cannot install apps, always show "free up some space" - Asus Transformer TF700

spec...
4.1.1 rooted with 40 apps install use APEX launcher with magnetic theme
49 GB free on SD0
29 GB free on SD1 (sanddisk 32GB class 10)
RAM use around 600 - 650 MB all the time
today i try to install chaos ring and paper wars (games) into my TF700 but it's always show "...couldn't be installed. Free up some space and try again"
how can i do?

Try a different SD card or put it into a PC and reformat it. The infinty has problems with some formats. Also, are you trying to install it to the SD on the dock? If so, I am not sure that is possible. You might be able to move it to SD, but I haven't tried to the dock SD. Here is some more info on SD cards: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803084

Rainbow 6 needs more memory

So I bought 3 games on the Gameloft site because I wanted to take advantage of the buy 1 get 1 free deal. All my games except one didn't install correctly. It was Spiderman.
I downloaded and installed Spiderman, but when I go to launch it, it says that the game needs to download extra files. When I click yes the loading status comes on for a second and then I get an error.
Anyway I called Gameloft customer service and having tried some solutions, spiderman still would not download the extra files to initialize.
The next solution was to offer me another game, and I asked if I could get Rainbow 6 Vanguard. They texted me the link to download, and after having downloaded and installed, at the same point right after the Gameloft insignia, it says that I don't have enough external memory and to free space by deleting files.
I tried deleting as many files as I could from my 2 GB memory card and even though it says I have 2 GB available on the stock settings, within Elixir it says that my external memory has only 451 MB available.
I went to get me an 8 GB memory card hoping this would solve the problem, and still the stock settings from home menu would show I had 8 GB free, but in Elixir the external memory would still be at 400 something MBs available.
Does anyone know how to free up memory so I can run Rainbow 6 Vanguard?
Also does anyone know what's going on with Spiderman, and why I can't download the extra files that needs to be downloaded to initialize the game?
Oh and after I called Gameloft back to tell them Rainbow 6 wasn't working they let me choose another game and I got Avatar which installed fine.
I still get to keep Spiderman and Rainbow 6 for free, I just need to find a way to get them to run. Any help I'd appreciate. Thanks.
All gameloft games install on the phones internal memory they dont seem to install on the sd card. make sure you have enough internal phone memory for the games to install properly. You kill off all of the phones internal 8 gigs then your out of luck free up some internal space!
Just a shot in the dark and I could be way off base. But by chance are you sure the "External" memory you are referring to isn't the interal SD for the phone and not your actual swappable SD that you installed? If you are consistently seeing 400MB then It sounds like you've ran out of space on the interal SD storage. You should try patching your Gameloft games to run off of your 8GB SD if you haven't already. It will give you back space on the interal memory to download the rest of the files. Gameloft games can be pretty large.
I found this out the hard way when I got a little too happy with their B1G1 myself hehe. 6 games too happy and 0 space on the interal memory until I found the patch in the Optimus 2X forums to run the game off of the _External SD.
there is a workaround in the themes and apps section that lets you install gameloft games directly to your sd card.

Thanks for the response guys. I'm not sure where it's being installed, if it's on the internal or external memory, but when I move whatever applications that can be moved over to the external SD card and then try and run Rainbow 6 the amount of memory to be freed becomes higher from what was previously being asked, say from 450 MB needed to be free to 540 MB that needs to be free now.
So I'm thinking that the apps that I moved over to the external memory took up more space and that's why the number to be freed has gone up. I don't know.
I've also tried uninstalling every game that I bought hoping that it would free up memory and then I could run just that one game, Rainbow 6, but still I get the not enough space on memory card error and it tells me to delete a certain amount, right now after having reinstalled all my games along with Avatar, it's saying free up 728 MBs.
Anyway can you post a link to that patch you're talking about that's found on the Optimus 2x forums? I really wanna try this game, looks awesome.
On another note has anyone tried Spiderman on their G2x? Or are both Spiderman and Rainbow 6 incompatible with G2x?
jeffreynew23 post the link above your reply. It will tell you what to download and how to move Gameloft data to your swappable SD card to free up space on the internal SD and still play them. I moved 4 of my gameloft games to my external SD. You should move what you already have installed and working first because you will need the internal storage to first download the Game data before you patch the installer and move the files to the External storage.
Because the G2X has internal SD storage along with an External SD slot it can be confusing. By default, the internal SD storage is where your files download too. When you use the 2.2 builtin App2SD function that is also where the files go. The best way to see your interal vs external is to plug it into your PC. When you turn mass USB storage on you will get 2 USB Storage devices (instead one) which will be the Internal SD and your External SD.
by default... your gameloft files will install to the g2x internal memeory.. NOT your memory card.
HOWEVER.. a frriendly member of the xda forums has discovered a hack that will mod your gameloft apks to install to your external sd card.

