whatsapp messages delayed only on my home wifi - General Questions and Answers

hello im having a big probelm and need help!
i tried many things to do and nothing works.
Let me explain all the things I've learned. First of all, the problem only occurs on my home wireless network and not at other locations. Sometimes whem someone wants to send me a message I get it delayied between two to 30 minutes. This does not happen when I'm a regular Internet connection. In addition,when i open the app it takes it about 30 seconds to connect and to start sending the messages i tayped message (message waiting with a form of alarm).
I checked the problem in six different phones and it occurs on evrey android that i tried (S2 S3), but not on iphones.
I redefined the home network, I changed my router and modem and still nothing has changed (but not the companies that give me this servises)
All Android-based mobile I use experienced this problem so there is no issue with the device itself or the application download.

are u done try for direfent phone a android phone..

Given the scenario you have given;-
1) Your phone works fine for WhatsApp everywhere else
2) Other phones have problems with WhatsApp at your home
3) You've changed the network, router and modem
There is only one possible cause - your ISP must be throttling the WhatsApp data stream for some reason.

You didn't say what happens if you use your device on a different wifi network.

I took that to mean it worked fine on other WiFi networks. Maybe I shouldn't have made that assumption.

If all the other statements are correct then the only thing left which could cause the problem is his ISP - whether it is deliberate throttling or not is a different matter.

i changed the company, which is my isp, to another one yestarday - didnt work
the thing is that i noticed that it is not only whatsapp that delayed, but evrey app - facebook email.......
so the problem is not specific with whatsapp, but the all push serives
on over networks he works fine, when i had an iphone (until 3 weeks ago) this never happend
i dont know what to d' and im geting crazyyyyyy

no only at my homenetwork

It's clearly a networking issue, and my prime suspect is your router's settings.
Do this for a trial: Completely erase all settings in your router (hold down the reset button for 10 seconds, or whatever). Then do just the bare minimum setup in the router's settings, no password, no IP reservation, no port forwarding, no nothing. Then, see if the problem persists.

Yeah, something's fishy. I'm guessing he swapped his physical router for another one, but set up all kinds of routing features which are messing with his phone.
If he comes back and says he's only got 1 computer and 1 phone, and never changed any settings but the SSID and added WPA, then I'm out of ideas.

first of all i didnt do any configuring with the router exepat a pasword
at first i used what the company calles a HOTBOks (the name of the internet company is hot) it is a a device which is a phone line + modem + router
i thougt maybe the problem came from there, so i canceld the built in wiifii any did it "private" by conacting to a EDIMAX router - only put the CD install ps and thats it - didnt work
i changed the ISP for my home - still didnt work....
at my gf house, she has the same hotbok and no problems whatsoever.....

Take your hotboks or router to your girlfriend's house, and see if your phone works there. If not, then the problem is in your house/router.

i dont think it is posibble to do that......
i have no idea what to do - only going back to the very limited world of iphone bahhhh

My money's on your gateway/router being the source of the problem.

[APP]Quick Wifi Switcher (now with widgets and Eclair support)

Quick WiFi Switcher is an app to quickly switch between your (configured) APs.
This is useful, when you're in an area where more than one configured AP is available. Sometimes Android decides to switch between them for different (unknown to me) reasons. Reconnection to the AP of your choice is now fewer clicks away than through the settings.
You start it by long-pressing your search button, or via shortcut.
Info shown on top:
Current SSID
Current IP
Current Signal (bar and RSSI)
In the selection list you have the following info:

Encryption settings
Configuration state (Green -> configured, Red -> unconfigured)

A network in range has a signal level icon
If the network is the current one, the text will be gray, else red

I would really love tasker integration. I have 2 wireless networks at home, a public one, and a backup one. I have to remember to switch ssid at night so the phone can do it's rsync thing. Programatically selecting the right said at the right time would be hugely beneficial.

