I just read this on Apple Insider:
http://appleinsider.com/articles/12...ubber-banding-patent-asserted-against-samsung
The springy action when at the bottom of a list that Apple has tried to say they invented has been invalidated by the USPTO. I believe Android had this prior to Gingerbread, where it was replaced by a glowing bottom bar. I'm not sure if this ruling would change anything, as the new Android method is pretty effective.
The good thing is that manufacture skins can now [re]introduce this effect into upcoming additions.
I think most manufacturers will incorporate it back into their skins, but to give credit where credit is due HTC did an amazing job with the separation effect in Sense 4.

Well, what do you guys think of his implementation? Do you think it is the true sixth sense? In the sense that this implementation still requires us to use a practical surface. Or do you believe sixth sense should be used for say holograms? E.g. Ionized particles/air of some sort that generate some sort of solidity, which provide the surface. However this sixth sense still lacks the features of the sixth sense concept. E.g. Saving of a paper into a file.
Also do you think this could replace our smart phones? Power, Speed, seems to pose no problem in production of a "sixth sense" mobile device. But what i am concerned with is due to the object more than likely being in a compact form (think tic tac container I guess) would this be unsuitable for the amount of heat to be generated from "high end sixth sense devices".
Personally I love the idea of sixth sense, and I wouldn't mind at all, it replacing smart phones or computers to a certain extent. It brings mobility of technology to a whole new level.
On a side note, love how the guy graduated from Carnegie Mellon, all the more reason for me to apply there this year. xD
I'm definitely looking forward to the future of this—as it definitely does seem like the future. But as it stands, it's ugly and impractical. But I guess that's how prototypes are.
Do you mean the device he is using or simply his implementation? If device then yes I agree, i don't want a kinect on my shoulder to use sixth sense. xD But as he said it is a prototype and he is aiming for a more compact device like a necklace he said. More than likely I think he is referring to an amulet for the necklace though. Like as I said with a tic tac container size, or maybe a bit smaller. His implementation seems more or less on track though. Just some added functionality to the device and it'll probably be more or less in tune with the concept.
On a side note, wonder how development of holograms is coming along, I don't hear/read anything of it. Is it just an unpopular field in comparison to AI robots per say?

That's true, I don't hear much about holograms either. I chalked that up to them not effectually existing, but I could very well be wrong about that.
And yes, I was referring to the implementation. The concept, the idea... it's awesome, in my opinion. To see such a thing on a necklace as an amulet/pendant, or built into sunglasses, or anywhere that's compact—that would be worthwhile.
Lawl maybe I should go into engineering instead of computer science to engineer some holograms. xD
Too bad I left physics two years ago though, so no chance.
Holograms would be the icing on the cake! With this, we can virtually interact with any surface. But realistically, we want to interact with virtual surfaces instead.
Well topic/discussion purposed is Samsung's muddled delivery of ICS part of a larger rumoured back lash from manufacturers whom seem to be upset at Google for three reasons? First is Google’s acquisition of Motorola mobility apparently still doesn’t sit well with OEM's, the discontent has been amplified by reason number two. Some still don’t buy the party line of patent purchase only. This seems ungrateful from an outsiders point of view should this speculation hold true.
See such an article here:
http://www.androidauthority.com/google-motorola-deal-android-manufacturers-73966/
Second is Google trying to execute more control as many in blogs and tech articles have suggested Google should. This has been to address the issues of diversity and “fragmentation” that Google has faced criticism for. To what degree is Google executing control still remains to be seen. On a side note I and others have suggested the OEM’s give a stronger and narrower focus with fewer new devices but more polish and support.
Third is that Google with Android has not shown the preferential treatment the big players would have preferred; allowing smaller brands to gain ground and market share using this open platform. Brands like Archos, ZTE, and Huawei. Also allowed ASUS to gain a foot hold in the mobile market, ASUS who now seems to have a strong relationship with Google.
Samsung’s fudged ICS upgrade alone may mean nothing. But with HTC recent delivery and overhaul of ICS, combined with Sony decision to possibly hold ICS upgrades because it feels they miss the mark of quality could be indications of such unrest with the Manufacturers is more than just rumours. If such unhappiness is present and being actioned or plotted that’s where things turn interesting or concerning.
Many would think this unwise considering the lack of success with Manufacturers own proprietary OS’s. Nokia's Symbian slowly lost out, Bada is nowhere near the success Sammy had hoped for, despite cited as being more popular at the beginning of this year than Windows Phone. Meego didn't see much of a life.
Let me hear what you have to say on this topic
I think regarding the purchase of Motorola, it is definitely seen as simply a patent buyout. There are plenty of rumours of them already trying to sell the hardware side of Motorola.
Gaining 17,000 (or was it 12,000) patents is going to be a very good thing for manufacturers, knowing that they are much less likely to be sued with the added protection from the extra patents. However, if rumours are true and Google is looking to sell to Huwaie (?) then that will be another manufacturer up there all vying for a shot at the big time. The good thing is competition breed competition, so we will see devices continuously being updated and bettered, whereas the iPhone will not see this at such a rate.
I think Google trying to take a bit more control over Android is overall a good thing, even if manufacturers may not like it so much because it means it is harder to put out the cheaper handsets that have been selling so well.