Now.. to solve your 2gb sd card issue... i just so happen to own 3 8gb cards.. i only use 2... which means i have 1 lying around.... if you're interested in buying it off me for a very reasonable price PM me. OR... they're dirt cheap all over the net. if you're buying one.. I'd actually suggest you part with the $20 or so it would cost to get a 16gb... which is what i'll be doing very soon.. then I'll have TWO 8gb cards for your consideration.... LOL
Oh thanks again guys, but I've already read that and it seems complicated and tedious, also it doesn't seem stable and I don't wanna brick my phone since I'm still noob at modifying phone files and hacking.
Oh btate I also tried buying a 8 GB card yesterday to test to see if I could get more free memory that way and no go with Rainbow 6 or Spiderman, although on the LG Optimus 2x forums I see users of that model are playing Spiderman, so I'm not sure why I can't download the extra files?
Also I think it's those particular games that has errors because I just downloaded and installed Galaxy on Fire and it did ask me to download the additional files of I believe 580 something MBs and it installed fine along with Dungeon Defender.
One more thing though, I noticed when I uninstall the games then reinstall them they no longer need to download the extra files. Are they somehow left on your phone even after you uninstall the games taking up precious space and leaving traces of files?
Finally, if anyone wants to download a free movie here's a code that came with the micro SD card I bought. It's a free promo that came with the purchase and a 1 time use, so whoever wants to and does it first you score.
Just go to http://www1.movie-promo.com/PNY-US and then follow instructions and enter this code MZRJ5QR2Y5V9TNW5

[Q] Automatically download apps to Internal SD

I just did a hard reset of my Infuse. I'm redownloading all of my apps from my Google account right now. But they're downloading to my 2gig SD card and NOT the 16 gig internal. and when i use app2sD it transfers them to the 2 gig internal phone storage instead of the 16 gig!
Is there a way to make apps automatically download to the 16 gig built in storage?
:O
This was asked and discussed yesterday. Hope this helps.:

[Q] Not enough space to install app yet 18gb free on sd card

Not enough space to download needed files (300MB) for installed application (10MB) (tried like 4 apps same problem).
Status
SD Crad
Total 30 GB
Available 18 GB
Phone Memory
Total 5 GB
Available 196 MB
Internal Phone Storage
Available 1 GB
I don't understand why cant this data be downloaded to SD Card, app does not support it i guess.
I tried move app to SD card it works but app is just 10MB and when i start app it try to download needed files to phone memory.
Is there some way/app to force app to use SD Card for storage.
Or is there way to expand phone memory?
Or how can i know what on my phone memory taking up space i am sure i haevn't installed even up to 1gb worth of apps.
Rooted Stock Android 2.3
when you install apps it goes into the INTERNAL memory
it doesn't care how much free space is in your SD card
here's some good info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349648
and here's a work around to solve the problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343187

Moving to Q&A
As mentioned above, its install on on-board memory. There was perhaps an app called install2sd or move2sd or something like that perhaps which you could use.
I was getting this same issue today when installing modern combat 3. I have 10gb left on my amaze 4g internal and yet not enough space for 1gb
Seems like installing Whitehawkx ROM eliminated this problem i dont even see system partition anymore in settings.
Sometimes this happens to me when I know I have space as well. I either end up trying to delete something and retrying the install, or just retrying the install and it works. Sometimes the phone is strange...but I'm sure this isn't a lot of help.
perhaps the phone doesn't support high capacity micro SD Cards therefore it does not recognise how much space the card has got
I have this problem too and i have resolved in some cases with delete market cache and restart the device or using a Market fixer App like Titanium backup that have a Market Doctor function

Google locked stuff down and you can't run apps from external storage by default. IIRC it has to do with the multi-user profile stuff, the external SD is now emulated storage instead of being seen as a normal physical storage device.
That said, you can work around it with apps like link2sd or foldermount, but you will need root access to use these.

