In a really big trouble (Need help with returning to stock ROM) - HTC Sensation

So... I got excited about flashing my HTC sensation. I had done it before with ZTE blade and it wasn't that hard.
Long story short... I flashed the ROM, all went succesfully, but now I'm stuck in a bootloop. I can restart to clockwork recovery though. So I'm hoping it's still possible to get back to stock ROM. In that I need your help. I need to get information about which stock ROM to download, and how to flash it. I can't get to home screen to use USB sharing. Neither does Clockwork recovery usb sharing work.
Im stuck with putting the memory card to my other phone, putting the needed files on the memory card and then switching the memory card back to my HTC.
I've searched for hours and hours in google for help, but haven't found anything to match my situation. I have no idea what to do.
I've tried formatting system, wiping system and cache and then running CM10, bootloop. Formatted system, cache etc and flashed CM9, bootloop.
I have no idea what to do.
PLEASE HELP!

Did you flash firmware?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app

Are you sure your s off? Otherwise enable smartflash within 4ext.

So my HBOOT version is 1.27.0.0
And i did the Token ID thing, wasn't that putting it to S-off?
How to check if my firmware is updated? I think I did it but I'm not sure. Tell me the things you need to know.

If you were able to find your HBOOT version you should also be able to see whether you're s-off or s-on, copy down all the information that appears when you boot into bootloader and post it here.
You need 3.33 firmware from here. Read well before flashing.
Learnings for the future, always nandroid backup before wiping!

Ok so in order to flash a ROM you either need to be s-off or get 4EXT recovery and enable smart-flash.
Again, you need the correct firmware so please make sure you get what you need from the link in my first reply.

As you are S-ON and HTCDEV Unlocked, you need to flash the 4EXT Recovery, enable smartflash in the settings and flash the rom. Then you will be fine! Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861

So, it seems that the phone is bricked? Is there no way to bring it back? :C
I've got S-on, no backup and my usb doesnt recognize the phone when I'm in bootloader mode. And I can't get to home screen because of bootloop. 4ex thing needs usb and so does every other thing seem to need? Am I completely ****ed?
Argh, I knew I shouldnt have touched these things :C

You are far from bricked. You need to get into recovery and mount usb storage. You can probably do it in clockworkmod but I've never used it so I don't know, if you're having trouble get 4ext recovery (since you do have a way of getting stuff onto your sd as you said in your first post), and you can toggle usb storage from there.

I understood from the 4ext recovery that you need to get usb connection working, without it, there's pretty much nothing to do. I can only get things to my sd card with my other phone, but since i'm s-on, i can't flash it from cwm. At least that's what I've understood. I'm starting to get annoyed. I really don't have money for another phone, and I know that I was really stupid to even try flashing.
If there is a way still, I'm gonna try it, but I can't establish usb connection. When I connect my phone to usb in CWM, it says drivers couldn't be installed.

The thing is, I can't get an usb connection to my phone AT ALL. And I'm stuck in a bootloop and I'm S-ON without a backup. So only thing I do have is unlocked phone and i can boot to fastboot and can get to CWM recovery. Still, I've understood that it ain't enough. I need an usb connection with my phone to my PC. Which for the life of mine I can't get to work.
Any ideas are appreciated. I'm getting desperate :C

You can still flash 4ext via fastboot. Go to this thread and some way down the OP look for the line "there's a direct download for a version you can flash via fastboot".
Are you familiar with adb? You need to download the recovery.img using the link above and flash it via adb. Read this.

If you are in fastboot and connect your cable, does it read "fastboot USB"? You can flash 4ext from fastboot!
Did you follow the steps from the guide I linked before? You are already unlocked, install the 4ext recovery, enable "smartflash" in settings and flash the Rom you have chosen.

Ok so when you first boot into bootloader you should have:
HBOOT
<VOL UP> to previous item etc. etc.
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
Then by selecting FASTBOOT you should be able to connect your usb cable and it will change to FASTBOOT USB. If not you need to be sure you have the correct drivers properly installed on your PC.

