[Q] Restoring to factory defaults - HTC Sensation

I am passing my old HTC Sensation to my mother now, and she will not need it rooted.
I can't flash the new Revolution, since my firmware is too old.
How do i get the phone unrooted and back to as it was when i got it as brand new?

Get the RUU, google and u will find
Send from my lovely Sensation XL, from a little town in france with a very very slow internet connection.

To start with, you can flash the new ARHD. Updating your firmware is super easy. All the instructions and the downloads can be found in the Sensation forums. (But literally you put the file on your SD card, reboot into recovery, and don't touch anything until the phone tells you to. 5 mintues later your firmware is upgraded.)
Second, you don't have to go the full RUU route if you just want to hand mom a stock phone that she can't screw up with root access. You can leave the device S-Off because that likely won' tmean anything to her, and just flash a stock shipped ROM. (There's a whole thread of them around here somewhere)
In fact, that's probbaly your best option bcause it leaves S-Off, thus giving you the ability to easily fix her phone or restore it or update it or whatever else you might want to do later. It also gives you the ability to get bloatware off of it too.

Bricked cdma htc hero after ruu 1.56 Semi Solution

Ok, just like all of you I have rooted, experimented to the limits and pushed them well little did i Know is that you cant reflash the 1.56 ruu so needless to say I ended up with a brick but luckily for us it will still connect in fastboot
so this is a solution to at least get it up and running
Pros-
Reactivate your phone since it will be formated
All functions will work
can still root, install .apk's use wifi etc
camera etc
so the pros are it will operate just like nothing ever happened now to the con's
YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE
Ok here is how to fix it
Connect your phone to your PC
open command and navigate to your android tools folder
type in
fastboot devices
make sure it detects your device
should show the HTC logo on your phone
now simply type
fastboot oem boot
wait a couple minutes while your phone reboots
viola you phone is back to running again...just dont turn it off LOL
can you launch the RUU again and (hopfully) have it restore your phone correctly?
You can launch but it will still fail like before, I havent been successful in finding a full solution as of yet

hmmmm interesting man. honestly you should be able to rebuild all the / partitions. such as /misc and /radio. we need some linux junkies in this thread to tell us how to rebuild failed / partitions
This is amazing. Sure did work for me. I just wish there was a way to get it flash the original radio. I have only had this thing two weeks and would love to take it back and exchange it, but I am just paranoid since it shows radio 2.41.04.02.03.
wait, what exactly did you do to get your near-bricked phone?
you used the 1.56 RUU on your phone that had a 2.xxxxxx radio?
have you tried both of the RUU's? the original and 1.56?
My phone was the Sprint Hero *with Google model, so I had rooted it and loaded a custom rom on it etc and was playing around with it but I wanted to go back to stock so i flashed this ruu
RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release
And BAM at the end error 110
wouldnt boot anylonger
spent all day on figuring out this solution
did you try the 1.29 RUU?
yeah i tried every sprint hero ruu i promise you i left no stone unturned trying to fix this
BRILLIANT!
I can't tell you how impressed I am that somebody has found what i now consider to be the first step towards getting the RUU 110 error solved.
I still feel that the issue comes down to the lack of ADB that seems to happen once you get 110... maybe a driver issue on the phone vs. driver issue on the computer? after all the RUU starts failing on all the ADB commands when you check out the RUU logs...
sorry i can't help take it from there, i returned my phone to sprint inside of the 30-day window and just told them something i installed form the market "bricked" my phone...
I eagerly await your results though for a final step towards solution, as I am dreading the day i have to RUU my phone for whatever reason that may be, although I've been running a personally customized Pancake ROM for almost a week and totally happy with it so won't be doing anything until 2.1 is official...

