After seeing the Release of NVFlash and Having to use it once on my nearly bricked TF201 Prime, I wanted it Though having rushed my updates I was already on .30 and Sunk, So I whined like the rest on the Boards and IRC then saw people complaining after JB updates about Issues with Wifi and so on, So I took mine back to Best Buy which it has been out of Warranty for over a month and they swapped it out for me no questions asked.
It was Unlocked and Rooted which I don't think the Lady behind the Counter noticed, She allowed me to do a Factory Wipe which I did in TWRP before swapping them
Needless to Say I'm linking Best Buy more and More..

Best Buy honors manufacture's warranty, basically say it's a manufacturing defect (whatever the defect is) and they will swap it, and send the "defective" unit to ASUS for fixing.

No it has to be the same model(ish) - I think minimum it has to be from the same manufacturer. If you want to try the Note 10.1 go to a bestbuy and try it (it's on display).
Having just done the same, I can say that I really really really dig that it has 2 GB of RAM and seems really built towards multitasking. Makes Android feel a bit more like Windows or OS X in the very least a much more polished UI.
It comes with a feature called multi-screen which from what I've read has some limitations but is a really great idea which Samsung has bundled in. You can at any time tap 'multiscreen' and it splits the screen into 2 (vertically, so side by side).
I watch it run 4-5 apps at once and have most of them overlayed on top of each other and completely viewable / readable. While doing all this the transisition between was nearly seamless but the performance was undoubtably better than my I/O burdened TFI.
It's build quality is cheaper but it really felt like a powerhouse unit. If it had a physical keyboard dock I've probably drop this TF700T like a hot potato and gobble one up.
I think they have a 30 day guarantee so if you're in that time frame you'd probably be able to return it and grab the Note.
EDIT: I guess it does have a keyboard dock .. definitely going to have to take a closer look now =)

The Note 10.1 has a keyboard dock? I haven't seen a keyboard dock mentioned before - even if there is one, I'm fairly certain that it does not come close to matching the functionality of the TF700 dock, that's for sure.
Regarding the "multi-window" functionality - don't get too excited. It only works with certain apps and the way I understand it, there is no way to resize the "windows" either. For example, you can't even run two browsers side-by-side. It is *very* limited (again, from what I'm heard - I don't own the Note 10.1).
In my opinion, a much better solution (which can be done on any Android tablet) is to use what they call "floating" apps - these are basically windowed apps that run on Android - there is a browser, a terminal emulator, a notepad, a calculator, a IM client, etc - basically, all of the apps that would actually be useful to run in a window. These windows can be resized, overlapped, minimized, maximized, etc - just like the windows on a Windows machine. I have the feeling that we'll be seeing many more apps like this in the future as well. Even the Dice app (for movies) has a "windowed" mode now.
EDIT: Ok, so I looked it up and while the Note 10.1 *does* have a keyboard dock, it is not even close to the TF700 dock in terms of functionality. No battery in the dock, no SD card slot, no USB port, no trackpad. Plus there is no way to keep it attached while being mobile (it doesn't fold up like the TF700 does from what I could tell), so it's not nearly as convenient. Certainly not a replacement for the TF700+dock. Believe me, I really wish that there were other products with the features and functionality of the TF700+dock - it would be great to have a choice between different manufactures. However, the TF700 is currently in a class all by itself with the FHD screen and the awesome keyboard dock...

If you cant swap the infinity for the note on the first swap. I guess if you really wanted, swap the tablet for a new infinity. Then the new infinity will have a new 30day (60 days if your silver premier), you can just not open it and say you dont like it and want to return it for something else.
Why do people abuse this?
Having sent back my prime though Best Buy I agree the policy they have with Asus is really great and I will continue to use them as long as they are afloat but I have to point out that the abuse of this policy will eventually lead to its demise.
If you have a LEGITIMATE problem with your tablet, by all means bring it back and swap it as the policy allows (i.e. for whatever you want). However those of you using the manufactures defect policy beyond the 30 day period for return and trying new units are in violation of BB's policy. Screwing with returns when you have no manufacturer defect other than those you already knew were there is wrong and considered stealing by many.
Not a BB rep, just trying to keep a good thing going.

