I believe this is will get anyone the best results for HD quality and live tv streaming.
Instruction to load XBMC with external MX player and updated libRTMP:
1. Install the xbmcapp-armeabi-MX-v7a-neon-27.11.2012 XBMC
2. Locate the following folder: Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata and copy the Playercorefactory.xml file to this folder ( i did this with my computer i put the SD card in my computer and put the playercorfactory.xml file in the directory stated very easy to do and it works great.)
3. Copy "librtmp.so" file to this folder: /data/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/lib (data is on the root of the jynxbox not the sd card).
All the files you need

anyone have any links to any notes on firmware development? original ROM source code?

That sounds very interesting! Please let me know how that turns out. Does it boot to text console or xwindows?
Is it based on a distro(Debian,Ubuntu, etc) or is it a custom buildroot image?

This sounds pretty cool I have a Roku box that I stream video off the web. I works great but if an android style player were to come out and be stable I might be pursuaded to switch. Also just letting you know that XBMC does have some pretty buggy plugins for it e.g. Hulu doesn't work for all videos in it. I know this from using it on my computer before I got my Roku. If a new interest was sparked these issues could disappear with official plugins from the video providers themselves.

This Jynxbox Android HD firmware has bugs in it that keep me from replacing my old Xbox with it full time. Its more a toy at the moment for me. Source codes would make it easier to track down and fix problems in it. (Anyone have em?)
That Linux image posted above is looking interesting. The boot splash says "XIOS DS media center" and it boots straight into XBMC for linux. (12.0-rc3 git:20130103-2318127) the jynxbox wireless internet works with this image, and the wireless remote works once you enable mouse support. USB keyboards work as well.
It connects to my samba server and plays all the videos I could try. (The jynxbox xbmc could not access my samba server and updated xbmc apks couldn't play my video files) so far its looking great.
Thanks phati for the heads up on that image. Where did you find it? Is there a public forum related to its development?

hey guys,
the description of the product (http://jynxbox.me/Product.aspx) says it has adobe flash 10.x on board.
will this allow me to stream all kind of content which is displayed in a flash player within the android browser?
www.my-entertainment.biz (hd free streams) e.g.? would somebody be so kind to test that. would be awesome!
thanks so far!

Edit:// Is this thing shipped from China? How long did it take til you get yours guys?

I received mine sent to me from a great guy named Cody who operates http://www.boxtoptheater.com. It was shipped to me from Canada and arrived in roughly a week after stock was replenished. So far I absolutely love the device and hope that custom roms might find their way to it, besides simple updates to XBMC that it operates for the media center aspects. Since the box comes pre-rooted, it should not be too problematic I imagine. Sounds to me that several set top units use the same board chip also. Everything seems to run well except games that only run in portrait mode for obvious reasons.
Once I receive my portable hard drive for it, and have the dvr functionality running, I'll post some videos on line for others.

[Q] Virtual Desktop Performance

Has anyone have any experience using the Transformer as virtual desktop?
I would love to be able to log in via the browser via windows small business server to run all of my work apps when necesary while on the road.
I read that there was included software to help with this??? (Can't find the review that mentioned it now)
(I apologize if there is a thread somewhere on this!)
Thanks!

That will be my first project once I get mine in, test it with couple of remote desktop apps. I will update you once I write a review!
I use virtual desktop, virtual viewer and pocketcloud on my EVO and they have helped when a PC/windows wasn't available so its worth it. It would be interesting to see how these apps behave on a tablet.
there's a built in app for remote desktop. I'll report back after I get mine friday.
The app built-in (since firmware update 1) is a free version of splashtop. It works very well.
forgive the stupid question...
But with a virtual desktop app, I know you can log into your computer and make the computer do stuff (run programs, open files, etc.).
I only tried it out once a while ago on a phone and it was neat, but altogether too difficult to really use on a phone. However witha tablet, that should be a different story.
My question is, can you load a media file one the computer and will it actually display on your tablet? Could I open Zune up on my computer and play a song and have the sound come through on the tablet? I imagine that's not possible... but a guy can dream can't he?

That is the idea behind splastop but i could be wrong.. if you wait and soon we will have mobile virtualization happening on these devices.
Holy cow, thanks for the fast response. And I just went to splashtop's website... That just looks great, exactly what I would want.
Is it better than Logmein Ignition?

If you are looking for something like RDP, then pocketcloud is good app... which I prefer over a apps like logmein which require installation on the client.

Yes it can do all that. It even streams video files pretty well. It sends the audio to the tablet as long as you set your desktop machine to stereo sound.

I've used both, on my iPhone and now on my Acer (the trial, I'm not gonna buy it when it will be free on my transformer).
If you have a strong wifi connection it's awesome.
It's awesome that ASUS includes it for free.
Since I have a captive audience..
Can you log in, play music, then switch back to the tab and still have the music playing in the background (like if I wanted to browse the web from the tablet's apps while i listen to the music from the remote log in)?

