Why are you bringing back a month old thread?
G2x-temasek CM7 build135.4 w/faux 054 kernel

Best ROM
In the interest of ACTUALLY ANSWERING the OP's question instead of being sarcastic, the answer is that currently on the G2X there really isn't any one GOOD/BEST ICS or Jelly Bean ROM. Yes it's possible to do it, and some work quite well. But all have flaws, and issues with hardware acceleration. Personally I'm using Genesis at the moment, it's nice and I like it, very stable and *almost* everything works. But I can't watch youtube vids at all! Seriously, they stagger, stutter, and generally lag behind the audio. I hear the source code's been released for other (similar) devices, hopefully sometime soon we'll have a true CM9/CM10 ROM. Best of luck!
Update: Now using Paranoid Android Build 12 + Trinity kernel and ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!! Youtube etc works like a charm!! Only complaint is that there's no video recording (apps in the G'Play store can overcome this), sometimes the browser will crash when shifting from landscape back to regular view (once again, adjusting the settings properly overcomes this), and sometimes the phone lags slightly when I'm in the middle of an app and I press the home button (I'll see the home screen but it will be blank and takes 1-2 seconds before my apps/widgets will appear). Overall it's super stable and great for everyday use. It's probably the closest you'll come to a true ICS update at the moment. Close thread? lol

Paranoid Android ICS (CM9)
I am using Paranoid Android Rom and it is working flawlessly. I have NO problems!!!!! I fixed the Hardware acceleration and flashed a Harsh Kernel.
I have tried them all and PA delivered beyond my expectations. By the way Youtube is on deck and works without a hiccup.

I have been on hellfire phoenix for a while now, and there is nothing wrong that I can say about it, but I'm getting a little tired of not having to mess with my phone cause everything works perfect and lately I've been reading that the paranoid roms are pretty good, so I think I'm going to get this one a try, just a quick question though; does the latest build come with a kernel, or do I have to download a kernel and flash that after the rom??

Pardon my last post I was having an especially bad day. Im going to be flashing. PA build 8 aswell looks amazing

[KERNEL] Cyanogenmod Skyrocket Kernel 0.43pre v4

Hi!
This is a CM7 kernel built for skyrocket, based on my 0.43pre kernel, orientation etc. should be hunky-dory under CM7 now, and overclocking should be good
Give 'er a shot if you use CM7!
AT&T CM7 v4
Rogers CM7 v4
v4 - fixed usb storage mounting, optimizations, added Android USB Accessory support to match CM7 ROM, adjusted init scripts to allow 192MHz
Further notes re: overclocking etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20438625&postcount=28
Please leave any CM7-specific feedback here, anything that applies to the general kernel stuff in my other thread if you would
BTW, if you found BLN (Backlight Notification) was not activating for enough notifications with ROMs using touchwiz framework, this one should activate BLN for all notifications, making it much nicer and useful!
Muchos thanks to XAviierG for kicking my butt on IRC to get this out the door after much procrastination

I would rage, but my phone won't even deep sleep with wifi on, so I don't mind.
I'll just stick with LTE, I'm trying to see how much data I can use this month, and see if I can get a throttle warning anyways.

Does ICS youtube/widget work with these cyanogenmod builds? I read theres some framework from icecream sandwich in them. Does this kernel fix call audio without gps on issue?
Still tracking NFC problem, it is on my to-do, took it out for a jaunt and bluetooth/wifi/cell data/rotation/etc. are working great - did seem to get a little hotter than TPC v3 ROM when overclocked though, possibly due to the OS using more GPU resources?
I have not run CM7 ROM at all before a few hours ago, so am not familiar with the call-audio-gps-bug. But I just turned GPS off and called my voicemail a bunch, seems fine!
Did you guys flash the cyanogenmod build in this forum or is the Tmobile version updated more than the build here? Thats my last question!! Thanks alot for the progress here. I miss all the development in the Captivate forum but I know we'll get there soon.

