So i picked up the Maxx HD over the weekend. Loved the phone but the call volume even on the highest setting was quiet. Is anyone else having issues with this? I saw it mentioned on a few reviews but not on everyone. I ended up returning it and going back to my S3. Opinions
My wife keeps telling me i'm a little muffled and i guess it is kinda quiet as well.
I was also being told i was muffled. Hmmm
Sucks cause I really liked the hardware
Mine is loud and clear- almost too loud at times. The network could have an affect on call quality/volume at times as well.

I have this issue as well. A lot of people have asked me to repeat what I am saying. I did not have this issue on my last phone, the droid charge. I have turned off the voice privacy setting and it seemed to have helped a little bit, however I also have been consciously trying to speak louder and hold the phone closer to my mouth. I went into the Verizon store shortly after buying the phone and the sales man denied it. He let me listen myself from his phone and the signal sounded cloudy to me
Had the phone since it came out and not once had these issues with the call volume or muffled sound. Its actually loud and clear for me.
If I hold my phone it is crystal clear
If I use my shoulder to talk I get that muffled response from people
Otherwise its a solid phone...just annoying it does that

Yes, I'm one of the people that think the max call volume on the HD isn't as loud as some other phones, but still loud enough.
For example, on the HD I had the call volume set on 6/7, but the Galaxy S III on 4/7 was the same volume. Turing the GS3 up all the way is way louder than I need.

yaa call volume is low nut perfect as Loud Sound is also not good as every phone....
Just picked up my HD and having the same issue. Is there a fix for this without root? I know with my previous phones there was a tweak
My boss just got the Maxx and purple have been telling him he is really muffled as well. Another coworker also had Maxx and is fine. Be had already swapped the phone once so (unless he got another bad one or is a bad batch) is not the phone.

Anyone else experiencing this in Qik? Tried over wifi and 3G, downloaded all updates. The volume is very low. Does this happen to anyone else?
OMG yes! I thought I was the only one? It's too damn hard to hear who I'm talking to. The person even asked me why I would bring the phone up to my ear every time he spoke. I hope an update can fix this.
I experienced the same thing using Tango. Tried doing a test chat with my friend on his iphone. He kept asking me to repeat myself and said the volume was low. I could hear him fine.
So, just to see, I tried it with the headphones and mic... MUCH better, he could hear me fine.
At first I thought it was the case maybe getting in the way, but taking it off didn't help at all.
Not sure what to make of it... hopefully, it is just some software problem and nothing major.
This is my first post BTW... After leaving the iphone a couple of months ago I have tried 3 Samsung Captivates (Galaxy S), 2 G2's, and 2 MT4G's... I think I finally got a keeper. This thing is redonkulous!

same - tried over data and wifi. However... girlfriend used headphones and no headphones, and iphone head phones... could barely hear here. it would cut in and out sometimes too... she couldn't hear me half the time either... helllppppp this is why we bought this stupid phone!
i had the same problem today, i hope it's just a matter of an update, other than that this phone is awesome! i can't believe i got a MyTouch after having a g1, i thought i'd be a loyal vanilla user but this phone was too sweet to pass up
lol @2071. Yea I'm about to get it Tomorrow coming from a g1. I wish this was vanilla, or i can at least root
Double check that your call is going through the speakerphone. Is it possible that the video call audio is defaulting to the earpiece? I wonder because if it sounds normal using headphones then there's probably nothing wrong. Just a guess.
The other side they can hear me perfectly. Its just my ability to hear them. During the call, if I push the volume keys, the volume meter comes up on the phone as "media volume." Also, if I make a regular non-video call and put it on speaker, the speaker is LOUD. So its just confined to video calls..... Also, other media (music) is LOUD.
Ya I have also tried Tango and its the same low volume on The network or my wifi. I haven't tried headphones yet though.
from Snugs hTc ViSiON
I can confirm low volume as well. Seems to work way better with headphones in for both sides.

Alright, well make sure you all call in to tmo tech support so this becomes a known issue quickly!
im not experiencing low volume... what i am experiencing is when talking to my friend, I had to switch the mic on and off each time I wanted to talk and hear him.. kinda like a 2 way radio
My wife's d2g has a very low in call volume. The volume is turned all the way up, but it is still hard to hear. It is all stock and on the latest ota. Any help would be appreciated to get this to a higher volume.

