[Q] HOX Basic Root and Rom - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ive been keeping up with the ThinkTank 2.20 thread since page 20... we finally have root.. Awesome! Thanks to djrbliss!
My Background: Every device Ive ever owned Ive flashed with custom firmware, Ive had the iPhone since iPhone1. A few weeks ago I decided I was tired being a part of the system and i threw it on the ground. I bought the HTC One X solely because I eventually want to build my own ROM for security and functionality reasons. Now that we're unlocked, i need to know where to start. With so many posts of different ROMs and Tutorials... none of them seem to relate to each other so its hard for me to learn the basics. So here I am.
My Device: HTC One X 2.20 ATT
Current Status: Tampered, Unlocked with Evita PVT SHIP S-ON RL
Rom I want to use - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946784
Question
The ROM itself is only 6mb... that cant be the full size of the ROM to be flashed can it? what am I missing? am i supposed to copy other required files from the ROM.zip to the phone by USB transfer in normal boot or what? Ive put the boot.img in the same "android" folder along with the fastboot and adb files, Ive followed the tutorials, I've tried the one click GUI program somewhere on here... its still not working.
Request:
Can someone explain to me the basics of rooting, recovery image, installing superuser, and installing ROMs and how the whole process works? I might be able to figure out how do these "basic tasks" myself if I understood. I'm just so confused with such an information overload that its hard to find out whats necessary and whats preference.
Most importantly - Ive completely wiped my phone in the process of trying this (i was aware it was going to happen so its cool) but I still have original ROM with ATT bloatware. It just doesn't make sense to me...
Thank you

Your right that's not the size of the Rom a Rom will be 400 mb at least ... I believe the thing u downloaded was just an update...now go to main dl link to the left of the one b...if there isn't any full roms I can give u a mirror ...I'd suggest trying viper xl or one of the other roms too their all good

Noob Question About S-On, S-Off, and HTC's unlock

I used HTC's official unlock and my phone is unlocked, but has S-On. Is there a benefit to S-Off now that mine is unlocked? What is the difference between how the unlocks are? Sorry if i'm not making much sense, I'm new to this place and Android in general... I just got my sensation last week.
Welcome to Sensation
Don't worry, everyone's a noob at some point, I'm pretty much still a noob myself but as far as I understand it:
To this point you have unlocked your bootloader which simply allows the phone to boot with third-party software installed. In your phone there is a form of security check and the level of security is determined by whether you are S-ON or S-OFF. It's a flag at the radio level of your phone that checks images before they are allowed to be written to the system memory. So when you gain S-OFF, you gain unrestricted access to the NAND flash memory on your device, also known as root. With S-ON you can get temporary root but it's not guaranteed, with S-OFF you can get permanent root no matter what you flash.
Essentially gaining S-OFF permits superuser access to the phone, giving you control over all aspects of software and hardware.
If you like your phone the way it comes to you, all filled up with bloatware and stuck using only the latest version of Android that your carrier releases OTA, with a boring/crappy splash screen and boot animation (and so on and so forth ) then you have no real reason to get S-OFF.
If however you have seen some of the shiny ROMs put together by the devs here at XDA, or have a sweet custom splash screen you'd love to see every time you boot up the phone, or just like the idea of having complete control over YOUR phone and flashing what-the-hell-ever ROM/firmware/radio/other stuff you damn well please, then you should definitely consider rooting.
The disclaimer to all this is that if you aren't careful and don't thoroughly research what you're doing BEFORE you do it, you could brick your phone and give yourself some serious grief. The fact you're even asking this now is a point in your favour, there are far too many 'help me' posts on here from people who did something without bothering to try and understand it first. Knowledge is power and there's buckets of knowledge on this forum and others.
I'd suggest reading here and here at the very least.
Hope that helps
s-off means you may do anything with your phone,
you will lose warrenty at s-off gain it at s-on
as the other guy said if u want a nice toutch to your rom s-off it and install, if u want it still legal dont
Thanks for the info. I've been considering using an ICS OTA file on my HTC Sensation 4G, but the guides i've seen only mention S-OFF and nothing about the unlocked S-ON. I just can't wait for the official release!
On the other hand though, I also want to remove bloatware from this phone and found a script for such... but i can't seem to get any temp root method working. I'm not ready to jump off the deep end yet, but i'm tired of the unnecessary stuff.
I also couldn't wait for the official ICS release so I s-off, rooted, super CID, and flashed an ICS firmware and went to android revolution. Honestly, it's one of the best decisions Ive ever made. If you think your stock phone is running good right now, you'll be amazed when you flash it, it will run absolutely faster I tell you.
Though there are alot of risks doing all of that, it might brick your phone completely. So be very careful, read and understand everything if you're going to do all of those stuff.