[Q] Archos 10b - Com-PLEX Issue (Video Streaming)

Evening Guys / Gals
Right I've been scratching my head on this one for days now and it seems that no one for some bizarre reason ever came across this issue before. OK I'm a bit of a Noob when it comes to Android but I manage to get my head around things pretty fast.
Anyhow My issue. I have an Archos (Arnova 10b - 8GB) tablet Yeah its a cheap one but thought it would be better than buying a kindle... What I'm trying to do is to stream Videos over my network using PLEX ver 2.0.0.6 and the latest Plex Media server
My PC is a Windows 7 x64-bit system and My Archos is still running the Official 2.1 Eclair Firmware. I did mod it at one point with the kasty-arn10b-22-01 FW but the Archos did not behave very well on it so I had to revert back to stock FW.
(I could not find a stable Version of Froyo for it yet so if you do have any suggestions, and I mean any suggestions at all (without Bricking it) --- PLEASE let me know)
So the Plex Media server is running on my PC and I can see and browse my Videos with ease from the Archos tablet using the Plex 2.0.0.6 App. However when I try to run any .avi or mvk files on the Archos it seems to load and buffer the video fine but eventually fails on me with the following error:
Unexpected error while trying to play media item at: <MYIP>:32400/Video/:Transcode/Segment/Start -> and which seems to be allot of information about the type of file and coding it tried to use.
Now I do believe that this is a codec issues and was able to pull the logcat from my Archos - The Full Text file is attached for those that are interested.
What interested me was the following:
D/c*.p*.a*.v*.PlexVideoV*( 1673): Transitioning from INITIALIZED to ERROR.
E/VideoPlayerActivity( 1673): Error when trying to display media : There was a problem accessing or playing the media. It may be that this is not a supported format on this device.
I/c*.p*.a*.v*.PlexVideoV*( 1673): Stopping video transcode session.
I know it works on Froyo I've tested it on my Previously modded Archos and a Samsung Galaxy Mini. But is not able to get this to work on Eclair
Other then modding it back to an unstable version of Froyo... Do you guys have any ideas how I might be able to resolve this debacle??
Resolved
Resolved - I installed Orb Live on my Android 2.1 and Orb Caster on my PC. Problem Resolved.

[Q] HTC media link DG H100

having just purchased an HTC media link for less than half the release price at £44 my next step was to check xda to see what type of hacks are available. unfortunately, repeated searching throws up little beyond the codec/filetype issues i'm likely to encounter.
is anybody working on the DG H100 firmware? am a little surprised to discover an htc product without any dev interest.
would be nice to see a minimal b+w gui & a more robust set of codecs - or is that a phone/pc problem? i'm just dipping my toes into DLNA so apologies if this is a stupid question.
any media link tips, links or suggestions welcome.
related : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469769
DG H100 on Desire Bravo
How are you getting on with the media link?
Your signature says that you have a Desire Bravo, are you using it with that?
The HTC site lists a load of phones that it is compatible with and the Bravo isn't on that list.
Would I be right in thinking that this just means that that phone wont work straight out of the box as it is missing the required native programs and I need to install an app to make the bravo a DLNA media server - e.g. iMediaShare Lite and that then i can *push* photos etc to my TV via the Media Link?
Any tips that you have will be appreciated, thinking of getting a media link, they look like a great gadget.
received it today and it works perfectly out of the box with my win7 pc & desire (same setup as sig).
the hotspot it sets up initially can be logged into through the pc - from where you can enter the ssid, encryption type & password for the home network. that's it.
watching a movie as i type. file is sat on the pc in the next room. selected on my desire with skifta, playing on the big telly.
in answer to your question, i've been using skifta to watch pc based files on my mobile for a few weeks, i'd suggest that if you can view things successfully using that method then it'd be worth adding the media link to your set up. from what i've read imediashare & twonky do much the same thing.
update
after a few weeks use, im considering an alternative NAS hd solution to wireless streaming to tv.
when the DG H100 works it's faultless. unfortunately around half of the media files i'm looking to view show up as unrecognised despite numerous attempts at converting to a media link friendly codec using http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ - which allows hard coding of subtitles

[Q] Best way to navigate/play files shared on SMB drive, using stick PC connected TV?

Hey,
I just got an MK808 TV Stick and I it's a pretty neat slick device. Like how small it is, and seems to be pretty fast (but, will probably flash some custom ROM on it soon).
Anyways, I want to use this as a replacement OS for my Smart TV and play Netflix/Hulu (have to root/market enabler to get this)/stream from my personal library, which is all shared on a raspberry pi PC via SMB. My Smart TV is DLNA compliant, but can't play all the different formats that I have accumulated over the years. My new stick TV PC, so far can handle it all.
Whats the best and easiest way to open files stored on SMB drives, and play them in a media play on my stick PC (right now, using VLC do to this). I say easy, in the sense that when my 6 year old kid wants to watch one of his movies he doesn't have to mount a drive via ES file explorer and choose what file from a list of directories like I am willing to do, but more of a "see the cover art, click and play" kind of way. I know XBMC would do most of this (if not all) but it only does software decoding, and I would like to have hardware.
Thanks in advance.
Ive got an ICUBE mk809II, i also have a NAS (nsa310) with my network share on. I use solid explorer and you can map to your network drive with that by adding an SMB share. Hopefully you have root. You can also then do a shortcut on the desktop by doing a solid explorer widget to that network share.
The second way i've used is to download a CIFS/SMB app, MountManager seemed the best, and you a can make a virtual link to your network share which is by default in your mnt folder. If you wanted to use your tv stick as a torrent box, you can map to the network share, and point Adownloader to the virtual link in the mount folder and it will get to your share. Its then easy to bookmark to your SMB/network share by doing a widget in Solid Explorer on your desktop. So with one click from the desktop, your there, I mainly use MX Player over VLC player as VLC was having audio sync problems.

