Screen cracked, where to get fixed, running simple mobile? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Just wondering what to do and where to get fixed. I dropped it today and the screen is totally shattered but the phone still works. I run with simple mobile and have no insurance or warranty.
1) Where should I get fixed?
2) How much should I expect to pay?
I'm located in Suffolk, Long Island.

Buy the digitizer on Ebay and do it yourself. Tons of videos on YouTube and this forum about doing it. super easy and only costs about 20-30 bucks, depending on shipping

If worst comes to worst I will do it myself but that is a last resort. I really don't have time for the buying/mailing game so its worth the extra $ to just have it fixed locally, thank you though. Anyone else?

Anybody?

it would be alot cheaper and overall easier just to doit yourself.
If you do go down that road, just be sure to get the proper adhesive so you dont get dust between the digitizer and screen.

My g2x is cracked 2 but u should fix it your self cuz lil stores try to earn way more than what the actual digitizer is worth... i fix phones as a hobby so instead of paying a guy 100 bucks to fix it just buy the $25 digitizer on ebay or 2 and watch how to do it on YouTube

It is easy to replace
I broke my digitizer 3 times now (im not proud of this) and all 3 times I replaced it myself buying the part off of Ebay (they also sell it on amazon for a little more). The previous posters are right, it is easy. Look it up on youtube and go step by step through the process. There are some things that helped me out.
1. You will be given 2 options for buying your digitizer. One is with the bezel and one is just the digitizer. I just bought the digitizer and some difficulties removing it from the bezel. What helps is a hot air gun and patience. Hair dryer did nothing for me.
2. Get double sided sticky tape and be organized. There is nothing more frustrating than missing a couple of screws.
3. Be gentle. It does not take much to remove the clips or anything else on the device. If it’s really hard you might be doing it wrong.
4. Get a good set of micro screw drivers. The ones in the kit didn’t work. They hurt my fingers and stripped heads more than they took out screws. The set is not expensive and worth the money.
5. Have super glue. Maybe I'm an n00b but the adhesive they give you for attaching your new digitizer to the bezel never worked. Super glue worked the best for me. Always remember with adhesive less is more.
If you are patient and take things one at a time it should only take you an hour and save a lot of money. I’ve replaced a couple of different phone screens and the G2x was by far the easiest. You have nothing to lose at this point. Go for it and you will surprise yourself :victory:

[Q] Broken the glass on my Captivate

This literally happend about 3 minutes ago. My dog bolted for the door and took out my legs from behind me which sent my phone flying out of my hand. It looks like just the glass is broken as the screen and touch screen still work perfectly.
So has anyone replaced the front screen? Is it replaceable? This pisses me off to no end as the phone didnt have a single mark or scratch on it and I just got approved for a brand new replacement to be picked up tomorrow at my local ATT store, to remedy the random shut off and random search key press.
I thought the Gorilla glass is unbreakable!!!!????

<shrug> I've hit mine many times with a 20 pound sledgehammer and it looks like new.
It is replacable just have to order a screen and follow a guide

$89.99! Only paid $79.99 for it in the first place! Ahh well.
Damn dog.
As I was already approved for replacement, do you think ATT will still swap it?
Not with damaged glass. I'd pay 87 to fix it n a heart beat
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Yeah and if I call and ask, it'll be on file so I'll never get to replace it if need be in the future.
Wonder if I could pull the glass from a non functioning demo version. Or is the glass not just a cover?
Nope, its a pretty involved process requiring a complete teardown
accidental damage insurance
you better get it! $5 a month!
Any recommended places to purchase a screen from and where can I find a good guide. There are a few out there, but as we all know, not everything is created equal.
If you go to an AT&T store it probably won't end up being on file (you don't even have to tell them who you are if they say "no"). Also, since gorilla glass is supposed to be nearly indestructible, it doesn't hurt to try to get it replaced under warranty (sounds like a manufacturing flaw/defect to me), the worst they can do is tell you "no."

$5 per month plus a $90 deductible to replace the phone... $5 x 24 mo. = $120 + $90 = $210. I guess $210 is cheaper than buying a replacement off-contract, but $90 for a new piece of glass is a better deal...
With a deductable it adds up. I always fix them myself when they break a lot cheaper

Lcd and digitizer replacement.