Same exact thing for myself. Multiple people said the way to go back to the stock radio was to use the RUU. I tried both RUU's and same results. Now I am just trying to decide what is better.
Live with this and hope for a better option to come or take back a "bricked" hero that shows Radio 2.41.04.02.03 and hope I don't end up getting charged later.
IMHO I think the best thing for you guys to do is wait for our 2.1 update, which will more than likely have a smiliar radio update. Then you can just say the update bricked the phone.
If we get the same radio version, then just take it back, if we get a different version then maybe we can find a file to edit the number to make it say what ever version you want it to say, something like editing Build.prop. Then Sprint has nothing to ask questions about. Should be out in a few weeks if the rumors are right. Maybe you can deal with this soultion until then.
As far as the don't turn your phone off issue, mines been up for 13 days. I hate turning it off, partially because of the missed emails and partially because I worry that it won't come back up.
Subscribing. When Sprint releases the official 2.1 in a few weeks, I was planning on using the 1.56 RUU and then doing the 2.1 update. Apparently this isn't going to be possible since I did the Radio update. What is going to be the proper way to get the 2.1 update through Spring for phones with the Radio update to keep from bricking a phone?

There's been plenty of people who have flashed back and forth between the radio versions, using the RUU programs...there's only been a few that have bricked from what I've read.
It's still a bit iffy on whether or not it's actually safe to go between the two, but it shouldn't matter since the new radio versions apparently work just fine with all ROM's that I've seen

True, and if we elect to continue to use either a Fresh or Damageless version of an official 2.1 Sprint ROM, then we should be ok. But if we wanted to go to the Sprint ROM, there are going to be a lot of bricked phones if there isn't a way to understand what is going on when a 1.56 RUU is used over a phone with the 2.x Radio update.
Just wanted to pass along some more information in case anyone else is having this problem. I had reactivated an old phone temporarily since this one was bricked. This morning I reactivated my hero due to this semi fix and immediately I could call and textimg was fine, but i kept getting vision error 67 for data. Sprint reset my data about three times and it never worked. I tried updating my profile multiple times and it never worked. Finally I Ran the RUU again and sure enough after a reboot or an "oem boot" I had error 67again. I went ahead and updated my profile and this time it worked and data started working. Still hoping someing else comes along though.
well I think the issue here might be that it does not have the recovery backup on it after you do an RUU. I could be wrong but who knows? I would say install flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk on your phone once you are able to get it up and running then flash the recovery backup and restart. That could possibly fix the issue? I have the files if anyone needs them, I'm not sure how to upload them on here...
~Danny
I'm not sure if it's possible boot into recovery console using this method, but if you can, has anyone tried manually flashing the old radio in the same manner they flashed the new one to revert back and then RUU. Perhaps that may do the trick.
My phone isn't bricked so I can't try it out, but seems like it might be worth a shot in theory.

[Q] HTC Inspire Stability Issues

Info:
Inspire 4g rooted running Honey3D from the ROM Manager (Android 2.3.3 Sense 3.0)
Before I rooted the device when I upgraded to 2.3.3 from the official AT&T ROM I started having issues with device stability. I figured if I rooted and installed another ROM it would improve, but much to my dismay it hasn't. I will be doing simple things like texting and the device will lock up and require me to take the battery out to reboot. It has gotten worse in the past couple of weeks and I am hoping I can get some help here. It's so bad I *gasp* ordered a refurbed iPhone from Gamestop...but I am hoping I can get some help and be able to bring this device to it's former glory!
I have also noticed I cannot get through a full day with battery. Is this something that has to do with GB on the Inspire? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well I know the Inspire has a pretty sub-standard battery life before rooting but as for instability, you my friend probably have some kind of a hardware issue. Typically, most lock-up issues I see are from bad flashes and unstable roms, in this case it seems you had some issues before the root which leads me to believe you have either some hardware issue or some kind of a compatibility issues. When you flash a new rom, make sure to always full wipe (wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, battery stats) before you flash a new rom. If you haven't done that already, try it and re flash the rom. May I suggest trying Bindroid for testing purposes as I know they have a very stable sense ROM.