Hey Guys Noob here,
I need help big time. I gone and mess with something I shouldn't have. I'm a first time android/touch screen user so bear with me.
I was trying to S-off my phone (alrady rooted- after several tries) but I downloaded the juopunutbear zip file on my phone. I mistakenly loaded it via the CWM recovery and now the screen is stuck on that juopunutbear image.
I have tried to flash my rom because I thought it was just a boot loop, but nothing happened. I NEED some advice please don't tell me I bricked it. :crying:

if you can boot into bootloader then you are not bricked
secondly what do you mean by juopunutbear.zip and from where?
edit:you said that you are already rooted
which means that you have unlocked bootloader from htcdev site am i right?
Yes it was already unlock from HTC dev, but I was trying to get S- off using the wire trick method. In reading the Jounutbear guide thread it directed u to a link which has the zip file which I should have run on my pc but I had mistakenly installed it from my sd card and now it isn't going furthuer than that screen. I now can't using the Jbear exe bcuz it not recogining it.
I don't really want to keep adding my nonsense to the thread how can I PM someone for help.

do this
install 4ext recovery
enable smartflash from it
flash the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
I did all that but the phone keeps booting up with the Juoputnutbear image that point to the phone. It looks similar to when I was just rooting the phone but it just no picking up nothing but that.

that's weird
did you perform a full wipe(from recovery) before flashing the rom?
also as long as you are on S-ON use 4ext recovery to flash the rom
and before flashing the rom enable smartflash from 4ext
if you have done all the above then use a ruu.exe to return to stock condition
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425
Well that thread seems to be a mouth full remember I'm a noob. But I will try and read that again to get what it really says. It seems though that it was a complex instruction how to get back to the stock rom? Isn't there a file for that I can download. I get to doing that RUU thing to see if it works tho

Hey guys good news
I finally got the phone to power on. I saw this thread that highlead my pro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284273 but I was really got the details from another forum. I don't know if I'm allowed to post it so I won't, but I'll sum it up.
All I need to do was flash the boot image on my current rom (get this from the zip file) and also flash the recovery image from a backup I had and presto.
But I'll go and follow you guys instruction about enabling the 4ext smart flash from now on. What I want to know though is for some custom roms (eg cyanogenmod 10.1) do I needs to be S-off to install it?
If so I'm still gonna try and S-off this here thingy. Givethanks y'all

no you are fine now
there is no problem with juopunutbear because now you have patched hboot which is unlocked
you are fine also with cwm recovery
but if you still want 4ext do only step 2 from here

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?
The question pretty much sums it up. I just got a Sensation XE, Hong Kong model. It has a lot of crap software on it: youni sms, xda assistant, 通通电话,baidu, kuwo player, and all this other Chinese crap. I hate Chinese software with passion. If skynet was/is real, I believe it would be running a Chinese OS. Chinese software naturally tries to take over your computer or phone.
I want to switch to the stock rom with the least amount of junk on it. If it also has a good Chinese/English keyboard with handwriting input that is a plus.
Also, just to make sure I'm on the right track, this is what should be done before I can change roms, right?
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom

the steps are fine ..but 3rd step is not required ...and 2)better have 4EXT recovery ..its better imho and between 4 and 5 there might be one more step ..which can only be decided after you told the current rom you are having (if running gb now ..for ICS you need to flash 3.32/3.33 firmware ..then ROM)
as for the ROM ..for simple STOCK like and fully customized with bloat removed ..try ARHD, insert coin or Elegancia
Hi,
If you go through the steps you mentioned:
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod (Try to get a PG58IMG.zip version of it, saves having to fastboot flash it)
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom
You could stop at step3 and manuall delete stuff off the ROM you have. OR, what I'd probably do), and as mentioned you can skip step 3 if you're installing a new ROM. Go for a WWE (World Wide English) RUU if you want to keep completely Stock, you can then run ROMcleaner to remove some redundant crap.
Look for something like: RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_Radio_11.69. 3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_246089_signed.exe
It's ICS with Sense 3.6. The 401 in the above means it's WWE and will either need SuperCID (11111111) or HTC__001, it's completely unbranded.
You can find ROMcleaner at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
Thanks for the replies. I know I can root and then uninstall system apps. I don't really like doing that because you just don't know what else has been done to the rom. This Hong Kong rom won't let me use stock SMS (I know how to select default SMS program, it doesn't work on this rom) and doesn't have stock browser (it has some chinese version of Opera), is asking me if I want to invite my contacts to join all kinds of stupid networks, gets involved with my text messages, has some Chinese antivirus that keeps complaining, and all kinds of other crap. It's the worst rom I've ever seen. The WWE appears to be what I'm looking for. It's unbranded and shouldn't have carrier or region specific stuff. Youtube and other apps that don't ask me questions I can deal with.
I want root, for all of it's obvious benefits. I usually run stock, rooted and custom kernal with GPU overclock. But I'm not so sure I like sense, but I want to try a cleaner rom before I decide on sense.
I'm guessing I don't need to do the OTA update before I start the process. I also saw there were some special procedures for the latest ICS. I'll deal with that bridge when I get there. For now I just need a clean rom that doesn't bombard me with useless Chinese crap.