So I've done this on countless phones, dx, inc, d1, d2, Inc2, fascinate, and others. I've tried on two tbolt's songwriter and each one i've cracked the lcd while separating the digitizer from the phone... Turning a 20 dollar repair into a 50 dollar repair. Anyone have any tips? I am thinking that I'm just going to have to change both right off the get go from now on, like the fascinate. Has anyone else done this without cracking the lcd?

Are you using a heatgun to separate the digitizer from the LCD? Otherwise there's not much you can do to make it easier aside from buying it pre-assembled.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3rjgVsSWxQ
i'd gladly pay $50 to have my screen fixed as opposed to not having the option at all. it'd be nice to have to pay only $20 but you can recoup that $50 if/when you choose to sell the phone.
I know, but the first phone was a friends, I quoted him thirty for the fix, broke the lcd and ended up paying twenty to fix his phone. The second phone I bought for 80, and broke the lcd so now I'll have 130 into a phone ill be lucky to sell for 200

Several of the newer Htc phones are going to be really difficulty to do just the digit. I personally haven't done a tb but just about every other phone. Like the other response said, you've gotta use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive but not so much that you cook the LCD. There's a fine line, you just have to find it.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Yea the Inc 2 was a pain in the ass with the ribbon cable behind the lcd, I flexed the lcd on that phone a ton with no problems, I don't even see myself flexing the tbolt's lcds and when I get the phone back together I have a dead lcd. Ohwell, I did have a buzz going on during the first one, maybe by the time I do three it won't be an issue. Has anyone ever had an issue with the cheap eBay digi's? There are some tbolt ones on there for ten bucks shipped lol

So you expect to be up $50 for fixing two. You valued your time/effort at $10 per on the first one. What's the problem? If that's not enough, don't do any more.
It's a hobby bud, I honestly don't care, just asking for tips.

Be careful when prying the lcd out of the frame bc i damaged one of the 2 backlights lol......I would just pry from the top and sides. Heat gun is key.....i was careful and still cracked the lcd....lol.

broke my screen

Broke my screen and looked on ebay for a replacement. What I can't figure out is why there is such a big price difference on all these screens. There are some for 20 all the way up to 100. Can someone chime in on this?

Depends if new or used, the source of the screen, counterfeit or real and also simply what the sellers think they can get.

ones that are legit are going for at least mid 50s I believe on ebay.
The reason there is such a price difference is because you are looking at two different products. I broke my screen last week, but it was only the top layer of glass(called the digitizer) that broke, which only costs $15-20. If you managed to break the glass and the LCD, however(if your screen won't turn on, or is massively discolored), then you need a full LCD replacement, which is much more expensive, costing closer to $150. Hope that helps

There's a seller on eBay that has the model phones for cheap. I paid around $15 shipped for one when i replaced the digitizer on my inc1. Complete shell, battery cover and all, except the lcd and guts

Got mine from ebay for about 55bucks. Complete set. Plug and play. Even came with tools to get the job done and a step by step video. Can't go wrong. Much easier and safer to just replace both LCD and digitizer.

just bought the digitizer for 15 bucks shipped with all the tools. lets see how complicated it is to change this thing when i get it lol

I have replaced a screen in a Thunderbolt and Incredible 2. It isn't really very difficult just do a search on YouTube for a video with instructions, have a bright light and in my case a magnifying glass! (Old eyes)

What exactly, is broken on my phone?

Last night my S3 fell face first cracking the screen. Well the thing is, what exactly is cracked? Glass, LCD, or (most likely not) Digitizer? The phone works and the only damage would be a screen with cracks Lol. I would take it through insurance (best buys) but at the moment me and the account holder (brother in law) aren't on speaking terms, I'm sure I need him to replace my phone, even though I do still have the receipt and such.
Please help, and thank you.
Edit: I'm also rooted and have a custom ROM. My USB cable went out on me, so I can't Odin to stock anyways.
Note: yes this is a screenshot, the picture was uploaded to Facebook from my iPod, and screenshoted by my s3.