What do you think about checking every configurable seconds if a better known Wifi is available and switch then automatically?
Have 2 routers at home, android does not switch automatically even if its the same ssid. Tried with different ssid too, android doesnt switch. You have to manually reconnect, then it takes the better one.
just DL'ed your apk-file, upon install, it says (in details view of app manager): Could not open as apk file.
When I click your QR code link in the topic, there's nothing there either...

Nice app..just what I was looking for. As for my two cents, I think it would be great to create widgets assigned to particular ssids that can be shown on the home screen. This would prove to be a quick way to select the ssids.

This is the feature I intended to implement, but for the beginning I chose the manual approach. Surely will be done...

Did you try to d/l from my site? I just downloaded and everything was fine. The QR-Code is not from me, but the new killer feature of xda. Please report if d/l from my site worked. We'll have to find another way if it does not. BTW I sometimes face the issue that I'm not able to open apk's from the browser download notification, but only from a file explorer (but that may be my ROM). Did not find out a pattern in this though.

I have 2 routers at home too and I can be sitting 2 feet from one but my phone still hangs on to the weaker of the two.
As mentioned above it would be great if it could be configured to switch to the strongest authorised access point automatically.

First issue I noticed was that as soon as I installed it I couldn't access any of my access points in the house.
It was finding them but wouldn't connect even if was sitting right beside it.
The next problem I had was constant forced closures. Almost every app that I opened would force close.
Now I understand that both of these could[/c] be rom issues, since this is a new revision, but seeing as both happened right after installing your app I suspect it's not.
Both of these issues happened as soon as I used you app.

I tried to download from your site, but get the same issue.
I downloaded directly from my Android browser and once from my computer and transferred to the phone.
I'm on stock 2.1 ROM (rooted)

Wow, that sounds bad. Could you send me a logcat of when this happens. I can't really imagine any function of the app cause such trouble, but I will look into it, why it would not connect.
The force closes cannot come from the app, since it does nothing to the system aside scanning wifi APs and connecting to them. Maybe it's really ROM related.

Second, the app has a min sdk level of 8, so Froyo is required, will update first post to reflect that. I 'll see if I can get it running on Eclair.

I'm using an Xperia X10, I suspected that it would be due to OS compatibility.
That's why I asked in my first reply.

OK, for some reason the app seems top have changed my wireless security on the phone to WPA instead of WEP, so the phone was trying to connect with the wrong security protocol.
Managed to sort that out pretty easily once I knew what was wrong.
I still had terrible problems with FCing apps so resorted to reflashing my rom.
I'm going to give it another try and if I encounter any issues I'll let you know what happens and post a log.
OK, here is a little update.
Since I reflashed my rom and reinstalled the app it has worked fine.
Only 1 minor bug but it wan't a problem.
On a few occasions when I used it yesterday, rather than opening the app GUI when pressed, it took me straight to the android wifi configuration page.
It only happened on a few occasions and hasn't happened at all today but I thought that you should know. Didn't bother me but someone will surely have issues with it.
Anyway, thanks for a great addition to my Desire S

Good to hear your Rom is working correctly again.
For the error you got: Did you start the app via search key? I could imagine since the desire s has no hardware buttons you accidently selected an unknown AP, immediately after the app started.
Would you be so kind and try and verify that?

No, I have it on my home page so that if I need to change AP I just press my home button to get to it.
My wifi only picks up my 2 APs and none of my neighbours so no chance of selecting an unknown AP.
As I said it only happened a few times and hasn't happened since. It's working great now.
I don't know if, because I let my phone fully discharge yesterday after it happened, that it may have reset the app. A sort of reboot.
It has been working fine since though.
I've yet to try it with public wifi but should get a chance at the weekend so will post my results for you.

[Q] Enable Tethering Tmobile One S

I just got the One S, I'm trying to use the tethering function but when I connect a device it forwards me to a Smartphone Mobile Hotspot Screen and a link to buy the service. I tried uninstallen the Mobile Hotspot app but its still shows the same ****. Does anyone know what to do to enable tethering on a One S from T mobile?
I think you need to add the $15 tethering package from T-Mobile.
I can connect my G2x without it but not my laptop.