There are a few WWE GB ROMs out there, the one I mentioned is pretty slick as it's ICS which seems to work better IMHO.
The following is mentioned in post 1776 and there abouts in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
The OP has filefactory as the repository but it never worked for me so I gave up on it, looks like others had the same issue.
Just get a Europe one xxx.401.xxx. Avoid 1.24 if you want to go through OTA updates, I had issues with that, might have been me but .....
The ROMcleaner thing I mentioned is pretty good at removing the HTC extra stuff.
Of course, there are a few very nice custom ROMs out there. I was using Virtuous Inquisition (AOSP look and feel based on Sense but de-sensed as much as possible). I've not tried ARHD/IC and some of the others for a long time so can't comment on them.
Have fun and GL on your quest.
EDIT:
P.S. after applying the RUU you'll need to re-install CWM (again easiest was is if you have a PG58IMG.zip version of it) and then apply the root. It looks like the best root at the moment is SuperSU (reading some posts here from EddyOS).
Thanks again. I'm downloading:
RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R2_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_253443_signed.exe
Now that I look again the 3.33 version is available, I probably should have downloaded that.
I've already got: ADB drivers, HTC Sync, HTC driver, java, pg58img(recovery.img), CMW 5.0.2.0, revolutionary-0.4pre4, su-2.3.63-efgh, and the unbrick stuff in case something goes wrong. Once I finished downloading the firmware I should be ready to go. I'll double check that all the files are good, re-read all the instructional threads, and then get started. My phone doesn't have a warranty, so I have to make sure everything is done correctly the first time.
I also found this:

Will I need to flash this as well?
HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

The 3.32 contains the 1.27.0000 HBOOT which can be unlocked (just done it myself). The 3.33 contains 1.29.0000 which at the moment cannot be unlocked.
As you're already S-OFF it probably doesn't make much difference. I'm on 3.32 at the moment, I don't know what the differences are between 3.32 & 3.33, I assume minor bug fixes.

Unless you go back to HBOOT 1.18.00 or earlier revolutionary can't help to S-OFF, as you're already S-OFF you shouldn't need it.
Does the PG58IMG.zip you mention contain CWM 5.0.2.0 ?, I usually keep a copy about called PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip, then change the name when I want to install it. The reason I ask is that PG58IMG.zip is a generic name and can be used for many things. You'll need to pop the uSD card when it asks you to reboot.

No the RUU is self contained and includes the firmware/radio. You might want to install HBOOT 1.27.0011 afterwards, IRC it allows fastboot commands. I think it's in that thread.

I know HTC seemed to have created hassles. I had an early Sensation and waiting for someone to work out how to S-OFF was a real pain.

EDIT
REMEMBER to take a nandroid backup before you start, just in case ! Also remember that nandroid backups don't include HBOOT or Radio so if you need to revert you'd need to get them. Take a note of the existing baseband/radio & HBOOT.

Good point. I'll add that to the list of steps so I don't forget.

Unfortunately the rom didn't download correctly, so looks like I won't be installing the rom tonight.

The nandroid backup is via ClockworkMod, not certain what you're backing up through ADB/fastboot. Guess you could get Radio/Recovery etc. Never tried it myself, I like a simple life
There is no point applying SuperSU until after you have installed the new Stock ROM. You can change the CID directly with fastboot, it doesn't need root for that.
Shame about the download, at least the steps look about right.
Eek, I thought you already had S-OFF ? What HBOOT are you on at the moment ? If it's 1.18.0000 or earlier revolutionary.io is perfect, if it's later it's a different process.
Note that when you install the new stock rom via RUUxxxx.exe, it'll splat the custom recovery so it'll need to be re-applied.
Umm, I booted into HBOOT to get my HBOOT version and at the top of the screen it says:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.008
RADIO-10.11.9007.15_M
That mean I already had S-OFF, right? Well that was easy.
Actually the phone was smuggled into China to avoid taxes. The sellers probably had to get S-OFF to put a Chinese language rom on there. Which also would explain all the extra bloatware, probably was installed by the same people.
Also, I wasn't able to pull the images through ADB. Have to wait until after rooted.
UPDATE: Installed CWM, backing up now, then root. So far so good. I'll probably have to settle for using Titanium Backup to remove the unwanted apps for now. The second try at downloading the RUU also failed.
UPDATE: Rooted, through it probably was already rooted. Also checked the CID and it was already 11111111. Thanks Chinese smugglers. You did all the work for me. Now to finish uninstalling all the crap you put on my phone.
So actually, the only work I did was install the SU and backup my system.
Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

As you say that was easy.
There are other sites that you can download 3.32.401 from as it's fairly common, have a look.
As you have a nandroid backup that you can recover back to if needed you can also try ROMcleaner.
I'm going to try a Jelly Bean ROM tomorrow so my nandroid backup will be vital )
A really nice fairly lightweight ROM is Virtuous Inquisition. As I said it's AOSP look and feel but has Sense backend, it's been de-sensed as much as possible.

Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

I downloaded 3.32 Europe RUU. I plan to install that tonight after work.

The RUU will contain everything you need and update firmware, Radio, Recovery, HBOOT, ..... and of course the ROM.
Remember it'll flatten the ROM so all saved messages, WiFi details etc. will be lost.
If for some reason you need to revert back to your existing ROM you'll need to downgrade the firmware to 1.17.0008, including the radio. I doubt you'll bother though when you're on 3.32.

If it's that urgent you should spend time familiarize yourself with the search button. There is Asskicker's guide how to flash roms with s-on in the general forum. Plus I gave you a link to RUU's in the other thread you posted in.

Hi
I dont understand what u saied??
What can I do?

[Q] Need some serious advice about roms! Been away for loooong

So, i was here back when the phone came out, unlocked the bootloader and got a few Roms in the start, and ended up with Paranoid Android V2.54 i believe, and never really cared about looking for anything new since i thought it was pretty good, and i enjoy as close to stock as possible. But now my phone is getting really slow, and i need a change. And getting back onto the forums here im just really intimidated by the amount of Roms, the term S-OFF and Kernel. I generally know the basics i suppose, but when i was installing Roms back in the early days of the HTC one S it was as easy as getting the rom on the SD card an flashing it. Im probably coming off as a bit stupid here, but i dont wanna brick this phone just because i did one thing wrong.
So where im getting at is, what Rom should i go for? I just need something easy to install, and nothing super flashy. As said earlier, i enjoy the stock android, and i wouldnt mind getting the newer version of android aswell. So give me some pointers, and feel free to give me the details on how to flash it as i havent done this in a while

First thing you should tell us some more info about your phone, just to know better what guides and adices we should give you:
1. Phone model: S4 or S3 (is it with dual core krait 1.5 Ghz or with older dual core 1.7 Ghz processor?)
2. What hboot/firmware do you have, what radio, are your bootloader locked or not (at HTC Dev site)...in fact we need all the info that you have on your bootloader screen (power off phone then keep pressed VOLUME DOWN while pressing POWER)
3. What recovery do you use (CWM or TWRP) and what version?
4. Finally but not least....WHAT DO YOU WANT? A Sense ROM, an AOSP ROM, do you want latest Android version (4.4.2 KitKat) or it doesn't matter to you...things like this. You said something about this but maybe give more details
Then we might have some guides for you and some advices and you could choose among them based on your pers preference :good:

1. According to Quadrant i have a CPU Frequency of 1512MHz, so by definition that should make it a S4
2. For recovery, im almost 100 percent sure its SuperSU, and heres the details from my bootloader:
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.06.0000
RADIO-0.15.315018.19
OpenDSP-v21.1.0.32.0314
eMMC boot
Mar 15 2012.23:37;23
And yes i used HTC Dev website to unlock it. got some sort of key and everything.
3. The recovery i use atm is CWM 5.8.3.1 the none touch version. Tried the touch version a few times, but it doesnt seem to work for me.
4. For ROM as i mentioned i really like AOSP, and can't really see myself going for a Sense ROM unless there's something really awesome out there. Ive used CM 9 and 10, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and one of those Pac-man ROMs before, and they have all been decent. But now i want something newer. Preferably something over 4.1.2 as ive had that for probably a year now, and i need SOMETHING new. I dont particularly want anything that isn't as complete as possible. The ROM im rocking now reboots my phone ATLEAST 1-2 times a day, and have some minor Wi-Fi issues. (not really that bad anymore after buying an expensive new ASUS Router)
So those are like my only things when it comes to ROMs. Doesnt need to be as flashy as coming with a completly themed interface and that sorts
I like CM11. It seems to running ok, but better check the latest in the thread.