I'm getting real tired, have to go to sleep, but on a quick glance it seemed that with fastboot and adb, you need to have somekind of connection with the pc, right? You can't push commands to your phone without a connection? And I can't get to usb-debugging. I can only use CWM, and it doesn't help.
I'm starting to loose hope, but I'll try to check those threads tomorrow, maybe tomorrow I can save my phone, maybe not.
But thanks alot guys, a really REALLY friendly community. I know it ain't fun trying to help people with their problems, but I appreciate what you're trying to do

Yep, you need to be connected to your PC via USB, with drivers installed (I used this) and FASTBOOT selected in bootloader, at which point it SHOULD say FASTBOOT USB.
At this point you can use fastboot commands to flash the recovery.img I previously linked you to, then you will have 4ext recovery and you will be able to set up smart flash to allow you to flash whilst s-on. Only once you get to that stage can you start thinking about flashing firmware and custom ROMS.
And don't lose hope, plenty of phones have been resurrected from far worse conditions. Just requires some patience and careful reading. Don't do anything until you make sure you understand what it is you're about to do.

From fastboot, along your usb cable connected and htc drivers/adb are installed, you use the fastboot command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" that's how you can push the recovery on your device. (actually you should have just clicked on the link you quoted and would have found the answer.)

[Q] Is my device bricked or what?

I know there are probably other threads that can help me but I'm really desperate here. I just got my Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) a few days ago and decided to root it and install a custom ROM. This is my first Android device so I followed a newb guide specifically for the Sensation 4G. However, I think I accidentally missed the step describing how to S-Off and I ended up trying to install Cyanogen Mod 9. It installed ok but I got stuck at the boot screen. From there, I tried restoring to a backup I made before installing Cyanogen but it didn't work. Now I'm stuck at the HTC logo. Can anyone help me out? Here are some more details about my device:

I think my firmware is 3.32 and the Android version was 4.0.3 although I guess there's nothing on it now.
EDIT: The latest guide I followed shows how to install/flash the stock ICS firmware but I couldn't update the firmware. It says "Parsing .zip" but doesn't go further than that.

I don't have 4ext recovery installed, only CWM. Is there a way to install it even though I can't boot into the phone?
Yeah, just have to flash another recovery (4ext) through fastboot.
If you look around the development section, you'd probably find a guide how to do it, if not PM me, and I'll give you the steps.
Have a look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 Asskicker's guide, how to flash roms with S-ON. If you don't want to flash the 4ext recovery (I highly recommend to install it!) then you can do Step "EXTRA 1" from that guide and install "boot.img" from the downloaded rom. You find it in the zip file, in the kernel folder. But read the guide, there are plenty of very useful info in it! And to answer your question, No! Your phone is not bricked!

I have a bunch of ROMS that I've tried and they're all on my desktop. Only two of them have a kernels folder, so I guess the other two are using a stock kernel and I can't use them, right? I'll try following that thread you linked me to, hopefully it'll work this time.
EDIT: It worked! Thank you so much! Now if I wanted to install Cyanogen Mod 9 for example, which doesn't have that kernels folder, I would need to S-OFF first right?
If you want to install ROM's without being S-OFF I'm pretty sure you need 4EXT.
And for future reference to all who may find this thread down the road, if you can get into your Recovery (any recovery) your phone is almost certainly not bricked. You may have a lot of fixing to do, but it's almost certainly fixable.
When the splash screen doesn't even come up after hitting the power button or the charing light doesn't come on when plugged in...that's when it's time to worry. (And even then you may have options)

I did the wire-trick to S-OFF my device. WHen I first did that, my only option in the bootloader was RUU and I was about to ask you about that but took my battery out first. Now it's back to normal and it shows S-OFF. However, my microSD card is now completely wiped. I have a backup on my computer, so should I just copy the files back on there and try another ROM so that my WiFi will work?

copy your files into sdcard then reboot your device
about wifi you can flash the boot.img manually(maybe you do not need that because you are S-OFF now)
otherwise flash your rom again

What recovery and version?
S-off or S-on. If S-on, you need to extract boot.img from the ROM package, and flash using fastboot every time you flash a ROM.
And searching would have found this answer, there are hundreds of threads detailing this.

You should not be flashing anything, if you don't even know what recovery you've installed. Boot into recovery, does it say TEAMWIN when recovery starts up? If so, it will say what version number at the top of the menu screen.