I wouldn't call the call volume on D2G low. I wonder if it is her particular phone - have you tried another Droid2 Global to compare? Maybe it is time to get Verizon support involved to eventally have it exchanged?
I actually had the "big red" send me a second D2G recently. I was experiencing some very low end, bassy, frequencies out of the earpiece speaker. It made it very hard to hear with much clarity having no high end sound to compliment voices. I noticed that having the volume cranked made something in the phone rattle but having the volume down made it hard to understand conversations. The new handset seems to be better with no rattles. I would call tech support at 866-221-4096. They were very helpful.
I may have experienced the same problem and found mention of a very strange oddity in another online forum turn the phone off, remove the battery and put it back in. Turn the phone back on. Your problem may well be fixed!
I had this low volume problem happen while helping my sister and 10 year old nephew move 3 hours from home. I can tell you I was not happy to find my shiny new phone great for every thing but phone calls....
5 minutes online and a battery "swap" later and all was well.
It hasn't happened to me since.
Same with stock 2.2 and bamf gb. Volume seems much weaker than my previous droid, droidx and evo?
I don't think it's weak. I can hear the ringer when I am 2 floors above the phone in my house, music is nice and loud too, no complaints here. Although I know that others say the same thing as you, but for me personally, I think it's fine.
I agree the volume is very weak. I am coming from an original droid and the volume on that was nice and loud. Never had a problem hearing the ringer, music or movies on it. Now with the TB I constantly have the volume turned all the way up and still can't hear it sometimes.
I thought this too. My wife was complaining her TB volume wasn't loud, so we tested it against my Eris and the Eris was drowning out her TB

didn't do anything for me? I'm on bamf gb too
i'm running stock.
and i actually think the volume is quite loud. music plays pretty loudly, especially with kickstand out for the speaker. in fact, i turn it all the way down during a call, and people next to me can still pretty much hear the entire conversation (when holding the phone up to ear).

Are you saying that when it plays through an external source that it isn't loud enough?
yes i think they may be talking about external sound.. i came from droid 1 and its much louder i think than the TB either way idc cause its still louder than all my friends iphones hehe.
volume flat out isnt good at all... motorola droid 1 was wayyyyyy louder than this.. I shouldnt have to install Volume +.. Even though I already have it, didnt make that much of a difference.
yea for those of u wanting louder volumes get volume+. works amazing. requires gingerbread though

No not at all. In fact I think it's one of the louder devices. Might wanna make sure your media volume is up. I find that everything sounds weaker if media volume is down.
I run CM7 personally and under the CM Settings change the sound volume to 10dB and it makes the phone so loud at the store I am at that everyone turns to look lol. Work in a 58,000 square foot retail store.
Comparing it to an og droid is kind of silly. Droid has one of the loudest external speakers. I find the tbolts speakers to be... A bit low, but not too bad. I generally have my phone on vibrate, and use headphones with music/ video, which seem fine to me.

Hello,
I have the Atrix 2 for about 2 weeks now and I have been noticing that when I try to end a call on speaker, the speaker would make a popping/crackling noise before ending the call. Is this normal on this phone?
Thanks.
Same here dude...i went to att store and ask them ans even call the motorola support they said its normal, i ask them why its doing that? And they said could be the reception and so on so fort...i guess i can stand it...i hardly use speaker phone when i call...hows your battery life?

Have you noticed some kind of echo when you are talking? Because I kinda can listen to my voice when talking on the phone, a little annoying.
The speaker on this phone is very loud and clear when comparing to my HTC Inspire. I haven't notice any echoing yet. The only problems that I have are the speaker popping/crackling when ending a call and when playing a Netflix movie.
The battery life on this phone is excellent. I can go for the whole day of heavy usage and there is still at least 30% left every night. As for the Inspire, I put custom ROM with battery tweaks and UV but it still can't get through the day with light usage. Hopefully we will get some good custom ROMs for the Atrix 2 then we will get even longer battery life with some tweaks.
Sometimes i do hear some echo...ohhhh i forgot are you guys aware that the speaker of this phone is for those who has a hearing aid...just an fyi in case....when i am talking on the phone i had to lower down the vol just a lil bit...all the way its good its just too loud lols

question my friend, how did you unlock your atrix 2?
sorry my friend i've been busy this last few weeks...since the AT&T doesn't have any unlock code for the network carrier of Atrix 2 till April 2012 so i decided to bought mine here http://www.cellunlocker.net/ i got my unlock code for only 24.99$ they will response to you on the next 24hrs. for the rooting i just used and follow the steps with 1 click exploit under the development thread here...
When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Moto G5 Plus's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
As for me noise cancellation works correctly, sound is clear enough
The worst call quality in Moto G5. I can hardly hear the other person on the phone. I have to the phone in speaker for listening. Pathetic phone. My first and last Moto Phone. Will sell this phone whenever I get better price.

Better than my previous phone.... Its as clear as it can be
I hear a lot of reviewers and users complaining of low call volume. Personally I don't what they're talking about, all calls I've made and received have been clear plenty loud enough to hear over any background noise. Excellent call quality and reception, better signal strength than my wife's S8+.