Currently the only way I know of to get tethering working without paying for it is to root the phone. Then download wifi tethering for root users. Goto setting and set the device to "Generic ICS" and enable routing fix.

Have you rooted?
While I haven't used wifi tether for root, I have successfully used Open Garden WiFi Tether and with my root privileges it works great.

I assure you it works. My current rom is just a rooted TMOUS build. This screen shot is my touchpad tethered to the One S as of a few minutes ago.

I'm on the $20 preferred android data plan which doesn't allow tethering. I can provide a screen shot of that also if you would like.
Try it with or without the routing fix.

I suspect the phone requires infrastructure mode for wireless whereas the app is providing a peer to peer connection.
Has anyone tried the non-rooted route for tethering?

This thread says changing the APN will work for the Amaze. I would think it would work for the One S but I don't have it to try that yet. Anyone want to test this method and see if it works?

Roundabout
While I don't understand the technical aspects of tethering a phone, I stumbled upon it when I installed CM7 on my HTC Glacier. Since it was located in the settings area of the phone, I assume that it was the official implementation by Google which was removed via carrier and put back by the great folks at CM. While it may seem the most tedious, if you can find a custom ROM that supports it out of the box then it'll be free (in regards that your carrier won't charge an additional fee as long as you stay within your original data allotment) and it'll probably be the most elegant and stable solution.
Also of note, is that if you tether the round about way, it might work for awhile, but eventually you'll start getting redirected to a T-Mobile page to sign up for a tethering service. You need to change the user agent string in your browser to show that you're using a phone.

I think the microSIM APN section is locked. I would love if someone who understands the new SIM can explain.
I have the Amaze and was able to edit the APN's on it. But not on this One S and the new Micro SIM.
Don't think it has anything to do with the micro sim. My micro sim is just my old sim cut down.

I'm on the 20 dollar android prefered plan and changing the apn allows me to tether for free. I've created a new apn named tether and entered these values. epc.tmobile.com and nothing else filled in.

None of the above is working for me..I have my phone rooted..I have tried Open Garden, wifi teather for root, Barnacle...nothing.. my mac sees the AP but connects and I cannot go to any sites...anyone having any success, please post what you did.

This isn't working for me, both stock APNs were already set to epc.tmobile.com and I still get the redirect to purchase the $14.99 addon. I don't understand this because my previous Defy and HD2 had no problem sharing thier connection using stock apps on non rooted roms and my data plan wasn't changed when I got the One S. (I'm on the $20 2gb unlimited plus plan).
Figures that this would pop up after they bought my old phone. Given that they claim not to be able to return it, all they can do to put me back to where I was is setup the tethering addon with a corresponding monthly credit. Tech support opens in 3 hours, though I doubt I'll have much luck without loudly complaining at one of their busier corporate stores.

smartwatch 2 bluetooth connection problem

Hi please can someone help or has anyone came across a simular problem? I received my sw2 yesterday and followed all the installation procedures and upgrades to relevant software on my Sony xperia z1. All that happens now is the watch connects and disconnects every 10 seconds and will not stay connected for long periods of time. All the apps have uploaded to the watch emails Facebook etc but even those only work briefly until the bluetooth disconnects.
I have gone through all the settings on the phone and watch so am left thinking that there must be something wrong with either the phone or watch.

I've had mine for 2 weeks and I've not had any problems. Are you running a custom ROM? Does bluetooth work on it if you are? Have connected anything else bluetooth to your phone?

Hey,
Received my smartwatch 2 about a week ago, I rooted my phone shortly after that. 4 days later my sw2 starts running the same issue.
I believe it can only be one of 3 things:
-Software upgrade on the watch that currupted the bluetooth connection
-Rooting affected my watch connection to the phone
- I had installed facebook, wich now became almost impossible to uninstal due to the short period of time that i can maintain the watch connected.
If anyone has any solutions i would appreciate the help.

