Unable to send MMS (consistently) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi all. I recently rooted my phone and installed a Liquid Smooth Cyanomod version of Jelly Bean (4.1.3 I believe) and have been unable to properly send MMS texts since. I can send to myself and receive almost instantly but the best arrival time I've received so far is 7 minutes, with another at over 90 and most of them being sent from my phone but not ever arriving at the target phones. I'm with Rogers and have attempted several different APN layouts without success. I've searched everywhere but am unfortunately unable to post my findings thus far. If you have a set up that is proven to work for you or even just speculate at an answer please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Merely speculating here..
I would have guessed it was an APN or network issue.. But it seems you have tested those variables. Liquid is 4.1.2..
Nothing against any ROM (no bias), but have you tried a different ROM to see if the problem is just in liquid?
Have you tried to reinstall the ROM by Full wiping? Did you install the ROM or update with a Full wipe?
Have you tried wiping caches in recovery, or clearing data from the messaging app?
Make sure and backup messages before making changes (just in case). I use sms backup/restore.
- last, are you using the stock messaging app? MMS can have issues through third party sms apps. I had issues with Go sms (nothing against the app)

I am currently downloading a new nightly to try on his ROM. Have not tried another as I'm terrified to bricking this phone that I've only had for a week. I keep playing around with the APNs and have perfect LTE and 3G coverage otherwise. I am only using the stock SMS/MMS app.
Currently having difficulties just getting the nightly onto my phone, even.

Alright. I wiped everything. Did a reset. Installed the nightly CM 10 release and fired of one MMS. It arrived within 7 minutes. Tied for best so far, really, but why am I not doing better?

It's good to see a user that isn't over confident. My first time I made the mistake of thinking because I code a lot that it would be cake.. Tripped the flash counter and soft bricked within the first few times flashing. Everyone learns somewhere I guess. Backups are your best friend in this business..
What are your data speeds like in the speedtest app?

Seven minutes is still a drag.. But better than never arriving.
Questions:
are you sending the mms to the same person each time? Same network?
Are you restoring data with your apps?
What happens when you send an mms to yourself?
Does your APN have the mms proxy, mms port and apn type set correctly?
Just sent a picture to my gfs iphone and it took 6 seconds, flat.. On the default APN with AOKP Build 5.
an answer usually lies in the individual actions of each person. Too bad there isn't one general answer to things lol.. If there was, I'd be a jedi.

Reflashed about 6 times in the last 24 hours due to a GApps issue. Got everything running and still the fastest delivery is about 6 minutes. That is the best recorded time for that person. Other receivers either just don't get the mms or it takes overnight
Ran a test with the speedtest.net app and got ~4.5 down and 0.45 up. The apn has everything set up according to the Liquid Smooth 4.1.2 ROM as it is what I had to flash back to due to the GApps, wifi and camera issues. APN settings seem to be up to Rogers par...
I'm not restoring any data, starting completely from scratch. And when i send to myself it arrives within seconds. And the proxy, port and apn seem to be fine...
I'm not gifted in this field but have always had a knack for it and two years ago took a college course on programming which had a heavy emphasis on Linux OSs.

Repeated testing has yielded about 6 MB/s up and 1.5 down. Still no consistent MMS though...

[Q] No MMS after rooting

Hi all -
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 and I have just rooted last night. This morning, I am unable to receive MMS picture as I usually can from my girlfriend, who is an iphone user. If I send an MMS pictures to myself, it works fine. I read somewhere you have to reset your APN settings, which I've done but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I've also rebooted a few times. I should tell you that I have backed-up and uninstalled the stock messaging app, since I use Go SMS exclusively. I tried to restore it but was unable to. Could this be the problem or do I need to make more changes to my APN settings?
Thanks in advance
If you search for skyrocket APN's you should get an idea of the settings (PTA is the only one I use)
If you long press the message, does it let you see the attachment/recognize the message as a mms?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
na
it just shows the text - no mms. I got one successfully from my brother (who's on an android), so i'm waiting to see if I can get one from the iphone
take a look at GO SMS in the market and what it supports; it may not support MMS. A lot of apps don't process MMS texts just fyi.
So message details only recognizes it as a SMS, but only when sent from an iPhone? Can you have them turn off imessage? I'm going to guess that's part of the issue
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Just thought id mention this, my mom, dad and sister all have iphones and tried sending me MMSs yesterday, did not work just continuously say downloading.
however i called my mom and while on the phone she sent me the mms again, i checked it while on the phone and it successfully downloaded.
could it have been a fluke? or is there something that changed while i was on the phone?
I had constant moms problems with family/clients using iPhones with imessage enabled
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
If you turn off DATA or momentarily don't have data on; MMS will stick at "downloading...."
you have to disable "Auto Retrive" in Messaging settings then attempt to download the MMS again.
hm if android receives android, I bother it is the problem of your phone.
What you should do is a simple delete and install from the market, to start again.
If nothing changes, I should throw you girlfriends iPhone in a lake and take care she will get an SGS2
Any solution?
Hi all,
Has there been any sign of a solution for this issue yet? I just rooted my GS2 LTE and can not seem to send or receive MMS to anyone at all. I do not want to download any other aps to do it for me, I just want to figure this out. I've also read a lot about changing APNs, any ideas on that?
Thanks in advance.
Guys how can you expect any help if you don't include a carrier in your post?
I know that for rogers when I flash a new rom I have about 4-5 APNs in my list. I actually have to remove one labeled MMS from the bottom of the list and leave the one that is marked as LTE. Then after a reboot I can get MMS no problem. BTW GoSMS does do MMS, I used to use it but have since been using the stock SMS/MMS app.