The vague description of what you did either means:
1) You are too lazy to tell us exactly what steps you did. Which makes it hard to help, since we need as much information as possible, or
2) You don't actually remember what you did, which is disturbing. It suggests a poor understanding of what you are doing, and/or trying things in hurry, without keeping track of what you did.
You need to tell us in detail, step by step what you have tried to this point.
You've likely messed up recovery by doing something you shouldn't have. I tend to agree with timmaaa to just return to stock until you have a better understanding of what you are doing.
Thank you

[Q] Stucked in HTC logo

Hello guys, i hope someone can help me. This is my situation:
At the begining i had a stock rom 4.1.1 from AT&T. I succesfully did S-OFF and installed Super CID 1111111. Everything went great but my goal was to install the Germany T-Mobile 4.2.2, so, the next step i did was to follow a tutorial wich guided me to install team win recovery. I copied the rom i mentioned to the sd card and when i tried to flash it failed. So, i did a wipe (Im so stupid ) and now i had no OS. after that, i tried to install ClockWorkMod to follow another tutorial and fix that. I did it using adb but when i tried to reboot in recovery it got stuck in a black screen and i need to push the three buttons for a long time to power it off. Since that, i turn it on, put it in fastboot mode but the console don't even recognize it when i try to use adb (It find no adb devices). So, i did a mess with my phone and i cant find a solution.
Can anyone help me please? Thank you so much guys.
PD: If you need any other details i can let you know anything.
I'm gonna need your bootloader details please. Also, what error did you receive in recovery when trying to flash the T-Mobile ROM?
The reason adb commands aren't working is because you need to use fastboot commands when connected in fastboot mode. I'd suggest flashing TWRP recovery back into the phone, mount the storage, copy a ROM across and flash it.

I really dont rememeber exactly, but all i can remember was a Failure red legend in the TWRP. and as i said, i cant get the console to recognize the phone by adb :/

Yeah that's exactly what I needed to see. Like I said, adb isn't going to work, you need to use fastboot commands. So use fastboot to flash TWRP recovery back onto the phone and try flashing a ROM. If that doesn't work I'd suggest running an RUU.

Hello timmaaa, i really appreciate your help. I did check the md5 checksum and the rom seems to be ok. As i mentioned before, the problems shows up when the flashing process steps to the partition detail "something" process. If you are ok with that, i can let you get into my computer by Teamviewer or some other remote control software so that way you can see anything you need by yourself. I don't know the Team Win Recovery version installed and i'm in my work right know and i didn't bring the htc with me, i'll let you know the version as soon as i get home.
I don't have a PC at the moment so Teamviewer isn't a possibility, just post the TWRP version when you can.

Ok, no problem. The version of TWRP is v2.5.0.0
That's your problem, 2.5 is full of bugs. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and try again.

[Q] Sensation alive....sort of

Hello to all you phone guru's,
I am pretty much a noob, so go easy on me please.
Back story...I have been interested in electronic for years and though I am ok on the hardware side of things, the software and programming I struggle with, I am trying to learn but like any beginner there are hurdles at which I stumble and have to ask for help, hence my typing the post.
My trade is mechanics so if you would like any car advice and I can help my door is always open.
Anyway, I bought the sensation I have as a little project, so I could start learning while hopefully getting a nice operating phone out of it as well, it is operating as far as I can get it into hboot etc and it has Tea Win recovery which I can access but that's about it, it appears to have no OS on it, no image....nothing.
I have tried to follow several guides on this site concerning RUU's and images but have failed to have any success, I have ADB downloaded and drivers....the details I have been able to get off phone are as follows:
hboot-1.27.0000
radio-11.23.3504.07_M2
open adsp-v02.6.0.2226.00.0131
eMMC-boot

