[Q] Virtual Desktop Performance - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone have any experience using the Transformer as virtual desktop?
I would love to be able to log in via the browser via windows small business server to run all of my work apps when necesary while on the road.
I read that there was included software to help with this??? (Can't find the review that mentioned it now)
(I apologize if there is a thread somewhere on this!)
Thanks!

That will be my first project once I get mine in, test it with couple of remote desktop apps. I will update you once I write a review!
I use virtual desktop, virtual viewer and pocketcloud on my EVO and they have helped when a PC/windows wasn't available so its worth it. It would be interesting to see how these apps behave on a tablet.

there's a built in app for remote desktop. I'll report back after I get mine friday.

The app built-in (since firmware update 1) is a free version of splashtop. It works very well.

forgive the stupid question...
But with a virtual desktop app, I know you can log into your computer and make the computer do stuff (run programs, open files, etc.).
I only tried it out once a while ago on a phone and it was neat, but altogether too difficult to really use on a phone. However witha tablet, that should be a different story.
My question is, can you load a media file one the computer and will it actually display on your tablet? Could I open Zune up on my computer and play a song and have the sound come through on the tablet? I imagine that's not possible... but a guy can dream can't he?

That is the idea behind splastop but i could be wrong.. if you wait and soon we will have mobile virtualization happening on these devices.

Holy cow, thanks for the fast response. And I just went to splashtop's website... That just looks great, exactly what I would want.

Is it better than Logmein Ignition?

If you are looking for something like RDP, then pocketcloud is good app... which I prefer over a apps like logmein which require installation on the client.

Yes it can do all that. It even streams video files pretty well. It sends the audio to the tablet as long as you set your desktop machine to stereo sound.

I've used both, on my iPhone and now on my Acer (the trial, I'm not gonna buy it when it will be free on my transformer).
If you have a strong wifi connection it's awesome.
It's awesome that ASUS includes it for free.

Since I have a captive audience..
Can you log in, play music, then switch back to the tab and still have the music playing in the background (like if I wanted to browse the web from the tablet's apps while i listen to the music from the remote log in)?

Is there any way to watch You tube video?

I was trying to open with Opera, IE, WMP. Don't really know which application I need to watch it...I believe there is a simple answer for the question. But, I just don't know it...
So, no1 knows?
Watched this topic?

Have you read this?
it seems that all the solutions there are for downloading, converting and then watching. But I need it to work on-fly, without downloading, the way we watch it on our PCs.
Now Windows Mobile Phones Can, so why can't we?
I know I'm getting sick of seeing those stupid Verizon adds for the EnV that shows the huge YouTube logo on the screen, and wondering why my WM phone can't. I know my phone can do hundreds, if not thousands of things, that the EnV can't, but as long as there is ONE thing that a non WM phone can do that mine can't, I feel like less of a man. Where do I sign up mfrazz's 12 step program?
and is there any way to watch p2p tv on ppc like on pc?
I just intalled the newest version on Opera 8.65... its in beta right now... BUT IT PLAYS YOUTUBE videos!!!! WooHoo!!!

Go this site with your device browser. You can even download the videos. And you can search grouper, youtube etc.

Orb Lets You Play YouTube on Your PPC
I use a program called Orb to play YouTube on my PPC. It loads on your home PC, then you use any PPC browser to access it. It's pretty dang sweet. I have had hardly any problems with it.
orb.com
Well, there are a lot of ways to watch you tube video offline on your PPC. For example, you can just download a youtube video using youtube grabber on your PC then convert it to avi using some endcoder, and then watch it with TCMP or Core PLayer.
However, the main point of the thread is to get a way of watching youtube video on-fly being online with you PPC.
So, far the best way of doing that is using new Opera. However, it's not a perfect way
orb is the way to go. orb does it on the fly also. check it out.

It really is. The only problem I found about it is that the PC must always run the application and be online to be able to watch video from PPC, which is sometimes a problem for me. The rest is awsome.
the other nice thing is you can also view your webcam anytime also. I use it for sucurity purposes . very nice feature.

