Hi xda, I think we've worked very hard on JellyBean roms and there are numerous famous releases, like
Team EOS 3
My CyanogenMod 10
My LiquidSmooth
Paranoid Android
.
But unfortunately, those roms were made for the Asus Transformer TF101, and TF101G users had to either stay at ICS or miss their 3G/GSM functionality.
I think it's time to resolve this problem.
Without a further due, here is my test-build of CM10 with 3G+GSM enabled : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31119007/xda/tf101-cm-3g-test.zip
PLEASE NOTE: You can achieve full 3G functionality with this rom, all you have to do is use 'PPP widget' from the play store. Several users confirmed this working. I am looking for a better solution, though.
Please do not expect this to work at all.
The rom will boot, but since I have no TF101G model, I cannot test 3G/GSM functionality.
What I need is people with a TF101G, willing to flash this and report back, in a constructive way (logcat).
Please remember that this is a dev thread.
No off-topic discussion here, please. Only development and topic related posts.
If you want to support this project, just hit 'thanks'.

P.S.: My source will be on github soon. I am still working on the Divemaster kernel; it's my top priority for now.
Awesome news! I'll try this once I get home.

It's my first time trying to retrieve a logcat... I've followed this thread without success... It returns nothing.
There are no error message when i try to add an APN manually. It simply not save my APN data.
But, when I go to Settings/More.../Mobile networks/Network operators it returns "Error while searching for networks". I've no "bars" on gsm strength icon near the clock...
With Android Revolution HD 3.4.3 3G i've no trouble at all... It's an ICS ROM, but it show me that the hardware is working properly.
I appreciate your effort. Nobody else seams to bother with this device. Please tell me how can I be more helpfull.

This is great work, but I'm having exactly the same problem here. 3G options are all there, but 3G won't connect. APN list is empty and can't add a new APN. Searching for network operators gives an error.
Also, in Settings / About Tablet, Baseband is showing as Unknown.
ARHD3.4.3 3G works fine here too. ARHD inital setup works like stock ROM - it defaults correctly to New Zealand and automatically sets language, timezones (and maybe baseband etc?).
But I had exactly the same problem problem (3G not working, Baseband Unknown) in Revolver 4 3G too. And neither JB3G nor Revolver initial setup will default my location to NZ, I have to manually set timezone. Could this be anything to do with me being in way-out little-old New Zealand (rather than US/Europe)? Mine is the WW (Worldwide) TF101G model.
I'll try a Logcat tonight when I get home. Happy to try anything else to help or provide any other information - very keen to have this working.
Thanks.
P.S The "PPP Widget" app works fine and allows 3G to connect once configured, so the hardware's all good.

Attached a logcat - hope this is right, never done this before. I started logcat from adb, then went into settings and attempted to add an APN, then terminated the logcat session.
Attached is a logcat from my device as well.
Same problem - simply does not save the APN settings.
PPP Widget however works.
As soon as i get back my device from repair, i'll test it too. Thanks for taking care of this, Rayman, YOU'RE THE MAN!

I've seen that some of you have problems with configuring your GPS so I think it's about time to give a hand.
The problem is that custom ROM's, especially non-sense one's have the wrong NTP Server set.
Here are some steps in order to get your gps accurately:
1. Go to http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/ and search for active servers in your area
2. Get a file manager that allows you to change system files
3. Go to /system/etc/gps.conf
4. Edit gps.conf and change NTP server to the one you've find in first step.
5. Save the changes, then reboot
6. Get from Market GPS Status & Toolbox
7. Open the app, click on Tools->Manage A-GPS-> Reset
8. Then click again on Tools->Manage A-GPS->Download
9. Enjoy your faster gps now.
For those that the fixes above do not work, head over to the HD2 area http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630 and get your flashable zip from there. They are splitted into regions are areas.
Thanx a lot!
Works fine!