Thanks for the tip had tried that before. Didn't work. Although I have now fixed the issue.
The problem with the smartwatch is that the apps are stored in your phone, but the notifications are not streamed to the watch but actually stored there. this causes the memory of the watch to be full and disconnect the watch from the phone (therefore the constant come out).
So to fix the issue:
- Disconnect your phones bluetooth
- Access the smartwatch app, and on FB and Twitter apps log out.
-reconect the bluetooth and quickly clear the history of all apps in the watch.
- You can log back into FB and Twitter but restrict the notifications to the minimum possible (e.g. when written on your wall, your idols tweets and your crush/loved/best-friend posts)
Every Friday remember to clear the history of your watches apps, to avoid this issue.

I did everything i read in this particular post. But nothing seems to work. Or maybe i am doing it wrong. But i cant find what is the problem.
Still facing connection issues with my z1
My son runs a new SW2 with a Samsung Galaxy Express and is experiencing frequent disconnects. But the SW2 app in the phone says it's connected. Turning Bluetooth off an on again makes the watch connect again. The watch is new and not filled up with notifications. The phone is all stock touchwiz and Android 4.1.2. Thanks for any help!

For those who are having the bluetooth connection issues, although the issue is not known completely (some say it is due to low watch memory issue and others say it is due to power management apks within high end gadgets resulting in switching the bluetooth connection off for every few seconds), there seems to be a fix and when I followed it, it is working perfectly fine. So the trick is
1. Find the Bluetooth Auto Connect free apk in the play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect) or from http://www.appsapk.com/bluetooth-auto-connect/
2. Install it and give sw2 a priority. Vola ! your problem resolves.
What this app does simply is to cling on to the bluetooth connected devices and for any reason they disconnect, this app will try to reconnect again immediately. This apk has a feature to disable bluetooth connection automatically after xx minutes of retries, which is awesome. SInce I installed this apk, I did not face any issues with it.

Has anyone found a fix for this that really works. Got my ssw 2 yesterday. Worked fantastic without a problem until I went to bed turned my phone and smartwatch off to charge while I slept woke up and now it disconnects and connects every few seconds .If I can't fix the problem then will be taking it back to the shop it came from as pointless having it.. I've tried everything I can think of. Reset watch and phone. Cleared all app off and started again. Even tried the Bluetooth apps but still doing it

I purchased my smartwatch 2 about a month ago, and use it with my Sony Xperia S. About a week ago I started to experience frequent disconnects. Then I tried to figure out what the problem was (obviously!). Then I started to realize that it only disconnected when I played online games. When I open the PlayStation app to remote play with my PS3 or play BTD battles it would disconnect. So I think the excessive amount of radiation coming to and from my phone over Wi-Fi and 3G gsm cell connection is the culprit. It is interesting to see that even new small Bluetooth electronics have the same problem. For example; Sony's new wireless earbuds WF-1000x constantly connect and disconnect in crowded areas where there are is a lot of wireless activity. Sony claims to have fixed the problem with firmware updates....... I'm not an engineer, but I think this is probably just something we have to live with. At least until the smartwatch 4 comes out :angel:

Solution A :
1- Goto your modem router configuration, type in your browser

input your username and password of your modem, defaults are :
username : admin

if not works, read your modem's manual book. or check the behind info's label of your modem.
2- goto "Access Management" , and select the "Filter" tab.
do this settings:
Filter Type Selection = URL Filter
Active = Yes
URL Index = 1
URL = http://clients3.google.com/
3- select "Save" button and done.
your network will be fine! :good:

