Thanks for that! That was a good read, and 4.2 seems like it's going to be pretty damn awesome!

i want 4.1 running bugfree and with good battery performance first .... said to come this month, but i doubt it would be bugfree

Will the one S get 4.2?

Possibly. Not sure. HTC could finally start updating their devices better, or they could lazily sit back like now.

Me too bro, the reason why I bought it is because of the specs.!

I think this where we all as android users should set what we want as a priority before purchasing a device, its simple if we want all the latest updates then go with a nexus device simple as that and if u absolutely love sense then u buy an HTC, same with Samsung, Sony, etc. I really like HTC and they are doing there job at bringing us updates asap but there thing is sense and if its not what u like then why even bother, I myself liked sense enough to get this phone but in the end prefer stock android so that's why I will buy the next nexus phone but I don't want to diss HTC because wether its ics or the unreleased jb the damn phone still works very well in the end

Yea, for those who are eager to run the latest version of Android, get a Nexus device or unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM. If you consider what a massive modification to all layers of Android HTC Sense really is, then you'll realize that it would require way too much effort to keep all devices up to date and that's just how it is. That's the reality of the Android ecosystem, but the great thing is that you have a choice.
I think Sense is ridiculously awful and won't ever run anything that's not based on AOSP, while others may enjoy Sense and may be willing to sacrifice the latest and greatest Android specific features for it.
I'm eager to see if SE Android is implemented in 4.2 as per the rumors. Excited!

I think we will get 4.2 whit cyanogenmod

No you see Google releases versions of Android to all developers and to their Nexus line of devices. Then while this happens the other manufacturers (HTC etc) must take Android 4.2 and modify it to their requirements. This takes some time and hence updates are slower to non-Nexus devices. Android 4.1 is on its way for the One S.

That's what the thanks button is for eh When you say "Customize my ROM" do you mean going from a stock to a different ROM, or customizing an already custom ROM? For a list of custom Android 4.0 ICS or 4.1 JB ROMs check this excellent thread:

Question, is Android 4.2 not meant to be released as KEY Lime Pie, for alphabetical consistency?

Yep. It isn't Lime Pie, don't worry. Similar to why it won't be called Kandy Kane, the spelling needs to work as well. It is Key Lime Pie.

[Q] Wp7 rom?

I was wondering if anyone could make a wp7 rom. I really like UI in wp7 and well I'm using Launcher 7 but a full theme would be nice.
i could use launcher 7 as a base launcher and make a clone of wp7 as a rom. the rom wouldn't nessacarily have all the features of a wp7 phone, maybe some, but i'm sure i could get most of the UI ported over.
If you'd like that then sure, just let me finish the sense & miui clone roms I'm working on.
It shouldn't take that long b/c WP7 is pretty basic.
i wouldnt mind this either, love launcher 7.

I highly doubt it due to kernel differences and driver difference....most of the hardware is difference (LCD, CPU, GPU, etc). So only way it could work is if someone ported the roms from SK4G over to the Evo. Also Sprint's Evo uses a CDMA network while the SK4G uses a GSM network so the data might not work other than wi-fi.
There is already a wp7rom coming With a clone you won't get the full feel true me? My team is working on a big wp7rom (we have a UI Library.) Anyway. You will get more then just the wp7 look. You get never before seen wp7 android apps. Brand new notification center. And much much more.. I'm not trying to still the light from anyone. Just we have been working on it for three months. Well rev you say that they all will be fails, like somehow you are sure that all of the ROMs he is making are going to fail. Maybe you should think a little more before you post, you DON'T know who he is, which means you DON'T know what he is capable of. His sense ROM is very nice, and obviously isn't a fail. How do you know that he isn't going to update his current ROMs just because he is working on other ones? You need to learn how he does his work before you say that he is gonna fail.

So don't stress bro you haven't stolen the light from me because I'm not here on XDA to be a "superstar". I just want to help out and do something that'll help someone, anyone with a SK4G.
So in that case just give me a few more weeks to finish these two roms and here I come to the wp7 rom team

Don't worry bro. I'm not going to work on more than 2 projects at once. I just like having a LITTLE variety while I work on roms instead of looking at the same thing all day, ya know?
So while having two different roms to work on it keeps things somewhat interesting so I won't get bored.
All I was saying earlier is that AFTER I finish what I'm working on I'll gladly work on a WP7 rom seeing as that is what the community wants

Hmmm... Offline dictation, or at least a better voice recognition... I really don;t know why I cant make any of my android phones work the voice recognition as my old blackberry curve. I don't really need the system to get me con cert tickets or how is the weather in Japan... just need something fully integrated that can read and take my messages, dial correctly any phone number I ask for and play the music I ask. Is that sooooo dificult to accomplish??? Or is it the fact that I speak in spanish so I need it to work in spanish while the phone is in english.
The new notification system and Google Now are awesome! I really do hope the devs here can get it on our phones. I think the kernel we are using is fine. I don't think jellybean has a whole new kernel. Mid July, and I shall see if the devs can whip something up

Jelly bean WILL have offline voice control. Also I'm guessing we wikl be able to running because based on what I've read, jelly bean is a more polished and stable version of ICS, including numerous performance and stability fixes. Thus if its a more optimized version of ICS, we should be able to run it.

They did announce that feature pack update, plus on release the device was given its 2GB of ram just for future support of new android versions.
My guess is it will get 4.2.1 official, but that will be the end of OTA. I have a feeling though CM and AOSP roms will be around for a while. Too many people have the US models of the GS3's, and due to the fact MOST of the code is similar between devices, it should not be hard to keep them all going as long as theres someone who cares to work on them.

