it so i went on to try rom E which was one of the lattest developement.
Take ur time to try it all, because once u tried everything u will get bored as i am now and just waiting for the lastest update to come.

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to changing ROMs.
I know that CyanogenMod 7 comes with integrated OpenVPN and WiFi tethering if I recall correctly. I consider these two features as quite desirable. I assume that Endymion and Reaper have that too as they are based on CM7, right? Apparently, Reaper is not based on the stable CM 7.2 release but then, on the other hand, it has been advocated as very stable. So, why has the developer then promised a final release?
I'm scared of losing my apps and data when changing ROMs. What ways do you guys use to ensure that your can restore everything to working order after you've flashed your new ROM?

Any recommendable TB beginners guides out there?
yes, perfectly good enough. You just won't have the batch function. But it's easy to use and has a simple ui. I will say this though, if your going to be flashing roms regularly then it is more than worth paying for the full app, I paid for tb and Rom manager on the day I unlocked my bootloader, and haven't once thought that maybe I shouldn't have

Well, in that case, stock Rom suits best for u. IMHO, the loveliest part of Rom developing is that someone found issues and someone trying to fix it. That's what Android Dev really is. And I enjoy using all kinds of Roms developed by those awesome HTC Saga developers. Every Rom has some bugs, and it doesn't matter if they don't affect your daily use. I don't agree with that.
I had to disable the SIM-code, because every couple of days, my HTC crashed and Restarted.
(if you don't know that, you don't get call's because of the simcard-code).
That was the reason I bought a new smartphone (xperia U).
Since the HTC was in my desk-drawer, I began to experiment with rooting/changing ROM
Now I have fall-out for 2 weeks now, and my phone hasn't crashed 1 time.
So for me, custom ROMS are more stable than the stock one. (and faster, smoother, ...)
It just feels like a whole new phone.
Anybody knows witch ROM is the best for Battery Life ?
It should be ICS and Sense 4.0 ... At the Moment i have the "Project X" installed
Try ice ds...I am getting on an average close to four hours of screen time on a full charge...that's the max I have ever gotten on any Rom ics or gb...

[Q] Should I ... ?

Hello guys,
first of all, sorry about opening a new thread about this, but I cant reply in developer threads, since I dont have 10 posts, and Im not going to spam just to get it, so here we go:
- I am an android app developer
- I do test apps on this Desire S, just to have a look how they work on ICS
- this is my private phone as well
- I neither rooted a phone on my own, nor flashed a rom(except the official Desire S RUU thingie, but that is just pressing next etc)
- for me, stability > all, including speed, and battery life
- except the speed of the official ICS, I like the stock rom just how it is
Im getting tired of how slow the official ICS upgrade can be on my Desire S, tho I can live with it, but if I can have the same, or maybe even better stability, while gaining performance, why wouldn't I change? My question is: should I upgrade with a custom rom, given the previous infos about my preferences? I was looking 2 roms, which got me for the first:
- ICE DS
- Fallout Evolution
I would prefer Sense 3.6, so ICE DS sounds better, but I am open for Sense 4.0 as well.
So once more, what do you think, should I upgrade? Will the performance significantly increase? Will the stability remains the same(at least)? In case you say I should, which one of the previous roms would you recommend? Or any other rom? And what is the exact process, what I should do? Just few words will do, I can manage to look up guides/tutorials, just show me the path.
Thanks in advance, cheers
You may try Ice Cream Saga. As its currently the only rom as of now to be based on the official ics for the desire s, afaik.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
i got a ruu for the desire s from the htc dev center you just have to search there site for it but i ran it on an unmodified desire s that was on its original o2 rom and it worked so i have now got Android 4.0.4 and sense 3.6 and ive found it stable and more then fast enough for me but i dont do a lot of gaming. give it a try it might work and its official but i cant promise ya it will work for ya tho
Little misunderstanding there, I do use the stock ICS for Desire S, what I downloaded from HTCdev, the ruu one. So yea, my question was, is it worth to change for one of the custom roms, mentioned already, but I will provide links now, just to make sure this time:
- ICE DS ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567715 )
- Fallout Evolution ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679125 )
Once more, the question is: I use the RUU ICS upgrade from HTCdev already, so I have ICS already, but, is it worth to change to ICE DS or Fallout Evolution? Is it as stable as the stock rom, and is it faster? Thanks!
bump
I think the latest version of ice_ds is good, Fallout is very stable and quite fast, sabsa prime is faster, but possibly less stable, ice cream saga is based on the official ruu with only performance tweaks.
It's hard to say what would work best for you, I think you would have to try 2 or 3 and then decide. I do think it would be worth it, especially as having a custom recovery installed allows you to make complete backups of the current Rom, that can be restored if you try something different and don't like it.
---------- Post added at 10:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 PM ----------
Process:
Unlock bootloader,
Install custom recovery
Now you can backup, restore, flash custom Rom etc. in recovery.
(something optional worth considering: downgrading hboot to attain s-off, you'll see why that might make sense )
Guides and information about the above steps should be easily found in the forum.
Thanks, I guess it is testing time then