OK, I got more info now, maybe some others will step in and give you their opinions and advices. What I can tell
1. SuperSU is not a recovery (you already said you're using CWM)...it's the root program.
2. You have hboot 1.06 the same I had on my device some time ago (not too long ago). It has some advantages and some disadvantages. I'll try to be brief and prsent you all and you can decide what you wanna do.
First some background: S-Of basically means you are able to write to certain partitions on your device, partitions that are normally locked. Most important are the firmware/hboot partition, radio partition and kernel partition. If you are S-On, you cannot write/flash radio or firmware and you MUST flash any kernel via a separate command in fastboot.
Now what makes 1.06 hboot so special...it is behaving like a partial S-Off device even if you are not S-Off. What does this mean? You will be able to flash radios and kernels as any other S-Off user. Only thing you won't be able to flash is the firmware/hboot. On the other hand, all new ROMs require hboot 2.13/2.15 or the leaked 2.16. That means that IF your current hboot allows you to run such a ROM, you won't be able to flash it unless you're editting EVERY TIME the updater-script in the ROM ZIP you're flashing to bypass the hboot check. So things will become little bit complicated.
To avoid all these you should first S-Off then you should upgrade to hboot 2.15. This is the last official firmware and it is supported by all new KitKat ROMs. DO NOT flash 2.16 firmware unless you would like to flash and use Sense based ROMs like MaximusHD.
I made S-Off by using Rummrunner because I found it the simplest way to do it...it's like a one-press-S-Off. If that doesn't work for you, you can try other methods like Facepalm or Moonshine. You can find separate threads for each in Dev section and I'll also link them below
Rummrunner
Facepalm
Moonshine
After you made S-Off, next step will be to upgrade your hboot/firmware to 2.15. You can use the flashable ZIP from THIS thread and you'll find info on how to do it in the thread. I would suggest you to choose the Unbranded 2.15 hboot and that has also the red warning gone (the one you see when start up the device with "This device is for development purposes only...bla bla bla")
For all the above you might also want to check/try a tool that incorporates most of them. You can find it in THIS thread.
Now that you have S-Off and upgraded your hboot, you might want to flash a newer radio. Hint:If you're satisfied with your current signal strength, mobile data and so on, don't flash another radio. Even if in a ROM thread it is recommended or mandatory a certain radio, my advice is to first try the ROM with your current one and only if performance is not satisfactory, flash another radio. You can find radios in tecardo's thread HERE or if you want the newer radios you can find radio 1.20 HERE or 1.35a HERE. One more note regarding tecardo's thread with the radio collection...that thread is old and some info is not updated. Just remember that you must flash ONLY the V6 Sense Radio installer for any ROM you'll be using, being it sense based or AOSP. Also ignore that warning that the procedure is only for hboots below 1.3...at that time there was no S-Off (remember what I've said about the particularities of 1.06 hboot earlier). Now things are different, you're S-Off so you will just need to flash it
Before flashing, you might consider upgrading to a newer recovery. I would recommend you the latest official TWRP 2.7.0.0 that will support flashing anything made for hboot 2.15. If and only if you decide to try sense ROMs based on hboot 2.16, you'll need a different recovery specific for 2.16 and that you'll get from that specific ROM thread. Official TWRP downloads for Ville S4 are HERE
Now youre almost done. You just need to pick your ROM and flash it...pretty difficult task considering how many they are. I tested most of AOSP ones and also some Sense based ones (not the ones for hboot 2.16 tho). I don't want to advice too much here since it could be considered I favour one or another...the truth is I do and that's normal, but I'd like to be objective
First, all KitKat ROMs are pretty stable. On CM11 there are regular nightlies and there are also less stable or bugged builds but this is expected. So you might try several ROMs to see which suits you most and you can decide by reading each ROM's thread. I'll list some ROMs (not all), the ones that are updated most often and I've tested, in no particular order...in fact I'll list them alphabetically to avoid interpretations
AOSP based
Beanstalk
CandyKat
CM11
Infamous (IOAP)
PAC-Man
TwistedKat
Vanir
Sense based
Viper ROM 3.1.3
Liberty ROM
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get most in a single place and if you'll have more questions we'll detail them later. Just try something... READ READ READ...each thread contains valuable info about each procedure and step and also the experience of the users. I know it is easier to ask but don't forget it's YOUR PHONE and YOUR INTEREST to see things working on it. So you should make some effort to read and search also
Good luck
I've read the entirety of your post now, and it's definetly helpful!
As it's pretty late here atm, i will come back to the tread tomorrow and S-Off and all that jazz. Im not a complete moron on this area, allthough thats what it probably seemed like Im glad i asked before i did anything, cause this was alot more complicated then when i was flashing ROMs when the phone came out.
I will definetly try to hold on to my current Radio as i have had no complaints ever on connection and service. So thanks for telling me about that, otherwise i would probably have flashed a new one each time.
Ill be sure to keep you posted on my progress tomorrow, just incase i totally **** up or something, or just cant get myself to understand something. If it is as easy to flash ROMs as it used to be once im ready to flash again, ill figure out my Next ROM, so im grateful that you listed a few of them that i can try out.
Again i wanna thank you for taking the time to explain a total Noob how to go about doing this, i really appreciate it!
rapier's post just about expresses all the basic info you need, couldnt have been put better!!
as far as going on to the newer sense based roms i'd suggest not to take that road yet as they require hboot 2.16 and it can get fairly tricky to go back to the previous hboot.
also for hboot 2.15 also you have more choice for roms available... just a point of view!!
happy flashing!!
So, now im totally lost. did the S-off, and now im trying to do the firmware, but im clueless here as i cant find the folder adb/fastboot in my platfomr-tools sdk folder or whatever you wanna call it. It wants me to place the firmware inside the adb folder, and i cant find any folder with that name.
I followed a guide on how to get adb working on my computer as i did not have that anymore on my PC, so had to redo it.
was following the guide, and did not see this "2. Now place the Firmware_named_something.zip into your adb/fastboot folder" at first, and tried to flash and was welcomed with cannot open "named file here" for obvious reasons when i saw step 2.
but this step 2 is what is confusing me, as ive mentioned, there is no adb/fastboot folder. is this a folder i make somewhere in my sdk? or what am i missing here. to give you the full info, i used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
the second post.
i remember having fastboot in that sdk folder on my old PC, but did not get it this time around when following these instructions, maybe thats what im missing