Solution B , for who cant access to Modem settings, like free wifi services.
All actions will be done from your device.
1- goto Settings > WiFi settings
2- long-press on Connection
3- Select "Modify network config"
4- check the "Show advanced options" tick.
5- select proxy settings to Manual
6- proxy host name , input the value from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.225
7- Proxy port = input one of them "8080" , "3128" , "80"
8- press the "Save".
9- turn wifi off and the On, you will not see the message ""Sign into Wi-Fi network"
10-now repeat the steps from 1 ~ 4
11- and revert back the proxy settings to "None", its Done.
12- you will be fine with this network.

i started to face this problem when i upgraded my samsung s3 to android 4.3
but the problem is not available on my nexus 5 4.4.1 -> 4.4.4
note: both phones work on the same connection
so i think it might be a samsung touchwiz problem
solution B same like doin on the adblock.. whether i set proxy under wifi, there will be no connection to play store or browser..
proxy host name: localhost or 192.168.1.xxx
port 2020 or 8080

Sure that will also block access to clients3.google.com.
If you use AdAway you can also add it to the blacklist.
Proper way to fix this would be to make an exposed module to prevent the framework from performing connectivity checks. By blocking clients3.google.com, you might stand a chance of blocking core Google services.

I searched this a few months ago and found that the update in android was doing this a lot, my htc one m7, note 2, and galaxy tab 7 were all having constant drops even while surfing the web it would suddenly dip while going to a site. It started with checking my netgear wndr900 and found many having problems with various versions of netgear routers and android devices with the kit Kat update, so I bought a linksys wrt1900, and the constant drops have become not quit as constant. I was still using a netgear device at work with constant drops. It has something to do with the google api is something I read somewhere else (can't recall where) as my laptop and both my ipads went affected.
Am currently running an unofficial release of a Sprint update to 4.4.3 and it still has dropping issues.

Yes, all low cost routers have these drops since something android side break things while using wpa, wpa2... encription! If you set simple VEP encription on your router wifi your problem is solved!

WEP encryption can be cracked in less than 1 hour, i would not recommend it

next go to block sites, paste clients3.google.com on Type keyword or domain name here:

Should be safe to set it on blocklist in your Router.
This is one of the biggest problem I had, I always blamed my phone for dropping wifi.
Now I've switched to D-link router from Tp-link and wifi drop issue doesn't exist anymore but I do have a different issue, battery drain.
It is definitely related to the router since it doesn't happen on other routers.
The problem is that router seems to keep the phone awake by pinging it constantly, which results in kernel wakelocks named 'EventX-xxxx'.
I was hoping since you solved my other biggest problem with the router you could figure this one out as well. :fingers-crossed:

Googled a lot and found just oneinstance of it being reported, tried the solution of disabling Multicast but couldn't find it in router setting, also tried every other solution found related to wifi wakelocks like static IP, disabling DHCP, disconnecting other devices, disabling microsoft services iphelper etc nothing worked.

I just enabled blocking clients3.google.com on my router but only for my device, and the tip venky716 posted. I usually get none, 1 or 2 drops wifi a day (which only come back if I restart the router) but let's see if these improve the situation

Not true if you setup a strong password. In any way I just giving good solutions for everybody who have low cost router and problems with wifi random disconnections which is caused by bad wpa and wpa2 on low cost routers.

only some hours more... because with WEP you can use brute force attack, and with WPA/WPA2 only dictionary attack or WPS attack...