Did, played some of my content, but not all of it. VLC so far is working ok.
Anyone have any idea how to install Finless rom with this? Can't seem to find much information on how to flash it, just what its features are.

Wow zmaki, that was the perfect choice! App works great for streaming from my SMB shares and shows the cotent like XBMC, except with decent rendering!
I have to admit though, I wish the program had its own built in media player with codec support, that would make it the cats ass.
PLEX works awesome, no problems with any streaming and it looks great.

Hi,
The question here is the same issue I have wirh my new android miniPC to let my children (and even my self) an easy access to files stored on my PC.
My device is not rooted (not I'm goind to do so).
The device is conected over the same LAN (wi-fi is disabled).
I saw codlike two solutions ("solid explorer" or MountManager) but both need root, is there another solution?

Do I need to install the drivers for the nexus player to sideload apps from my PC ?
If so, where are the drivers located ?
I have downloaded the latest SDK toolkit
Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
When I installed it the drivers were included. Don't forget you have to enable developer mode and then enable usb debugging to enable the ADB interface. That will show up as a different device in device manager (assuming you're on windows)
Sent from my Nexus 5
Is there a tutorial anywhere that shows exactly how to install the drivers and sideload apps for the Nexus player?
From the USB Driver thread:
DevinWatson said:
I got it up and running by:
Selecting update driver
Browse my computer for driver software
Selecting let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Selecting show all devices
Clicking have disk
Finally selecting \android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf as the driver
Hope this helps anyone else who comes across this issue.

And once you've got the drivers, I think you can use the Sideload Wonder Machine to sideload things, if you don't like using the command line.
I was sideloading everything with the OTG usb cable but then I installed ES File Explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en and I've been using the Remote FTP server feature on there to just send stuff over without having to connect it to a computer. I think you can use the play store website to do a remote install over to the Nexus Player with ES File Explorer and then just get the APK for whatever you're trying to load and FTP it over. You can then use ES File Explorer to find that file you just sent over and install it. You will need the 'install from unknown sources' feature on still in the dev options but it does make it easier.
So how, exactly, would one side-load the Amazon Instant Video app? I would be happy to lose our aging Google TV but the Nexus Player doesn't support Amazon... does anyone here have a link to the Amazon apk? Thanks!
As far as I know Amazon Prime streaming won't work until Amazon gives their blessing and releases and app for the Android TV platform. There is an app for for phones and tablets available through the regular Amazon store app but there are some hoops you have to go through to get it working which includes sideloading their 'player' app or whatever, it's not a good solution at all and I doubt it'd be easy to use on the Nexus Player even if it launched.
With Amazon releasing their own set top boxes and HDMI sticks I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a Prime streaming app on android for a long while, if ever. Our best chance at getting it on the Nexus Player would be if someone figures out a way to pull the native Fire TV app off that device and getting it working on stock android and some how keep Amazon from blocking it as they are actively shutting down apps that can stream Prime: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...d-removed-from-the-play-store-after-36-hours/
This sucks as I'd love to see all that content since I pay for Prime, I doubt I'll be renewing that next year though for this reason.
I sideloaded the instant video and amazon apps from my phone and both installed. I had issues when I attempted to watch a prime video however. Otherwise both apps worked fine.

I think you might be out of date a little. The Amazon store app now allows you to stream Prime video on most Android devices. No additional hacks or sideloading required.
side load apps that work
\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
side loaded apps tested so far
with keyboard and mouse only
maxgo
hbogo
showtime anytime
vudu sd only
Easy way to sideload is goto the playstore in the browser of your pc. Install esfile explorer to the nexus player. The app will not show up on the main page but will be in the setiings/apps. Make sure you have selected unknown sources enabled on the nexus player. Share a folder on your home network from your pc. Place the apk you want to install in that folder. Open esfile manager and goto the lan tab. You shoukd see your folder you shared on your pc. Apk installs no problem. My question is how do you get the installed apps to show up on your nexus player home screen?

Easy way to sideload is goto the playstore in the browser of your pc. Install esfile explorer to the nexus player. The app will not show up on the main page but will be in the setiings/apps. Make sure you have selected unknown sources enabled on the nexus player. Share a folder on your home network from your pc. Place the apk you want to install in that folder.