If the screen lights up with no dead spots or stuck pixels and the touch still works, I would say just the glass.

I believe the digitizer & glass are replaced as a unit. You can replace just the glass if you'd like to try it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708
But sometimes it just pays to replace the Assembly, and pay the extra bucks
If you search, I'm sure there are reputable places that will supply & install the set up for about $100?
Maybe a lot more? I don't know what the actual prices are for the S3 assembly.
An estimate I received from a local shop when I had my S2 on Sprint awhile ago was $85.
I mention the above cost way because it appears you can't have your BinLaw do it at this time, for whatever the Best Buy cost would be, if any.
When I received my estimate, there were 2 types of connectors used, so the dealer had to be sure he had the correct one in stock.
I believe I ended up going through Asurion at the time.
I just did a quick search and found this:
http://www.emicronsolutions.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-blue-lcd-digitizer-assembly.html
Yikes!!
You may want to have a temporary truce, and speak with your BinLaw
I would take it to Best Buy, cause they will probably just give you a Brand new phone(well usually they do) and i think the LCD is fine, just the glass is cracked
You can buy just the glass and replace just that. Need a heat gun or hair dryer and an exacto knife. The only thing is be careful with the heat because u can lose color on the LCD if you fry one spot too long. There are videos online. It took me a little over 30 Min to replace. The glass costed $20 and the gun was 25.. Cheaper than insurance replacement. And if u bought the 2 together that's almost 200.

Hi, I do phone repairs for a living.
The digitizer is part of the glass. The display panel (which is not an LCD, but an AMOLED) is a separate piece. They come from the factory as one entire assembly though.
The assembly is very expensive as there are no aftermarket alternatives available.
There is a thread here on xda and also one of my local competitors does glass-only replacements. However, I don't think this is a very good idea. I've personally done touchscreen replacements on more than 10 S3s and while I've never tried to replace just the glass, it seems more difficult, time consuming, and higher risk. It's much easier and faster to just replace the whole unit and doing it this way results in higher quality workmanship with greater consistency.
If insurance is not an option, expect to pay $250 or higher if you replace the entire touchscreen, whether you do it yourself or pay someone else too.
There are benefits to paying someone: it's much quicker than waiting for a box in the mail (I can do it in about 20 mins), a shop may warranty the display (even if for a short time), and we won't give a **** if you've rooted your phone.
But i believe the Bestbuy insurance he has doesn't require a deductible so it wouldnt cost him anything to replace, i could be wrong though

[Q] broken glass

Hello, well I drop my infuse last week and crack just the glass. A guy I know that works at a cell phone repair store sold me a $10 glass for my phone. Well I've started reading and they say that the glass and LCD are fuse together. Is there away to just repair the glass. I thought maybe taking my hot knife and carefully cutting just around the edge and then take a long thin boxcutter ( I've got one as long as the phone and it really thin) and heating up the blade and very carefully slide down while my girlfriend runs a hair blower up and down the screen.
I thought I take the blade and my hot gluegun and make some grips on the sides of the razor blade so I don't cut my hand. What do you guys think of this.
If you know of someone that has done it and can give me there names so I can PM them that be great. One thing thought I don't wont to mess the phone up. This is all I have until the SG4 comes out in the states. Which should be in a few days but I've got to wait until after the 3rd to be able to pay for it. Thanks for reading this.
By the way, could they do it at a cellphone store or would they also need to buy the LCD digitizer to fix it.
Google is your friend in this matter. There are several good sites and YouTube videos related to replacing a screen readily available online. Best of luck in replacing it
Sent from my Carbon-ized Infuse
If you just cracked the glass and see no bleeding from the LCD you can just replace the glass but its a pain in the ass separating it from the LCD without cracking it. My suggestion is to use a really hot blow dryer or a heat gun preferably..separate them, then you'll have to re-adhere the new glass to the LCD. If you have super glue you can use it but use very very little or you'll ruin the screen. I would recommend buying an infuse specific glass replacement adhesive sticker thing on eBay. They're less than 5 bucks  if you need any help feel free to pm me.

What about using a real thin guitar string. You think that might be better to use since the string will give a little and with the razor it might nic the LCD. What do you guys think.