ADB/fastboot are not folders, are commands. What that instruction meant was to place the firmware zip in the same folder where your ADB/fastboot executable is. Usually this is in "android-sdk/platform-tools". You'll notice there the ADB and fastboot executables

OMG! That makes more sense, still that sentence he used in the guide was pretty misleading though. literally tried making a fastboot folder with the .exe in alot of different folders xD
Will try that one out and see if it works! Thanks, AGAIN!
EDIT:
Just tried to put the firmware inside C:/android/sdk/platform-tools/ folder, but still i got
"Error: Can not open 'Fuu_Downgrade2.15_Unbranded.zip'
EDIT:
Turns out there was a program instead of a .exe :s just tried though, and it failed.
"FAILED (rempote: 99 unknown fail)
EDIT:
Apparently the S-OFF didnt work. Tried Rumrunner, as i didnt understand jack **** about the alternatives
EDIT:
Tried Facepalm aswell, not 100 percent sure if i did it right though, as there was no confirmation anywhere, but still no S-OFF

Just uninstall whichever root app is present on the ROM (Superuser or SuperSU), voila, you're 100% stock.

thankx
thanks for your help but I guess I won't be able to installed ota anymore? though I don't think there be any coming to the phone anymore
Why do you think that? If the phone has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery (which you'd need to flash a nand) you shouldn't take an OTA anyway. If you want to go completely back to stock you need to get s-off so you can run the last Telstra RUU (1.89 I think), lock your bootloader, and take every OTA to get back up to date.

Am grateful bro.
my mobile data wont work
Hi,
so after weeks and days of suffering and trying to install any rom on my HTC One XL only telestra works, even CM wont boot I get into boot looping...
So after I installed telestra my mobile data wont work, I tried on my own find out what is the problem, even I tried to downgrade my phone to froyo so I can install RUU and I couldn't downgrade because adb wont push file to my device one file go through and the other won't... It's says permission denied.
I am here asking for you help please I am so desperate, I am trying to do this all by own so I don't need to pay 20 euros to some services.
I am looking for how to fix this mobile data problem and why I am getting permission denied in adb push file, I was following this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904

Hang on...
Firstly, you tried to downgrade the phone to Froyo? This device has never had Froyo on it, the earliest version of Android that it came with was Ice Cream Sandwich. So what on earth did you try to flash to your device??
Secondly, the other thread that you link to isn't for this phone, it's for the HTC Droid Incredible.
Mate, it seems as if you've been attempting to flash firmwares and exploits from other devices onto this phone, it's a wonder you haven't bricked the thing! ROMs, kernels, radios, firmwares, exploits, etc, are only compatible for the device that they were developed for, they're not interchangeable. This is our device section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
Do not, under any circumstances, wander outside of that section and its sub-forums for anything or it's only a matter of time before you have an expensive paperweight.
Now, what recovery do you have on the phone?
PS. You should edit that image asap, it shows your IMEI, that's something you should never post publicly.
Ty for help and your time first.
I edited photo in paint but you need to edit your post too because picture is still there.
My phone is HTC One XL, xda wont accept this when I enter my device.
Well it's a wonder I didn't throw my phone into the wall.
So everything was fine on this phone until battery started to dry out fast, it's started to lag and everything was slow, clean master, battery doctor didn't help, factory reset few times didn't help.
Then I tried to install CM with this instructions ( I can't link it but when you enter in Google how to install CM on HTC One XL it will pop out wiki ) but my phone wouldn't boot any CM for my phone known as "evita", it would stuck at boot looping.
I have access to recovery. bootloader, fastboot and everything so still it isn't a brick.
I have this recovery img TWRP 2.7.0.8. but if needed I can change it into ClockworkMod 6.0.4.8.
I don't have many experiences in rooting android but I learned some basic commands in cmd with fastboot and adb.

