Is dirty flashing when u go into goo manager and flash roms like that? From one build to another.
Sent from gs3..
No dirty flashing is when u flash without wiping your data.

I believe that's how goo manager does it
That's how most any of the apps made do updates to ROMs. CMupdater does it, I know that for a fact.

If I have cm7 on my phone. And I flash a cm7 based rom do I have to do a full wipe?

Read the op for the ROM you are flashing. It will tell you what is recommended. You can always try to flash it without wiping and if doesn't work right, do a full wipe and flash again.

My very first CM10 install was the monthly build (cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-d2vzw-M2.zip).
Can I install the latest nightly build on top of this monthly build with no issues?
I guess what I am asking...are all the installs interchangeable or is there some special stuff required to move from M to nightly and vice versa. Or say your on the latest nightly build and you want to install CM10 stable.
Thanks

You can just wipe caches and flash the nightly.

You can also use this to update to the newest cm nightly without having to download every new build - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyandelta

and one last question...wiping these cache's won't erase data or anything correct? I'm guessing the answer is no but thought I would ask anyways.

Your data will still be in tact if you only wipe the caches

Thank you very much.
Can I go back to the kernel that came with my ROM? I'm running Liquid 4/20 nightly with KT kernel currently and want to go back to "stock". Any way to do this without reflashing?

You will have to reboot into recovery and wipe data. It will take you back to when you first flash the ROM.
Thanks for the response.. What all will be lost with data wipe? Will I still have downloaded apps?

The user wants the stock kernel which came with the ROM. He has to flash the Kernel or flash the ROM once again after wiping the data.

Yes this is exactly what I'm asking about. If I don't have the kernel and I reflash the ROM after the data wipe, what will I have lost when the phone reboots? Maybe a better question is what will I need to restore as I've done a full backup.

When you dont wipe anything and flash the rom, you won't loose anything as far as i know. This method is known as dirty flashing. This may sometimes causes unintended issues.
If you wipe cache, dalvik-cache, boot, system and data and flash the rom, you will loose all the apps installed, messages, contacts etc. This is full wipe, clean install.

Alright, first off ill tell you how I ****ed up. I had a problem with my phone after putting a new rom on it. I didn't get any signal. So I did the smart thing and made an account on here and asked for help, said I should flash a modem and gave me links to it all. The only thing I did wrong was, I PICKED THE WRONG PHONE SECTION. I am using a Skyrocket 1727 and was in the 1777 Section. Now whenever I boot my phone it stays stuck at the first screen that says Samsung and my model info and stuff. I can boot into ClockworkMod still. Can somebody please help me for I have ****ed up royally.
Yea, you f'd up. You could try to push a correct Rom onto your device using adb and see if you can flash that in cwm. Or you could try to odin the stock Rom.

I don't think I explained this correctly, I installed PAC-Man ROM v22.2 perfectly fine but didn't get any signal so I was told I should flash a modem. I flashed the modem and that's when I ran into this problem.

Ok, that's different. You flashed the modem from the i777? Get the i727 ucmc1 radio and flash that in cwm.

Pretty new to this stuff, what is dirty flash and why does it sound dangerous to my device?

Dirty flashing is just doing so without performing a factory reset. You could wipe cache and dalvik just to be safe, though.
