I started downloading the Android 4.1.2 OTA update for the Wifi Xoom last night. Since then, its been stuck on the hardware boot screen (showing the Moto logo). I've tried the hardware reset (hold power and volume up buttons simultaneously) several times, but I can't get past the hardware boot screen and the screen wont shut off.
I'm running stock Android, no root or custom ROM. Any idea what I should do next?
remove the SD card if one is inserted.
If nothing more works, unlock bootloader, root and install a custom ROM... But first perform a backup using adb while on recovery (it can be the stock one)

After installation of ROM phone will not boot. I get stuck on the htc white screen every time. I cant access recovery mode either. Please help is there some way i can restore from my SD card without having access to the phone?

Remove and reinsert the battery. Hold volume down button (first) and power button till you see hboot. You should see the option to get into recovery. Post back with results.
Thank you so much. I had tried entering recovery that way but didnt think about holding down the volume before booting. immediately went to hboot and now doing full restore.
interestingly enough this could have been solved by looking at the guide/ searching.
My Xoom is now bricked after I tried partitioning the SD card with the option in Rom manager. I believe I was on the 3.0.2.5 version and now just reading that it is causing issues to other devices as well. This was unfortunately the latest version available on my Xoom per the app.
I tried everything I found as far as trying to revive it. It doesn't turn on at all. When plugged in, the little white light comes up showing charging but cannot power it at all. I tried holding the volume and power buttons any imaginable ways that I found here and no sign of life.
Anyone know other tricks to make it work again?
time to call moto and do an exchange
Yeah, most bricks are a false alarm but this doesn't sound good at all.

go on the motorola website and submit a repair request. They replaced mine at no charge and shipping was fairly quick
Im trying to install the OTA update located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Every time I try to boot into HBOOT my phone just sits at the HBOOT menu and does nothing...phone is rooted, s-off, and fasboot is disabled yet no matter how many times i have tried my phone doesn't search for PD98IMG.zip (which i renamed the file to, and put on the root of my SD card)
Any ideas?
Make sure its not in a folder and that theres no other zip file on the external SD card.
Try removing the pd98img zip from ur SD card then boot into hboot & see if it even goes through the process of looking for the file. If it does u might want to try & redownload the file, maybe it became corrupted the first time.

no offense taken at all. yep, tried turning it off using the power button and choosing "turn off" then volume down & power to turn it on...stuck at hboot menu.
also tried pulling the battery for 5 minutes and using volume down & power, same result; stuck at hboot menu
I tried booting the phone without the SD card in there (it's the SD card from the box) and I was able to scroll through the options at least but when I hit the power button when HBOOT is selected; still nothing happens.

Hey at least you got it working.
Maybe something happened to your SD during the root process. Could always try formatting the old card and see if that fixes it...at least you would have a back up.

I've read somewhere that mounting and dismounting your sdcard improperly slowly damages it and can cause your bootloader not to read it..

Good evening all?
Ive unlocked my TF300T a year back and had been running Cyogenmod 10.1 on it for months, all worked fine.
As a recovery i had CWM installed and it worked like a charm as well.
A week ago i saw Cyogenmod 10.2 was out there and i wanted to switch the recovery to TWRP (i installed ver 2.6.x.x) and tried the new Cyogenmod.
It sisnt work so i wanted to switch back to 10.1 and CWM.
I dont exactly know what i did but in the end even the vol down and power button menu doesnt work anymore.
The tab turn on now and shows the Asus start screen but doesnt boot up.
Also when i press vol down and the power button it doesnt load the boot menu where i can install a new recovery and install the old Cyogenmod.
When its powered on i cant even turn of the tab, it keeps turning on for a few minutes in the Asus logo screen and than turn off and on again... till the battery is empty.
Did i brick my tablet ?
Are there any ways i can try to get the original software back?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers !
Marty

I think i didn't...
At first i just unlocked the device, installed recovery CWM and after a version (januari 2013) of Cyogenmod 10.1 wich was Android 4.2.2 and kept the Cyogenmod 10.1 up to date every few weeks... Thats all i did till i wanted to install Cyogenmod 10.2 (Android 4.3)
I can't recall updating the bootloader myself, could have been with an Asus update or something but i think i din't do it myself.
CM changed to the updated PITs when Asus updated first.
best solution would be to flash latest stock, boot into it once, flash twrp2 (2.6.0.0 works for me atm) then flash cm10.2
here is my summary

hope it helps
and no, i don't think you need to send it in for repair - it sounds more like broken PIT's so mount and boot points are not being recognized anymore.

More details will be needed before someone can help. What had you done right before it acted up? What rom do you have in there ATM? Can you post a picture or tell what's on the initial screen (the one before the boot animation)? Did you try volume down + power? If you did, what did the screen show?

I rooted my device using the method shown on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228613I
, the ROM is stock and the screen before the animation is normal (white Asus text). I have tried volume down and power and from that screen, I reset my tablet. This didn't solve the issue, before this started, I changed the boot animation and changed fonts. I think it was while restarting after the font change that it stopped booting properly.

I gather by "reset my tablet", you meant you cold booted it by selecting the android icon. This being the case, you can always reflash the stock ROM with fastboot. Depending on whether you had 4.1 or 4.2 bootloader - 4.1 has 4 icons including a USB icon which if clicked, will make the tab enter fastboot/download mode; 4.2 will enter that mode automatically as you press volume down+power - you need to choose the right ROM you want to install. The initial screen should tell you which bootloader on the top left corner. 4.1 matches stock Roms commencing with 10.4.x.xx; 4.2 is Roms with 10.6.x.xx
I've flashed a 4.1 ROM (104220) on a tab with 4.2 bootloader by means of an external SD card without problems. However, to be safe, you should flash whatever version you'd had before the incident. If you already have data on the tab that you care to keep, you shouldn't touch the wipe date icon. If you need a link as to what to do, read this one. Good luck.
Hi all
ive been with Android since inception and have no issues with Mobiles BUT i got the Xoom when it first came out with 3.1 installed, the previous owner who bought it only 1 week previous had Rooted it (clockworkmod) issue is none of the updates work and im stuck on 3.1!!!!
I downloaded the latest 4.1.2 zip to install of the boot menu following : [UPDATE][JB]Stock Android 4.1.2 JZO54K, Root, via CWM Recovery (US Wi-Fi MZ604) - xda-developers but issue is 3.1 dosent support SD card reading so how can i manage to install said Zip file????
PLEASE PLEASE Help ive had enough of 3.1 and feel like im the last one left on it?
Thanks
Steve
Anyone !!!!!
I think the recovery can still see SD CARD. Stick the zip on an SD and insert the SD and boot into recovery. Should be able to flash. Or get the fast boot images and fastboot flash them. Should be able to pull the images from that zip.

What screen? Take a picture or be specific in description. Usually on new installs a wipe data/factory reset is required. Did you do that prior to ROM flash?
Sometimes a good old fashioned reboot works too. Hold power+volume up for a couple second until reboot. Sitting a one screen for 10 minutes generally isn't good.