I've edited the image out of my post. Your phone probably boot looped after installing CM because you didn't flash the boot.img via fastboot afterwards, am I right? Because you're s-on and have firmware equal to or higher than 1.14 your phone can't flash the boot.img during a ROM flash in recovery, this means you need to do it manually with fastboot after flashing the ROM. I have detailed instructions in my guide thread (link in my signature).
You need to run an RUU which will take the device back to stock and hopefully clear up the issues you've been facing. In order to run an RUU you first need to get s-off (and SuperCID if you don't already have it). In order to get s-off you need to first flash the Kickdroid 5.0 ROM (Rumrunner s-off has the highest success rate on this ROM).
1. Flash Kickdroid (don't forget to flag the boot.img afterwards too).
2. Go to the Rumrunner site and get s-off.
3. Check your CID:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
3b. If it's anything other than 11111111 you need to change it:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
4. You can now run whatever Evita RUU you want, and leave the device stock for a couple of days to see if your problems persist. What variant is the phone? At&t? Rogers? Telstra? Hong Kong?
Transmitted via Bacon
I did everything what it's says on rumrunner s-off page before I tried to install CM
well I would link to you what steps I was following but I am junior member so I can't, as I said write in google how to install cm on htc one xl and you will get wiki page and there will be steps which I followed.
How could I install then telestra if I didn't was s-off?
I am very tired now but I will answer to you some basic question you asked.
I am on vodafone variant or in my country (Croatia) it's vip, so when I get some sleep I need to install Kickdroid (well in the morning I guess I would figure out what flag the boot.img mean), and after Kickdroid I can install any RUU I want but need one for vodafone am I right? something like this? RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_Vodafone_CH-DE_2.41.166.1_Radio_0.20os.32.09.10_2_10.113.32.28L_release_280222_signed
I found that on this page AndroidRUU, and when I bought my phone it was on German lang.
And if I manage to install Kickdroid and then RUU I will try to give a chance and see if it work normally but if not I can install again Kickdroid and have that rom? And I can install some kernel but for now I don't know what kernel is and I don't understand do I need to install kernel or not? Oh man ty for your time and explanation I need to take some time and to figure all of this and to install properly .
Forget about whatever you did or didn't do in the past, it didn't work and there's no point wondering why right now because I've laid out a plan for you to move forward. Install Kickdroid, get s-off with Rumrunner, and run an RUU. You don't necessarily have to run a Vodafone RUU, you can run any Evita RUU, but yes the one you mentioned is compatible. You absolutely must get s-off before running any RUU though or you will brick the phone. Follow the steps I mentioned before exactly and you should be ok.
Just realised I missed some of your questions. If you want use Kickdroid as your ROM you definitely can, it's a very good ROM. It's a bit hard to describe what a kernel is briefly, but put simply it's a separate level of firmware that controls how the software or OS (and you) interacts with with hardware. You don't need to flash a kernel, every ROM zip contains a kernel already, otherwise the phone wouldn't operate, it wouldn't even boot up. There are custom kernels available that allow a bit of extra tweaking, like overclocking (or underclocking) the CPU, undervolting, sound tweaks, and various other much more complicated tweaks.

Hello how to add the Russian language in the system??? Maybe they cut. If there is a rom with a full range of languages and the last update, I need a rom without mods!

No Voice/Sound - Possible DSP Partition Error?

Hi all,
First up huge shoutout to the XDA Members. I love the XDA forums, it’s a great resource, and whilst I don’t visit every day, I can say I am a regular user every few years when my phone becomes older, and I want a “Fresh Start”.
So Let me give some details/background of the issue I am facing (there is a TLDR part at the bottom of the thread, where I ask my main questions)
So I decided it was time for my HTC U11 to be “reset”, Install Root Access, and a custom Recovery to take nandroid backups.
Its model: UHL – Telstra - Australia
Baseband: 8998-200321-1905141529
Android Version: 9 (1/12/2019)
Build Number: 3.32.841.4
I had no real problems, installing TWRP Recovery, and using Magisk to obtain Root.
At this point I did Run a Nandroid backup, so I have a System Image, as well as the system partition and Boot partition (I could not Decrypt” the data partition within TWRP, this was a little annoying but I believe this is a normal issues faced, where TWRP does not Decrypt the data partition, very well) I wasn’t too concerned, I could live with Re-setting up my phone from scratch (as I wanted a clean install anyways)
My Stock System Rom was not altered and I could easily restart/re-setup the setup process on my Stock ROM
I decide to test some of the other custom ROMS available from the XDA Developer members, such as ViperROM, Pixel Experience. I found that I faced issues, where Wifi was just not recognized, when installing a custom ROM, After more research I believe that most of the available Custom ROMS for HTC U11 are built for Oreo NOT Pie.
After finding this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80620553&postcount=1267
I decide yeah it cant hurt to downgrade just the DSP partition. To enable these Custom ROMS to work.
This is where I think things started to go pear shape.
I ran the DSP_TWRP_Flashable_OREO_2.33.401.19_install.zip but I did NOT get a backup of my DSP partition saved on my SD Card (I wonder if the whole failed to decrypt data partition, may have caused this issue?) Anyways, I did not get a Backup of my original DSP Image.
When I Installed a Custom ROM, I still faced issues, where Wifi, didn’t work.
I decided to go back to my stock ROM, by installing my Recovery/android backup of my System Image
Again no problems re-installing my backup of Stock ROM, (of course needed to to the phone setup again, as Data partition was wiped)
This is where my main issue presented itself, im back on Stock ROM, but I have no voice or sound, when making or receiving calls. I can only guess that the Oreo DSP image, I installed is causing issues with my Stock Pie Firmware.
After doing more research it sounded like without a copy of my DSP image backup, I most likely needed to do an RUU Re-install and go back to the stock firmware And OS from HTC.
Ive since tried to re-install a number of RUU’s, Each with varying Errors

