How would I be able to go from 2.5 -> 3.0 without losing my settings etc.
Can I just dirty wipe and install 3.0 or do I have to do a complete wipe?
How can I backup my information?
I dont have games, but it's just the contacts, sms and settings.
You have to wipe. New base. Suck it up lol
I mean you can try a dirty flash but DO NOT report problems in the thread as they are DEFINITELY your fault. As for contacts, your Google account saves those. As for texts, not sure how to back those up

It's the settings your going to have to do again. Google handles the contacts and an Sms backup app from the play store can assist you with the texts.

Okay :] Thanks!
Rom Toolbox (under misc. data), and I assume Titanium Backup, seem to be able to do *some* of the settings. You can also backup & restore system apps with them, but I"m not sure if that's recommended.
You can backup texts with SMS Backup & Restore.

Dont worry about it. I just cleaned wipe and put my sms and contacts back on.
I used MyBackup Pro

How I move my data in HTC Hero(GSM) such as SMS MMS Calendar to Nexus S
Calendar is synced in the cloud with google. but as far as SMS and MMS their are apps on the market that will do that for you.
App Data like game saves and app settings will be lost unless your hero is rooted and u can pull it off the /data/ portion

My Hero was rooted, but Nexus S didn't root, what best choice SMS+MMS backup app
SMS Backup + by Jan berkel is a good choice

There aren't really any good apps for restoring MMS from what I've searched. Most of the good ones say "MMS not supported" or "MMS restore not supported." Your best bet is using a root application such as Titanium Backup to restore all the MMS.
If you need to store sms in a safe place and don't need it on your phone you should hit the market and get sms backup. It wil take all your sms and store them to your gmail account in the event you need them.
Thank for SMS backup application name,I already backup&restore it.
I have one more question
which application that use for backup other data such as calendar, contact.
I want to use backup application, because I have some problem with calendar sync.
For this problem please look in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914930
I'm in the process of upgrading to the ICS Superlite 4.2 - having some issues with restoring apps+data with TiBu.
What's the best way to go about it so that I can avoid FCs and compatibility issues, while also restoring my messages/settings etc.?
If you're coming from 2.3 then don't restore data. Not everything is compatible and some stuff makes things crash.

So it's best to just start fresh? Is there any way to 'reset' titanium pro so that when i upgrade again down the road it takes what i have installed now versus all of the older apps from 2.3?
Also, what's the best way to at least get my contacts back?

Sync your contacts with google (Gmail) in the future.
Restore all missing apps with data is the best way to get apps back and eliminate fc issues never restore system data from os to os even if its like 2.3.6 to.7 sometimes it can eff things up

agreed. ive nevee had a problem restoring app dat, but never backup and restore system apps, with or without data. I would also stay away from backing up account, wifi, bluetooth and other options available in tb unlessnu are just doing a wipe and reinstall with the exact same rom

I do have my contacts synced to gmail, however it shows all of the autofill emails and not just the contacts I have in my contact list.

i recommend in the contacts app doing a menu > export to sd. This will save a vcf file on your sd card that you can use to import using the next method after you flash. I personally find syncing my contacts with my gmail messy, so I use this method.
With super lite 4.2 you need to update both TiBu and the paid version from the market for it to work. A couple of us had that problem last night and someone found that was the problem. Restore app+data works beautifully afterwards

I've always used SMS Backup & Restore from the market, never had a problem with it and it's quick, even when you have 5,000+ texts to backup/restore.

I use this app for my daughter's phone. I don't care if mine get erased. For the number of her texts to restore, it takes quite a while for the phone to be usable because it takes a while for the message database to stabilize. But, it works.
I use SMS Backup +.

Works great.
Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone (MMS not supported yet).

You can configure it to backup automatically, once an hour, once a day, etc. I set it for once a day so it doesn't tax my battery usage all the time.
It backs up to a free online account.

I've been using this one also for over a year. I love how it backs up to my Gmail so that 1) I never lose my texts and 2) I can search through them in Gmail if I need to. It works great to restore and I haven't ever lost any when switching between roms or different phones. It also backs up my phone call log to Gmail.

I back my dialer storage up via TiBu, but it's only safe if you're returning to the same base or at least same android version. It backs up SMS/MMS and everything. I however use SMS Backup/Restore for everything else.
Whether it's stock, free, or paid, what text message app do you recommend? I'm tired of losing my messages after I change roms..
Download super backup. You can backup your texts and call logs between flashing. I use the stock app

SMS backup & store is good, but slow at restoring. I think Handcent subscription portion has a backup service.

That one works good too, but is slow. However super backup saves to your SD card so if the phone is destroyed they're gone. I use both. Super backup for flashing and SMS backup to keep a more secure backup in case my phone is destroyed.

I need
I am S-off and running my phone stock with root.
I've never had luck with backing up the Messages app so I'm asking for help.
I use Titanium Back up Pro. I also use Hangouts for SMS. Do I just backup the Messages app and hangouts? And then restore with data if I choose to run another stock ROM?
I'm thinking about Clean ROM or Bone stock. I like Sense and I like the stock feel. The only thing I really want is for my music that's on my SD card to play...
Anyway, anyone have luck keeping texts backed up? I need it for work...usually I've never cared about saving texts.
Thank you.

I use SMS Backup & Restore for my backups. I usually don't restore any of them, just keep a running archive.
I came from an AOSP room to the M8. On my old phone I started using SMS backup/restore but soon realized it wasn't saving my MMSs. Since then I started using restoring with the titanium SMS/MMS backup xml it was already making and it works just fine for me. Even from AOSP to stock Sense to Viper.

Sms backup restore does exactly that. It backs up and restores your SMSs (text only messages). The titanium sms/mms xml option also restores my mms messages which conserves any pictures that were "texted" (read, mms) to me as well.

I use this app. Works great for me as I use sense messenger on sense ROM and Google's for GPe ROM.

I've been using that app for about 3 1/2 years. First on my LG G2 and then G3 and now on the M8. And it works slick, it also backs up your call log too.
