The New Galaxy R i9103 Q&A Section - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

At long last, a Q&A section has been added to this forum! Hopefully this will help to reduce the clutter in the General section.
In the next few days, the moderators will be moving some threads around. Most of the movement will involve taking threads out of General and placing them into Q&A. This is going to be a long process of determining what belongs where, so please do not report these types of threads during this time. It will take some time for everyone to get adjusted to the new section, so the regulars members around here should provide gentle reminders to others to use this section.
I've posted a reminder here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945344
to let everyone know what types of posts belong in General and what belongs in Q&A. Everyone should take a quick minute to read it over.
While we are cleaning up around here, if the members who regularly frequent this forum (RCs in particular) want to make suggestions, I'd appreciate your comments. If there are old or outdated sticky posts or newer posts that should becoming sticky. Also, I'd like some suggestions about what to do with this very long Q&A thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483052
I've closed the thread in favor of having new questions posted as new threads, but does it have good information that it should remain sticky in the Q&A section? Is it mostly outdated material that can fade away?
Post all of your comments, suggestions, gripes, and concerns here.
Thanks!

Much needed! Much appreciated! Thnx a bunch! This will clear up a lot of mess. Contributors will have to be more vigilant now.:good:
EDIT: @kinfauns: I just gave you your 1000th thanks in this thread.:good:

great sign.. shows that our forum is getting more attention.. thank you for the much needed new section..

Oh finally !!
Thank you very much to the Admins, SMODs & MODs for this; specially to Red5, juzz86, siberian tiger & kinfauns. :good:
Cheers !

Thanks Mods and and SMODS...
so finally Galaxy R is gaining attention, traffic too...
we now have two mods to manage the forumm....its grt...!!

No, you shouldnt close this thread!! now i have a small question which is related to one simple issue (Yes i am noob :silly: and i dont knw to solve simple issue on my own, PROBLEM ???? lol)
For that simple issue there is no need to create a NEW THREAD, right ???
so where should i post that,
So, in my view that thread should be opened and stickied as it is now !!!
P.S. ; I have read that instructions post which you have posted above in the OP...
Thanks :good:

Thanks to everyone on this forum for making a successful transition and using the Q&A section for help and troubleshooting threads. I got done reviewing the General posts about a week ago and moved a few hundred threads over into Q&A. I'm very pleasantly surprised at the small number of new posts I've had to move into Q&A. For whatever reason, you guys seem to do a much better job (than some other fora) of using the Q&A section and keeping General free of clutter. :good:
There will always be some misplaced posts from time to time, so please use the "Report Post" button to have one of the moderators move a post if you see one out of place.
Now that the General section is free of most of these question posts, I believe it's time to continue the cleanup and move onto the Development section. Specifically, I believe the guides and howto's are a better fit in General so the Development section can just hold actual development threads... ROMs, tools, utilities, etc. I'll take a look at some of these when I find some free time.
Thanks!

We'll are always here to help you in making our section a better place.
There's one request I would like to make, could you please leave the guides which have information related to development of ROMs / make CWM flashable packages / dev related guides / etc in the Dev section ?
It would be really hard to find the guides in the General section with the number of threads we already have there & more to come in the future.
We do have a thread by Fenix in the General section which lists all such guides which could be made a sticky.
Let's us know your thoughts on the above.
Cheers !

which lead me to wonder if we have bugtracker of some sort(yeah i read threads for i9003 custom roms and noticed the bugs are reported in those threads)
You had to create a NEW THREAD for this?
You could have just posted it at the ICS CM9 or ICS MIUI thread?!
i would if i was allowed to post in dev section ...

Don't be so mean, if there's a qna thread for ics point him to it, no need to tell him off. Its a general thread, I've seen people post threads called 'official off topic thread's with it stickied and 'general thread here!'. I don't know if there is a qna for ics, if I would I would point it to him.

an easy way to do it would be for OP to get the files he wants and start testing, while browsing the forum and commenting appropriately on things they have questions about, etc. since I've heard there's a 10 post minimum before posting in the dev section, I'm sure reading around will help give them an idea how the forum works, and help the apparently unavoidable NOOB FLAME when questions are asked inappropriately. that may be part of the reason for the posting limit, you know
so, cyborg5, why not get those files, install, and read around a bit while taking notes of things you find in testing, and when you reach 10 posts you'll be able to provide feedback in the appropriate place?
thanks.. ive installed this port for 2 weeks now..problems i found were already posted, so to be safe..i didnt repost..and i also found this(tester call in irc)

Just so you know, questions ARE NOT meant to go into the development threads. Those are for bug reports only..NOT QUESTIONS. This is part of the reasoning behind needing 10 posts. It is in the hopes that you will learn these things first. There is a Q&A forum for questions.