For me there is this call quality issue too. It is worst when putting the phone between head and shoulder. It is no issue using the speaker.
Another related issue might be, when I try to use the Google Assistant while driving. I was using e.g. "Ok Google, what is my next turn". This only works with my G5+ having the engine switched off. As soon as there is background noise the voice commands get not detected.
My guess is a quite bad microphone.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
There are issues with call quality, even after the software patch. My call recipients have been very frequently complaining about the terrible audio quality(a faulty noise cancellation system/ mediocre mic).
If this issue doesn't go away with next update, its definitely a hardware problem. I'll hold my decision till then :|
I received my new G5 Plus yesterday. I've made a couple of calls on it using the bluetooth in my car (2015 Subaru WRX) and I was heard loud and clear. On my end, however, audio was very low and it was difficult to hear the conversation. I had to turn the car radio all the way up which resulted in the radio blasting when finished with the call. Listening to voicemail on the handset, the audio does seem low.

This right here, I always do this and as soon as I do it people tell me they can barely hear me. I did try HD voice for the first time the other day since I switched to Verizon and that sounded like perfection though.
Don't know if you're still soliciting comments on call quality - but I have an interesting perspective. I've had the G5 plus since May of 2017. It's been great. Call quality was clear in both directions, in speakerphone or regular mode. Speaker volume for media (YT, Pandora, etc) was more than adequate. Then, about a week ago, it thought it was hooked up to charger when it wasn't, and wouldn't charge properly. I did an advanced warranty exchange through Moto, and the new one arrived on Monday.
The original phone never went above -35 firmware. This new one arrived with -83. The new one is still plenty loud with media content - but horrendous with in-call volumes. The speakerphone is barely louder than on regular mode. And that's with the volume turned up all the way. I'm calling Moto tomorrow to get this exchanged.
FWIW, both phones were rooted day one - using the same approach. I will relock and flash and unrooted stock image back to the phone tomorrow to verify that this isn't a kernel issue - and I suspect it isn't.
TL;DR - there may be legitimate hardware differences between the same model G5 Plus (RETUS) phones. That may account for why some complain about the issue and others have never seen a problem.
------------
Well, several hours later, after rolling back to 35 and bone stock, I had FULL volume on this new replacement phone. I've rooted it, and added my apps, and the volume has remained full, both speakerphone and earpiece. So I don't think it's hardware.
I'm downloading -83 and will apply that tomorrow to see if that's where the problem returns. Will post results here.
And to add on to my last post - after flashing the latest (.83) stock firmware, the speakerphone is hosed again. This is with a locked bootloader/unrooted clean image. Went back to .35 and speaker works again. I think Moto has a bug in their .83 software.

Nice too see someone doing some correct diagnosis, sadly the chances of Motorola reading this are zero.
Just to add, my uk G5plus has also never had volume issues, but then we seem to be the last place to get any updates, only had august update a month.

Will u tell pls, Where from j bought the phone & what's ur exact model no XT-16xx?
Its a real dealbreaker that with so many awesome PIE custom ROMs around with their awesome kernels with all the goodness of Gcam ports and awesome battery lives, the only bummer seems to be the in-call volume in the custom ROMs. Also, any MP3 played in any music player just is not loud enough as stock. Just because of this reason, I have decided to go Stock until that issue is resolved in the custom ROMs. All the developers "claim" that their ROMs have the Oreo firmware. My question is that is not the sound part of the firmware? How can they screw up that basic function when upgrading all the other cosmetics with kernels and all? A terrible workaround for this issue in the custom ROMs that I have heard is to "use Viper4android" or some other stuff to correct the audio.
Call quality is very poor on AT&T, mostly because of AT&T's lack of support for this device. Thing is, I bought this device for it's advanced features, which I have not been able to take advantage of to this day. I've been trying since day one of buying this device to get them to support wifi calling, HD voice, and VOLTE features on this device. The VOLTE is the worst, because when I'm on a phone call, it automatically downgrades my internet and/or mobile hotspot to HSPA+.
Sadly, AT&T only seems to care about supporting devices that are purchased directly through ATT these days. It is disappointing since when I first purchased this device, I was using a Tmobile Pre-paid SIM card and those features worked fine on there. Truth is, that is why I'm on XDA forums being active again, hoping to maybe find a solution to my problem here since AT&T support can't help me at all.
I've used Moto g 2013 and 2nd gen before. The call quality on those were excellent especially in the 2nd gen. I can't say the same about g5 plus tho. On a quiet place, the call quality is okay but it becomes hard to understand what's being said from the other side even in a mildly crowded place.