So far Google hasn't appeared to have had much influence on Motorola, many because it hasn't been fully approved/finalized. Oddly enough the hold up is China. The strength of the rumour Google selling the Hardware division to Hauwei is the ability to capitalise on the lucrative Chinese market where Android already is dominating.
Time will tell about the patent side, although no evidence is apparent that supports its more than a patent purchase. We'll have to see who gets the next Nexus smartphone and tablet.
So Android 4.1 Jellybean was announced not long ago a while that is nice I decided how about we look past all Android 4.xx. Let's look into Android 5.0 I call Kiwi (Name Could Change at Any Time).
Ok so what is the point of this thread?
Well What I have done is Create my Version of the Future of Android 5.0 Kiwi. Images posted at the Bottom of the Thread.
Now there is not to much to explain but the purpose of this thread.
I ask of Users, And Graphic Designers to pitch in. I Ask Users to provide feedback of Designs Posted in this Thread & What you would want to see in the future of Android & Graphic Designers I ask of you to create your own version of Android 5.0.
NOTE : These Designs are WIP so they are incomplete & are likely to change as time goes by.
Any part of my designs CANNOT be used without my Permission.

Images will be added over Time.
After Jelly Bean it will be Key Lime Pie .

As far as the design goes it looks like you're aiming for something minimal, so you can drop the PM from the clock (if you don't know if it's AM/PM where you are when you look at the time you probably need to quit drinking ) and I'd say a landscape battery would look better with so much empty space.
If you center the clock and move the battery back to the right side, the whole left side would be open for notification icons which IMO is just smart design.
Take anything I say with a grain of salt, like I said it's just my take on it based on just two images.

Thanks for the Feedback. When I design this I treat this as if I was hired by Google Themself to help design Android 5.0. So with that said Apple Has The Center Clock on Their Notification Bar so I didn't want any similarities there. Yes I sorta agree with Keeping the Battery on the Right Side but I would not put it in landscape as that would take up more space. Yes I am aiming for minimal as that is what I believe Android Is. A Minimal Design With Room for Expansion. As for the AM/PM Aspect it's just one of those things that you see all across OS. No need to remove it imo.

It's your project, your call. I was just offering a little armchair criticism. I like where you're going with it from these images and I'll keep checking back on this thread to see where it goes.

I appreciate the criticism, Didn't mean to come off as being rude if I did lol. I just state my reason for why I choose what I choose.

As many of us know, leaked images of KitKat have been released. It appears that Google is following suit with Apple in going for the flattened UI look. I'm not sure how I feel about this...thoughts?
1. Call me a creature of habit, but I like the faux-3D look of today's Holo UI. It's stylish and clean (especially the use of swipable "cards"). I'm not sure why Google is trying to follow Apple's footsteps.
2. Are Flattened UI's something that consumers even want? I haven't played with the new Apple iPhones, but I think the UI design is less aesthetically attractive.
3. IMO, instead of playing around with aesthetics, I think Google should improve navigation of its menus for the common lay person. Arguably, iOS and even Windows Phone 8 are way easier to navigate, and thus, often serve as the top recommendation for users who are technologically inept (e.g. older people).
Ultimately, IMO, I dislike the notion of Google "copying" the marketplace -- especially now that Apple is at its most vulnerable point. Android will maintain and develop its marketshare through innovation (e.g. make Google Now into something even greater than it is today), and not by being a copycat.
Android has been switching to a more flat UI over at least the past year if you look at certain Google apps. Microsoft's Windows 8 UI was probably one of the first widely used flatter UIs out there. If anything Apple was playing catch up with their iOS7 redesign.
I'm not a fan of those Android 4.4 rumored screenshots, they remind me of what a 3rd party ROM or skin would look like and not stock Android.