I think downloads are the only way to watch you tube videos. Try this site: mymobileclips.com, free registration, specify the format you want your videos, and you can get Google, Myspace, Ifilm, Dailymotion, Break, Metacafe, too.
I personally believe ORB is by fair the best thing to cross streaming\PPC lines...I have absolutely no problem watching youtube on my PPC using orb, and talk about an iPhone?? Who needs that when you have an 250 gig hdd with movies, music, pictures, and then are able to watch your local cable service thats at home while your out and about on a lunch break, and then to be able to access your PC and browse and download files from anywhere............ORB IS GOD when it comes to media and mobile devices....not to mention to gain access on my xbox 360 using orb as well without switching my external from device to device, and not using the lame media center....orbs great....just thought id mention it.

I've been trying orb and im a bit new to it. But from my understanding, orb will only work if you pre-selected the videos on your PC first right?
Is there any way to watch ANY youtube video? For example if you searched for one and want to watch it, you cant use the standard browser to see it. How does orb come into play for watching videos on demand? Will it only allow us to see videos that we have pre-added on our pc with the orb plugin?

Orb defines videos, pics, audio, files, etc defined in a specifc folder....when you setup orb it then scans the folders to save the content locations onto the orb server, so what ever you put in a specified folder, orb will pull it in for you.
With youtube, just download the plugin on orbs website for IE, install.....then login into orb on your ppc.....go to videos....then it comes up with an search for youtube....google...yahoo...etc, type in what you want to search, it then show it infront of you, click what you want to watch, then click play stream.
No pre-added video for youtube, just an search as if you were at your desktop.

basically you can share stuff over a network or wifi to yer mobile device...that is what AllShare is for.
For example... I can stream (via WiFi) videos from my Windows 7 computer to my Captivate. I can also do the reverse and stream videos from my Captivate to my computer's Windows Media Player or my hacked WDTV media player.

I don't have a PS3, but if you have and want to try it over Windows 7:
For Windows 7->Captivate, you'll need to go to "Network and Sharing Center" and turn on "media streaming" somewhere in there. The files must be added in Windows Media Player's library. In the Captivate, select play from a server.
For Captivate->Windows 7, the Captivate's name shows up in Windows Media Player's left side. Click it and it shows the list of what's on the phone. In Captivate, just start All Share (nothing else).
anyone know how to have All Share NOT stretch the resolution of the incoming video and keep the aspect ratio of the file?

Annoying, isn't it?
In the actual "Video Player" app you can control how the video gets stretched - but not in the AllShare player. Why Samsung would choose to torture us like this is beyond me, but it makes me hate them so very much.
I will pay anyone who can figure out how to hack that size/aspect button from the video player to the allshare player.
Interesting....

EDIT: adb gives me "Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]" when i do this. My phone is rooted. Hmph.
EDIT2: I just tried twonky server. It works perfectly, i think its better than the samsung app, so i'll just be using that. Plus it look cool

If your Ps3 and phone are connected on the same network then they should "see" each other fine. If you scroll down on your Movies category on the Ps3 you will see your phone listed there.
Well, I can see my phone in Movies, Music and Photos on PS3. I can even see the songs and the photos I have on my phone. However, when I try to play a track I get DLNA 2104 error. I can see the thumbnails of the photos but when I try to view it I get a "network error". Is it possbile that this happens because my Netgear router is not configured as an Access Point?

Oh ok. I got that same error as well. Basically you want to make sure that:
A) Your Firewall (whether its 3rd party or just windows xp/ vista/ etc) is set to allow your device (ps3/ phone) to stream and share files.
B) Allow "network and sharing" center's Discovery mode and "file sharing" within Windows (or whatever OS you are running).
c) Also tell your net-gear that your Ps3 and phone are allowed to share files as well. I'm not quite sure how Netgear has their firewall setup. You may have to open DMZ (wouldnt recommend it tho).
I think theres more....ill have to post back when i remember all my steps...lol
a) What the Firewall on my computer has to do with the connection between the phone and PS3?
b) Similar to a). It's about the phone and the PS3 not the computer, right?
c) I'm not sure how do I do that.