Sorry, it was late at night/ early in the morning. Thought I included he fact that I was with Rogers. I also have a few APNs. I've played around with a few of them and now I seem to sometimes be sending pictures. It's entirely inconsistent and still takes over 5 minutes to send on the rare occasions it decides to.

I may have found the solution to my issue. I deleted all APNs and made one Rogers APN to act as all of them. I used the instructions I found on a website which I am apparently too new to link to. So far I have managed to send and receive picture texts to myself 100% of the time within a reasonable timeframe. I will be back if that changes when I message other people. Thank you all again for your help.

help getting data to the skyrocket after flashing aokp

Hi guys,
I am by no means a stranger to aokp and I use it on my galaxy nexus
I am having trouble getting data to my girlfriends skyrocket.
I use the APN settings I see other people changing to - which causes the phone to switch in and out of 3g and 4g very quickly allowing for no data to pass through the phone.
should I flash a new radio to fix this?
Thanks
I have tried flashing to the latest ICS radio - that didn't work.
I also tried feflashing the whole rom - that didn't work
I tried restoring apn settings to default - it keeps hanging
any ideas?
I had the same problem. I switched to SKY ICS until I can get it working. It is a common issue people are having and it seems like a fresh download and trying over and over are the only fixes. No concrete solution from what I have read.

Also I use Apex Launcher instead of the Touchwiz that comes stock on the Sky ICS. It has a great feel and my phone feels so smooth on his rom. If you wait a couple weeks there should be a really good and stable Jelly Bean rom coming out.

haha well I tried CM9 this time, and while it had the correct APN's installed already and the most recent ICS radio - it still had data issues - not as bad - but it had issues still with switching from 3g to 4g rapidly....trying SKY now
I'm having no problems with data running aokp. When I first flashed, I didn't notice the cingular apn that was set by default (still got data..). Running mine on UCLE2.

I'm getting different answers from different people....some people data worked with out modding, some people, data worked after modding, other people data just didn't work.
I have tried 3 modems, redownloading and reflashing 3 times, and I have tried both CM9 and AOKP and nothing worked.
hopefully they will find the issue (what ever it is) and fix it soon.

MMS Fix for Epic 4G Running ICS

Hi everybody,
We all know that ICS has made it a bit difficult to edit your APN(s). We also know that some of us have been having issues getting MMS to work when we install ICS on our Epics.
Luckily after a lot of research and a little tinkering I found a great fix that worked right away. I took the APN Settings from an Epic Touch 4g.
1. Within you Epic open your Voice Dialer App.
2. When prompted say "Open APNs".
3. Another pop up will appear, tap on the OPEN APNs message that pops up.
4. The next screen will show one single APN called Sprint tap on it.
5. On the next screen you will see the list of settings for the specific APN. Below are the list of settings that finally got my MMS working.
a. Username: Sprint
b. MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
c. MMS Port: 80
**ALL OTHER SETTINGS STAY THE SAME**
6. Once completed tap the menu button and tap save.
7. Reboot for good luck.
Steps 1-3 will also work for Epic owners trying to edit APN settings to use on another carrier.
Hope the info helps!
Is this more for wifi or 3g. Cause I know I have trouble sometimes. I followed your thing. Guess I'll see how it goes. Cause I don't remember when I have had mms fail for testing.

Interesting. I just noticed this today when I couldn't see an mms in an otherwise awesome CM9 RC1.
I just installed HandcentSMS and that worked, but I prefer not having the extra apps. I'll try this over the weekend.