Sometimes you get error message saying Cant Establish a reliable data connection to server. Which takes hours, days or sometimes week to fix. :angel:
Today i am going to show you a guide by which you can skip this error easily. i know there are many threads related to this,, but this one is different. You don't need to delete any host file, or any file manager or Root. This method did worked for me and i didnt find this on XDA. (Sorry if there is already).
Lets jump in to the Fix now! :laugh:​
There are two ways, first one is by going to router settings and second one is through your device.
#1
• Open your browser
• Goto 192.168.1.1
• Sign in (default username and password is "admin" without quotes)
• After you are signed in to your router follow this picture:
If above method don't work for you dont worry try this method below: ​#2
First step is connecting to wifi, if you are already connected to wifi then disconnect and again connect with this method:
Remember that: there will be values in light color just use that light color values not mine. Maybe in your case its different. for example in step#4 below its showing 192.168.1.1 as default gateway i am using that. If its change in your case then use your
• Enter wifi password, Check mark on Show Advanced Options:
• Change IP Settings to Static:
• Write down the IP Address that is already written in the box:
• Similarly, Gateway:
• Network Prefix Length, DNS 1 & DNS 2:
• After writing all of these Tap on Connect:
• Now you will be connected to the wifi:
• You can now download apps or sign in to google successfully! :fingers-crossed:

Here are some of the things that are wrong with this advice:
If you enter an address that is already in use, now neither your device nor the device that was already using the address can connect to anything reliably, you've just broken someone else's networking
Even if no other device is using the IP currently, if DHCP is not completely broken then the DHCP server may give out that address at a later time because it doesn't know anyone is using it, and then again, neither your device, nor the device that just obtained the address, will be able to connect to anything reliably
It assumes every network uses the 192.168.1.1/24 subnet
It doesn't fix the actual problem

Was just about to say, how would configuring a static ip instead of a dynamic one fix "the problem"? As there is probably no common cause to all suffering from the same error message, there is no "the problem". This here is probably simply a malconfigured network.
So not good advice indeed and thread starter does not seem very knowledgeable about how networks, dhcp and ip stuff works.

Well, the IANA designated private subnets are:
10.0.0.0/8
172.16.0.0/12
192.168.0.0/16
So, networks may use any of these, or any smaller subnet. And the gateway could be any address within that subnet.

I dont know why are you saying this but dude this works . There are many other method to fix this problem, some of them works and some won't in some users. How can you say that It doesn't fix the actual problem. It did mine and obviously some other users too. I dont know much about that DHCP and subnet but this solution works.

Doesn't appear to be. I think I'm going to have to remove XDA from my news feed, the portal seems to be nearly entirely filled with trash now.

@inaqi69 I understand your excitement, but sorry to disappoint you, I'm with @spoidar on this one. There is no technical relevancy to your writeup, it's "dumb luck" that it worked for you.
Quick question: why do I have to fill in completely different values, and I mean *completely different* values...? I tried with yours, now my connectivity is *completely broken* I cant do anything anymore. Nothing, I'm offline. Why?

I think this issue is more of a "buggy/broken DHCP server" on your router/modem/ISP issue.
I really don't see how this would fix anything else otherwise.
Maybe you can use this guide to change the default DNS and leave everything else as it was. I tried this when I bought my nexus 5 and it was unable to connect and download from the playstore, but nothing helped. I even contacted google support and they had no idea what was wrong. Half an hour later it just started working. So this is not 100% working, not even close...
Looks promising but what about those other half who doesn't have Static IP and stuck with Dynamic? Like for example i've tried to follow given steps and at final step connect button was darken so couldn't able to make it possible.
Also, given setting was default on every other Android Device, if we choose Static IP. So what's the point?
Assign dedicated IP
most routers have a feature to assign a dedicated IP. A recommendation is to change your router DHCP DNS and a class C /25 subnet mask
DHCP 192.168.2.1
DNS 192.1683.1
DNS2 192.168.4.1
Subnet 255.255.255.128
If you have a dual band router in my case I have a Asus RT-AC66U separate your wireless AC and N (ex ssid1 ASUS-AC, ssid2 ASUS-N) I also increase the TX power to 100 but I'll recommend having a secondary router and set it up as a Access Point and creating a scheduler to turn off the radio off your primary router (ex. router1 operates from 7am to 11:59pm router2 operates from 12am to 6:59am)

actually nothing wrong with him, but its wrong with your trick.. My routers default gateway is 192.168.0.1 and I lost connectivity after following your trick.. So its not a trick.. Its dumb luck as he said..