I noticed that you said you are running Honey3D from ROM Manager? Does that mean you downloaded the ROM in app, through ROM Manager? That COULD be your problem, as I know sometimes downloads through the app aren't downloaded properly, completely, etc.
Try getting onto a desktop computer, downloading the ROM form the XDA site, and move it to your SD card, and THEN boot into recovery, full wipe, etc.
Try that. Let me know
I had similar issues on my stock rom (unrooted). ATT sent me a new battery as it was still under the 1yr warranty. That didn't solve the problem so they sent me a new refurb (with another new battery). No more problems - plus I now have two spare batteries. But as long as you are rooted, they are going to think that is the problem.
If it comes to the point where you have to send the phone back to ATT, just download the RUU from the HTC website, and update the phone back to the Stock Gingerbread 2.3 update. That will remove root and you'll be set
I will try these solutions tonight and see if I can get any of them to work.
I really do appreciate everyone's input. If I have to return to stock, is there anything special I need to do to unroot my phone? Like turning S-OFF back on ON?
Thanks again!

I believe there is a tool somewhere in the dev section to get everything back to stock..but more or less you'll need the stock RUU from HTC. I have never had to go back to stock so this is simply based on what I've seen/red and not so much based on experience lol
How do I check to see if S-OFF is back to S-ON? That's the main thing I am concerned with. Don't want them knowing I rooted and telling me it a no deal on a replacement if it comes to that.

Edit: the top line in HBOOT if S-Off should read something like "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF"

Help! Bought already rooted phone, it's having issues, I want to start over.

Like the titles says, I bought a rooted phone from someone and it's messing up so now I'd like to take it back to factory settings 100% with the latest update, and unrooted as well. I'm currently frustrated to be honest...I've been trying to do this for the last 6 hours and it's not working out.
Recently my number has not been showing up when I call people it just shows as withheld/unknown, and also when people call me it always shows their numbers as unknown even if they are saved in my phone already. I was told at T-Mobile these problems are just part of the version software I'm running on my phone and I should update it.
I've tried doing the latest update through the phone and it will restart then be stuck on the screen with the little green guy sitting under a triangle with a orange exclamation mark inside of it. I took it to T-Mobile and they tried to install the latest software and eventually (after many times trying to update it) said I just need to go home and find the latest software update and install it via my computer to bring it back to 100% normal as they cannot do it without it being hooked up to my computer.
Where can I even download the latest firmware/whatever it's called and how would I do the updating with the phone connected to my computer? Is there a guide I can be linked to to explain updating rooting/unlocking/etc all in one thread?
If there are any specific threads that already have this information please link me, I haven't found anything that helps me thus far! Thanks ahead of time for your help with this everyone!

Thanks for the link and attempting to help me but I've just gone to start that process and I already have a problem with it. My HBOOT version is not listed on the websites supported HBOOT versions.
I have 1.17.1111 and it's not on the list of HBOOT versions, there is only a 1.17.0011. So what should I do now?
I need to unroot and uninstall anything that would effect this process firstly (I'm not sure how to do that either). I want to do a total wipe of everything and uninstall all modifications to phone as well, then I want to re-do the best ones. So I will need to be linked to a guide to do these as, obviously, I'm one of those stupid needy nubs roaming the forums. Also, how would I go about finding and downloading the latest t-mobile update (Android 2.3.4 / software version 1.50.531.1) for this phone? The guys at the store said there was a new one that just came out and that I'd need to download it and install it via computer.
Hello
The first thing you are gonna do is write supercid follow this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 - step 4
This is so you can flash any RUU, you want and not to brick your device.
After that find the a RUU that matches your phone company : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
After that run it on your phone. When you have done that, you should be non-rotted, stock recovery(means that you can install updates from HTC), but you are still S-off. Now this is a very tricky a dangerous thing to do.
I have done it before, and I did it exactly as I am telling you to do. Now click on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And go to step 5, and do as exactly it says, when done, you should be s-ON and now your phone should be as It was new
That is what I did and nothing went wrong, but don't blame me if something goes wrong
Nvm, I think I might have it now.