Mr. I understand what you mean... maybe Iam write the wrong words.. its not a question what I need to do, its a bug on that room what I installed on my samsung skyrocket... and because have that bug on my phone I need to put a repply so maybe the room developer fix that bug.... however.. thanks for your repply . . .
Was wondering the same question too..
Heya
mee too.
Mods need to close this thread, else it will become another one of those "I want 10 posts, so I'll get them from here" threads...
So just posting in the general section is how you get to the 10 post limit. Is what I understand.

Questions are not posted in the development sub sections of specific device's forums. They are posted in the Q&A sections.

You need to make like 10 posts in non development threads before you can post in the development section.

I too am frustrated by the 10 post rule - I'd be happy to help out answering questions if I knew what I was doing enough to contribute, but I don't. How am I supposed to learn if I can't ask questions? Just doesn't really make sense to me . . .

Guess I assumed this forum wasn't really designed for questions regarding rooting the phone. I pictured it more as a troubleshooting section / more general forum and thought questions regarding rooting a phone were for the developer thread. Perhaps I got my wires crossed

Oh nah Q/A is perfect for all GSIII questions haha I guarantee if you post a new thread about anything that is not your developed rom/mod/kernel in either dev section, you'll be met with a lot of negativity. I'm not even joking. A good tip to know is: when in doubt, post it in the Q/A section. Typically post in a developer thread if you're reporting bugs or helping someone else in that thread similar to what I'm doing right now with you. Only create a new thread in either development section if you developed something and want to share it.

Brad I dont know what made you feel that, and I think I have registered myself to XDA site to get answers for my question and thats the main objective of this site to help other Android users. You may be technically smart with Android and I'm not so I will ask questions and I'm not concerned about the 10 posts or whatever. Secondly I installed PACman ROM but Whats app is not functioning,so I you are a senior member kindly help, it will be appreciated.

Hi,
Please ask your question here.
It is a general Question and Answer thread in the Galaxy R forum. Any of your questions about the Galaxy R should go into its Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum, or into the thread I have indicated.

Hi,
Please try and post into the correct section or at least into the General section for your device. I don't see how the ROM developer will ever find this thread, especially since you don't mention which device it is for. Seeing how you now have your 10 posts and can post into Dev threads, be a little bit careful with posts like this one. In some Development threads it will be OK as you are confirming that a previously broken feature is now fixed, but in other Development threads it may be considered out of bounds -especially if there is a change log indicating the fix. You will have to look at what's being posted, how it is being received and then trust your judgement.
Cheers

[Q] Dual Boot - Using previous Nandroid Backup to Restore 2nd Rom?

Hi XDA,
My first post so I hope I have followed the correct procedures.
I have searched for this and haven't found anything that solves this.
My question is this:
I have a Nandroid backup of my PACMAN ROM on my SDCard (It has everything set perfectly to how I like and runs amazing).
Now I am going to fully wipe device and Dual Boot my device using a TW Rom (not sure which yet) as primary and PACMAN as secondary.
I wanted to know if I could restore my secondary rom (PACMAN) using the backup I have created previously?
If I need to do something specific (updating scripts or such) I am wiling to do so and i am not afraid of getting a bit deeper into this.
I have been following rlorange's thread, chenxiaolongs and Graraks also but nothing seems to address this.
Would it be possible to use rlorange's backup tool before I wipe (creating a 2nd backup of the same rom and its state) then use it to restore my 2nd ROM after flashing/dual booting?
Something tells me I can't but I just cant find enough info on this to answer this myself so I'm hoping you bright sparks could help me?
I hope thats not too n00by and thanks for reading

If you have a i9505, you should post in its Q&A forum, as someone may be able to give you better answers in that forum, due to their experience with such a device. IF you have any other device, you should mention details of it, even though your question is about using a Nandroid backup . posting in general discussions may not be wise IMHO or you can PM the member whose thread you are following or wish to follow for some guidance or doubts that you have.

its only limited in development forums, to reduce spam and already addressed questions, that are found in Q&A forums for your specific device. SO you can always post in any other forum and mostly advised to post in your device specific Q&A forum for best answers
BTW you only have few more posts and post limitations are gone
