GPS problems poss hardware - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just wonder if this phone has the same problem as the Samsung vibrant cheap pin for GPS you had to take apart the bend it up and wedge a piece of copper between it so it would make a good connection.

I have 2 G3s & the GPS works perfectly in both of them(maybe I'm just lucky)
I don't even use my Garmin units anymore.

Yeah, mine is great. You want to see problematic GPS, just pick up a TF201, 300 or 700...

That's how I got the GPS on my S3 to work, only I didn't wedge a piece of copper I just bent it up a little. I'd rather keep my phone than get a used VZ replacement...

Ya the copper is optional after a period of time without a wedge though it will prob start doing the same thing again.

I miss my att iPhone 4. GPS would lock instantly and super accurate. This takes about 20 seconds sometimes and it still throws you off by a small distance. Not trolling just saying Samsung should put more effort into their flagship phone

That was a waste of time as a simple kernel change fixed the gps for the original galaxy s variants

I've noticed that my GPS's performance is dependent on the ROM I'm running. On CM10 it locks on instantly but on a stock ROM it takes for ever to lock on and really only locks on quickly when I'm already driving. My wife's S3 which has never been messed with instantly locks on with no issues.
Sent from my Galaxy S III

Interesting... my GS3 would lock almost instantly on the stock TW ROM, but on CM10 it takes 30 sec or more to get even a weak lock with a clear view of the sky, and frequently loses lock when it's in the console of my car.

This was the last thing I was expecting from this phone. Did they finally fix it or am I an anomaly?

gps has been working perfectly for me since out of the box
I can't complain. Mine has always been perfect.
Same here. Never had a gps issue. Even at street level. Must have been fixed with the first ota maybe?

I get 15 sec cold locks with 9ft. accuracy all the way down to 4ft. after a min or so. my vibrant takes 45sec to lock with 20-40ft accuracy. (and thats with gps mods). id say they fixed it.

I agree. GPS was always my biggest reservation with Samsung phones. That and lack of a stable cm7.
When cm7 finally comes out for this phone I might sell my mt4g.

[Q] Face unlock on Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)

My mother just got a Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch and saw that it had ics on it. I have always wanted ics becuase of face unlock. Does anyone know why the Galaxy Tab 2 doesn't have face unlock?
Probably cause it sucks with vga cameras.. I have face lock on my sensation, and but disabled it after a few days cause of crappie results. Sensation has a vga front camera as well.

its a pretty pointless feature imo. badly implemented and not secure at all. and if you are using it, have to turn a light on so it can see your face so no late night tablet while your lady is sleeping next to ya, gotta leave the room first lol

Eventually face lock will default to draw or pin if it can't see your face, but still a pita at night.

Screen issues?

When I'm charging my tablet the screen is a bit harder to use, I have to press harder and when I'm scrolling it stops and selects whatever I my finger was over, is this normal? Or is my tablet faulty?
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium
Anyone?
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium
It might be a grounding issue. Try flipping the charger block upside down and plug it in. I heard of that fixing it before. I don't have that issue though. If it still keeps occurring, you can get them to send you a new charger or exchange device if still under warranty.
This is normal for touch screen devices, in my experience. While charging, the touch screen is a little bit more jumpy or less sensitive.
It may be a side effect of some aspect of your power supply or charger. Whether it is a little bit of line noise that affects the capacitance measurements in the phone, or something else, I don't know. The effect may be stronger at certain times, or for certain people. For me it happens a lot more on my Galaxy S2 than my Galaxy Note 10.1, and a lot more at home than at work.
I get it with my phone, I've herd that its a problem with the circuity but I was just wanting to know if all of them do it or if its just mine in which case I'll take it back
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium
So does anyone else get this when charging? Even if you don't please say so so I know if its a case of mines faulty thanks
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium
Yes I absolutely do. I was just pointing this out to someone at work the other day on a display model that we have plugged in...

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Mine also has this issue. Never saw it on any other devices before, only on my Note 10.1, could it be the wacom digitizer?

[Q] Possible Power Button going out????

So lately ive been flashing roms like crazy trying to find the perfect one for me, and ive been having some issues with the phone locking up after i locked the screen and trying to get it unlocked again. the haptic buttons light up but the screen stays black. Just now it happened and the camera flash blinked a few times. It may just be a glitch within the rom. Im using Beanstalk 2.5 at the moment by the way, but have read where the power button could be the issue. I've looked at prices online for it and have seen it for $.99 to as much as $40. dont know what the difference could be in them unless they do the work for you., which just curious but how hard/easy is it to replace?
Thanks!
This doesn't sound like the power button at all. Look at vincom's stickies for the symptoms and trouble shooting.

If you are running a CM base rom, CM has a bug where the phone won't wake from sleep. You have to force reboot.

If you just wait about two seconds your screen will come on.

Sounds like a loose part inside?

Whenever I hold my phone upright and tap toward the top of the screen (even very lightly), the phone makes a weird clicking sound coming from inside. It sounds to me like the small vibrating spinning part that makes the phone vibrate. I don't know if it's just my model of the device of if this is normal but it's very annoying and noticeable. Also, if I shake the phone even a little I can hear the clicky sound. Not sure if I should take it back and replace it but I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem first?
I have this. Just notice it now. Can hear it from shaking the top of the phone back and forth
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Honestly guys, this sound has always been in HTC and Samsung devices that I've had, and to be honest I didn't hear it in my S4,ehich was Prolly the first device in a while where I wouldn't hear a rattle. Someone mentioned a long time ago that's its the part for the vibration/haptic but I don't see how that could be. But yes, I hear it too, and have no clue what the hell it is lol

and when your camera is on, the noise goes away

How much could you possibly be shaking your phone for this to be a problem?

Like I said, any time I even lightly tap the top area of the phone it makes that sound. I wouldn't mind personally if it's just when I shake the phone.