Going to have to disagree here, their demise has nothing to do with their return policies. Do you think that BB really loses any money from this exchange? The manufacturer is ultimately going to refund the amount that BB paid for the "dysfunctional" products. BB does not lose out on anything. They are in trouble for a host of other reasons... none of which are the returns. As a matter of fact, they recently increased the return window on all products and changed policies to allow a more relaxed return process.

I agree with you on this is not what is sinking Best Buy, but your point that the money is coming from Asus does not make the OP's indiscretion on rushing updates as a reason to abuse Best Buy's good will. Restricting NVflash on the device might not be a widely accepted policy, but it is a known issue here and if you know it then your gaming the system from one company to stick it to another.
I don't think this will sink BB (like they need any help), but I do think that enough people swapping out 6 month old equipment to try the next cool device will end the manufacturers defect return policy.

LOL. You need to learn to read. He didn't say it would lead to BB's demise. He said abuse of the policy could very well lead to the demise OF THE POLICY. Which makes a ton of sense. Returning a bunch of non-defective units as warranty repairs could eventually cause the manufacturers to push back on BB to change their policy or become more rigid in their enforcement of it. Wide spread abuse of the policy will probably yield a change in said policy. Make sense?

Wow... patronizing much? I read it, not correctly the first time mind you, but he was talking about the policy that BB has for Asus products. They have that policy for all products, and it recently was changed to allow it to be more relaxed than it was. As far as BB returning a bunch non-defective units..... it may have the exact opposite effect you seem to think it would and cause Asus to re- think their quality control for their tablet roms. If asus releases an update that blatantly restricts the use of a software that can protect from the bricking of a $500+ device than I'm all for taking advantage of any policy out there and hopefully that trickles back to asus for being dumb. Cover your own ass cus nobody will cover it for you.

O.K. fellas lets take it back a bit, just chatting here. I guess you might be right, I would certainly be happy if Asus put more time into testing these releases on a wide variety of tablets for a long period of time or perhaps in the wild like they did with the Prime back around the early ICS versions. Remember how many updates it took to get that to marginal performance? There were lots of Ranters back then (I personally was in denial over the Prime's sketchy performance), but Gary did some limited betas with updates that went to a group of XDA members and I thought that was a great plan. Get the stock ROM's on systems with many configurations to see how they perform, then reconfigure and then release. Alas the real problems there were based on large variance in production and the antenna issues so problems remain for the TF201. Although my BB replacement TF700 is much better and I think this is true for most TF700's, the model of limited beta testing like the Devs here do with releases really would go a long way towards making this a smoother process for those less inclined to **** around with settings and the like.
At least I haven't found a thread in this forum about drilling holes in the back of my $500 tablet...
I tried this yesterday and my best buy said that they thought the screen popping out want a manufactures defect... I pointed the girl who was attending me towards forums of a bunch of people with the same issue then she started saying they didn't cover it... I'll try again at another local best buy but she was being stupid.

The multi wimdow functionallity on note 10.1 is fore sure better than floating apps ,on the jellybean update it adds resizing and support for big number of apps including YouTube, camera,and allot of Google apps, yes on ics it is limited but on the leaked jelly been it is much more advanced than anything else add for that the s pen . Tf700 is a good device on paper but in actual usage the fhd screen consumes much of the processors performence which makes the device laggy sometimes +1gb of ram isn't enough nowdays

so i ended up buying at my local best buy. i was surprised they had both the tablet and dock in stock. also the thirve. this was almost a week ago. but anyhow. i have not had any issues so far, but im seeing people with issues... should i just return it that i still have time. or should i just keep it and get a extended warranty?

yeah the only problems i see that most people are having is light bleed and creaking within the case. if you don't have any of these then i suggest you keep it. No matter what device you go to next there will always be some issue as I have yet to come across a perfect phone/tablet.