[Q] Couple of problems with the Desire S

Hi everybody. I'm starting a new thread because there are quite a few issues on this phone and I wanted your help in understanding them.
I'm using an Orange HTC desire S which I bought from a local market in India. This was about six months back and it picked up my Vodafone sim easily so i presumed it had some kind of Sim unlocker.
PROBLEM 1
Fast forward to a few days back when I thought getting root access would be fun and would enable many more options. I booted into recovery mode and here is where the first problem kicks in.
When I boot using the volume + power button option, my phone tells me it's S-OFF and then proceeds(on its own) to a different menu. It shows two options only.
1. Device info
2. Clean S58 data
There's no way at all to return to the previous screen here on. It gets stuck here because option 1 gives me general data about the phone and option 2 runs what seems like the sim unlock problem, tells me there's no update and returns to the same menu. I'm always(2 attempts) left with only the battery pull option which invariably clears all the data on my phone and works like a hard reset.
I also tried this without the memory card and got stuck at the black screen with the red exclamation mark.
Can someone tell me what's wrong here and what I need to do to get root access.
PROBLEM 2
This is more of a confusion I face. Most of my friends using the Desire S have got the sense 3.0 update but my phone is still running on 2.1 and tells me it is up to date. On the forum, most people seem to have received the 2.3.5 and the 3.0 update. Why am I not getting it?
Is it because i'm not on the orange network or is it something else(like s off)?
What do i need to do to get the updates in India?
Thanks for reading.
Can someone tell me what's wrong and how I should proceed?

Sukrit, most of your answers are within your questions. I've highlighted them in Red...
First of all, just because you purchased it in India (Somewhere like Gaffar Market, etc) doesn't mean it's from HTC India. HTC software update doesn't look at what sim card you're using to allot upgrades to your phone... It localises you depending on the software shipped with the phone.
Secondly, your phone is an Orange branded device and unlocking stuff is usually more troublesome and dangerous on branded devices... As for the solution to PROBLEM 1 as posted by you, look inside your sd card for a file named PG88IMG.zip. If you find it, back it up on your pc and delete it from the sd card. See if that helps, as having an update zip on your memory card will force your bootloader to flash it whether you want it to do so or not... Let's call it the phone's "instinct" to flash the PG88IMG.zip if it finds it while in bootloader.
I also suggest you read the Guides in the general section carefully, especially the warning about branded devices... But since you say you're s-off, half the battle is already won and i think you'll be okay to root.
As for the battery pull, it does not reset your phone data my friend... your data will all be safe and all it does is a soft reset, NOT a hard reset. You are more likely to fry your eMMC chip doing that... and that would be a MUCH bigger problem, as i'm kinda sure your phone doesn't even have a distant cousin called "warranty"
Let me know if you found an update zip on your sd card like i mentioned above, and we'll pick it up from there.
Cheers. Hope i can be of help.
Thanks a lot for answering and helping me with my problem.

I've understood this but does it also mean that unless i'm on the Orange network, I won't get the update?
Also, great guess on where I got the phone from

I understand. There are two files that i think are relevant.
1. HTC-ANDROID-GOLD_CARD. I haven't put this in as far as I remember. Size-0 bytes.
2. PG88DIAG.nbh. I'm presuming this is the file you were talking about? There is a slight difference in name, though.

This is what is weird,Amit. If I pull the battery when the phone is at the device info and clear s58 data screen, it always hard resets. All software/contacts,basically anything on the phone memory disappears. Why does this happen?
If you think this behavior is normal then i'll remove the file in the memory card and try again.
Thanks a ton!

Why don't we start by removing the PG88DIAG file from the sd card (back it up on PC), and also the GOLD CARD file, which obviously was used by the nefarious Gaffar guys to s-off your phone...,
This will hopefully give you access to bootloader and fastboot so you can root and flash a custom recovery. Once you've done that, you can flash whatever ROM you like.
I'd recommend Endymion if you want the best possible sense 3.5 experience...
Let me know if removing those two files allows you to remain in bootloader and access recovery...
Hey Amit. Removing the two files has worked fine. Thanku
What steps should i take now to get root access?
Or, can I just load the orange ROM available on the other thread without rooting?

