It changes the RIL. Simple as that.
It's not abslutely needed, but it does make it insanely easy. Th eother way to change the RIL is to download the RIL you want, boot to recovery, and flash it. GetRIL does it all automaticly from within the phone.
This is a great app for managing RIL's!

GetRIL compares your baseband and RIL and determines whether you have the best match. If there is a better match available it allows you to download and install the appropriate RIL. Dead easy.
Thanks guys im seeing an unmatched RIL when using the app, how should I know which one suits me best?

It's probably the matching one. GetRIL will tell you which one that is.
But you can test them all.

Hello I had metro pcs before and I just recently got my HTC Inspire 4G. I root it and put Android Revolution HD / 4G 3.2 ROM with Radio 12.41.60.19P_26.06.04.14_M
And I just ran a speed test and im getting 0.39mb/s Download and 0.63mb/s Upload.
Im paying for this phone with is 4G compatible but those speeds dont seem like 4G speed. Can someone please help me make my phone way faster. Its annoying trying to let the Market open and it takes like 5 minutes. Im located in Sacramento California if that helps. Please help me thanks

No sir I havent touched that. Is there a thread you can link me 2 so I can try it?
You don't need to edit build prop on that Rom. Maybe try another radio.

Hi noob here, I just want to ask if there's a way to improve the sensations antenna reception, I have been having inconsistent signal sometimes people will call me and even if my phone is on they said it goes straight to vm due to low signal specially when my phone is idle for a long time. Hope someone can shed a light to my problem.
Note: I already tried warranty exchange and same thing, tmobile signal in our area is very good.

I was trying to port the Eu rom using a cm9 base and taking parts from the Eu rom, got stuck at a bootloop, you think i would be more successful taking the eu rom and swapping things out like kernel libs etc from the cm9?
I haven't been in this phone much, but kernel, libs, and some directories were key in porting miui V4.

excellent.
Did get a working miui. The connection is way better for me then cm9. No drops yet. But I'm still doing testing for the person who ported it. As of now. Camera works front and back and panorama but no camcorder. SMS data mms works. Sound music all that good stuff works. Phone does not. Can't hear nobody and they can't hear me. She is updating with a newer cm9 base soon. We wanted a booting one first. I'll keep ya guys posted through out the next couple days. It does fly tho. No lag.: )

Phone not working is due to kernel incompatibilities. We had the same problem on the SGS2.

Hey guys, just noticed this thread..I posted an updated link on twitter, if anyone can try it and give me a logcat of the Mic issue, that would be great. Just copy the logcat to logcat.miui.us and link it here. Not sure if you all are aware but I don't actually have this phone, I'm using a One S, so I need to rely on testers to work out the bugs

The "newest" radio is not necessarily going to give you the best reception. Its a trial and error process, as the biggest variable is your exact location compared to your local cell towers. Although the newest is not a bad place to start, you may have to try several radios before you decide which is the "best" for you.