You're right about Windows 8's look, and I completely agree about how it is reminiscent of a 3rd party skin. The tough part is that this "look" is very subjective - some will like it, some will hate it, and others will be indifferent toward it.
Nevertheless, I, for one, still think Android needs to continue differentiating itself.

I agree, I've always liked the Android holo UI as it has a clean yet professional look to it. Some of these flat UIs end up looking too cartoonish with their bright colors and flat UI elements.

Some of the most absurd changes that software makers (Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, etc.) have done:
1. Clubbing WiFi and Mobile Data into one toggle called Internet. Unnecessary extra tap introduced for no reason.
2. Bluetooth searches for last connected device. You can't connect to another device until the device fails to connect to the last connected device.
3. Removing Screen ON Time (SOT) from battery stats.
4. Removing battery stats since 'Last full charge'.
5. Showing battery stats for the last 24 hours: what a useless metric!
Feel free to add your own observations.
The Bluetooth one is a minor annoyance every once in a while but most of the time it's a convenience. I agree with the rest though.
Also, I hate the Material you theme of android 12 and 13. The accent colors it uses for the dark theme are horrendous. Now I get to choose between a bright white background I don't want but with good accent colors, or a dark theme with nothing but odious pastel accent colors to choose from.

If there was an option to cancel scanning for the last connected device, then there would be no complaints and it will be an useful feature. But to force users to wait until it fails to connect to the previously connected device is pretty annoying.

I don't know why things are forced to be in a way that the designers choose. It is extremely easy to allow for flexibility where users can pick and choose the colours they want. Removing this flexibility makes no sense at all.
I'm also seeing this Apple's way of forcing things to be in a certain way without flexibility permeating into the tech world like cancer. Not good news.
My friends sadly the corporations are becoming retarded and are offending their customers and investors with all kinds of BS. It's a classic story from history, "because they can". To prevent the collapse of civilization and idiocracy, we must HIT THEM HARD with all kinds of barrage such as public shaming, get the media on their case, boycott them, call the CEO in the middle of the night to complain and so on.
Their retardation is a result of their money extraction goal. Their goal is to seduce you into a short term 'reward' for your brain based on their shiny piece of rock, and make you repeat that purchase as often as possible, like worse than an addict.
My friends I hope you are not some mammals/pigeons like how the corporations think of you?
So get in touch with the lawmakers and put some protections in place, prevent the corporate retardation - punish everything even slightly offensive they are doing. HIT HARD don't hold back.

Even google search is dishonest now.

Honestly, things don't really move because most people don't understand the details, and more importantly don't care too. It is this mindset that is being wonderfully exploited by corporations and spying agencies.

I think there is much more to it than just money. It is more about influencing people's mindset and tune them in ways that are beneficial to certain interest groups.
Thera are no interest groups on this planet it's just idiots with common stupid goals that even can't think for themselves as individuals. It's just people who need to keep their money and power because their understanding of what it means to be a human on this planet is relient upon those resources. And that's pretty weird and shortsighted. Weaklings that never had the chance to develop a healthy strong character. The main concept they are missing is that the planet is a closed system. Even with Earth+Mars + moons+ asteroids it's still a closed system. Not to mention like a list of 15+ other abstract concepts they will never comprehend even if GPT-5 explains it to them in 5 different ways.
So it's just a bunch of weirdos who only shame themselves with their actions.
They are like your stupid friend, who is about to do a stupid thing saying "hold my beer". But there's no one to stop them.
So the problem is that money and power corrupt their thinking and their reasoning even before they were born, by means of nurture not just nature.
For example they are willing to commit/turn a blind eye to extreme sins and crimes against what's holy just because ... for no reason actually just to strike fear.
Well the game is up they are playing the wrong game to their own downfall and don't even know it.
Keep it real tell the truth as it, is take no BS from anyone in any situation and HIT HARD with THE TRUTH. Unplug the poor pigeons from the matrix and DESTROY their subversive 'programming'.
However don't do crimes against those 'interest groups' better just spam them (educate them) to prevent them doing crimes.