[Q] Stream PC audio to Windows Phone

Hi,
I would like to be able to hear all my Windows PC sounds on my Windows Phone via Wifi. Ive been searching for quite long time now with no luck. Anyone knows better?
Cheers

Not an audio only, but video (transcoding "on the fly") and pics too
Neat! Thank you! Will give it a try as son as i can
but if isnt it too much to ask, isnt there any free alternative?
also my initial thought (belive i wasnt very clear) was to use the phone as a kind of "wireless headphone" since i could watch game stream, online web radio and so on w/o beeing in front of the pc.
Qloud doesnt seems to do that, or am i mistaken?

No. With QloudMedia you can stream existing audio/video files to your handset. To be able watch something directly from you PC screen, you may try any remote desktop apps (but they are also paid).

App advice!

Hello All,
This is my first android operating system, was always apple and windows before. I am loving my new TF700 and already found 4share.
My question is advice on apps to help me out. I have a home theater PC filled with thousands of movies, what is the best way to stream it to my tablet? Also, is there a good app for downloading things from my PC over wifi?
I saw that this tablet came with something called Splashtop, is that the best way to remote desktop? Or should I be looking for something else.
Sorry if these sound like n00b questions, I just thought this would be the best place to ask since we are all using the same device and I thought some/most of you have already found something good to fill this gap.
Thanks!
you can stream with a file manager, such as File Manager HD. I use BSPlayer to stream my blu ray collection.
you can also copy items from your pc to device by using File Manager HD as well. Just go to settings, LAN connection and scan until you find it. Then just put in your credentials. On your pc, just make sure you set the sharing permissions accordingly.
Im not sure abut splashtop, i use ubuntu, but i hear its a good app.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
Sth called MyNet comes preinstalled, it uses DLNA. You can try Movie Browser HD too, for example. There's bunch of similar apps for that, search the market in case these two don't satisfy your needs.
Remember to switch DLNA on on your PC.

The best one I ever used is VPlayer, it's way better than BSPlayer which volume is significantly lower. Its UI is way better, you just swipe to right or left to get local, streaming from media servers or urls. Try it.
Servio and Plex runnng on my home server covers all my needs server side. I stream to a host of different tablets, phones, remote access browsers, and google TV. Plex is my preferred method, but also use Bubbleupnp To stream and download from the Servio server software.
the mynet one on the stock infinity turned out to be great ! thanks guys . im really intrested in buying a roku and running things to more devices now

[Q] How to mirror my PC screen to my Nexus 5?

Hi Everyone,
Most people are asking how to mirror their phone's screen to a TV or PC monitor. Well I need to do the opposite. Does anyone know how I can mirror my PC screen to my Nexus 5? I am looking for the option with the least lag, even if it is via USB and not wireless.

I would say your best bet would be to use Chrome Remote Desktop. Download the app on your phone, and download the chrome extension on your PC.

It has worked the best for me out of all the similar apps (i.e teamviewer). However, it depends on what you need it for. For example, if you want to mirror videos it might not work well.
You can try splashtop, it usually is pretty smooth https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote.pad.v2&hl=en
or even microsoft's own remote desktop app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.rdc.android

Thanks a lot, splashtop works reasonably well. I have an AMD video card, so I suppose that helps a bit.
I do not need the desktop controls, etc. I need so to say, just use my phone as a monitor, so if I can find something with even better quality and sacrificing those controls it would be even better

The quality will all be down to the network on both ends.
So the download speed of your phone and the upload speed of your home internet. If these are weak you will always experience problems.
Apps like teamviewer help as they connect to a middle man server which means you are less likely to see as big a delay than connecting directly where the connection as I said above is more dependant.
Not used splashtop personally. Microsoft's RDP is alright but I'm happy with Teamviewer i use it on all my pc's i work on. Having it on my mobile just means I can work from anywhere remotely.

Ok. So I was wandering if there is a way to do that via USB in order to avoid the internet issues, of course only if it can get better. I am not sure exactly what bandwidth is needed to stream my 1080p screen and if it can be done smoothly via micro USB.
Other than that I have an acceptable amount of lag with splashtop, yet it crashes if I go full screen on my PC for some programs (I tried a few games too). But running in windowed mode works fine.