I believe it only applies to 3G since the APLs are only used as network identifiers by mobile devices.
Interesting. Where did you find the info?

The first three steps were from another post i found through a Google search (Dont ask, i unfortunately dont remember). Once i found out how to access the APL in ICS it was just of matter of finding the APL info for another Sprint phone (in this case a Galaxy II) and entering that info in my Epic's APL.
this was one of the main reasons i installed TPR, may have to switch back to ICS, if this fixes the MMS issues!
Very interesting. Now I need to receive an mms to test.
One thing I noticed was after following all steps, a lot of other information was populated in the Sprint settings when I went back to look.

Wanted to give out a BIG thanks for this fix
I installed CM9, RC1, and had issues sending MMS. Was unsure if it was the towers in San Diego, as I was just visiting,or the phone, but as I has some extra time, I went so far as to do a full wipe and reload of CM9 RC1. Still, over several days, was unable to get a MMS to send 9 out of 10 times, no matter what I tried, while plain text messages went right away.
I rebooted my phone, tried sending a MMS, and it stuck on sending. Gave it 15-20, and even rebooted. Still stuck at sending. I deleted the message, made this fix, rebooted, and tried to send a MMS again, and the MMS sent right away
huge thanks for this! works like magic.

I too can confirm that this works to solve the MMS issues on WIFI. However, be careful; when I rebooted after applying the fix, my phone tried resending all of my past MMS messages. It really bogged my phone down, and I had to delete them in order to stop it from happening.

CM 10.1 Won't allow sending of MMS

I've rommed my phone finally to CM 10.1 the latest official version by _CZ for some reason it takes ages to send a picture message if any at all some times it doesn't even send . I can get them perfectly fine I just can't send them out in a timely manner..... I've been connected to wifi since the start of rom . I've used it in the past and tried using it off wifi and it sends just like alway it can take up to 30 minutes or more .... is there a solution to this help would be greatly appreciated.
I followed the proper steps of flashing down to a fine line of detail . I'm not exactly sure what else to do ... some people suggested checking my APN but I'm not savvy in such ways . Anywhom Help is apprecated.

You're using the XT897C version right? Not XT897? The CDMA version?
I sent some patches loooong ago back when CM10.1 first came out for the Q, which fixes MMS issues. Unless something changed/broke recently, this should still work.
I'm a little confused on what you've tried. So you send with wifi on, fails. You send with wifi off...? What happens?
You said it takes 30 minutes - does that mean it sends eventually?
Are you using any third party apps to send MMS, or just the built-in "Messaging" app?
Yes on Wifi it never sends at all it stays on the sending ....
On Regular Mobile Data It is a hit or miss and rarely sends .
And as far as I know I am on the XT897 I have a sprint cdma not a Gsm phone .
Edit- I'm using build in Messaging application .

Can you check the download that you flashed? It should still be on your SD card, or perhaps on your computer still? Make sure it's XT897C, not XT897.
I'm trying to think of how I tested it - I thought I tried with wifi enabled, and it was no issue. So you've gotten *some* messages to send, but very few? What happens, the app just says "Sending..." and they never send?
If you are running the wrong build, that would do it - Sprint's MMS is really finnicky and needs special settings for it to work properly.
Its the XT897C as far as I know I just flashed it today . In the past it sent but it took some time . Today I have not been able to send at all its been stuck on sending . I've tried sending messages to my wife. Picture messages. To test it out . And it has not sent one at all on wifi or on mobile data .
On the receiving end I've gotten mms . No problem so far my friend sends I get .

Hmmmm well that's unfortunate. Definitely looks like you have the right build downloaded.
Unless something broke recently, I'm not really sure. I know this used to work
Edit - I don't think you'll have an APN option to check, being CDMA - we don't use APN's (technically).
Perhaps try a third party piece of software like GoSMS.
I'll try thank you for trying to help I'll see if a third party application works I'll get back to you asap.
Edit- I did what you suggested it seems handcent works perfectly .I tried Go sms It did the same thing as stock loaded messaging application for cm.
On the upside you helped out a lot thanks .

Application Problems!

So since a couple of days ago I can no longer use applications like vine or snapchat on my 3G connection it only works on WiFi. It's the same with every ROM I install except for when I restore back to my stock backup. I have tried clean installs using ROMs like omni, cm11 and slimkat, all the same results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and for future reference, you're supposed to wait 24 hours before bumping.
Might have set a limit on usage through settings.

See if you've set a limit. If it ain't that, I dunno what it is... Just a suggestion. Happened to me and drove me insane!
