So I was using my phone yesterday (battery was pretty low) and it seemed to freeze and turn off. After the power button didn't respond I pulled the battery and tried again, but no luck.
Thinking the battery had just died I connected the charger but again, no life. So I once again pulled the battery, tried to turn it on & nothing...
The solution in the end (found from other posts in XDA) was to leave it on charge for about 30 minutes, then take out the battery/sim, wait another 10 minutes before putting the battery back, connecting the charger and holding the volume up + power button combo.
(Just in case anyone else has this issue).
did this work?

Doubt there is anything else I can do, but thought I'd try anyway.
So after about a whole 3 hours of use, my Transformer just powered off. I tried to power it back on, and it did for about 5 minutes, but would only stay on for about 15 seconds (not even a full boot) and reset again. Now, it doesn't power on at all.
While I was using it I was charging it. It had about 84% battery when it died. I tried holding the power button for 6, 30, even 60 seconds and no results. Tried the power and vol down too.
I have an RMA from ASUS (Is it normal for companies to make you pay for shipping to them? Ugh), but wanted to know if there is anything else I can try before waiting another 2-3 weeks to get one back.
Thanks!
I think I've read of this happening before, leave the TF's battery to go completely flat then recharge it. Nothing to loose by trying it.
Good luck.
I would just keep trying to hit the power button and see if you could get it to work because I feel like doing an RMA will not really fix the issue because it is more of a software issue I feel like, unless it completely died. On the other hand, if you do RMA it, I would not pay for shipping, that is ridiculous.

I thought it was a software issue while it was boot looping, but now it won't power on at all.
Unforunately, it had a HUGE charge on the battery when it died. I can't easily drain the battery because it won't power on at all to use the battery up.
Any suggestions on draining it without powering it on? Thanks again...
These things seem very tricky. Try hitting the power button multiple times, then holding it, and holding it while holding the power down, that works for me.
Some other things you can try is put it on the charger and then try powering it on. Try docking it if you have a station and then plug the dock in and try to power on. Anything could trigger it going back on to be honest because these sleeps of death/shut offs/non responsive units seem to happen at random.
Could be the sleep of death. You can get it to boot usually by holding power for 5 seconds, wait a bit, and then power it on again. Sadly it may be a hardware issue :-(

I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. Any amount of holding the power button down hasn't shown any sign of working.
This is where I wish it had a removable battery. I know about 50% of laptops I work on that don't power on just need the battery taken out, power button pressed, and battery replaced (discharges static electricity).
I had the same problem. I put it on charge for 15 min and then powered it on with it still plugged in. Scared the hell out of me.
It finally powered back up. Just keep trying and cross fingers.

Thanks. I keep trying every 30 minutes or so. Did yours also die while it was fully charged?
Not sure where the battery level was when it died. I thought it had somehow been left on and just drained the battery too much. After a while on charge it came back to life.

Charging
I am sure you guys have noticed - or is mine unique - that when you have the TF switched off and you plug it in it automatically switches on.
So plugging it in whilst it is off actually means you could be draining the battery. You need to switch it off when it is already on charge.
That being said mine stopped charging recently and I found a post somewhere to say to trickle charge it (charge it off the USB on the computer) and then try to charge it again. That worked and it has charged great since. I think that issue is related to the dock.
So try to trickle charge it -see if it will hook up to your PC and see if that will help.

Ah. Unfortunately I think mine is a different issue since it was fully charged when it shut off. Thanks though!
Turns out bestbuy.com received some stock, so I returned mine to Best Buy and re-ordered it. Thanks for the advice, guys! Pretty sure it was something I couldn't fix anyway.
i changed the title since that is not the issue any more. i re-melted the solder on the power button and it stoped the loops but now it just made it super ultra sensitive like its a touch screen button. any ideas?
so my phone just randomly shut off one night and it automatically turns on when i have my battery in and it just stays on the samsung logo for about 2-5 second and sometimes the touch key lights turn on but just turns back off and does the same. when i try to boot into download mode it doesnt go into it, it just show the image of the batter loading with the loading circle for about 5 second then shuts off. The phone its rooted but running stock. any help with be greatly appreciated!
If I searched for something like this I'd probably find info on the power button being stuck.

