It looks like rooting the tinji i9220 mtk6577 should be similar to the tinji i9300 but the boot.img file as provided here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846999 does not work for the i9220, neither work the rooted images for clones from star or haipai.
So, does anyone have a working boot.img file for the tinji i9220 so we can root this device.
You can tel the tinji apart from other i9220 clones because the flash of the back camera is located at the right side of the camera.
Thanks a lot!
Download TPSparkyRoot from here:

Restart yout Tinji in Factory Mode on Pressing Vol Up + Power on Startup
In Command Line, run:
cd Downloads
cd TPSparkyRoot
adb shell mv /data/local/tmp /data/local/tmp.bak
adb shell ln -s /data /data/local/tmp
Restart your Tinji.
Run TPSparkyRoot.bat in Windows Explorer.

Hi Alex,
I've been struggling with a GT-i9220 a friend of mine bought. I've been trying to find a suitable way to put a north american version of the software on the phone and so far I have not had any luck. For now I'd be satisfied with rooting the phone. Your instructions look good however I cannot seem to put the phone into fatory mode. When I hold down the volume up + power buttons on start up them phone just boots normally.
Is there anything else I can try?

[EDIT 07:39 PM: The above given method {well, only #19, not the whole manual under #5 itself} does unfortunately not work. I don't know why, and the command given is correct, but the phone simply does not boot into bootloader, but instead it boots just as usual, into the running system. I kind of *hope* it's only because my phone's already rooted, but I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with it and so I am writing this to tell everybody at least it does not work on my phone. It's not dangerous though, just a phone rebooting.]

All I get is 'device not found' I think that this phone is some kind of knockoff that only says it's a GT-i9220. Only the sticker under the battery has GT-i9220 on it. It came in a box that said Samsung but no model number and nowhere on the phone does it say samsung and android is missing many items in the settings that would allow for more information or any advanced settings. Windows does recognize the phone as a USB drive. I've tried installing other apps using a downloaded .apk file but the file manager doesn't recognize the file type.
Thanks for your help.

I'm using this guide to try and root a Galaxy S3 (I535VRLHE) with the ultimate goal of installing CM10, and unfortunately hitting a wall very early on. I'm using Root Debug FS to try and root, but I'm getting the error:
"adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
After that it informs me that "UID and GID should both be 0" Are They? Y/N.
Saying Yes or no here does nothing but insist that my phone is successfully rooted (it isn't). Screenshots attached.
I've searched the forums and have seen this problem, but in most instances it's because users were trying to run RootDebugFS from within a zip, or they hadn't unzipped the files properly. My files are all extracted to the same directory and adb.exe is there. Drivers were all installed correctly. USB cable is OEM. Phone is set to USB debug mode, and unknown sources are allowed.
Any ideas what I'm missing?

Android version 4.04, baseband version I535VRLHE, build number IMM76D,I535VRALHE. All the files appear to be in there (see screenshot). Should note that I've tried this on a Windows 7 laptop AND desktop and have seen the same results, so that suggests it's a phone setting or conflict I'm missing?

how do u run it without being an admin
im having the same problem as the OP
Run As Admin correct steps
I had the same problem and resolved it by running the RootDebugfs.bat file in an command window run as administrator.
For win7 - 1) type cmd in the find box 2) a black cmd program icon appears at the top - right click it and choose run as administrator 3) from inside the command window navigate to where you unzipped the root fs program and run it. For example, type cd c:\some directory\RootDebugfs.bat

What 2nd-init?
2nd-init allows us to boot our custom init scripts which wasn't a easy job on a locked booloader.
Click to collapse
Locked bootloader? Now what the heck is it?
Motorola usually locks its phones bootloader which in simple language means it doesn't allow customization. Here is where 2nd-init comes to play, this little awesome app kicks in right after the Bootloader and allows the XT to load a different, non-Stock Android.
With this, you can also install a Custom Recovery, which runs from the Internal Memory, and is not ran from the Recovery Partition (remember: locked, not accessible) what does this means? That even screwing up your phone, deleting all your stuff, or screwing /system partition the phone can still get into Recovery, be recognized by RSD Lite in Bootloader Mode and be flashed with a Stock ROM and it will come back to live normally.
Thanks to this locked Bootloader, is really, really hard to Brick your XT.

NOTE:
Rooting will increase your binary counter.
ROOTING:
A) CWM (Thank you k2wl!!)
Download k2wl's CWM here.
Make sure you have Odin installed and Kies NOT running.
Boot your phone into Download mode by pressing: Vol.Down + Home + Power buttons all together.
Open Odin as an administrator.
Connect to PC using a USB cable.
Odin should show COM:X (X could be anything) on the left side which means your device is recognized.
Click on PDA and look for the file you downloaded (CWM file, should be named cwm_s2vep_k2wl.tar, or something along those lines) and choose it.
When Odin says Leave CS, press Start and wait, shouldn't take longer than 1-2 minutes.
Quick Note: This is not tested for I9105, but it theoretically should work.
B) Rooting
Download this file, and this file.
Place them both in your internal or external SD card.
Now reboot into recovery with the following combination: Vol.Up + Home + Power buttons all together.
Choose install zip from sd card, and choose external or internal, depending on where you put the root zip file in.
Flash the root zip "UPDATE-SuperSU.zip"
Flash "cwm-permanentor.zip"
Reboot
Done, you are now rooted!
UNROOTING AND REVERTING TO STOCK STATE:
Alright so, if you would like to unroot your phone and send it to warranty or sell it... Do the following.
Download Triangle Away by Chainfire from here.
Install it and use it to reset the binary counter.
Download the latest stock firmware for your device, make sure it's on the form of XX**** (e.g. XXAMC2). Non XX firmwares are fishy, and tend to brick devices sometimes. So get the latest firmware from live.samsung-updates.com. Always remember to choose the fimware with YOUR EXACT DEVICE MODEL.
Extract the .zip file from the download to attain a .tar.md5 fie.
Flash it using Odin.
After the firmware has flashed and the device reboots, delete root-related apps like Superuser (might or might not be there), and such.
Done, you are now back to stock state
We've just retired method 1 (prerooted firmwares).
Stick to the SuperSU method... easier and faster, no errors.

Do you see a COM:## sign on the left? Where ## is any number (the port in which you connected your phone). If yes then proceed normally as instructed in the OP. If not then try connectimg your phone to Kies software. It should download the S2 Plus USB drivers then. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable. If that doesn't work either try a different computer. Good luck

The first time CWM always works but then if I try it again, it has jumped back to stock recovery. I also tried it with auto boot unchecked.
Any suggestions?

Congratulations on the hour it took you to write this very helpful thread for beginners. However this is a guide on using a tool that took a great deal longer than an hour to develop, and while this is your own guide on how to root with with cf auto root, it is simply a mirrored/ re worded guide to which there is already a thread. It should be removed unless you have permission from the original dev of the tool, and with that you should then give credit to that developer

It starts up fine but doesn't respond to input. I keep mashing the buttons for a minute and when I press enter, it says invalid option and exits. Thought must be a display problem, so I just pressed one ('1') and pressed enter. Same result.
I looked through the script, but there's no error.
Edit : Tried with two different emulators same response.
