[Q] - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Okay, So I just rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my Verizon Galaxy S III and tried to flash Cyanogenmod 10 (the latest on on rom manager) and its now stuck on the boot animation. I created a backup before I did this through rommanager but when I try to utilize it, it says the file is empty. HELP PLEASE!! :crying:

Rom Manager strikes again. lol Odin back to stock and start over.

You should always be sure to check the total size of the backup file before continuing with low level flashing. With the SGS III CWM has been notorious for not working properly with recovery processes. I switched over to TWRP after my dilemma with CWM.
So yeah, ODIN back to stock and start over.
Be thankful you only have a bootloop and not a total brick.

Well I ended up reflashing the stock rom last night then tried to unlock bootloader again and when I started the ez unlock app it said my phone didnt have root access. So I rooted again the same way I did the first time and now when I try to launch the app it just sits there with a white screen. So then I downloaded a rootchecker app from the market and it says I dont have root access which is probably why the EZ_Unlock app isnt working properly. Thoughts?

That worked! So now that I've pretty much back to step one, is there anything I should watch out for while trying to flash another ROM? Maybe any ROM suggestions? Thanks

Just flash the ROM yourself in recovery, don't count on RM.

Ill for sure keep that in mind.

Once you get on CM10 their built in updater works pretty well. I haven't heard anyone complain except for the fact it doesn't do an autobackup for you, it just dirty flashes it.

Replacement phone arrived with 2.2, now screwed

My replacement phone came with Froyo already on it. Rooted using 1-click, but when I try to install CWM I get the not signed error. What's the easiest way to get CWM working so I can flash Cog 4 or Andromeda (probably Andromeda)? I looked at the 3e thread, but as I have no apps installed yet I have no Root Explorer or TiBU to be able to follow those directions. Should I 1-click Odin back to JF6? Is that even working on 2.2?

You got it. One-click, wipe, root, install CWM, flash to Cog/Andromeda/Serendipity.
That's impressive that they shipped you one with 2.2 already. I guess when it rains it pours!

Is Odin recognizing the phone when it's connected? Also, do you have USB debugging turned on and is the internal SD unmounted? I flashed mine to the Samsung/AT&T 2.2 and was able to use Odin to get back to stock, so I know it ought to work.

No dumb questions at this point. I have the zip on the internal SD card. I don't have the external installed at this point. Just tried Odin3 again, just sitting at "analyzing files..." I downloaded it, I think. Is it Captivate_SGS_Tools_45.apk?
I used SuperOneClickRoot to root my phone and then used 3eRecoveryInstaller that I found on here that someone put together using Vibrant fix to remove the signature check and the wipe when installing and update.zip. Haven't flashed clockwork yet to see if it works because I dont' have time to reflash if it fails because I have to work tonight.

It's not an app... You can't install ROMs using that app unless you have CWM installed (and working).

[Q] Houston, boy do I have a problem!

Just rooted my new SGS3 using New Root Method Released for Verizon’s Galaxy S3, No Odin Required. i did the data & kelvic wipe then install Clean Rom 5.0. All progressed without a hitch. Even backed up with CWM prior to flash.
I rebooted into the new rom and got this: System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless... rebooted several time with same result.
What can I do now? Thanks for your help.
Just a wild guess, but me thinks your bootloader is still locked! But I'm not sure that will even apply because I rooted my device before unlocking the bootloader. But I rooted my device via ODIN first.
You can try EZ-Unlock via the Market. The GUI is still very buggy and will show the status as unknown but the internal workings of the app works good.
You got nothin to loose in trying. Go back to stock and give it another whirl after you've unlocked the bootloader.
Of that fails then I would suggest using the tried and true method..ODIN.
G'luck!
yup your bootloader is still locked
check the downloads thread and use version 1.2.
That means your boatloader is locked. You now must Odin back to stock and start over. Droid style has a guide stickied in the development thread. Follow section 6 of it.
Next time use ez unlock version 1.2 to unlock you boatloader.

I should have backed it up before attempting it, I know I know lol can anyone shed some light on how to update a flashed phone as well as how to root it. I could really use the help
Also after I messed up the boost flash I paniced and flashed a sprint kernel hoping this would fix the problem. Since then anything that I've tried to view including taking camera shots and web browsing if done in landscape mode will be upside down, any remedy for this problem? I know now... root first, flash later.

[Q] I can only boot to Odin

Okay - I pulled a real stupid move today and need some help.. I'm somewhat of a flashing noob.
I installed AOKP 4.2 the other day and was having issues, so I decided to try a Synergy Rom. I use Clockword Mod Recovery to do this. When going in to flash Synergy I noticed the recovery wasn't accessing the SD like it usually does. It was giving me some error code about not being able to read external SD (I dont even have one in the phone I only use internal storage). So eventually I found the synergy file on the internal storage and flashed it. So I flashed it and was having all sorts of issues like no data, FC's etc and went back into recovery to flash my backup of the AOKP 4.2 ROM.
Here's my stupid part - I was in a rush at work this morning and wiped data / cache and got side tracked. Came back and thought I had flashed the new rom and hit restart phone in the recovery. So now I have nothing installed on the phone and the only thing I can get it to do is boot into the Download screen in Odin.
If this helps, the screen in Odin says:
Odin Mode
Product Name: SCH-I535
Custom Binary Download: Yes (2 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
I have downloaded Odin to my computer and plugged it and tried to flash this .tar file and get a new recovery this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 and had no luck as it errors out in Odin. When I connect the phone to Odin I get 0:[COM5] with a yellow colored background towards the top. I still tried to follow the above link's steps and it just errors out.
I'm at wits end and have no idea what to do now. If anyone has any idea, I would REALLY appreciate help. I have been searching for hours and haven't come up with anything that can really replicate my complete issue. I can chat via Gchat if thats easier or whatever, I just really need to get this fixed!
Thanks
Why are you trying to flash something intended for the international GSIII on your Verizon GSIII?
Had to state that cuz it is a terrible way to go about fixing your phone. Flash the rooted VRBKL3 tar in mrRobinson's thread in the Verizon GSIII dev section and then unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v1.2. If you didn't successfully flash anything for the i93000 then you should be fine in a few mins.
Edit: that thread you linked to even says what models it works for in the third line of the OP! lol

