On every ROM I have used, it addresses the internal storage as either "/sdcard", or "/sdcard0". Would it be possible to replace the internal SD card with an aftermarket 32GB card? Assuming I got the phone dis-assembled, would it just be a plug-and-play operation, or would I need to actually soldier on a new chip to the motherboard?

They're asking if it's possible to replace the internal card with a larger one, not add one.
As a side note: this should have beem asked in the Q&A section.

Ive never taken an infuse apart...but i have with my htc vivd...and i can tell you this: the internal memory is not a micro sd...its some kind of flash memory chip...
So you would have to find out what kind of chip it is...then find a compatible larger chip, desolder the old chip and then solder the new chip

When do you think or have you seen a Transformer tear down video?
I requested it from iFixIt already.
the only reason i want to see tear down pics is so i can confirm my belief that the internal memory is simply a microsd card.
other than that i hate seing teardowns/repair manuals because its so hard for me to hold off from taking the thing apart!! (im a hardware junkie)

I've seen SSD mentioned somewhere? If it's just a micro SD then that could be very interesting. Not that I'm willing to risk opening up my Transformer to find out.

I wouldn't count on that. It's most likely eMMC, which uses the same interface as SD, but is designed to be soldered to the PCB.

hey guys
Picked up a 32 Gb micro SD card from CEX made by these guys. Supposedly a class 10 card, with transfer speeds of approximately 1Mb, yes tats right ladies and gents.
1 MB!!!!!
Surely this isnt right, do you think ive been had and it might be a fake? Or do you think i have formatted it wrong?
Its sounds like a fake card.

sounds like a fake, I don't trust unknown cards anymore... memory reliability is very important to me, try to get a refund if you can!
good news is i bought from CEX which is a hardware store and they only had one in stock, i trust CEX with my heart as they are awesome, and i dont think they would have knowingly done this and sold me it, they explained today when i took it back that they were sorry.
I said it was fine and it happens, but they said they couldnt do anything till they had fully tested it, so i said not to worry and they gave me a microSD adaptor to see if it could make any difference and sadly it didnt... ,
I will take it back and let them test it and ill tell them to load lots of data on it and see where it goes xd , thats what happened to me
So i fight on
These memorette microsd are pure garbage. Just google them, you'll see a load of people with problems.
Stick with the legit makers, don't skimp on your data storage.

I am sure it is that but i also think we would have to have the bootloader unlocked to do that too. A better idea would be to just get a bigger microSD card. I am sure a 32 gb class 10 card would be more than enough to hold music and photos.

Class 10 sometimes won't play nice with these phones. The sweet spot is class 6. And yea, maybe someday we will be able to use it but I doubt it. That would mean that after the bootloader is unlocked (if ever) that devs would need to take on the project and many people are already leaving this phone behind.

If he's able to do the labor then he should just find out for himself by doing it. It's not meant to be exchanged or upgradable, but if he thinks he has compatible phone ram off another phone then he should try and be done with it.

That'd be sweet. But as far as labor, you need soldering wire and micro soldering tip with high power magnifier so you can see all the contact points. This process is known as microman, micro management. Kind of a pain. As far as hw goes, I'm sure there is a chip set somewhere you can use. Might have to rewrite code for it to function as max spec and to even allow the programs to run.
I have the a broken Motorola atrix and access to a iomega soldering tech I would like to thank those that helped ill try and let you know

Get some fast class 10 micro SD from Samsung (Their SD are blazing fast)
And download Swapper2, or any swapping app from the market...
Note: Slow SD WILL result in a slower performance

How many others think SD Card slot should be added to Google's minimum hardware requirements for Android?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Google doesn't have minimum hardware requirements on anything about Android which is one of the reasons why its so open but fragmented.
Manufacturers didn't listen to Google anyway when they wanted to add softkeys as seen on the gnexus. GS3? Old layout, capacitive, and single physical button. HOX? New layout but capacitive.
MOTO seems to be listening but probably because Mobility was bought by Google

Hi
Personally I would like an SD slot to be available on all Android devices. I would have loved for the HTC ONE X to have an expandable memory slot as I have had a few HTC devices and always been happy with them. My upgrade is due in a few months and for me anyway that is THE only deciding factor for choosing the Galaxy SIII over the One X. Both in my opinion are very good handsets and certainly do what I would want to do with them. But was gutted to see that there was no expandable slot. Yes, I know in these days 'Cloud services' will cater for most peoples needs, but I dont know why but I have always been wary of such services. Again, yes...I know, I am probably just being paranoid but for me nothing beats a memory card slot. :good:
All the contrary

Can you cite a source for that last snippet of info?
Google have, to my knowledge, never dictated hardware to manufacturers for Android.
Internal memory is only going to get bigger, with 16GB being the minimum, and then a couple of years later 32GB will be the minimum.
OTG will remove the need for the removable feature as you will be able to get card readers to plug into the phone's socket.
With 4G speeds syncing to a cloud will be quick so the security/privacy/data loss through involvement with a toilet risks will be out weighed, or you'll sync to your home PC (something I'd much prefer) rather than through a 3rd party.
While it would be cool, I do not think google would ever do it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The day Google post a minimum system requirements for android phones, that day the user experience will be always fine! :highfive:
I think google will recommend manufacturers not to have ad card slot. Anyway IMO .. OTG is good enough

If you look at the Google nexus devices and look at the Google blog they want to remove SD card slots and deal only with internal and cloud based storage.