Check each rom's and kernel's thread and read all the info that dev has. For roms there are screen shots look at them. See what kind of tweaks and hecks it has. And decide what looks/theme and feature you like and based on your choice select the rom that fits you best. This is because No one knows you and everyone has different opinion. I havent messed with any kernels. But for roms i would suggest sky ice cream sandwich or nexus. I was running sky ice cream sandwich but just switched to nexus.
Using sky ice cream sandwich its the beast using it since last 6 weeks. Trying faux kernel pretty quick though even stock kernel of sky ice cream is good.

Sky ICS has been my favorite with stock kernel
IMHO root, CWM backup, then cleanup and tweak stock while you wait for an ICS rom.
skyrocketeer was my first custom ROM and i love the look/feel/stability of it. very ICS-like. but it seems as if the dev has discontinued support so... i'm thinking of trying sky icecream sandwich..
just using a stock-ish, non-OC'd, BLN-modded kernel for now til all the kinks of OC/UV get worked out from others i've seen..
ICS "Themed" ROM is just that a theme.
I hope to see a real ICS ROM soon but until then I can not say I read that any ROM has have no problems.
Cyanogen --- FTW
Cyanogen is king!!!! I have it on my phone right now, and even thought it's
touted as an "Alpha". It's been stable enough for daily usage!
Quickwiz with faux's kernel is insanely fast , stable and smooth. Benchmark scores are also pretty high

I don't mind sharing my experiences. I've tried AOKP milestone 6, CM10 stable, PACman v18 AIO, and I'm Bout to try slimbean. Never flashed any custom kernels or radios (just ROMs and their baked in goodies). As far as AOKP goes, probably my favorite setup, UI, and functionality, but the damn thing lost mobile data after 24 hours and I had to restore a CM backup to get data back. As far as CM10 goes I love it a lot, in fact its worked the best, and my only complaint is the CRT off animation only working every 6th time (unless WiFi is on). Otherwise its been the most reliable and the most persistent on my phone. Lastly pacman v18 was pretty cool, like the integration of the different ROMs, but sometimes settings seemed to clash, and finding some settings were difficult (multiple ROM control menus) but it worked really well. Only problem I had was installing tweak box to get my CRT. That caused a never ending boot ani. Back to CM10 it was lol. Would love to hear some stories on kernels and radios, those intimidate me more than flashing ROMs. Oh BTW using twrp2 for recovery

[Q] Draw something on CM7 based roms

Anyone able to play "Draw Something" on any CM7 based roms without it freezing? The game would start up but then after like 20 seconds it would freeze. I've tried on a few CM7 based roms and even MIUI but it only seems to be fully functional with no issues on stock roms.

I'm having the same issue on the latest nightly for my G2x. I thought it might have been AdFree or another conflicting app but I haven't had any luck narrowing it down. Anyone find a way around this?

Had to wipe and flash a stock based 2.3.3 ROM in the middle of the night just because she wanted to play the game with me.
Lol needless to say, I hope this problem is fixed somehow because stock based G2x ROM's are so bad compared to CM7.

What? Are you guys running straight CM7 or CM7 based ROMS? I am running EaglesBlood v2.8, which is based off of CM7, and Draw Something works perfectly. Even faster than it was running on Bionic Reloaded v1.2 which is based off of stock.

What is a "Stable" rom?

I'm starting to get annoyed by my phone's habit of restarting mid call. I am using cyanogenmod 7, nightly 225. I cannot download the latest nightly (download is glitched).
For stability, what would the members of xda reccomend?
(at the same time as posting this, I am researching the pros and cons of various roms too)
For stability and reliability, use Bionix Reloaded v1.2.1 or v1.3. It is based off if the official 2.3.3 release from LG, so uses their drivers and whatnot.
If you want more speed and customization, I recommend EaglesBlood v2.8. It is based off of one of the lastest CM7 sources. I am currently using this and it works the same if not better, than Bionix. Battery life is slight less however, so I use Faux's kernel.
I would use ICS ROMS, but they're not yet to the point that I like. But based on the speed and commitment of our devs, they will be there soon.