So now I have shared my problem, please bring forth the solutions, to which I really hope there are some.
Is the phone dead never to be revived?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and any help is appreciated.
since you can boot to the bootloader your device is not dead
the only thing it needs is to flash a custom rom from recovery
i suggest to use 4ext recovery because you are on S-ON
follow only step 2 from here(flashing a recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
then download your desired rom and put it in your sdcard
boot to the recovery
enable smartflash from 4ext
flash the rom
done

since you are on S-ON you can use only the one which corresponds to your region(same firmware or higher) and cid
Neeeeed more help please...
Unfortunately the already suggested ideas have not worked.
So here I am pleading for help again.
I have tried flashing a few roms, 2 of which have installed but not solved the problem and the rom apparently for my phone cid and mid didn't want to installed at all, I have tried flashing PG58.img but again it simply doesn't want to know, I can't s-off for the fact that when it comes to reboot it reboots into the problem which is getting stuck on htc screen then nothing, I've relocked and unlocked via dev, I've also tried editing cid in PG58 img then flashing...still no joy.
I am stuck completely, my eyes are boggling from the amount of threads and posts I've trawled through and im a gnats **** away from taking a hammer to the phone
Anyone out there that can help?
Solved....

Of course you are correct sir, my apologies.
Tbh I thought that nobody would look at my post as im a noob...
Turned out to be that there was a rom (the stock one installed fresh) but no boot
So accessed the rom file copied boot.img and pasted into sdk platform-tools, which I am sure
y'all know is adb, so in fastboot usb....flashed boot boot.img a voila a phone that does not get
stuck on htc screen.
Have a wifi issue now though, which I think may be a rom thing....yet more investigation under way.
Thanks to rzr86 for the help and communications.

that's why i told you to enable smartflash from 4ext in my 2nd post
smartflash is doing exactly what you did manually(with boot.img)
in S-ON devices boot partition is still protected so recovery can't flash the boot.img while installation except if you have enabled smartflash previously
that's why for S-ON users 4ext is more preferable

Trust me my mate i tried what you said several times with 4ext and smartflash enabled only for it to start then abort install.
Hence my confusion and being stuck, i have no idea why it wouldn't install, i checked and double check that it was the right
boot img for rom but as i say it just refused to install boot img.

maybe you were enabling smartflash in the wrong time
you just enable it exactly before flashing a rom

[Q] htc one s will do (almost) nothing

Hi There,
My one S will only start up in CWM. I would like to try and put another ROMon it, but i keep losing my sdcard.
I tried to mount it again, but on my mac i don't succeed with it. My knowledge of adb/fastboot is a bit low (i bought this phone with CM11, but wifi wasn't working properly, so i updated it. Then it wasn;t working at all.
So i kind off got rit of CM11 (not my purpose, but it happened).
Now i'm stuck with a none working phone.
Anyone in the area of Utrecht, the Netherlands who can help me out?
Is much apreciated (i work in a bar, so with beer i can repay )
hope to hear from anyone.
ciao
kalle
You could try another recovery like twrp.

To answer both. I would like to get twrp on it, but the only ways i can find to change the recovery is trhough goo manager or apps you can put on your phone (which isn't working)
I think the first part would be getting the sdcard to be more stable (format the damn thing)
Sorry, i think it's a ville. I will try and get the CID this weekend. including the rest of the info (don't have the device with me (@work) But to fastboot/adb the device i hope the sdcard will work properly...
Will edit this message this weekend.
To flash the recovery you dont need the sd card to work. You can do this by using fastboot commands.
At first you have to make sure that your Computer has the HTC-Driver installed and got a working adb/fastboot directory. If you dont know how to make this work, simply search this Forum there are plenty of good guides.
After you got this working, simply copy the latest twrp.zip to your adb folder. Boot your phone into fastboot mode. Open the command prompt from your adb folder and type in: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip".
After this is done you should be able to access twrp recovery.
if you don't tell me whats you cid and if you have a ville o villec2 i can't help you, because you can brick your phone
Finnaly i have time to answer some question and give a update (very busy weekend on this siode )
cid: VODAP102
hboot: 2.15.0000
S-on
i've managed to flash the recovery (twrp 2.8.6.5)
Pushed the latest CM12-1, through twrp i installed it, wipped the dalvik/cache, but then nothing happens...
It seems that i'm stuck in een boot sequence to end up in twrp again..
am going to try to get s-off and then push the rom again...keep you posted

if you're s-on you need to flash the boot.img via fastboot, but if s-off not, maybe this is your problem.