TLDR – So here is my plea to the community for Help.
At this point im willing to go 1 of 2 ways,
• either I move to a custom ROM as mentioned earlier, with a working Oreo DSP image. So wifi, etc all work
• OR I revert back to my Stock ROM, with a Working Pie DSP image (I like the HTXC Sense blinkfeed, so would prefer to stick with a HTC ROM (either modified or Stock)
Does anyone have a Working DSP image for HTC U11 UHL Pie ?
Or does anyone have a Pie or older RUU for HTC U11 UHL Telstra
Thanks everyone
I see a third option in a downgrade to oreo via the many tutorials in this u11 forum providing you can find a suitable oreo ruu that matches your cid/mid. Then once downgraded you just take the ota to get back to pie.. Just my 2 cents,, hth. Good luck
Ive found a solution
Thanks, hammer for the reply, yeah i thought i may need to go back to Oreo. As the only RUU i could find for my CID: TELST001 was this one
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397917467
but as i mentioned i was getting errors, mainly error: 19 RU MAIN VER FAIL
im pretty sure you cant go back to Oreo from Pie, without tricking it by changing your version number. there's a few posts around, some mention needing to flash a your hosd partition. Good summary here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80192495&postcount=14
However i decided, instead of flashing an Oreo RUU that matches my CID, i'd change my CID to match a Pie RUU.
i found i couldn't do this using 'htc_fastboot oem writecid' command (as im S_ON) but some great person created the HTC Dev Info Tools program. which uses ADB i believe to make changes.
i couldn't exactly find this tools official page on XDA but rather used the google drive link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ubjDGNqCfIply-aRN8C7IQNb-YVkD4M7/view ( from that same thread above https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80192495&postcount=14
Heres a quick video tutorial on how to use the Dev info Tools here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnZjOghsnJ0
you MUST have root access on the phone for it to work ,and developer mode on i believe.
So i successfully changed my CID to the universal one of '11111111'
This allowed me to install this RUU (which im sure matched my MID of 2PZC10000) https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1899786940962575190
i recommended installing via the SD card, to reduce errors, simply rename that downloaded zip file to 2PCZIMG.zip
For anyone else looking for RUU's for the HTC U11 i recommend searching AFH for '2PZCIMG' https://androidfilehost.com/?w=search&s=2PZCIMG&type=files
Something i found strange, and could not see anyone else commenting on on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/tool-universal-htc-ruu-rom-decryption-t3382928
As i first tried just to just extract the DSP.img from that Pie RUU but the HTC Universal Decryption Tool didnt seem to decrypt/work on any Pie RUU that i tried it on. , i But i did see others apparently having success on here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80567339&postcount=14 (im guessing maybe i dont have the pie decryption keys and they are not in the downloadable 'repo' that the tool offers?) i think if i was able to decrypt the Pie RUU and access the dsp.img i could of just flashed that.
anyways just wanted to post those few links to some of those threads that helped me, and let others know what worked for me.
Cheers
Glad you found a solution,, and thanks for great info and download links.. I did not realize the google ruu speadsheet was gone.
@Dreaser - your original post is verbatim my own experience and I found it by searching for the same build number. I am really keen to get my U11 back to stock just to know I can do it so was wondering if you continued with your attempt to flash back to O80_SENSE90GP_HTC_MR_Telstra or just settled.
I am just getting started with custom ROMs would appreciate any help.
Hi, why do you not use LineageOS 17.1 it works fine for me. I have bevore also original rom on my U11, but with this Version it's run nicely.
I can really recommend it to every U1 user.
