Hmmm. Its only ever done it on my s III. Never did it on my og evo or HTC sensation. Maybe its the version of cwm. Is there an updated one? I have version 6.0.1.2 I know there's a touch version but I heard it was buggy.

There is a bug in the RTC software for this phone. Until that but gets fixed (would have to be by Samsung or VZW) this isnt going to change.

Yeah it sucks but just rename your backups after they are done

I believe if you rename the backup then you will have to remake the MD5 for that backup, which isnt really a big deal. Just wanted to toss that out there.

Install rom manager from the market and flash the latest recovery through that. Walla, they're back to normal. Only fixable by Samsung or vzw? Wtf do people get this stuff? This question gets asked every other day and there are STILL people who think its some unsolvable bug.

That's the first I've heard this. I have the latest cwm touch and wrong dates show. Actually I keep seeing people use RM and the recovery isn't flashing right.

That's incorrect. The date issue is still there regardless of how it's flashed in. Some people have reported issues with restoring after renaming. Consensus seams to be if you keep the default cwm assigned name and add your own to the end of it without any spaces, any reported issues dissappear.
Boom! Jellybomb biatch!

annoying for sure. I just rename the moment I am done and booted back up.

TWRP date is also wrong but you can rename them anything you want at time backup.

The guy meant backup FROM RM, it allows you to rename the backup file before it gets created, then reboots into recovery and creates the backup.
please try to search for your problem before posting... I'm typically the last to complain about that, but geez us...

TWRP does everything rom manager does except download roms which have been seen to cause bricks. Backups are named before creation also but already booted into recovery. One stop shop. Easier wipe.

I got to jump on that one of these days to see what all the fuss is about, I'm just loving cwm touch too much! I assume when changing, your existing nandroids will become useless, so would make sense to copy onto your cpu incase they are needed down the road...?

Need stock AT&T firmware

Looking for the stock AT&T update.zip file. I did search, but now luck. Thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
I just need the update.zip file. Thanks anyway.
No problem. That was the closest thing I could find. Best of luck with whatever you are doing.
Are you talking about the update.zip file to root your device? I have that.
No, the stock update.zip file. I am running stock and tried to run the restore and it said the file is missing. I was going to put it back on and try and run it again. I've been having trouble powering on. I can only power on if I have it plugged up.
AT&T is sending me a new phone, but I just wanted to try and restore it for giggles and also to make sure my data is gone.
??
there isnt a stock update.zip........
The phone says that update.zip cannot be found on the sd card when I try to restore. I'm running stock on it. It may be that its just fried. Once it boots up it seems to run ok. I just got the new one from AT&T and going to send the old one in in the morn. Just wanted to try one last fix because everything worked great the past few days, even the gps was working better. I guess I will see how the new one does.

i dont think anyone here has any idea what you are talking about.
the stock phone doesnt have an update.zip on it. reinstall packages in system recovery doesnt mean it reinstalls stuff you removed from the OS. it allows you to flash zip files created for things like clockwork mod recovery and rooting on the 2.1....

There is no update.zip for stock firmware. Reinstall package in recovery mode is for flashing ROM updates and other stuff. If you delete something from stock ROM or messed up, there is no way to get it back or restore other than flash the stock ROM via ODIN3 and load stock firmware file.

I think you're confused with the JH7 update.zip that DG releases. It is not a recovery package zip OP like to have. You have to install CWM in order to flash this zip file.
What the OP doesn't exist. For the Captivate there are two options unless a developer creates another one:
1)Odin One click to I897UCJF6
2)ZIP of th I897UCJH7 firmware

I would advise you use the ODIN 1 Click to resolve any issue your having. I made a video on how to do this in my video archive thread...

[Q] stuck on splash screen, please help!

im new at this please bear with me.
i rooted my shift last week. everything was fine, im not ready to get too crazy into flashing stuff yet (since the risk for bricking is higher with android). i like to take my time read, study, test small things here and there.
today i was browsing the forums and came across the battery icon mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892297
so i downloaded it, i had rom manager installed, and installed the battery icon manager.
i chose the icon i wanted rebooted, it looked ok, so i wanted to try the other icon and loaded that one, phone rebooted and got stuck on the sprint splash screen.
i can boot into the bootloader, not sure what steps i need to take next to restore my os.

Boot in to CWM Recovery go to backup/restore /advanced restore, select restore /system only. Once that is complete clear the cache, reboot. you can then delete your dalvik cache (note: clearing the dalvik cache doesn't work via CWM currently). That's it.
If you didn't make a back up, just re flash the rom. If you were still stock, just flash preludedrew's or nfinitefx's base. You can even still keep your data. Just make sure from now on to back up before doing any mods.

i am curious if there is a way to make a tar file of the stock ROM that we might be able to flash thru Odin if things go wrong? this is what i always did on the Epc 4G. so far CWM seems to be having problems with the sdcard... i have made nandroid backups, but out of curiosity i went to 'restore' and it said it couldn't mount the sd. maybe this will get fixed soon tho.