In the MIUI rom you can go to Settings, My Location, GPS Configuration and change the NTP server there...
Yep, but this apply only to MIUI ROM unfortunately. That's why I posted a universal method.
Thanks Bioan for the tip btw there is an app in the market called fasterfix which allows changing the ntp server from the available pool, you just have to choose the one that suits you best
Great, it's all about sharing, that's what makes this the community.
I've added a link to this thread into the main INDEX thread (hope that you don't object?), it's at the bottom under USEFUL LINKS.
You've got one apk on the market, for make this:
With fasterfix.apk, if you're root you can do that automatically.
You choose your area and confim.
You could change your area's choice when you travel on another country or area.

I just noticed this today.
It defaults at North America. So i changed it to my.pool.ntp.org.
Am I the only one with a lots of problem with my GPS ?
The first fix takes like one minute. After that, I don't use my phone for a couple of hours, and then launch GPS Test again. Like 99% of the time I cannot have any fix. It seems that the GPS does not work properly : GPS Test shows me like 4/5 satellites, then suddenly none, then lile 1, then 2, then 4... Then none again, like if the GPS just restart or something. I need to switch my GPS off, then put it on, then reset AGPS stats etcetc, and sometimes it works again.
I've tried to set the NTP server to a French one, but it does not seems to change anything. Also, I've tried 3 differents radios.
Any help ?
Hi all,
As a practice project for Android developing I created an app that enables you to add custom locations to the sense weather application. I think some of you noticed that the weather app supports adding only a few cities, mostly the larger cities of a particular state/province. This is because the htc app makes use of a static database that has only around 3600 locations world-wide. This app can add almost any city to that database.
This could be done already, but the method was quite time-consuming and error-prone.
With this app, you just have to search for your city, optionally edit the pre-filled fields for name, state and country and you can add it to the htc weather database. The correct weather code is obtained from the web, for both US and non-US cities. The correct timezone is selected from the database, sometimes you have a choice there as well. Also, the weather application of htc is restarted after adding, so the change is immediately visible.
The app needs root access and an internet connection to work, and you should have htc sense with the weather app installed. I tested it only on Sensation (with sense 3.6) but it should work for sense 2.x up on any htc device.
Enjoy!

Update (19-4-13): New version. It should work on most ROMs now, it doesn't rely on the command line that much.
Update (31-7-12): New version. It checks the hostfile now, and removes the accuweather host from it if necessary. Works great with AdFree and AdAway. Also, to better work with the clock application in sense 4, the geographic position of a city is added to the database. It will search for the coordinates automatically, but you can also manually add them. Enjoy!
Update (16-7-12): Problem occurs on devices having an addblocker that changes the host file (/etc/hosts) installed, like AdAway or AdFree. They add the line "127.0.0.1 netweather.accuweather.com" to /etc/hosts, removing that line or changing back to stock host file solves the issue. See this post for more details.
Update: There seems to be a problem with the server the app connects to, it is not accessible from some (many?) countries or phones. I haven't found a solution yet.
Please try this link with your internet connection (so wifi or mobile), if you get a xml file back, this app should work. If it doesn't, but you can access the site above, please let me know.
Please let me know if it works as well, as well as your country, so I can try to figure out what's going on.
Update (7-7-12): You now have the possibility to manually add a city through its location code.

Installed on my Sensation running PkMn 4.5 ROM.
SuperSU never registrate the app, so i set SuperSU promt to "Grant".
Searched for my city here in Denmark "Klarup" but it didn't find anything. I then searched for "Copenhagen" but it didn't finde that either.
Turned WiFi on but the app dont finde any city at all :-(
I install the app but it cant find any city.
I have root access and I also make a restart. Is something more that I have to do?
I can find and add Klarup, Denmark with the app. You got to have a working internet connection to search for cities.
To both jkolner and l_themis, does it say "no location found" or does it say nothing at all?