Definetaly no doubts. Beautiful piece of equipment, the Transformer.
Though it is a fact that within a year I'd like to have another tablet, since the ones we are not seeing are first-stage devices, not much more than prototypes. Devices two years from now will have 5 times the memory capacity, 2-3 times the power, better and more responsive screens, much more mature apps etc. And can probably do things we can only guess now.
But I plan to last 2 years before the next device. Well, maybe.

the ONLY place i want to hear creaking is sitting out front at Cracker Barrel in one of those large rocking chairs.
i just dont want to encounter problems. and there seems to be quiet a bunch. my tablet doesnt have any. at the moment. but i dont want it to mess up later on. hardware wise. but i like it. i really do. just known issues put me at that place where i think if i should return it or hope for the best. and for the second time i dont like ipads... over sized ipod. i already have a iPod.
and im not a trend whore... if i was i would of gone with a recently released galaxy tab...
All devices have problems. The ipad2 has screen bleed. Get over it. I traded my ipad 2 for a transformer. While it worked well, the lack of functionally killed it. It is overly simplified so much that if becomes bothersome. iTunes also kills it. A tablet pc shouldn't have to rely on another PC foo function.
Same with the Samsung galaxy 10.1.... lack of ports. The thrive looks huge. Unless that tablet packs something magical, eh. Thing looks like if came straight from 1999.

Uh no? He specifically stated that this doubt occurred when he read all of the horror stories about it.
Service at Asus is terrible. Long wait times (some have stated up to or more than a month "Waiting for Parts"), some people claim they blamed damages that were caused either by the service center or the post office on them. If they find a single ding on the bezel they'll send it back to you as out of warranty. One lady had hers come back with a gash on the back.
The list goes on. You don't want to deal with them. You also have to pay money to send it back to them.
If you're doubting your purchase now, I would return it.
What the OP is experiencing is the Buyers Remorse, we all went through that stage in a way or another.
Just play with it for a fewdays, if didn't get over it just return it. I myself ordered a transformer from the new egg, almost a month ago, however it turned out that they don't accept international credit card, so my money is stuck, I am supposed to cash it in a week time or so, meanwhile I had the time to investigate couple of new tablets that came to the market, the Galaxy and the Thrive, but looks like I will stick to the Transformer and reorder it back.

i have absolutely no problems with mine and am loving it. the development community is great and they are putting in allot of hard work to get really great features. ASUS sends out firmware updates often and keeps them opensource which is really nice. If you do go to get one try to get a model that says B60 it seems to have the least problems. If you get a B70 there is about a 50/50 chance you wont be able to root because of some changes asus made. Most if not all of the issues people reported in the early shipments have been fixed. you may have some lightbleed but that is pretty much standard on all tablets.

may i ask how to and where to look for the B60/70 number at?
should say it on the box near the serial/model number
i'm also quite happy with the tablet, the dock makes it a very viable netbook replacement for me, the (so far) consistent updates from asus are a welcome change from samsung's poor support. the only small gripes i have with it are more related to honeycomb's unfinished/rushed/beta state, but i'm hoping those issues will be rectified in ICS.
I love it but frankly if you won't use the keyboard dock extensively, I recommend the tab 10.1

On the Box. it will be the beginning characters of the serial number.
I do think the best feature of this tablet is that it has a dock.. makes it a good netbook replacement (or so I'd think, only had a laptop before this!).
In terms of computing ability, it's probably at, or slightly better than my laptop, since my laptop is pretty damn old in technological terms (3 or 4 years old, so like 10 technological generations ago!).
I do miss some things on the TF. Netflix (which I'm going to root and use, once I feel ready to void my warranty), the ability to play one stupidly addicting game, and programming environments. Actually, it'd be awesome if there was an app for G-code/Labview/MatLab, but I guess I could always root and get ubuntu for those.

