So here is the deal. I have read thru a bunch of forums and having trouble finding an answer. The question I have is, I have an Evo 4g laying around NOT ACTIVAVTED, how do I use the phone as a webcam on my wifi network at home and remote view it on 3g/4g on my gnex? Everything I have found allows you to use the phone as a webcam but only let's you view the cam if on the same wifi network. I need something for when I'm at work so I can log on and just check in. Also, my computer is not working correctly so hooking anything up to the PC is out of the question. Thanks for any and all responses

Maybe this plus this? Haven't tried it myself.

I just got my new phone, a Samsung Transform (M920), and I would like to root my phone, for wifi tethering etc... Any Ideas??? I have heard some people have used S.O.C (Super.One.Click) but I want to be sure if this method does work, and what does not work.
In advance Thanks!,

Check out sdx developers forum. They have a kernel that allows netfiltering which is necessary to wireless tether. I can tether now with my transform. Read the guides.

I am using easytether from the market...of course it works but found out that while I am on it, 90% of incoming calls get dumped straight to voicemail (Sprint service)
Anyone got a solution for that?

Hey guys. When I first bought my Surface and brought it home, I was able to connect to my WIFI just fine. However, every time I go to someones house and try to connect to their network, I always have "Limited Connectivity" until I click Troubleshoot. Troubleshoot finds the problem and fixes it, but why do I always have to do this? I have tried different networks.
And today, I am trying to tether using my android. Every time I connect to my phone using the Surface, it says "Limited Connectivity" and this time Troubleshoot does absolutely nothing because it says no problem detected. The tether using my laptop works fine ( I am using it now).
Any help would be appreciated.
Search before posting, please! Known issue.
Short version: Surface RT and certain 802.11n bands don't get along. Either disable them (or 802.11n entirely) on the device, or on the routers.
Thanks, but i did search. My search didnt yield any useful results and since you stated that it has been covered before, clearly i did not search using the right keywords. I cannot find any setting to disable the n band under adapter properties.
If its not too much trouble, please point me to the thread where this is covered.

Sorry, I meant search in general... there's an Internet outside this forum (although the issue has been mentioned here too).
Hopefully, the instructions in this thread will help you.

Is it possible to disable internet on phone but access on laptop through tethering wifi which might increase internet speed on laptop?
Your question is phrased a little weird but if I'm understanding correctly, you want to know if mobile data can be turned off and you still being able to use wireless tethering onto your laptop?
If so, no you cannot. You can't share internet that isn't on. That's like trying to play a Blu Ray on your tv with your Blu Ray player turned off.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Let me make my question more clear.
On my phone
Internet should not be accessible. No application on the phone should use the data.
On my Laptop
Internet should be accessible through wifi tethering.
Why I want it
I believe, while wifi tethering is active, internet data is usage done by the phone as well as the laptop.
But if we stop giving internet data to phone, it can increase the speed of the internet for laptop.
Ultimately, it will provide good internet speed on the laptop.
I hope the above lines makes my idea more clear to you guys. Thanks.

Hey Josh Beach and anyone else way more steeped in this stuff than I
I'm new to custom ROMs and I appreciate everyone on XDA for all the incredible knowledge and help!!
I flashed KitKat Killer to my new T-Mobile Samsung Note 3 and I can't get the built-in hotspot to work. My iPad sees it and accepts the password but after well over 5 minutes, nothing. When I had a Sprint Note 3 and flashed KitKat Killer, it worked great. One difference is that with the Sprint, I went through a tethering step using Bluetooth, I think. Here, I get directed to a Tether page with nothing on it.
The only relevant post I could find is this:

Sometimes it can take a few ,minutes to initialize... try changing the name of the SSID for the hotspot, also, turn off encryption.
wait for pc to ask, home, public, etc. I always choose home. then you should be good to go....
if it doesn't work., smash your PC, and hope you have warranty.

I changed the SSID, I never encrypted my phone.
Any suggestions, anyone?
Thanks!!