Yes sir, flash it via Odin. There are two rooted tars per image: wipe and no wipe. It's all detailed in mrRobinson's thread. You're in an easily recoverable situation. Just make sure to unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v1.2 and install a custom recovery if need be.

[Q] Stuck on CWM Recovery Everytime

Hello everyone,
It's my first time witnessing this issue, I do have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. So I decided to upgraded Eclairs to Gingerbread. Which I did.
Somehow I downloaded the CM7 ROM in the SGS 4G section, I have flashed it and now everytime I click "reboot system now", it's just putting me back to CWM Recovery over and over again. Now I got tired of it, so I tried flashing the SlimBean in hopes of making my device work the way they should, but it's the same result. When I cleared data, flashed the ROM and Gapps and when I click "reboot system now", It shows the boot screen but then it transferred me back to recovery. I don't really know what to do.
Urgent help needed. Thank you all.

Yes I can, also tried it with CM9, same results it shows recovery everytime. I need some help. :crying:
You say you went from Eclair (Did this phone even come with that? I thought it started with Froyo. Huh. At least, mine did.) to Gingerbread. Is the Gingerbread you started with CM7, or did you start with one that actually has normal GB bootloaders first? Because if you haven't yet, as with any major bootlooping issue, you'll want to use a proper GB one-click. If you failed to double-flash one of those to get the GB bootloaders earlier, do that ASAP. And hope hard that they come.
You are missing the boot loader if you went straight to Gingerbread. Use Heimdall One Click to flash to Gingerbread. Also click on the bootloader option as well when you flash.

[Q] Need some help... rooted my phone, then received OTA update JZO54K.I535VRBMF1...

Hello,
Need some help here... I am a newbie... I had rooted my phone to unlock and use data while traveling in Europe with the below instructions... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 .... worked great!
I installed VRBLK3 (last update) before I received the VRBMF1 OTA update last night which automatically updated my phone. I am faced with error saying Unauthorized Software on phone, goto Verizon.
I am unable to boot into Odin Recovery Mode, but I can boot into Odin mode. I am unable to perform any steps to flash my phone again and then load the latest update manually via Odin.
What am I missing here? Thoughts? Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason
Your bootloader wasn't unlocked correctly and the update sure did mess up it up as it updated while you are rooted.
You can odin it just takes time as soon pull out the battery as soon as you out it in hold power, volume up and home. You should get into odin so you can flash a stock image.

Use the ODIN program and then download the stock image from rootzwiki (or here at XDA if its posted)
Plug your phone into the USB port of a computer and then run the ODIN program. Then post the entire .tar package in the PDA section after your phone gets recognized (you'll need to boot into download mode, which is volume down+power+home).
Read the guide over at XDA for a better explanation. Here's the URL.

I can get into Odin Download Mode, but I can't get into Odin Recovery (it gives me error in upper left corner ... SECURE FAIL: KERNEL).
When I get into Odin Download Mode and I hook it up to my laptop, it doesn't recognize the device even though I have the drivers loaded on my laptop.
Thoughts?
It should still work. Check the USB drivers in device manager.

OK, so I've just been deferring the update. Just wanted to know if there is a way to get the update without having to unroot my phone first. I'd really rather not run through the motions of doing the whole unroot-reroot process but this update is bugging me.

I was rooted (stock), took the OTA (a no no but did it anyway) this locked the bootloader and i lost root.
I used this one click to unlock bootloader, gain root AND install TWRP custom recovery and it worked FLAWLESSLY!

what? how is that possible? what were the steps you took? where did things go wrong?
if you can get into odin you should be ok. just flash the stock image and use the one-click method. but be careful i am reading about the one click casual method causing hard bricks on some devices.

I followed everything. started the update, it reset and i got a "system software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help." About to go in and odin now.
sorry about that bro. that process worked for me and a buddy of mine flawlessly. are you able to get into odin mode?
I deleted that post. I really still don't understand what went wrong. I have used these apps successfully MANY times in the past.
let me know how it all works out.

Just went all the way back to stock. Had to erase everything. Luckily I have most of my stuff on my SD card and my TiBu backup so not all is lost. Sucks I ended up having to do what I didn't want just for an update.

That's interesting. The same exact thing happened to me. I was rooted, running stock, accepted the ota, lost root but it left the bootloader unlocked. And then the next time I powered up my phone I saw Verizon had given me an unlocked icon and it says custom under it. I originally rooted my phone using that one click casual so now I'm really not sure if I should use it to root again. Any thoughts?

If you want root, then root. Preexisting root tools still work on the latest VRBMF1 ota. You can check if you're still rooted by downloading Root Checker from the store.