The development hasn't stop just slowed down. There are 4 new ports and some of the older roms have moved on to 4.2(mainly CM,liquid smooth and slim bean). The other roms are still being updated. There is also a new ROM based on 4.2 called Pure Google. Team Baked is working on a 4.2 based ROM.

Need ROM Suggestion

Hey guys, I'll try to make this brief. I'm not very good with Android, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.
A few months ago, I accidentally let my phone update to 2.2, so I had to wait a while to for a bootloader/root method. A bootloader unlock came first, so I had to do that, but I never ended up installing a custom ROM.
Now, I'm really feeling I need one, but I have no idea where to start. There are just so many. I would like something as close to vanilla android as possible, and I don't necessarily want to be on the bleeding edge.
To be honest, I don't know as much about Android as I would like to, and I guess I want something that "just works."
Can anyone help me out here?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Have a look in the Original Android Development section, that's where you'll find the "vanilla" or AOSP stuff. Asking which ROM is best is against the rules here so I'm not going to suggest anything, other than saying they're pretty much all stable and suitable as a daily driver. It comes down to what you personally like, flash a few and see what works best for you.
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium
There's even a few stock ones with all the att crap removed
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Figure out what features you want or don't want, then just look through the ROM threads to see which ones look good to you. Pick a couple, flash them and try them out.
Its not clear how much you know or don't now about how Android works, and the various features. If you really don't understand the terminology used in the ROM threads, just start reading up by searching on XDA or Google, and figure them out.
If you don't know what the features are, and what they mean, then you don't need a custom ROM. Also, nobody can choose a ROM for you, as everybody has different preferences and uses their phones differently. That's why its best to do some research, so you can make an educated choice on your own.
There are some good "close to stock" ROMS out there, I use one myself. Just remember that if you use an AOSP ROM you *may* also have to downgrade some firmware.
Check very closely with each ROM you try and follow the instructions closely. A bad ROM install is unlikely to brick you but doing it right can avoid a lot of headaches.

And with that, I am off to the distant lands of Google and Wikipedia.

No such thing as "standard" because everybody likes different things. Its like asking if there is a "standard" favorite color.
There are certainly "popular" ROMs. And determining which those are, is pretty easy without making a thread like this. And just because a ROM is popular, does not mean it will be the best choice for you. Again, everybody uses their phone differently and has different preferences. I've had instances in the past, where a lesser know ROM worked much better for me than what "everyone else" seemed to be using.
Sifting through the ROMs is not as daunting as it might appear. Especially if you use my index. You said you wanted vanilla Android, so that excludes the Sense ROMs. Decide whether you want Android 4.1 or 4.2. Exclude the versions of ROMs that have been superceded, or haven't been updated or supported for a while (older ROMs are not necessarily bad, but probably should not be your first choice if you are just getting started flashing ROMs). The number drops to the point where its not that hard to read the threads and see what you like, and pick out a couple to try.
The best way to find a good ROM is process of elimination like red point said. Sense vs aosp. ICS vs jb (4.1 vs. 4.2). And then of course the features. If there was the best ROM, everyone's signature would probably be you the same. But this is not the case.
I look for features (including bugs), screenshots, and then comments. If it looks good test it out for a day or two. If I like it l, keep it. If not, keep going.

Actually, ICS is 4.0.
4.1 is Jellybean
and 4.2 is um. . . Jellybeanier
But yeah, ICS is a choice for some, also. Although I think most XDA folks have moved to JB.

I think you mean 4.1 is more stable than 4.2 roms. Saying you like 4.1 more is kind of stupid because 4.2 just adds more features than 4.1 roms it's just a newer version of Android.

since 4.2 exists only for aosp on the evita and many people prefer sense, it makes perfect sense for some to like 4.1 over 4.2
On a side not. ive run a couple 4.2 roms that are currently stable.
Ya lot of them say stable but I do see a lot of comments saying there are issues with their voltage and lock screens

so dont overclock lol.
I have a belief that instability is in direct relation to ignorance.
I've run a few 4.2 roms that are perfectly stable. Like exad said, instability can be a symptom of ignorance. Currently running Carbon underclocked to 1242mhz and it's perfectly stable.

I'm doing 1.5 and I still get stability and great battery. Tries sense (viper and hatka) for the past few days, but it wasn't for me.

Sir that is not the case. Some people may not like the way Google made little changes int 4.1.1. For example, if you are familiar with mIRC, some people sitll use 6.30, even though there is a 7.31. I know that is a bad example since it doesn't apply here, but I hope you get my analogy.

And that could be user settings. I bet if people leave settings at default or stock, no one will have issues. Or maybe it is certain apps that make small (non-rooted) changes to their phones. You never know the whole story, because a lot of people don't tell.

I was looking this up, and found that MIUI Kitkat builds for the official MIUI phones (ie MI2/MI3) are coming out around spring time ish. It'll be a little while until they come to our phones.
Yes miui will be nice on the n5

I use to like MIUI and what I thought it stood for. Now Its just like of like a big slap in the face using it. Back in the gingerbread days though, man, it really was something else.

On my Droid Incredible and Fascinate back in 2011, it was awesome. I haven't found a stable MIUI rom on any phone since then. It used to be a great option to have, but it's outlived its usefulness at this point.

Aww I do remember my friend (at the time I didn't even have a smart phone) had the droid X and got MIUI on it. I Once I got my Gs2 I dual booted with MIUI v4 but I didn't really like it, I mean it was cool but it lacked a lot of things on different ROMs. Once I tried MIUI v5 on my Nexus 4, there was no going back though, by this time they had developed a lot of new features, and then now with xposed framework being able to run on it, it has all the features of all the other ROMs but also is stable and has unique features of its own. So while it may have stood out more in the past I think people have much more of a reason to switch now.