I Replaced all framework packages with latest multilang packages I found here and there,
The result is a rom with these specification :

-MIUI with latest avaiable packages,
-Multiple themes ( MIUI V4-default- and ICS Theme included)
-Multilang : (English default language, easy to change if language not autodetected after carrier)
arabic - brazilian - czech - danish - dutch - english - french - german - greek - hebrew - hungarian - italian - korean - persian - polish - portugese - russian - slovak - slovenian - spanish - thai - turkish - vietnamese
-4 Way Reboot
-aroma installer, in english now with possibility to personnalize install ( App2sd, app2sd+, data2ext and others settings)
-Nice meteo and news app included
Very stable for two days rocks stable for me!
Hope to have feedback very soon.
Flashed on my stock Hboot, so stay with that configuration please...

For this question, GB roms are way easier to make/mod than ics/jb (for starters), so the creator won't have to worry about not booting a lot (wasted a lot of my times modding ICS stuffs, too and they don't work.)

Okay, that exact description is probably not met by any rom other than yours. I respect your work, I just thought that developing Android 4.x (with MIUI or anything else on top) for our Desires could be more interesting since GB is already stabilized and "tamed" whereas ICS/JB are not.
Concerning slow ICS/JB builds, I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Scratch what I said earlier. Today I found a CM9.1 Rom for the HTC Desire on a spanish forum; it is ROCK solid, as stable as a GB rom. On XDA itself, there are a few devs working on JB for the Desire with great success; they managed to get Project Butter up and running, which is quite a feat. But there are still some stability issues with a2sd scripts and the camera.
Anyway, good luck with your work.
I gave V1 a go this morning, felt really smooth. Had to swap back to the daily driver for work, looking forward to V2.

THX! I will try to port to HTC J Z321E, but I want to know the kernel can use 4.1.1 (3.4.10) ?
Great! Can anyone extract the radio and make a flashable zip?
Yes I was also curious whether a 3.4.1.0 kernel will work. ShowP had an excellent kernel that works for One S sense jelly bean 4.1.1 anyone try using it here?

You need a 4.2.2 Sense kernel. Anything else won't work without modifications.

I was using the radio, adsp, wcnss, and rcdata on cm10.2 for few days. I found my 3g much less reliable than on 1.13 or 1.15. Anyone else tested?
I can upload it this weekend if no one does beforr
Maybe you already knew, I find Mega downloader is much faster than downloading from Mega site.

Yes, other ROMs apart from Maximus may not work though.

Ok. Maximus is cool but i went back to beanstalk. should i try it or rather not
Just to thank you...
I pressed "Thanks" button. But who would say it's enough for someone who gave my One S a second life ?
About a week ago, I was pretty sure we'll get stuck on JB 4.1 with that good old Sense 4. That was good for me. I liked the phone for what it is. I liked stock ROM, even if the dark AOSP look and feel would have better suited my theme, but at least, everything worked fine. Our device has great battery life, makes marvellous pictures, brings a good sound for calls. I once was a flashoholic, but that was before. Always unlocking, modding, installing new things, with those bugs and missing functions... but I grew up since that time. I can't afford having an half working device anymore, so I calmed down.
I was stuck in the idea what I had was enough. Especially when I saw those useless threads about Sense 5 upgrade, which would come, then not, and recome, but in fact not... Boring and pathetic. And you brought another light of hope. YOU had that leak... You had the Grail. You gave it to us, Maximus HD is a great ROM, I've tried it for a day before you release the dump. It was night and day comparing Sense 4.I feel my phone is complete now. But I like vanilla flavour, so I've build a stock ROM for to fit my needs. You gave us another great gift.
Just a last time, thank you.
I did not get one thing. is this a leak of original hos rom to come or port from a different device?
It's a rom fully fonctionnal, but I think HTC will never release it, it's only for us flashmaniacs
But I wonder why the hell no one is using this 100% working rom as base, to bring us sense 5 with some tweaks ?

Because of the firmware update you have to do that's why us devs are trying to fix up our ports we have one bug left and it would be the equivalent of labs Rom

OK thanks, that mean with this new firmware some devs tools or other things about developping aren't good for now. Anyway, if everything has been resized and ported to One S, that's a good news
There always tends to be small bugs with the ports... Major ones tend to get fixed... But small ones overlooked or persist for a while. For example I could never get the htc media link to work from the ports (although maybe newer updates could fix that). And some may find a benefit in the firmware update too. But to each their own. Its just good to see dev still working on our One S... Im just waiting for custom kernels to get a bit better on either ports or this one... Always love what ShowP's kernel based Mpdecision does to battery life.

Thanks but what I ask is if this rom is orginally developed for HOS or is it a port made by some other devs. I had a glimpse from your post that it is coming from HTC but just want to make sure it is because all the other sense 5 roms derives from evita afaik.