Super: I've had a Xoom and a Tab and now the TF. For the money you will not find a better tablet. Very functional tablet and you couldn't ask for better developer support than the TF has. This tablet is a winner.

thanks! i am getting this one tommorrow as far as i know, and i know to look for B60 as will in the serial on the box. If it is B70 ill still get it if thats the last one they have. As far as storage goes i think the 16 gig will be PLENTLY for me, if not i have a 8 gig SD card.
So I was one of the unfortunate early upgraders who bought the TF201 only to realize they are replacing it with the TF700 (It's even the same price and the prime was!). I have a chance to upgrade via an exchange (I bought my prime at bestbuy and can do manufacturers warrenty exchange through them). I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who has done the same thing....does the TF700 have the same problems? any new ones I should know about?
I moved from a prime to this device and don't regret it. The problems that seem to continue here are the I/o lags, screen bleed, wifi/bt video sync, single weak sounding speaker. The wifi signal itself is better, GPS works, and recent firmware has made the system run better for many. I say go for it if you can. It would be an even exchange in price for a better tablet. You may get a device that doesn't have any problems.
Do you have a good comparison of io performance between the current updated TF700 and stock Prime, and i.e. Androwook Prime?

I don't have comparisons but there are threads in the general section where people are running those tests. The scores aren't something that concern me much to warrant me running them on my tablet.
I was able to do a manufacturer exchange on my prime and got an infinity ordered. I figured that the specs were better and the price was the same so why not. I have the accidental damage plan and BB return policy is really awesome so even if there are problems I'm confident that it will get fixed or I will get my money back......Looks like I'm moving over to this forum now.

I upgraded from TF201 and I do not regret the decision at all. Overall it is not a significant upgrade and if you have a fully working Prime and you will have to pay extra to get Infinity, I will not advise it... UNLESS you really want high def screen. If high def screen is not a priority then you might even look at TF300 (i currently own that as well).

I can't try any tablets out, cause they din't release in India still now,nexus 7 might come out next month,,,but might be overpriced here :/

Lets ignore the higher than average build quality issues, since you can just pick a place that will let you return many times until you get one without visual hardware flaws. (make sure you do that.. pick a place with a good return policy)
I am seriously disappointed in this tablet. (it's my second one) It's really slow and really choppy. I would NOT spend my own money on this device. But that's your decision to make. I shouldn't have to unlock and void my warranty to make my tablet work at an "almost" acceptable level. Running Cleanrom 1.0 makes the tablet way better, but still nowhere near the level an expensive device should be at. I'll try Cleanrom 2.1 tonight.
When I say really slow and choppy, this isn't even with games or items that really tax the resources. This is while using things like Pulse reader.. or pretty much anything that has to scroll or requires multiple touch actions in a row. like open email, scroll to bottom to check something, and press delete all in pretty quick succession. You have to pretty much pause between each screen touch so the tablet can keep up or you get "Application Not Responding". This is likely related to the poor I/O. (my 2 year old phone, and 2 year old ACER dont have this issue)
I helped out a previous employer and was given this tablet as a gift.. I keep it because depending on how you look at it, it wasn't really my hard earned cash that paid for it. I'm sure there are many people out there who love their tablet... But compared to my much older and much lower spec Acer A500 this thing sucks. If you dont NEED the keyboard.. try the Acer A700 instead.
The screen on the TF700 is very nice (the serious light bleed is only really noticeable at start-up). I have had no issues with blurriness or general ugliness. Obviously with the high resolution things must scale and any applications built with low quality graphics will be fuzzy when scaled. This is not an issue with the tablet, but rather with the App developer. Any high res screen will have the same issues until all app devs convert to higher quality graphics.
After dealing with my friends terrible TF201 (prime) and now this TF700 (2 of them).. Which proves ASUS is either not capable of fixing the performance issues, or simply doesn't care. Either way it will take a lot for me to throw any cash toward ASUS in the future.

Honestly, i don't know why so many people say bad things about this tablet. No device is perfect, they all have their flaws... you just have to choose which ones are most important to you. Since I've gotten this tablet I've experienced nothing but good things... apps and games are fine and will only get better. Speed is fine with the browser2ram apk installed... and the look and feel of this thing is just amazing. Don't let all the negative comments here mislead you. I was worried when I bought this tablet then came here to read only negative things, but after taking the leap of faith I have no regrets.