I agree with this..
I have been using EB and it is by far one of the best ROMs I've used. This only issue I had was the SoD while charging overnight. But since I changed the screen to not sleep while charging I haven't had the issue as of yet. (Settings/Application/Development--check Stay Awake) I have also heard that raising the idle (or sleep??) CPU speed also helps, but I never tried that ...

I had been using CM7, but eventually grew unhappy with it. A number of programs, like Plants vs Zombies and T-Mobile Visual Voice Mail didn't work with it, and I found I needed to reboot the phone every once in a while to make data work, and occasionally the phone would not wake up after being charged and required a battery pull. So I switched to the OTA 2.3.3, which has, surprisingly, been very stable for me. Everything works, and the phone has not restarted (either by itself or be me) since I installed it. You could also try some of the ROMs based on the OTA, though I am not entirely sure which ones those are.

A nightly (by definition) is not meant to be stable. If it was, it would be called 'Stable', not 'Nightly'.
It's not supposed to work 100% with full features and functions. They're known to have bugs. Any developer doesn't have to publish their nightly, or a beta, or an alpha. But they do because it helps tremendously with bug tracking, trouble shooting, problem solving, etc.
So when someone complains of a nightly or a release candidate NOT working, I simply point and laugh loudly at them.
I'm sorry if that sounds rude or harsh, but when someone uses a nightly, they should understand what that means.

I understand you completely when people blatantly bash a nightly - but that was not my goal. All i wanted to find was a stable rom, because (as you said) the latest nighties aren't exactly reliable. Of-course it's not 10000% stable, which is why i made this thread, to find a more "everyday driver" of a rom.

EagledBlood v.2.8
I'm testing it all stock with no overclock, etc. and so far it's been pretty decent.
I was using EagleBlood ICS last week, but I need a reliable camera for daily pics of my kids and stuff. So that was out within a couple hours. Otherwise ICS is a really nice fresh change of pace. I been running many varients of 2.3.4 and 2.3.7 from CM7 to nearly everything in between.
So far, EaglesBlood has been very reliable

which ROM is the fastest?

I am running ICS (AOKP?) on my G2x, and have installed many apps. Recently I noticed that the phone kind of runs slow - sometimes laggy when I open such as apps as pandora and google docs, etc. That makes me wonder if I should look for a faster ROM. Which one is the fasted? ICS is generally more resource hungry? or Gingerbread could be lighter and faster generally speaking?
Go with an OC/UV kernel instead. You can try faux049b5 or morfics or harsh 1904 or 1504 with OC. They are all good in their own sense.
The respective links of the kernels are in the development section.
Anything besides ICS
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Well, there's a few things we need to know. Who's ROM are you using? EaglesBlood, Hellfire, CM9, Team Kangs? And what kernel are you running? The stock included in the ROM or did you flash a different one?
I'm using EaglesBlood ICS 4.0.3 with stock Faux Kernel. I didn't have that issue. That's one recommendation. Depending on which one your using will depend in other recommendations. If you decide you use AOSP (MIUI) instead I recommend Stormaggedon's ROM's. MIUI.us kept giving me force crash errors for force crash errors for a force crash error for reporting the force crash on start up. Didn't matter how long it sat nor how many times I restarted it.
Try EaglesBlood first. I'm about to clash Hellfire ICS with the harsh kernel. I'll let you know how that runs.
Edit: HellFire ICS with Harsh Kernel works nice. Its smooth, no lag, oh and in the developers settings have kill all apps when you leave them. Try that as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Pretty much all the roms are fast on here. Its what you use your phone for and install on it that eventually start slowing it down.
I know I personally favor the hellfire phoenix rom, but asking or saying which rom is the best/fastest is kinda ignorant as they all are the best for their own reasons.

Go with any GB rom (CM7.2 RC1 for me with Faux kernel), they are much smoother and faster than ICS roms currently are. I have tried every ICS rom (even with harshs latest kernels as of yesterday) and while they have made great strides I find CM7.2 RC1 to still be much smoother and faster (especially under heavy usage).
