Here i tell you the first soft brick with JellyBean ROM......
Steps i performed which resulted in soft brick...
1. i was on ICS ardatdat 4.2b6 with BB Rom..
2. flashed JB on it
3. wiped data..fatory reset....after which there was no network....
4. i had renamed the backup folder, and since there was no file manager i was unable to revert back to correct name...
5. i didnt had the pc, so i was unable to revert back the name...and by this tyme even my mmc became unreadable...donno how
6. flash ics nordic through odin.....now it passes galaxy r screen----->samsung splash screen---->stops at samsung screen..
waited for 10-15mins...bt no avail....
what cld be done now ?? to boot the phone
By jb I hope you mean cm10 right?? I have flashed it many times in the past few days and successfully did a nandriod restore too... Didn't face any issues...
What was the issue with renaming the backup??
From my galaxy R
reboot phone & just wait..

1. As karthik said first we need to disable the Mobile data in settings-> more, then after few minutes network will work, its working for all of us...
2. i am not able to understand what you are saying about renamed the backup folder, if you rename also just you can boot into recovery and restore it ...
3. You can download any file manger from Play store, i have downloaded it from playstore and its working fine....
4. please explain us the steps what you have followed because from yesterday i am using JB without any issues....
5. Last one as karthik has compiled the kernel from Sources its free from Brick bug no need to worry....

Cwm recognizes backup/restore folder as
clockworkmod->backup->date->{ all backup files}
I had d convention as
clockworkmod->backup_bak->date->{ all backup files}
Hence cwm cldnt recognize any backup file...
Tried every opt under cwm..as
Restore, advance restore, restore from internal sdcard...
Bt all failed...
Also i didnt had any system/device to rename back to correct convention
Abt file manager, cm10 works nly on wifi..i didnt had any wifi connection in ofc too....so no luck..
Regardin steps i followed are as follows :
1 Was on bb rom..
2 Applied update zip in cwm
3 Wipe cache n dalvik cache...(didnt perform wipe data)
4 Reboot....
5 a lot of fc caused me to perform wipe data thru cwm..
6 after which no n/w

ok if you want to again flash it try to format system buddy..
1. Wipe Data, Dalvick cache.
2. Format system partition.
3. Flash CM10.
4. Flash Gaaps.
this should work because normally i will format the system before every time i flash of CM, believe me you will not go back to ICS once you use it.....

Try it for yourself
Download HERE
Unzip the files & Copy the stock-ics-rooted-debloated-deodex-zipaligned folder to your SDCARD or EMMC
Reboot to CWR
Wipe data/cache
Format /system
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Restore Backup
PLZ NOTE this FULL RESTORE WILL DELETE * from your EMMC pics/music etc.
**THIS WILL PROB NOT WORK from GINGER BREAD, but your welcome to try and let everyone know.
**100% Confirmed and working with AT&T ONLY if you have already did the ODIN ONECLICK ICS LEAK
Shouts to romracer for the deodexed dumps

Weird - I don't have any of the lag issues that other report, but I'll try this.
Does this also have the autocorrect fix?
Of course...the second I go back to GB this gets released.

ON AT&T 100% works if you already used the ICS ODIN Leak.exe or some other variation of the leak. I am using it now. Its pretty zippy and fast
Untested from Gingerbread, prob wont work from GB. But it MIGHT, need some1 to test it
i just cant flash back to GB to test it.. need my phone for work since im ONCALL!
I tried the other CWR backup that was released but i kept getting MD5 sum errors. Im on CM7 right now, will test flash with your CWR backup

@MHX - No MD5 Sum errors with your backup, restored fine. Booted normally (and fairly quickly i might add)
I went Cyanowiz CM7 with UCLA3 Modem -> Your CWR backup using your instructions no special steps.
Confirmed Working: Data & Service, Audio, Calls, Wifi, well... Everything
So we don't flash this correct? We just put it in the root and go to restore backup? Thanks in advance.

And if you wanna install a custom rom then first upgrade to xxkpq also pls tell me your requirements,as in if you want all the features to work or if you are willing to sacrifice camera and wifi tethering and stuff
And also backup using rom manager is diff from titanium backup.
The rom manager backup is a backup of the whole phone in case flashing goes wrong on the other hand titanium backup is used for backing up apps and the apps data data

Try fix permission in cwm, it can help on fc.

Check in System/Apps (not in framework )
If you have got two types of file i.e. *.odex and *.apk then you are not deodexed
If you have only *.apk then you are deodexed.
To upgrade to xxkpq just download xxkpq from the development section and follow the guide(also given in development section)

First of all, BE READY WITH UR FLASHABLE ROM.
It's obvious that you've CWM (i.e. ClockWorkMod) Recovery. So,
1. Go to CWM Recovery.
2. Go to "mounts and storage".
3. Select "format /system".
4. Select "Yes format".
NOTE:- Be **CAREFUL** after formating /system, ur phone can't be turned on. If you tried however or accidently pressed "reboot system now" from CWM main menu after formating /system, you'll end up bricking ur device.
So, Bro!! ***BE CAREFUL***!!!
It's not the same as wiping data or cache or dalvik cache. B'coz, after wiping data/cache/dalvik cache, you can normally switch on ur phone(UNLIKE formatting /system).
Also, After flashing Rom successfully, do this:
1. From CWM main menu, select "wipe data/factory reset" & confirm it.
2. Then select "wipe cache partition" & confirm it.
3. Then goto "advanced" and select "wipe dalvik cache" & confirm it.
4. & Then select "reboot system now"...
It may take 5-10 minutes to boot, so have patience...

I have flashed the rom by creed and it work. The cyanogen rom is not working for me. :crying:
Why is this?
Bro!! If stock based custom roms work fine for U, then Cyanogenmod will also work. It sometime happens for the 1st time when u move from stock to Cyanogenmod.
So, you've a working phone with creeds(stock based) rom... U should TAKE ITS NANDROID BACKUP so that if some mishap happens in future, U can easily restore that.
If U know how to backup/restore, its fine... But if U don't, then do this:-
1. Switch off ur phone & enter in CWM Recovery.
2. From CWM main menu, goto "backup & restore".
3. Select "backup".
NOTE:- It's expected that you've sufficient storage space on ur sd card...
To restore an existing backup, selct "restore" under "backups & restore" menu and then select a desired back up file.
Now, you've a NANDROID BACKUP, you can give a try to various cyanogenmod roms (official or unofficial... depends on you) & if some wrong happens..., u know what to do... right???
For stock firmwares, visit www.samfirmware.com
U can also visit www.viotutorials.com for flashing processes along with video demonstration.:thumbup:

U can keep all ur data and apps after flash

Flash cynus t2 jelly bean(search for cwm flashable link in xda) then flash dark nexus rom... if installation still aborting then reflash custom recovery and then flash custom rom... and as for the gallery not showing data... Just go into settings>apps>mediastorage and clear data.
Edit: I had the same problem

Does not go forward after installing ROM zip
Excited to use your rom.
I have followed the procedure:
wipe data
format system
install rom zip
after that aroma installer starts and asks that "you are about to install 4.2.2 click next"
but it does not allow me to click, nothing works, nothing goes forward.
Pl help.........., previously I was on cangalaxy s4 rom.

Even i was facing the same problem ..all you have to do is enable the gallery in startup applications list( the applications which starts automatically at system reboot)..you can get that auto startups list using applications like system tuner pro, it will solve the problem for sure:good:

Dont do it separately. I assume you are using Titanium backup root. While you restore, restore both APP+DATA at once. This will solve your problem i hope.