Or, can I just load the orange ROM available on the other thread without rooting?

Congrats buddy!
Firstly, you cannot flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery...
To obtain root access, you can use Gingerbreak.apk
I suggest you just flash a custom recovery (I personally recommend 4EXT Recovery) via fastboot or you can simply use 4EXT Recovery updater app (free) or 4EXT Recovery Control app (paid, check my signature for link), then take a nandroid backup of your current ROM, and then Flash a Custom ROM.
You don't have to stick to Orange ROMs... you can flash whatever ROM you want... I highly recommend Endymion, but the choice is ultimately yours to make...
Glad you got this far... happy times ahead for you!!

Before proceeding, i would like to know what hboot version you have... this may save us a lot of trouble later...

This didn't work. I left it on two times for more than 15 minutes.

Yup, everything seems to be fine. Go ahead and root your phone... flash 4EXT Recoery via 4EXT Recovery Updater app, and then after taking a backup, and doing a full wipe, flash whatever ROM you want to...
Read the instructions and guides carefully in the general and Development section prior to this, and remember...DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY WHILE THE PHONE IS STILL ON! It's better to try other methods to reboot it, or even let it discharge over time and switch off by itself, rather that attempt to pull battery. Othert than this, i think you're ok to flash a new ROM, and enter the amazing world of custom ROMs...
Hey. I decided to be a little experimental and just couldn't wait either; installed revolutionary and i've got root access. Ha!
Thanks so much for your help.
Now tell me, what ROM should I use?
i've also installed clockwork.
Thanks a ton again!
Edit: I think you missed a part of my reply. Gingerbreak hadn't worked hence i opted for this.

Congrats!
If you want a Sense 3 ROM, go for Hyperion
For Sense 3.5 (My personal favourite) go for Endymion
For crazy theming options, you can try MIUI from MIUI.us
If you like plain stock look.... Cyanogenmod.
I would however still recommend Endymion (Though i like v2.2 better than v3)
P.S. Just a friendly question... Gaffar me kitne ka pada ye phone? I bought my phone new...but my wife wants one now and i don't want to put in the money for a new phone from a mobile store...
i'll get endymion then, should follow your advise since you've helped so much. Do i need to make any changes to the hboot/radio?
and should i get both 3.1 and the add on package?
yaar, it'll be a lot cheaper now. when i bought it tab market price was around 22.5. I got it for 16.5 with box and accessories. At that time, there were only two shops that had the desire S and this was the only one that functioned properly.
i'm pretty sure you can get it for less than 13k now.
I'll try n get you the shop's name and number. i've bought both the desire and the desire s from him and they've worked well.

You can get the v3.1 without the addon initially. See how it works for you... Then you can flash the addon package if you feel like Modding the ROM. I'm still on v2.2 because I didn't feel the need to upgrade.
Please do get me the number of your guy in gaffar as I'm planning to get a galaxy note as well as a desire s...
Beamed from the Dark Side using xda premium.
Hey. Looked everywhere for the number but I just can't find it. Awfully sorry, man.
I don't know if you've ever been to Gaffar before but just incase you haven't,do ensure that you buy from a proper shop and not people with cabinets full of phones. These guys will offer you cheaper prices but will also disappear in a couple of days.
There are only 5-6 big shops which sell import phones, most of them are decent and will offer you a week or two worth of hardware guarantee. Enough for you to atleast test the phone out.

