[Q] is it Atrix2's ics missing wifi-direct? - Motorola Atrix 2

I just know there is wifi-direct in 4.0 and above (just some minutes ago....)
and just searched the net and found how to use it
but.......I can't seem to find this feature in our Atrix2.....
is it really..... :
1. there is absolutely no wifi direct on this Atrix2 release version of ICS
or
2. it's just I haven't found where it's located?
it's strange that one extra feature of ICS have been left out for our devices
thx

It ain't there on atrix2 I believe. Even I couldn't find it.

[Q] Wi-Fi tethering question...

OK, here it goes.
I have two Infuse phones. One is running 4.1 and the other is on android 4.2. I noticed that probably (it is my guess) due to the merge not being full or complete yet the Wi-Fi tether is not working.
I tried using Foxfi but this app crashes as soon as I enable it. So my question is, has anyone had the same issue or knows a workaround?
I read a lot of posts on the internet regarding this but nothing really related to 4.2 and most of solutions are using an external APP. Should I be just patient and wait for the full merge?
Am I doing to many questions? xD Thanks in advance.

Thetering in 4.2 works fine on my infuse, flash again and do the 3 wipes before and after flash.... Maybe this work for you, maybe not but how knows....

That's exactly what I'm doing right now.
Edit: Don't know what's goin. It says "turning hotspot on", but sits there and never turns it on. :S
I reflashed from scratch twice and this single feature doesn't work, all other things are working perfectly, but the tethering isn't. What's funny is that all over the internet you're going to find similar issues on 4.2, that's why I wonder if it's not related to that not being stable yet on 4.2.

I need to do some testing when I get home, but I think I found the root of my issue.

4g question

I notice sometimes while WiFi tethering.. my 4g signal well seem to drop.. the 4g icon goes away very briefly..I seem to notice it mostly with the red WiFi logo.. the grey one in some of the roms.. doesn't show how many are connected to your device. .but seems to run better. .I recently lost my IMEI.. But have recovered and I noticed the problem before I lost my IMEI.. I use my wifi at work to connect my work computer to a VPN.. It could be my work computer just being finicky but it gets booted off a lot. All in all it works really good I just wonder if there's a way to check 4 G for any problems.. Just sitting here now with it running with the tether I never lose 4g only sometimes when I'm doing something data intensive such as going to the vpn on my work computer..

Cool story.
I'd probably ask a mod to move this from development, as you didn't release anything.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
you are correct lol. I definitely didn't develop anything.. But it is a developmental question of sorts but yes please move somewhere else is it would be better there..thanks.

Nah, man. Good rule of thumb: if it's a question - not development. This would be Q&A or General.
I'm not a mod or I'd move it. One will be here soon though I'm sure

Everyone always tries to justify their mistake with this same response of it is a development question.
Yet they are always wrong lol.

Fwiw I have the same issue...
And next time just say sorry and that you'll post the next one in the correct forum.

Ok..my bad..will do that. So you have the wi fi issue as well?

Since this thread is still here I thought I would share also. This happens to me as well and is definitely annoying.

I went back to CNA...and the intermittent no reason at all 4g drop stops while wifi tethering ..the wifi indicator at the top is the older grey icon..doesn't show how many devices are connected like the newer red icon wifi..but I did notice it dropping internet to wifi if I make a call..something that didn't use to happen..the 4g icon disappears and drops internet to my lap top..I might try an ICS rom to see if it stops..I wonder if Verizon has successfully snuck in a wifi tether bug..because it definitely seems on any JB rom the wifi is acting screwy..seems like its working, but not very stable..
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2
Well..using the third party tether app that was included with the ROM I'm on now.. Beans ICS.. When I use the built in WiFi it works but I experience data drops..the 4g icon only goes away...the bars stay there, but the icon disappears.. with the tether app included in the set up of the ROM works great..I guess I will go back to a JB ROM and see if they have a third party tether installed..

Now on Baked Black Bean 6..using free Wi-Fi tether and it's working great.. I think something in the last leak of jelly bean is killing the wifi tether..

I will have to give it a try.. right now BB6 is working pretty good for me.. Is 4.1.2 older than 4.1.1?

No.
Edit: I should probably clarify, as Android versions go, no 4.1.2 is not older than 4.1.1. But the TW 4.1.1 was released more recently than AOSP 4.1.2 that Baked Black Bean 6 is based on.

Android Beam/NFC issue

I have a GS3 and my wife has a HOX. Every time I try to share a picture via the beam, it fails and my phone says that the receiving device does not support transfer of large files. I am able to share chrome bookmarks, though. I'm running 4.1.2 and she's running stock ICS. Thoughts on how to fix this?

I've never got NFC to work on this thing stock or rooted
It has the feature. And I know it can transfer SOME data.

Ive heard about s3 and one NFC not liking each to well
Large file transfer isn't supported on ICS. I tried to transfer a pic from my Nexus 4 to my friend's One X (ICS) and later to my other friend's GSII. You can only do links on ICS (unless they have Touchwiz Nature UX) and other small files. That will be updated come JB. It does work from my Nexus 4 to another Nexus 4 however. Company has nothing to do with it.

If I'm on cleanrom or some kind of mostly stock sense ROM, I can use NFC with my buddies gs3 with a touch wiz rom... When either of us are running aosp ROMs it won't work

An official release? For AT&T.. nobody knows, and quite frankly I am done with AT&T.
/endrant
Telstra will be releasing theirs around 24th of December http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Device-Updates/Handset-updates-14-December/td-p/107834
So you could root and SuperCID her phone and flash the Telstra RUU, or wait for a dev to release a JB Sense version, or wait for AT&T (who knows when that will happen)
The reason Sammy devices can beam anything bigger than an URL is because of their own in-house app, S Beam. Basically uses NFC to create a BT connection between the two devices. This allows two Sammy devices to send larger files. We can achieve this as well, I've used "Send!" from the Play Store with great success. Use it with my gf's HOX as well to beam over pictures, videos and music files. This app basically does what S Beam does, so you'll need the app on both phones.
I'm not an Android expert so I may not understand this, but I'm not running the stock Rom for my GS3. I'm on cm10. Does the S-beam really matter?

S-beam/Android beam creates a WiFi direct connection for larger files, and Bluetooth for smaller files I would assume.
I've never gotten it to work on our device, so I would assume its a ROM/kernel issue. Wifi direct is not that popular so it hasn't been worked on

I stand corrected, thank you. S Beam does use WiDi as well. S Beam, though, is based on Android Beam, just goes the one step further in creating a WiDi/BT connection for larger files. From what I've read, Android Beam is only useful for sending very small (i'm talking kilobytes) files/URLs.

S Beam is a Samsung exclusive app. I haven't seen it be ported to any other ROM that's not based on a TouchWiz ROM.

Wifi calling

Can i get wifi calling on one s cm10 stable
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Does it work?
I have tried to find the answer to this as well. Since the last minor update from T-blow it works worse than before.
Is there a CM dev out there that can answer this or someone that is using CM 10.1 stable that can answer this?
Been searching for answer to this as well. Haven't been able to find an answer on these forums or anywhere else. From what I've read simply installing the .apk does nothing. Looks as if its a kernel issue as well. :/
Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
The answer is no.
Unfortunately WiFi calling will not work on anything other then stock.
Their implementation of the service is to ingrained into the framework to simply get it working on the new version.