Getting an S3 next week, how important is it to backup your IMEI?

I see some topics about it. I plan to unlock and root as soon as I get the phone.
Just how important is it to backup this, and anything else I should backup too?
its pretty important.. nothing can go wrong by backing it up. once you root it back it up just in case so your new phone wont be a $600 paperweight!
When you install CWM do a nandroid backup of stock

That's good to hear. I figured I'd make stock backup too. Having stock rooted won't mess it up I'd presume? Is there an app that does it too?
I have flashed all the roms available, including CM10 and had no trouble with IMEI. Always good to backup though. There's a fairly simple process in the CM10 OP.

once rooted and you have installed clockwork mod recovery or TWRP you can make a back up of your whole phone..this will not mess up anything. You can get these two recoveries by using the ez recovery app on google play....... To make a backup in the recovery it will say backup and restore as one of the main options

O my bad you have to be rooted in order to run the operation through a terminal emulator app
If you poke around in development there's one for Mac/Ubuntu (I think Ubuntu anyway) that does root and clockwork recovery from your computer, and that's what I use because it's pretty quick and easy.
If it can ever be important you should make a backup of it though. Since fixing things is always a process, having comprehensive resources for it can trim a lot of time.
Using QPST it only took me like 5 minutes to back mine up. Really simple. Then I put a copy of the file on my HD, on my phone's SD card and one on my Google drive. Now I'm sure I can't lose it. LoL they are small files too. Under 500kb
--Sent from GlaDos baked potato
I’d like to look further into it.
I lost my IMEI and other connection data with a bad flash of a CM10 nightly. I had to do a lot of stuff, including manually typing in my IMEI using QPST and then returning my phone to the Verizon store for them to do some factory-reset style stuff to it before I got connectivity again. (Even though I was bone-stock with a re-locked bootloader they still knew I had rooted and messed with the kernel and other stuff, btw). And its not completely correct, even though I am in my home service area I constantly have the flashing grey triangle that says I am doing international roaming. Pretty weird. So long story short, backup IMEI and everything else BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING.

Yes, there's always a chance you'll loose it. Better to be safe, than sorry. It only takes a couple of minutes to backup and it may save you the hassle of an exchange.
I backed up the IMEI using this method ( QPST) http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/ It doesn't say should i reset the modems to mtp-adb?

CWM or TWRP

I have always used CWM but am wondering if there is an updated version of it that creates a nandroid backup with the proper date name? If not does anyone know if twrp also has this issue?
thanks in advance
You can change the names in rom manager.
Cwm all the way. 6.0.1.2 touch is fast, stable, has not let me down

If you change the names though, don't you have to change them exactly back if you ever go to restore a nandroid? i read that somewhere, something about changing the mdsum when you rename it?
Thanks
Not that I am aware of, just did a restore last week on a custom name. But don't hold me to that, as I do not fully know. Alot of my apps had to be reinstalled due to force closures. Is that a result of renaming?....... Not sure

Twrp has the same issue. It's odd. And from my experience, changing the name in Twrp makes it unable to restore.

That's what I'll do from now on, keep cwm's default name and tag a little custom name behind it.
My question earlier about having to uninstall and reinstall my apps after a restore, any input on that?
A good chunk of them would keep popping up a screen saying: xxxx has stopped suddenly had to force close. Or something on those lines. Why? Restore should return all data/permissions...

Download cwm from market, have it flash the latest official release, and profit. I don't know why people suddenly have an obsession with random cwm and twrp versions flashed through whatever.
No ez recovery here my friend.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
It's mostly just a matter of preference. I like CWM Touch more than TWRP just based on feel. However, AFAIK there isn't a version of CWM for our phone with working ADB. Which means, if your flash goes awry you have to jump through hoops to fix it (pulling your SD card to put files on it, or restoring a nandroid). TWRP doesn't have ADB either, and USB mounting appears to be broken, but at least it has a built in file manager and (more importantly) terminal. For this reason, I'm currently using TWRP, but as soon as I can find a version of CWM Touch with working ADB I'm switching back to that.
On a side note, you can definitely rename backups in CWM and TWRP, as long as you avoid certain characters. For example, changing the name of a backup in CWM to something with a space in it will cause the MD5 check to fail when trying to restore. I'm not sure which other characters cause problems, but I always rename mine with letters, underscores, and numbers and can restore without issue.
I prefer twrp because it looks a lot nicer than cwm... it more or less personal preference
