Installing Custom ROMs - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Whenever I try to do an update, or install a custom ROM I get status 7? Any ideas?

Try updating your recovery to a newer version.

System update.

So I have this system update but when I try to do it. It shuts off the phone then it boots to the clockwork recovery and says update terminated. My phone is only rooted. No custom roms or anything. What is this update and how can I apply it? Thanks

You need to lock the bootloader, have the stock recover, and possibly factory reset before you accept the ota for it to work.

You need to flash stock recovery then update. After that you can flash CWM or root again if needed. Get the stock recovery from the RUU and flash it.

I keep flashing the stock recovery with all-in-one and then downloading and installing the update. Everytime, about halfway it goes back to the red triangle with the exclamation point and restarts the phone five minutes later.
I check software and its still 4.0.3 and the update redownloads. I've tried several "stock recoveries" and the update afterwards... never works.
Is there something I can freeze in titanium backup that will make the update notification in the status bar disappear?

In phone settings, tell it not to check for software updates.
That does not make the already notification disappear from the status bar

Have you tried using twrp as your recovery? I had this issue and switched to this recovery and everything updated fine.

If your rooted it won't allow you to update

Are you using CWM or ROM Manager? If the answer is CWM, did you use ROM Manager or NVflash?
Also, have you tried a different ROM, or just the same one?

Basically what the first reply was, but wanted to add in so you know,
If you used ROM Manager to do basically anything, you need to NVFlash CWM and than always use CWM to flash anything. ROM Manager does whats called a fake flash of CWM.
And than yes, which ROM(s)?

Try flashing a different ROM, like stock, and see if the problem persists

trying that now....
well i tried flashing stock and it works but when i rebooted after the LG boot Screen the screen is all black and the backlight just keeps flashing on and off... any suggestions?
Search the G2x development forum for Batch Cleanup Tool. Run that, then flash a stock ROM. Boot that ROM once, then try a custom ROM.

I downloaded the cleanup batch and ran it.... proceeded to install the stock ROM and still stuck on a black screen with the backlight flashing on and off. I think I've tried everything to fix it and nothing works....

Which stock ROM are you installing? Have you tried downloading it again, to make sure it's not a bad download?
Also which CWM are you using? if you're using touch, rev ert back to an older version

Try using TWRP to install the ROM. You are probably using some version of CWM.

No mf1 found?

When I try to flash a rom on TWRP it says something about no mf1 found so it skips then it says failed and won't flash rom.
Anyone know why?
I'm new to the sIII

Going custom from stock

If I am s-off running stock 4.4.4 can I just flash recovery via adb and then go through the usual process for installing a custom rom?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
If by "usual process" you mean make a back up of the stock ROM then wiping and installing your choice of custom ROM, then yes.
Yep, that's what I meant. Thanks.
