slimbean 2.8 expand status bar clock not working - General Questions and Answers

Not working when I click on the time inside notifier drawer. A window pop up with... no application blah blah.. any one have any idea? May be clock package wrongly named? The calendar feature is working ok.
Slimbean 2.8 on I9000.

Are you clicking on the clock after you pull the notification draw down? Cause mine goes to alarms. Also does your notification exapnder thingy work. What I mean is like can you expand the gmail messages in the drawer?

Hi friend, just thought I'd mozzy on in here real quick. Just so you know, it does not matter the name of the apk. As long as the extension of the file is correct (.apk) it should work. The reason why is when Android looks at the apk's, it does not care the name of the file, it only cares what the package name says in the Androidmanifest.xml that is INSIDE of the apk.

wildstang83, Thanks for the info. Everything work fine except for this clock thing. I have wipe/flash and even format SD card then re-flash the slimbean 2.8 and it still not working. I imagine this problem is isolate otherwise I would see it pop up in slimbean thread already. I cant post there yet because of the post count limit.
Frustration!

I have the sunbeam 2.8 everything works fine for me

Need a better mms app

Do anybody know of a better mms app other than the stock and handcent. I'm running DC.3.2.3 Rom the problem is that the stock mms compress the picture way to small. Handcent takes too long to send out the pictures as if it donot want to send. Gmail works perfect just cannot sent to a phone number.
Any suggesting
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
You can always try ChompSMS it's quite popular and very similar to Handcent.
This is the issue that really bugged me, I hated that the stock app couldn't send a file bigger than 14k and didn't like using chomp or handcent. If you are still looking for a more elegant solution, I might have a possible solution. I replaced the mms.apk file in the ROM I was about to flash with the vanilla one (attached) and after booting up it worked perfectly. I like the black background and when I attach a picture it doesn't compress it to crap. I just opened the zip file of the ROM with winrar and deleted the old mms.apk in the sys app folder and dropped the new one in its place. I realize this solution is less than ideal, and there is probably a better way with adb, but I figure soon enough you'll flash an updated ROM anyways.
Try pure messenger, almost like the sense one, almost.

@Nerovingian
Thank you! That was the exact thing I was searching for awhile ago, but people were pointing me towards handcent and chomp (which were overkill for what I wanted). I was looking for white on black background mms app. I don't like the stock because just about everything else in the evo is a dark theme. The mms was obnoxious black on white and was blinding if the lights were out where I was. I hope your app is kosher and will behave itself (if you know what I mean)....
I understand what you mean. If you have any doubt, there is am excellent post in the Android development forum that has all of the vanilla apks. Just search for vanilla topics and you should be golden.
Thanks for the tip
I was always under the impression that the apps compress in order to comply with file size limits per different carriers. Am I mistaken?

I got this
E: Wrong digest:
system/app/Mms.apk
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
what did i do wrong? I'm running fresh 1.0.1 with amon recovery.
@supwidachew
It worked for me. I went where the original was and renamed it to mms.apk.old. Then I went to the other mms.apk and installed it. No copying. It had some message about replacing something and I just said ok. In the settings of the app, white text on black was checked but not working. I unchecked it then got out of menu and killed the app with a task manager. Started app again and went into settings and checked the box then backed out again. I think I might have done this maybe three or four times before it finally took. I haven't tried sending anything yet so I don't know what's different with that yet.

I have same rom as you but clockworkmod recovery. I didn't flash it, I installed it like any other apk downloaded (not from market )
Wrong word choice and misspelling courtesy of swype.
So this is indeed better than the HTC Messaging app? It doesn't compress pictures horribly? and it still works? Does the sense widget with numbered notifications still work? Does the lock screen message preview still work? Does the status bar message preview still work? Thanks.
ahhh, ok. Let me install it and see how that works.
Allow me to elaborate on my process. I replaced the apk in the ROM file using winrar before I flashed the ROM (see picture to see where I replaced the file) using clockwork recovery, so I haven't tried to install it like a normal apk or through any other method. Since it is the vanilla apk it does not do the lock screen notification where sense shows it, although it does show in the notification bar while locked. Additionally, it does not compress the pictures horribly and I have tested sending and receiving, both which worked. I have only tested my method on Baked Snack 9.7, so I apologize if it does not work on your preferred ROM. Perhaps someone more experienced can offer a better method like using adb?

