Which method are you using to get root and CWM recovery? It sounds like you are trying to use the old method of installing the modified 3e recovery and then using an update.zip. There is an updated way to do this with AT&T 2.3.6, and the old way doesn't quite work the same anymore. Let me know which method you're trying so I know where to direct you from there.
EDIT: Since I'm pretty sure that you are using the old method from stock Froyo to get root and CWM recovery, take a look at this thread. It's a how-to that explains most of the ways to get root and CWM recovery on 2.3.6.:

It sounds like the old way using an update.zip. In Froyo, we used to replace the stock recovery with a 3e recovery that would allow unsigned files to be flashed. Then we'd flash an update.zip that contained CWM recovery. Just curious, how did you root, and is this AT&T Gingerbread?
I'd read through that how-to thread I posted. If you can use Heimdall or Odin, there are some quick ways to get CWM recovery. In that thread, I've also outlined how to do it yourself on stock 2.3.6.

To get Gingerbread with CWM recovery for flashing roms, you could flash Option C or Option D from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Or, if you prefer Heimdall, qkster has some nice one-click packages. There are links for those in the first thread I gave you.
If you already have root (How did you root, again?), then you could just flash one of the Gingerbread kernel / CWM recovery packages from here.:

Before you go any further, we need to investigate something. First, let's confirm that you are on AT&T 2.3.6, because most of us haven't found or made a working one-click program to root stock 2.3.6 directly. Can you go to Settings / About Phone and tell me what is listed under "Baseband version"?
If you can do that to confirm that this is AT&T 2.3.6, I'd really like to know what program you used. Or did you root the phone before you were on Gingerbread?
Any of those links that I've given you in the last post will give you CWM (clockwork) recovery to install different roms. An easy way would be to do Option C or Option D at this one. Either one will do. Here's the link again.:

Hey guys,
Need urgent help here. i think i hard bricked by rooted unlocked i727 SR.
I had CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7 installed and i wanted to update it to the CWM Touch Recovery version 5.8.4.3.
i downloaded the file from the clockworkmod.com site and put it into the external SD card. Then from the terminal emulator i put in these commands:
su
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/external_SD/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.3-skyrocket.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
I am pretty sure this is an incorrect command (especially the memory block) since it flashed the memory block and as soon as i restarted it..boom. Nothing happens. No power, no vibration, no beeps, cant get into recovery, cant get into download mode, none of the key combinations work, plugging in the charger doesnt work.
Pls help! Have i hard bricked it!! Is there a solution to this?

Yes,you have.your'e gonna have to spend some money to repair it.I had the same issues.Either go to MobileTechVideos.com or go to there ebay site and pay $15 less. $35.00 search for JTAG.Sorry for the bad news
You tried taking the battery out and putting it back in?

And, oh yeah, try jtag if it will work.

Hey jose, when you say 'try jtag if it will work', i hope you aren't implying that there are chances it will not work. Is that so? I am looking for someone here in my country who will do Jtag for me. I found a few guys but they are all familiar with i9100 models not the i727. I am hoping its not too different - especially the soldering part onto the phone motherboard.
Has anyone tried Jtag and came out unsuccessful?
Will keep you guys posted once I go and speak to one of these fellows.

Happy to announce that my SGS2 SR i727 is back alive and kicking.
JTAG did the trick. Had to trace this guy in another city who seems to be an expert in all things JTAG, JIGs etc. He repaired it in less than 2 hours!
So if anyone is looking for a JTAG repair service in Mumbai or Delhi in India, give me a buzz. I can help you out.

You must first flash to stock using odin
Then root and flash a recovery, I recommend "Team Win Recovery Project" TWRP
Then with your custom rom downloaded, flash the rom file.
I suggest one of the 4.1.2 roms, Those are the latest android releases.
If you flash your custom rom but do not see Gmail, Make sure to flash Gapps.
Be sure to wipe cache and fix permissions,
If you wipe system be sure you have a rom downloaded to flash
If you don't then you will end up soft bricked, and it's not easy to get out of that.
If you follow the instructions for flashing each rom exactly, then you will have a working rom.
If you mess up and your phone acts crazy, just try wiping cache and flashing again.

You need to do some research before flashing. Know what you're flashing and make sure its for the skyrocket
Yup you are hard bricked. Jtag works and is well worth the money
If you still have a warranty I would send it in and get a new skyrocket. I did this before and sent in my hard bricked phone and never heard back from at&t about why it was not working. I told them I woke up and it wouldn't turn on. I hope this helps some good luck.