Acer and 2-3 more compaines are coming out with 1080p tabs + htc butterfly which is a 1080p phablet.
So, i assume all these "might" lead to a quality full HD app's?
And does the nexus 7 support OTG

I think it's a good investment. I love the **** out of my Inifnity. Yes, there are some QC issues like light bleed (very little in my case) and screen adhesive issues (again, very little for me) but I still think the price is justified. This is why stores have return policies.The best thing a consumer can do in this case, is to give the company as much feedback as possible. The majority of consumers don't realize how much influence they really have. Even the iPad has issues like these. Granted, Apple customer support is probably a lot more responsive. I still think people should not go into the tablet market, being so young as it is, and expect perfection.

I wouldn't recommend this tablet. I have had it since it launched and I waited too long to return it.I waited for JB to be released on it. It ran ok with ICS but now that it has JB its pretty sluggish and choppy compared to other tablets in the Transformer line that run JB(which was a huge letdown considering the hardware in this thing). And as of now, there nothing optimized for its 1080p screen. This tablet is just a little too far ahead of its time. If i could make any recommendation, I would say wait until the Nexus 10 is released.
Yea nexus 10 will be too late(and probably when it comes out i wont be able to get it, cause next year my uncle might not come down to india).. now i'm looking into nexus 7,ipad mini and ipad 3 :/

That would be the A700...take it from me a former owner.

1. I'm a little annoyed that ASUS makes you sign off your warranty to unlock, everyone is annoyed by this I'm sure but you deal with it or you don't. The flip side of this coin is that a product like this shouldn't have to be sent in for warranty work if you don't brick it. I've never had to send in any handsets I've owned because of original equipment malfunctions. You can't guarantee that you'll get a perfect device if you buy it but I would think as long as you take care of it, it'll be fine, right?
2. Speed of the tablet. If you wanted to play it safe and keep the bootloader locked until the warranty expired, I've read that the tablet is sluggish. If I buy the tablet on Amazon I can unlock it, load a custom ROM on it, and decide within 30 days whether or not I want the warranty back. Is it worth giving up the warranty for the extra speed or is the sluggishness of the tablet overexaggerated? Can the tablet run Chrome well with the stock ASUS rom?

The biggest concern i had with this tablet is QA. I went through 5 tablets until i found one i was happy with and there are many others in the same boat. What you DONT hear is from the people who got one they were happy the first time, either because they dont exist or because they dont complain.
Asus has shown that they will update this thing regularly, we keep getting updates and even the original transformer is still getting updates. that shows that in a year from now i will likely have updates to whatever version of android is available. Other top end tablets (like samsung) as much as i hate to say it dont update as often or as quickly.
I'd say get yourself a tablet if its something you will use. Use the hell out of it for the return period and make sure everything is working. If its not, return it and get another one. And after your 14 days or 30 days or whatever your retailer is if you personally dont like how some aspects of the tablet can be slower than expected return it. For me, its not an issue. Everyone is different.
Quick answer as I'm at work...
I have a completely stock tablet and it is not sluggish at all - I find many of the issues mentioned here are exaggerated! I played around with a Note 10.1 in a store and found no difference in the speed but I did notice the quality of the screen was not as sharp as the Infinity. If you have a 15-30 day return policy why not order one and if it's not what you expect then return?

I am stock and unrooted and I like my infinity now (and I love the dock). I was a little disappinted at first (I bought it in july) because I find it too slow for the price it was, however this is my first tablet and I don't know how are other tablet. But now for my everyday use it is fine. I was really tempted to unlock and flash cleanrom but I don't want to loose my warranty. If I had known about square trade waranty at the time of purchase I would have got one, but it is too late now. My advice is the same as the previous, if you really want an infinity, buy it when you can easily return it after x days and return it if you are not satisfied. If you like it and want to unlock and keep a warranty, if you live in the US you can buy a square trade warranty and they enjoy your unlocked tablet.