I'll try tomorrow and let you know. Nandroid is my friend.
If the icon you have on the home screen is the one that was dragged from the app drawer, the answer is no. At least in my setup it wasn't and not an option in settings either. There wasn't a mms widget either
Wrong word choice and misspelling courtesy of swype.
I tried sending a 44kb sound file with the vanilla mms app. It refused to push it out. I tried installing handcent and chomp and try each of them and they both failed. I found where the mms app installed itself and deleted it. Then I renamed the old "mms.apk.old" to mms.apk,rebooted, then the file sent okay. Damn, I was kinda liking the other app too. Hmm, I wonder if I can have both the vanilla and the htc messaging apps installed.... I'm gonna try it now.

Nope, they want to over write each other. I gotta choose...

Constant "refresh failed" message

I just searched the forum for this but came up empty. I am constantly getting a system message saying "refesh failed". I tried uninstalling some likely apps and disabling auto update on others to no avail. I asssume something is wasting system resources and i would like to correct it. Is anyone else getting this or have an idea of what app or service I should suspect?
Thanks

Same here. Its when, for some reason, the widget isnt able to connect to update. Lose the widget and it goes away.
Same thing here. I can't figure out what makes the widget not be able to update (it happens when I have a great wifi signal), but once it does, it's like the TF decides never to update again -- I'll get the error midday, and by dinner it still has not updated.
So wait, that would mean that its trying to update even when not being used because I'm not even using it and I get the same message. I use Beautiful Weather instead. Are you sure its not something else that's causing it?

I'm guessing it is built into the rom so will have to be rooted to remove it. I'm not rooted yet but I system panel lite and don't see it active in there. Maybe if you put it back, disable all automatic behaviour, and then remove the widget the process will stop.

New Conversations.apk App with Text Message Notifier

The new Conversations.apk from the Xperia Play dump works on my X10. It has a new notifier that shows you how many text messages come through, in a nice orange bubble, in the dockbar at the bottom, and in the app tray. The bubbles with the text in also change colour, depending on the theme. it works with the theme manager here . You can also search through text messages, and delete several of them in the menu. However, there are a few bugs, the attachments button doesnt show, and there is a streched icon by the day of the week, and the dates also come out wrong. hopefully, this will get fixed. I have attached some screenies, and the .apk .
I am currently using Wolfs v6 Rom. I flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278122 - the all in one 2.3.4 ports collected together- and i also flashed the theme manager which works with timescape. I then installed the Conversations.apk normally in Explorer, and it worked.
Hope this helps!
erm...where is the apk?
It would be great if you could attach Conversations.apk so we don't need to download the whole dump
just uploaded it now, had to find it again, i lost it:3
I think its. for msgs

SemcEmail.apk with the new notification in icon also works fine
i already have fb timescape launcher, can we have a minimal zip for conversation.apk working ?
Can only send messages through the contacts application, not directly through the messaging app because for some reason it won't add a recipient.

