The "Launch by Default" selection on my HTC EVO 4G (original) stock browser isn't clearing. When I'm on it and want to view a video (I.e. YouTube) instead of asking me which app would I like to use it automatically opens it in the browser also along with Google Play and Google Maps instead of going into the spa which I want it to do. It's frustrating as hell and it never used to do this before. I've done the Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>All Apps>Internet>Clear Defaults and still it won't clear them. Any idea why?

that's odd that you say you have an HTC phone. I do too, and I wanted to change my main browser from the stock to opera because I like opera much better. I used to be able to change it whenever by clearing defaults in the settings, but not it doesn't work... I just noticed it yesterday too. I would really like to change my main browser to opera, but I don't know how. I have a Droid incredible 2

Try going to settings > applications > manage applications > opera mini and when you open it, it should have a "clear defaults" button.
Could not stand the default browser that came installed on my 7+,downloaded dolphin from play store, and it's so much better than the stock browser. Is there any way to change the default on the search bar at the top of the screen so it does not pull up the stock browser, but instead pulls up dolphin?
Tried clearing defaults on stock browser but did not work, still brings up stock browser. Any input will be appreciated.

Try Opera Mobile, although not perfect, is the one that gives an almost desktop like experience. And the smoothness of scrolling pages down/up is unbeatable.

I liked the gnex browser better.
What's best for the one x? Chrome? But no flaah... What's the general concensus?

ive been using ics browser
havent tried chrome yet , cuz i forgot lol
i used to love opera browser, but they dont work that well with ics yet
I prefer to use chrome beta, but I keep the stock browser as default because for whatever reason when I click a link from the facebook app it won't work in chrome but it does work with stock.
Chrome... and what was that post about "certain" websites with flash? lol... pr0n?
Anyway, I also have always liked Opera to be honest. Funny, I only like it on Android haha. I'm thinking I'll likely use Chrome over Opera now that it's out, but the look of Opera is pretty nice with the black and it maximizes on space. Also many other nice features...Most of which I think Chrome beta has, but still. Nice browser and been fast for me too.
ICS browser +

Quick ics browser is my weapon of choice. Almost the same as ics browser + but you can adjust the threshold for the quick features.

Oh, and does anyone know if Chrome (beta) transfers bookmarks over from the desktop version?

Yes, it will sync. You need to enable the sync of course on your phone. Then you also need to be signed in from your desktop browser. Go to the wrench and then "sign in" ... it says under the chrome beta on your mobile phone where to go. You need an app specific password I guess...It asked me for one so I made a new one.
Anyway, it worked and if you are then signed in on your desktop browser you can actually open the tabs you have open there on your phone!
However, it's a novel feature because of course it does not carry over any sessions. So right now I see this "reply to thread" page on my phone (it just synced) but if I open it on my One X, it asks me to sign in to XDA of course.
But most importantly, it will sync your bookmarks.
edit-- if you've never signed in before using chrome on your desktop, note that your browser might become themed. i thought the window chrome was messed up at first, but it ended up being a design element. i'm now trying to remove the theme...i don't like it and just want it basic windows color. (easy enough)
also note: if you develop web sites/apps locally ha, you might run into issues. it can't sync across the tab because it won't ever load on your phone of course. so on my desktop browser it now won't open my local web app. i turned off sync for tabs and only have it for bookmarks and autofill (under advanced in the settings up top next to your signed in account) but still no good. i may now have to sign out of chrome on the desktop just to build apps. that stinks.
Xscope browser for me.

I was frustrated too. Then I realized that I could clear the defaults. That worked.
Goto the Settings > Apps > Internet. Clear defaults.
This should set it to Chrome. Also you could change from App association
Cheers

Dolphin HD. I used to use Chrome since it really screams, but it's just too buggy. I wish it wasn't since it even syncs with your desktop bookmarks. Hopefully it comes out of beta soon.
For myself personally I still thing that the Dolphin Mini is faster, more snappy and loads the pages way faster then Chrome Beta. Until google gets there's act together and makes the browser as snappy and less of a hog I'll just back and keep using Dolphin Mini.
Using ICS+.
Chrome and even the stock are good but I've been getting the occasional hiccup in both of those, no problems with ICS+ though. Also a very small amount of scrolling lag on Chrome too.
Anyone else running into the swype function on the default keyboard not working within Chrome? Specifically the address/search bar.

How do you make Chrome the default browser on HTC one S? I've looked around on settings, did not see anything...help?
When I click a link, ics does not pop up a box to choose which browser I want to use. I see in settings that I can set the one I want to default to, but for different sites I want different browser,so I like the popup. Any way to get this feature? I'm using stock tmus ics.

Different sites/different browsers, never seen that app or baked in feature otherwise.
You can use Clear Defaults in application management to set a new default, but thats the closest I've seen.

What I am saying is that in previous roms, when I click a link, if I have more than one browser installed, it would ask what browser I would like to open with. It was not an app. There is no option to clear defaults that I can find in ics.

This usually means you have set a default browser. You need to go into the manage apps section. Depending what browser, off the in built browser you may need to go to the "all" tab. Select the browser and scroll down to clear defaults.
This should then give you the option.

ICS new browser settings
The problem is not what everyone thinks it is. Clearing defaults all you want will not fix this undesirable problem.
What has happened is the update has installed a new option that can not be disabled. It allows you to only select 1 default browser and does not give you the option to select a browser when clicking links. Therefore, you can no longer use other apps to open links and must use the 'default' browser that is locked in the settings options now.
I have been dealing with this problem on the HTC Sensation with the ICS upgrade published by HTC/T-Mobile. So far, I have not found the fix but I'm working on it and hopefully HTC will have the fix soon because the problem has become wide spread now.
So I love this phone. I just switched from my captivate which was an amazing phone. The only thing I can't figure out is how to clear app associations. When I want to set ringtones, under sound settings I usually get the option to choose from zedge, android system etc. Can't. Also, when opening a YouTube vid in the browser, I used to be able to select browser or YouTube app. How can I get this back?

If you're running an older version of Sense 4, go into Settings -> App Associations, and you should be able to change the defaults there.
If you don't have that option, go to Settings -> Apps. From here, select the app that is the default (like Zedge, for example), scroll down and look for the button that says "Clear Defaults". Hope that helps .
Well under app associations there is nothing for ringtones or YouTube links.

In stock Sense, some of the associations are locked to the browser because of HTC's patent disputes with Apple. For example, you can't set Youtube videos to the Youtube app.
There is a way to change this, but I think you have to be rooted to do because you need to change some files in /system. It's been a while since I did it, but search the Development forum for discussions on htclinkify.
Most custom roms have the fix baked in.