Already tried that solution, im slowly starting to think it is a hardware issues. there is no water damage at all.
Hey.
So I have the EXACT same problem...
Phone was on CM10 Jellybean (no OC). Randomly shut off and started to bootloop. Phone will start bootloop when battery is plugged in.
1) Put in battery while holding vol+/-
2) Put in battery while holding power vol+/-
3) Put in battery while holding vol+/- and USB plugged in (I believe this is the correct method of getting download mode)
4) Put in battery while holding vol+/- and USB Jig plugged in
5) Put in battery while USB jig plugged in.
I am all out of ideas. When there is a USB jig, the phone DOES get into download mode, only to immedialtly bootloop back into download mode.
Did you Odin or Heimdall back to stock (since you are in download) and see if it still loops?

Do you remember what the power button looked like? I think I am going to pay for this service. People have said they are reliable.

Hey guys, new guy to the nexus forums. My friend gave me his never rooted nexus to try and "Unbrick". Last year his power button stopped working and then he updated to JB. It was fine, power button still didn't work but at least it booted. One day back in December his phone froze so, to reboot, he pulled the battery, as he usually did. IT WOULD NOT BOOT BACK UP! I have soft-bricked a lot of my phones via rooting and stuff but i have never seen this before. It:
a) no vibrate when plugged in/ press and hold power
b) will not boot when plugged in
c) while charging, camera area gets hot (assume that's area where processor lies)
Any ideas guys? is it the circuit board? Bad boot?
Thank you from Me and my friend! .

Might be a stupid suggestion, but just for the heck of it, did you try replacing the battery?
If it still won't power on at all with a new battery, I'd say the silicon is fried.

Hmm thanks for the idea, I don't know where to get a local battery cheap and he all ready moved on. Might just give up. I like it more than my s3 tho

I had a strange experience with my Infuse (4.2.1 Beanstalk) this morning. Battery fully charged, listening to Spotify while driving to work (car charger and headphone-out connected). Suddenly audio stopped streaming even though signal status icon showed full signal. I figured I needed to restart the phone, but hit Power off instead of Reboot. The phone shut down just fine, but absolutely would not turn on. I tried various combinations of removing the battery, removing the sim card, holding the power button, and three-finger salute (mostly not while driving). After about two hours of futzing, the phone decided to turn back on and has worked just fine all afternoon. The power button seems to work just fine; it sleeps and wakes without problem.
What happened?

Just a Noob here with a similar problem. maybe something here may trigger something:

My wife put her phone to charge as usual as soon as there were only 3% left and found it in an hour and a half turned off. now it does not turn on. What had happened? How to turn it on? I put it to charge some more, but nothing changes.
It was 100% stock recently updated to the latest FW via OTA.
What a hell???
What is the charge percentage?

It was 13% before we plugged it in... Now it does not show anything, I cant turn it on. I've tried to charge it a home for 3+ hours, but nothing changed.
First try holding down the power button for 2 seconds. Let go and count to 2 again and re-press the power button for like 30 seconds.

Try holding down the down volume button and power button for a few seconds at the same time and release it and check if u enter the bootloader menu.. If that works then press the Volume up button to confirm the normal power up...
I've tried all combinations, hold power, power + vol down, power + vol up, each up to 20 seconds. They were not able to turn it on in Verizon store as well. Luckily they just replaced it for me.
SO be careful with Droid minis...
Did they plug it in in the store?

They tried as hard as the can but none of them in Verizon store was able to turn it on.
And yes, they tried plugging it to the energy bank and to the wall outlet.
Hopefully by now you have a replacement.

Had a similar problem with my first maxx. After charging all night, unplugged phone and used it for 30 min. Picked it up, pressed power button and nothing. Plugged power cord to phone and moto icon would appear and disappear repeatedly. Plugged in moto factory cable from PC to phone and it booted up. Got a message saying phone would shut down in 10 sec. due to over heating. Either a bad battery causing problems or faulty circuitry.
Got a new phone overnighted.

I don't think you are supposed to be inserting the sim card while the phone is running.