[MOD] Alarm clock from 4.2.2 themed to better fit 4.1 style - v1.2

I took the 4.2.2 alarm clock from arman68 modular rom and modified it to better fit 4.1 Style.
What I did:
- red bold "all caps" headlines changed to white non bold not "all caps"
- everything else that was red is now holo blue
I also tried to get rid of the ugly bold/slim design of the clock fonts. But that isn't so easy as it seems to be and therefore I failed. Maybe in a future update...
Tools used for my modding activities:
- Virtuous Ten Studio
- ImageMagick (command line image manipulation)
- win-bash (UNIX Bash Shell for Windows)
- Greenfish Icon Editor Pro
- WinMerge
- Notepad++
- my brain
Changelog:.
v1.1: Background is now black. City names in city selection list are now smaller. not condensed and not "all caps". Managed to make the hour digits a lot thinner on desk clock and alarm screens. Unfortunately they are still a little bolder than the minutes. Seems to be impossible to obtain the same font for hours an minutes by xml editing.
v1.1.1: Added "UTC" timezone. "Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt" had a double entry in German. Corrected that, one entry is now "Saigon".
v1.2: Reverted the grey gradient on the actionbars on main clock screen to what it originally was - a pure transparency gradient. Actionbars on settings, cities list and alarmclock are now standard holo style with app icon (removed the blue divider line on alarmclock screen, because it doesn't look nice there). Changed the locations icon on the world clock screen to the globe icon from deskclock 4.4

Good job.
I actually like the red and bold/caps heading; this is the way google designed it. But I understand everyone has different choices, and your changes do fit well in the holo design.
To tell you the truth: I have little love for the holo blue. Do you know that the colour blue causes the body to release hormones that keep us awake? Not so good for when using the phone in the evening or at night.
If it was up to me, I would have themed the whole JB interface with the holo orange. For reference, here are the standard holo colours:

No, the digital clock widget has been completely removed by arman68. I've read that backporting the digital widget would mean a rewrite of larger parts of its code because it uses some 4.2 specific system calls with no substitute on 4.1
Here is a test version for Brazilian JB ROM.
Please report if it's working.
Don't forget to backup before trying.

It worked perfectly!
I’m running a XT890 with locked bootloader and rooted.
My System version is 982.50.29.XT890.Brasil.en.BR
Android Stock 4.1.2
Language: Brazilian Portuguese
DeskClock version 1.2
It’s running properly, the texts are just fine.
There’s only one issue, when you start the stopwatch and alternate to other application, the status bar shows the Stopwatch notification (that it is running in background) but the time is above the Stopwatch icon.
This don’t happen to the countdown.
I’ve attached two screenshots to show exactly how it is.
Anyway, I loved this mod, I couldn’t believe when I realized that RAZR I didn’t have a countdown and a stopwatch, I came from a Defy and it has at least the countdown.
Thanks a lot hypophysis!!!

Hey man! I have exactly the same version as yours, and my bootloader is locked and the phone rooted. I'd like to know step by step how to install this mod. Sure!
There’s no secret to make it work!
I've used Root Explorer to do the job, so you gonna need it.
1) Download the DeskClock version 1.2, I've tried the 1.1.1 Brazilian version and it didn't work;
2) Make a backup of your Deskclock and the ODEX file;
3) Delete the files Deskclock.apk and the ODEX file;
4) Copy the new Deskclock to the System APP folder (root/system/app);
5) Set permissions to 644, in case of doubt you can check the permissions in any other file inside this folder, all Apps should be set with this permission.
6) Reboot your phone, I used the way shutdown and turn on, but you can do it with Terminal emulator without any problems too
7) Enjoy your new Clock with Stopwatch and countdown.
I’m using it since last week, no problem was found in the Alarm, Countdown and Stopwatch, the only issue is that I’ve mentioned before.
I hope to help you.
If you need anything else just ask me, I’ll be glad to help.

What kind of problem happen?
Did you get a FC?
I did everything that I wrote and for me it worked.
The permissions are really important, if you forget or put something else it will not work.

No, I didn't get FC. The app disappeared from the drawer, so I can't access the settings for the alarms and so on. I did exactly as you told me, including the permissions. I copied both the APK and the ODEX original files to a safe place, but when I rebooted the phone and couldn't access the clock no more, I copied the original files back to system/app and rebooted again. This didn't work as well...it seems I lost the original app funcionality forever...To remedy this I installed Alarm Klock from google play, a nice, simple and useful alarm app.. This doesn't really solve the problem though, because this app doesn't have stopwatch and timer.
This version I tried to install is the 1.2 ...maybe I should try the 1.1.1 BR...
Installed 1.2 over br stock ROM, works fine!