[Q] [Help] getting my Inspire 4G back to stock

I had a ATT inspire 4G running on android 2.2
I rooted and installed CWS with easy ace root. worked perfectly
then following another guide I found, I tried to flash update-aospX-1.0.0-AR26-DesireHD-signed using recovery.
But my phone was stuck on the white HTC screen and didn't go anywhere. Trying to solve this issue I wiped everything with recovery and flashed this: GizRoot_v_2 (1) which I found on this forum as a rom made similar to the stock rom. this worked and now phone was good but the guide did say to change the radio.
I tried to update my radio via hboot with sd card, but it always got stuck on the installing part and never finished. After researching it the problem was that I am still S-ON and you cant change radios while S-on?
I have spent 4+ hours googling and researching I have about 12 tabs open with different guides. I am very frustrated at this point
I Have a inspire 4g phone that works but the radio doesn't work. 1st it would connect to the movil network of the carrier but the wifi did work. I changed the simcard to another provider and it did work calls were made and internet data worked. but now wifi doesn't work!
I would like to have the phone back to factory setting and stock att rom. how can I do this, I used a RUU exe, but it always said error connecting to the phone. the RUU is RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed
or maybe I am doing it wrong?
help please
edit: I booted phone to fastrecovery usb and ran the RUU.exe again, this time it went all the way to wiping and sending then it said an unknown error occurred right after updating signature and sent me to error recovery step 0, followed prompts but nothing worked
Flash boot.img from fastboot. Read the Ace Think Tank in Desire HD General for details.
steps
Ok
So.
I booted into recovery, wiped data and factory reset, wiped cache partition, wiped dalvik cache
installed from sd card update-aospX-1.0.0-AR30-DesireHD-signed. rebooted device into fastboot, connected usb cable.
downloaded android-win-tools and extracted into one folder. I also extracted the boot.img from update-aospX-1.0.0-AR30-DesireHD-signed into the same folder.
I opened a cmd window, went to said directory. typed fastboot.exe then fastboot devices. my device is there, then I did fastboot flash boot boot.img sending boot, writing boot ok.. did fastboot reboot...
and HOLY **** IT WORKS...
I still have to test wifi gps calls etc
EDIT: WIFI WORKS, GPS WORKS BLUETOOTH TOOK A WHILE TO TURN ON BUT WORKS, and calls work! camera works yey!
MIUI on Inspire 4G
Hi,
I need something like that too.
I bought my phone from USA in 2011, Android 2,2, i think, and with MIUI on it, locked on AT&T and I use it in Europe.
I unlocked it here in Europe and everything was fine.
So, the phone started work slow and after 2 years of use it I didn't receive any system update. My husband bought one same model, no MIUI on it, but HTC Sense I think, AT&T locked, unlocked here, but he received the system update and worked fine.
Now, in my silly thinking, I started to look for update on Internet and I saw that the Android is already 4.2. and I have 2.2. And I said, man, that's why is not working so well.
So, I upgraded my phone to Android 4.2.2 JDQ39E - the most stupid thing I could do. Starting that day, my phone is freezing non-stop, it restarted itself while I am talking on the phone. The apps are not working well, are freezing often. I read on AT&T website that for my model, the last Android is not 4.2.2 at all, but it was too late.
I found out how to upgrade the MIUI and I did it. This is ok, but this MIUI it makes me cray. I don't like it at all.
I WANT TO GET RID OF MIUI AND PUT SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD OF IT. And put the normal Android system that my phone support it well.
HOW I CAN DO THAT?
Please help me with some advices before I will creat a new model: HTC Inspire 4G smashed.
Thank you so much.

Uh mate, It's best to go back to Stock Roms for that. And Everytime you guys go upgrading and degrading Roms, It's best to make a backup image with Nandroid.
Easiest way to go back to stock is find the proper RUU's for your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385016
Pick one of these, Download the RUU, Plug in your phone and Let the App do it's magic.
And take note, It's going back to the STOCK.
After that, Use the AAHK tool or search around the forums to unlock and S-Off.
Good luck.
Thank you!

Thank you so much. Before I will do what you said, I will read all the threads about AAHK and how to unlock. I need to be informed before to do it. It is a little hard for me to do all these steps, but I will try. If I will succeed, than I will reconvert my job
Yeyyyy