Same for me, "No location found" with open wifi
It seems like it just does not make the connection it should.
When I have time, I'll add more connection error handling to distinguish between not finding a city and a connection problem.
That doesn't solve the problem though, its weird. Can you verify that under app-info in your system settings, this app has full internet access?
It has full internet access and Wifi is connected.
Please try the new version, included in the OP. I simplified the search part a bit using a different http request, maybe it works in this way.
I will try to make some more improvements sometime soon, this was what I could do right now.
Didn't work with the new one either.
It seems like an encoding issue, I forgot to encode the location properly in the new version and got the errors myself. I updated the application once again.
However, this will probably fix nothing for you guys, I will look at it in more detail sometime soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
No problem my friend, take your time. For me is something very useful so it will be perfect if it finally works!
This looks good. Is there anyway to get the sense weather lock screen to change from current to a different city?
Tried new version can not find any cities.even London, bristol, paris

It has worked perfectly here though, up to now (even tried it on a desire HD yesterday). Is this site accessable from your place?
I also get network error (israel)
I cant access the site you gave above
Well, so much for a solution then. Apparently the site above is not accessable for some countries. The search for cities uses it.
So at least it works in the Netherlands, and I think it will work in the US as well.
I still find it rather strange, it must be some legal issue.
In any case, I could not foresee this problem.
A solution would be to setup a forward portal, but that's a little much. I'll try to look for some trick to access that site.
Hi guys,
I downloaded WhatsApp Sniffer in my HTC Desire, it seems to be working but can't capture any conversation. In short, when I start the app, I can only see the following message:
"There isnn't any conversations yet, wait until one has been captured. Make sure WhatsAppSniffer is listening and if you are on a WPA/WPA2 network, check that the ARP_Spoof is activated."
I've tried the app in both WEP and WPA/WPA2 networks but no luck. My phone is rooted with:
Android version: 2.3.7
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7-11162011-NIGHTLY-Desire
WhatsApp Messenger: 2.7.8509
Any clues what might be the reason?
Thx,
Sotiris.
I thought Whats App was now fixed so that it did not send plain text.
Hmm, I am not aware of it. But it makes sense... Thx for your reply.
if your network is secured with Wpa or wpa2
the chat will not be captured
to capture chat the network must be protected with wep
or it need to be unsecured

capture anything in wap or wap2...
any help will be appreciated
bumping because it seems that this app doesnt work (anymore)
anyone confirming?
Hi.
I'm also wondering the same thing. Just went through the fairly painful process of downgrading my HTC Desire Z Gingerbread to Froyo in order to then gain root, specifically so that I could use WhatsAppSniffer.
The app seems to have installed correctly, it's running fine, the other apps like SuperUser and BusyBox have no problems. I've run the sniffer for several hours on my shared WPA network at home, and for a couple of hours on a shared Open network last night with no results. It could very easily be the case that there were no conversations to capture, but the other possibility is that WhatsApp have fixed the vulnerability. I'm going to keep trying for a couple more days, and on one more network connection. Will confirm if whether or not I get anything here.
Just reading a couple of open-source articles it seems that WhatsApp pushed release 2.8.3 to iPhones on 27th August 2012, and a similar release to Androids around the same time. This release included (relatively poor) encryption. Anyone who has downloaded the update will now be protected from WhatsAppSniffer. Seems that sniffing is still possible if you can fathom this: ezioamodio.it/?p=29. It's beyond me though. #noob
I tried yesterday found on web the versione 1.03 donate root,
also for myself it seems doens't work,
the spoof says that if I'm scanning a WPA/WPA2 network I have to activated the ARP Spoof, otherwise for WEP it doens't need.
But I supposed it worked in one of the two cases, instead the app continue to search but see nothing.
I tried to send a whatsapp message connecting to the same network that sniffer is connecting too, and it see even not my message.
Is it an older version that doesn't work or maybe it needs a rooted phone and mine one is not?
THANKS

**UPDATE for 4.4.2** -- see this thread. Basically the tether_dun_required database fix from Nexus devices for those familiar with it; MikeyNick posted a great summary there if you're not.
This mod is for T-Mobile US users to redirect built-in tethering from pcweb to the usual fast apn. All you have to do is flash the attached zip and delete the stock "T-Mobile Tethering" APN and everything should work.
--- rambling begins ---
Well, I took the plunge on the Moto Maker not-Cyber-Monday deal and, upon receiving the thing yesterday, was shocked to learn that nobody had made a mod to enable native tethering for those of us with grandfathered unlimited plans. Of course, magenta just has to be different and doesn't use the same restrictions that everyone else uses. The obvious problem is the absence of the entitlement service that performs the check on the other three major US operators; rather, no matter how I configured my apns, the dumb thing still managed to go through pcweb.
So of course the only thing to do is to go searching through system apks. Turns out there is a hardcoded reference to pcweb under framework-res/res/values-mcc310-mnc260/strings.xml, so I changed that to refer to fast.t-mobile.com, and voila! I did change a few other things around in my earlier quest to get this working so if you're comfortable with your phone, please give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.
Many thanks to chaoslimits for his thread, which explained to me how to get apktool to actually build my framework-res.
Thanks for your efforts! I'll give it a shot!