Hi all, after successfully flashing aeon gears boot animation with clockwork mod from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656709 I then attempted to flash the Aeonised Forrest theme also from that same thread. This was my first attempt at flash a custom theme and as far as I am aware Entropy's kernel supports custom themes? Was it wrong to use CWM to flash the theme, according to CWM after the flash things went well however after rebooting I am stuck in a boot loop. Thinking of trying one click back to stock with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081 Any ideas what went wrong? Evergreen Theme Theme for AEON ROM....not stock...?
do you have driver loaded on your pc?, There are drivers for Infuse on the super infuse page, see my links...
or try diff usb port or cable...or pc...
does it ask for drivers for heimdall? which those are different drivers than odin...
if you want those nice, beautiful themes that mikig make...flash Aeon, then flash the themes...kk
but the Super Infuse page has all the ROM/tools/drivers you need for the Infuse...the individual that maints that page is just a loser, but dont tell him, he is dork with an additude...ok
see "My links" in red...go there if you need anything else for you infuse...kk
I have a copy of ODIN with a few files in it not sure if they are useful? Files are: PHONE_UCKD5.tar.md5, infuse.pit, PDA_UCKD5.tar.md5
Will any of those fix my boot loop? Flashing a theme shouldn't permanently brick me right?

Odin and heimdall uses different device recognition drivers.
I've not used Odin for over 9 months so I can't offer advice there. Jscott30 has more experience with Odin.
If you want, you can restore your phone using the heimdall 1 click uclb3 I put together.
Flash in download mode. It will restore your phone if used correctly.
If you want to try, before flashing anything else, try first booting into recovery using the three finger techniques into cwm and flash aeon or another MUF.
Recovery may still work.

Now all good Although I think my data was wiped off
However I had no custom roms on my SD to flash and could only boot in to DL mode and CWM neither were of use .
At the very least now that I'm all clear i might flash Aeon rom.

One thing you should take away from this experience is to make sure you do a NANDROID BACKUP before flashing ANYTHING in CWM.
Learn how to get into CWM using the 3-finger method, too. It can come in handy.

Make sure you are not plugged into your pc when you boot to recovery! - if that doesn't solve it ..
Does the phone boot to the existing Rom, do you have Rom manager installed? - if so update the recovery from Rom Manager. I found that after rooting the One S using the toolkit I could not get in to recovery, the update from Rom Manager sorted it!
All the best :good:

Which recoveries have you tried, and what version of phone do you have (S3 or S4). These must match.
Make sure you bootloader unlocked OK, check in bootloader screen, should say Unlocked.
The problem youre describing sound like when you try to boot after successfully flashing a ROM but forgot to or the kernel failed to flash with it. Only happens when ROM and kernel are mismatched enough that it wont boot, fex flashing CM9 and still on HTC original kernel. Try flashing the kernel from the ROM zip file with
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can also try booting a recovery without installing it,
Code:
fastboot boot nameofrecoveryfile.img

If you have working ADB and fastboot working (there is a sticky by user fibsib that explains this) you can make sure your phone isnt really just trying to boot the OS and failing rather than trying to enter recovery with the command
Code:
adb reboot recovery
But anyways figure out which version you have before doing anything more, flash the wrong stuff and you could break stuff. There are good info here as to how to see if you have the Ville=Z520e=S4 processor model or the Ville C2/Z560e/S3 processor model.
Then download a recovery for your phone model and install it with this command from your computer
Code:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecoveryyoudownloaded.img
Should work.
have you actually flashed a recovery yet?
which one and how did you do it?
Make sure you have your phone updated to the latest software version before you root. Download system update OTA and click update.
Otherwise you will have issues.
I am rooted T-Mobile phone with original software 1.54 and still can not do recovery or update, it is probably me but it is difficult.
If you are in the US, make sure you use the US version in the development section after you upgrade your phone. Update then try to root it might be easier.
Okay, I already posed in a couple of places and have gotten limited responses.
So I have a Samsung Galaxy Centura and pretty much no Odin3 access, and a microSD card, a stock ROM that is not signed, and I need it signed, preferably by Samsung. I heard that 3e ROMs can only work if the signature verification is disabled or you have the properly signed ROM. I have the ROM, and as previously stated, no CWM or other custom recovery. I need to fix this phone and my only option is through the SD card.

I can get it into DL mode, it's just that I can't use it because the public computers I'm using don't allow you to install drivers.
I just need a way to disable signature verification or get a ROM signed by Samsung. I have the stock ROM for the phone but I still need it signed to continue.
I can open Odin3, but the program doesn't detect my phone.

i would try odin 1.8.5 and yeah just ask someone to use their computer, if you live in Seattle (like myself) there are plenty of android fans that would probably help you out if you ask. ask around.

This is not a rom...! It's a backup of rom... You should hava a cwm recovery to flash it...
If you can find your rom for odin a can make a flashable zip for and sign...
But I don't know if you can find your stock rom...
It's a ROM. I looked at it. It may be a backup but its still a ROM. It's a ZIP so I can use 3e.

Yes it's a backup of a rom...! You can't flash this file via 3e... You can't flash backups by 3e... You need cwm recovery...
You can a flash a cwm via download mode or (i think) via adb shell (your device should be rooted)
Solved!

Regardless, I sent the phone back to the manufacturer. Hopefully if they can't fix it I still might be able to get a signed ROM from Samsung. I've contacted them and am expecting a return email.