Hey , it's a great tablet trust me ..it's light, fast , and you can do so much with it. Soon it will get even better because the nexus 10 is coming out with that ridiculous resolution so deva will start making apps that support high resolution tablets. This tablet is awesome you can buy 32gb one and not worry about space because it has expandable memory.
Dude I unlocked mine , flashes clean ROM and used pimp my ROM ...this thing runs smooth as butter .

dont buy this tablet, you will regret it. It is sluggish. Very sluggish. It is so annoying that I am returning it monday. This is by far the worst Android device I have ever bought.
And btw, I also have the TF300 + dock and I love it.
Just do like anyone with a brain and order a Nexus 10 tuesday.

Oh we exist. We just have better things to do than post in every single bloody thread where people complain. I've got about 30 post saying mine's fine from the second i bought it, weeks before the release, without unlocking.
People only speak up when they have something tocomplain about. there were thousands of sales for this tablet. Tell me, did you see all of them post here with cmplaints?

Sorry your experience has been so negative. I've had and currently have a number of Android devices and I love the TF700 Infinity, especially unlocked, CleanROMmed, and Clemsyn Kerneled!
I got one of the Square Trade warranties and it was very affordable for two years with accidental damage coverage. I have peace of mind that if I every screw-up so badly that it's bricked, I'll have my coverage without worrying about ASUS. Oh, and by the way, my unit and dock have both been perfect from day one...beginning of August.

Dang! For a development forum there's a lot of people who aren't interested in modding, even if it's proved to increase performance exponentially.
It's your device and you can live your life as you please, but the OP has a point...that the complainers (justified or not) seem to be louder and more insistant than the fun-loving, happy go lucky crackflashers like me! I hate the fact that people who would really fall in love with this tab (especially with its keyboard dock, expandability, long battery life, etc...) may not even try it out.

For folks wanting to dive into the Android tablet quagmire who might expect things to be pristine right of the box...stay away!
For gadget gurus, tweak monsters, modification masters, code writers, app developers, people who trust Asus or guys that want a device to learn on...go ahead!
For me my experience with this device has been everywhere from "Wowee cool" to "Awww...This piece of poopoo" and back to "Mmmm Yeah Baby I love you now"
Boils down to patience along with perseverance.
I'm a firm believer that Android is heaven for those who enjoy adjusting rather than using.
It's kind of like a hotrod shiny on the surface...always needing more under the hood.
I'm very satisfied with my tf700. Sluggish? Nope. Well, I'm on cm10 and development on this Rom by the cm10 has been very excellent.
I don't think there is enough of the satisfied folks who express their happiness. I'm one of them so I felt the need to break that. Excellent product asus.

This ^^. Tinkering is half the fun. No, almost all of it.
I'm stock also, but rooted. I've never had any issues with my TF700T. It runs great. No FC and fast.

I, too, didn't have any problem with my first tablet. I absolutely LOVE it now after installing CleanROM & Data2SD. I even bought mine on Ebay and got it for a great price.
I've enjoyed my tablet very much. Never noticed any sluggishness. I've also been very happy with the update frequency from Asus. No complaints here
I recommend picking up SwiftKey tablet edition from the play store. Makes landscape typing really easy.

We are all interested in modding. The point is, no amount of modding makes a difference.
Try this. Get yourself a three year old iPad 1. Put it near your transformer with CleanRom or CM10 or whatever. Start an app on both devices and see which one has smoother animations. Then open a slightly big webpage. Scroll around and pinch to zoom in and out a few times and tell me which one is smoother.
This tablet is running on hardware that is not suited to the resolution that it's running and it has very very slow flash storage which makes almost all operations sluggish. No amount of software modding makes a difference with hardware flaws. They can improve benchmarks, but not the user experience.

I have a contrary opinion: software tweaks have failed to improve benchmarks significantly across the board, but they did improve my user experience significantly.