Thanks for the report! Did you apply any other mods (e.g. settings database/APN changes)? It's my suspicion that the only requirement is the modified framework and then changing the stock tethering APN in the Mobile Networks settings, but I haven't tried doing this on a clean install.
Maybe I am not understanding this. Do you mean to say if I use the Power Toggles to activate tethering it will notify Tmobile?
What is the source of the changes made to framework-res.apk
Can you share?

There is never any notification; the issue is how the built-in hotspot activated by power toggles routes traffic. T-Mobile devices use a different APN for tethering (pcweb.tmobile.com), which is what directs clients to the hotspot upsell page. This mod simply redirects traffic so it goes through the same APN as your phone's data (fast.t-mobile.com).

What is the source of the changes made to framework-res.apk
Can you share?

As I said in my post, there is a single xml property that refers to pcweb under framework-res/res/values-mcc310-mnc260/strings.xml, which I changed to fast. There is no "source"; I just decompiled, modified, and recompiled framework-res.apk.

I have previously applied the database/APN changes before installing your file.

Thanks again for the info.
Later tonight I should have some time to flash my phone back to complete stock and see exactly how much is necessary to get tethering working from there. Hopefully I'll be able to update the OP with a friendly set of instructions to get a stock build to be tethering-ready.

How can you tell whether it goes one way or the other? So what if I have an Orange GSM chip in it on Orange network?

Sorry, perhaps I should have been more clear in the OP. This mod is only relevant to T-Mobile US users. It will not do anything if you are on Orange.
Awesome work! What are the requirements for this? Unlocked BL? Root? Just received my Moto X and still undecided to unlock the BL. Currently on 4.2.2

The only hard requirement to get this working is write access to /system. I have an unlocked bootloader and the zip is designed to be flashed in a custom recovery (I use TWRP 2.6.3.1). However, all the zip does is replace one file (/system/framework/framework-res.apk). I am not familiar with the various hacks required to achieve sysrw without unlocking the bootloader, but I expect it would be possible.

Oh snap, it worked! Thank you.

Are you saying that you can't use native tethering on Orange? If you want to give me some information about your APN setup and how Orange deals with tethering I might be able to help, but this mod should have no effect on your phone running on Orange. The only thing this mod does is change how the phone connects tethered devices through the T-Mobile US network.

You're welcome, glad it worked for you!
Nice work. I have been looking for this, but recently went to the KANGAKAT ROM that is based off the same TMO 140.44.3 build. Would I be able to use this patched APK while on KANGAKAT ROM?

The mod itself should work as kangkat is based on stock firmware, but flashing this may mess up some of the built-in mods for kangkat--I don't know the details of what ib4stid did. If you're feeling adventurous, back up your framework-res and flash this to see if it messes anything up.
If you're not feeling adventurous, I can mod the kangkat framwork-res and you can give that a try instead.
EDIT: See attachment, if you want. I didn't actually install kangkat or anything, so let me know how it goes.

So if I am on Tmo, how would I know I am on pcweb when tethering... How would test this to see whether it's fast or pcweb...

If you have a data plan with T-Mobile that doesn't include tethering, any attempt at using the internet via tethering will direct the tethered device to an upsell page which basically says "you need to add this service to your account." That page means the traffic is being routed through the tethering APN (pcweb.tmobile.com) instead of the normal APN (fast.t-mobile.com for LTE devices). If you tether and it works then you either have a tethering plan, or your tethered data is going through the same APN as your phone's data.