I believe the Amazon Fire 7 can take a 64gb card, but if you mod it...you have to jump through a hoop or two to get apps over to it.

Not at all. Link2SD if rooted works perfectly. Is that what you meant by "mod it"?
Hmmm when I tried link2sd it looked like you had to move the apps individually to the sd card....maybe I just don't know how to use it

There are many apps (Google, anything with a widget, etc) that shouldn't be moved to external. But if you really need to bulk move, there's an option in the three-dot menu for "multi-select" which should work.
Also, quote next time!

I understand how the apps work and no I was not saying there should be a bulk tool.
I was merely informing the person asking the question that there are hoops you have to jump through to get the apps onto the SD card.
You can't change a setting that says "install apps on sd card".
By saying "jumping through a hoop" I didn't mean to make it sound like it was a devastating or hard task (Sorry for this).
I apologize if I said something wrong or mislead anyone.
Currently the Nexus is the easiest rom to load on a Fire 7 with firmware ver 5.1.2. I loaded the Nexus rom on my Fire 7 and installed Link2sd in order to more fully use the 32gb, class 10 micro sd card that I have installed..
Boot times with the Nova rom are about 45 seconds to a minute without the sd card installed and linked to Link2sd. After installing Link2sd, the first boot after linking about 100 apps took 3 minutes. Later boots took about 90 seconds. So linking apps to the sd card does increase boot time on the tablet. Those times are for a cold start, from pushing the power button to being able to open the lock screen.
ADDENDUM: Well, after a couple of days of use, boot times are back to 60 seconds from a cold boot. Link2sd must have sorted things out. Wow.
According to the kindle fire wiki page, the fire 7 can support up to 128gb sdxc but there's no source of reference so take it with a grain of salt. As for sd-cards: if you live near Frys get on their mailing/promo code list because they're always on sale. Right now is a 32gb samsung for $10, a 16gb pny for $4, and a 64gb kingston for $16 (All with promo codes), and that's just since today. With 8gb of internal storage, moving apps to the sd-card is kinda redundant.
HOW TO CONFIGURE SD CARD TO USE LINK2SD APP ON ROOTED FIRE 7
The Nexus is a great rom for the Fire 7 with 5.1.2 firmware. I have rooted 3 in the last week with RootJunky's Supertool.
Then using FlashFire v0.31, I put the latest Nexus rom on them. After the learning curve on the first one, the next two had the Nexus rom installed with no problem whatsoever.
With the Nexus rom installed, I then added Link2sd to recover 3.5gb of internal storage, linking apps to the sd card. I have about 120 apps loaded. Before using Link2sd there was about 500mb of free internal space on my Fire 7 with a Nexus rom. (with no apps loaded free space was about 5gb with the Nexus rom). After loading Link2sd and linking the apps to the sd card, there is 3.5gb of free internal space on my Fire 7. About 4gb of space on the sd card ext4 partition is being used by apps, currently.
I am using Linux Mint, so I used the linux program Gparted to partition a 32gb micro sd card for Link2sd to use.
Link2sd uses a linux ext4 partition on the sd card to place and link apps to. The other half of the sd card is partitioned as a Fat32 format, for MP3, video, ebook, pictures storage.
Here is how to partition a 32gb micro sd card using the linux program Gparted. Use some type of micro sd adapter to connect the micro sd card to your linux pc. My Dell laptop has a built in sd slot, so it only needed and sd to micro sd adapter.
First delete the existing partition on the micro sd card. Then create a Fat32,. Primary partition, that takes 1/2 of the space on the micro sd card. Format the Fat32 partition as Fat32.
Next create a linux ext4, Primary partition, using the other 1/2 of the space on the micro sd card. Format the ext4 partition as ext4. The micro sd card is now ready for use by the Link2sd app.
This can all be done in Gparted on a linux PC with a micro SD card adapter. There are also free Windows programs that will allow you to do the same functions described above on your Windows 7 or 10 pc..
Insert the micro SD card into the Fire 7 with a Nexus rom and Link2sd installed.
Start Link2sd and point it at the ext4 partition on the sd card when it asks and you are set to link apps to the sd card.
You can probably partition 64gb and 128gb sd cards in the same way, although I haven't tried. The Fire 7 is suppose to be able to accept up to a 128gb micro SD card.
