which ROM is the fastest? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I am running ICS (AOKP?) on my G2x, and have installed many apps. Recently I noticed that the phone kind of runs slow - sometimes laggy when I open such as apps as pandora and google docs, etc. That makes me wonder if I should look for a faster ROM. Which one is the fasted? ICS is generally more resource hungry? or Gingerbread could be lighter and faster generally speaking?

Go with an OC/UV kernel instead. You can try faux049b5 or morfics or harsh 1904 or 1504 with OC. They are all good in their own sense.
The respective links of the kernels are in the development section.

Well, there's a few things we need to know. Who's ROM are you using? EaglesBlood, Hellfire, CM9, Team Kangs? And what kernel are you running? The stock included in the ROM or did you flash a different one?
I'm using EaglesBlood ICS 4.0.3 with stock Faux Kernel. I didn't have that issue. That's one recommendation. Depending on which one your using will depend in other recommendations. If you decide you use AOSP (MIUI) instead I recommend Stormaggedon's ROM's. MIUI.us kept giving me force crash errors for force crash errors for a force crash error for reporting the force crash on start up. Didn't matter how long it sat nor how many times I restarted it.
Try EaglesBlood first. I'm about to clash Hellfire ICS with the harsh kernel. I'll let you know how that runs.
Edit: HellFire ICS with Harsh Kernel works nice. Its smooth, no lag, oh and in the developers settings have kill all apps when you leave them. Try that as well.

Pretty much all the roms are fast on here. Its what you use your phone for and install on it that eventually start slowing it down.
I know I personally favor the hellfire phoenix rom, but asking or saying which rom is the best/fastest is kinda ignorant as they all are the best for their own reasons.

Your missing one update. He's up to 1.09 now. Oh and um... yeah, GB is slow. Something I figured out when I made the change to ICS. But, I think I'll humor it. Ive been looking for a half decent GB rom. Might try EB's out.

Are you saying ICS roms are faster then any gb rom?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Go with any GB rom (CM7.2 RC1 for me with Faux kernel), they are much smoother and faster than ICS roms currently are. I have tried every ICS rom (even with harshs latest kernels as of yesterday) and while they have made great strides I find CM7.2 RC1 to still be much smoother and faster (especially under heavy usage).

trying hellfire 2.1 with faux kernel

Hellfire or Eagle (ICS)

Which one are you using??
I tried both but haven't seen a difference on either..
But overall there are some things that aren't working that made me go back to my previous rom.

I had a lot of FC's on Hellfire's initial build, tried the second version, it was a bit better but then switched to EB's version and everything seems to work. I also installed the latest Faux kernel to save on battery.
both have issues at the moment. remember this is just an alpha build so you will have issues. just give it about 2 - 3 months. right now i'm using HF GB 1.9. it is soooooooooo smooth that i haven't wanted to reflash ICS. IMO HF 1.9 is clearly the best GB ROM out there. also HFS was stable when I had it. I didn't have any issues with it. no FC or anything other than just the normal stuff not working.
I have been running HFS for several days now and it has been running very smoothly for an Alpha release. Looking forward to updates in the near future.
Have any of you tried self kang 3? Not to through the topic off course.
I think HFS is most stable of the two.
I have tried both. Right now, I prefer EB but that is just my preference. They are both fine roms.
Right now i just like the look of EB over HF
Hadn't tried Hellfire but I'm using eglesblood. Using it because don has more experience with ics cuz he has the nexus an everyone seems to like his rom on the gnex. Not saying it to bash hell, just that has less experience but I can see hell has a lot of potential.

HFS v.1.1
Haven't tried EB ICS, but am very happy with HFS. I've had no problems since I flashed it when it came out. My phone has an uptime of 4.5 days without a FC or glitch. Right now it's my daily driver till v1.2 comes out.
PartzMan2
Phone: Rooted G2x
Rom: HFS v1.1
OC: 1200 Mhz
I'm using eb right now because its the most stable atm. I'm a big fan of hell's work so as soon as its as smooth as hellfire , I'm flashing It.

Faux kernel hasn't made any battery saving changes yet, just adding OC/UV and DS Driver
I just installed EB and it's pretty much perfect. Runs smooth as hell, and I love the new ICS stuff. I am having a huge issue with not being able to get any data connection though. I've read and re-read through the pages of the original post but couldn't find anyone mentioning this issue. I have tried to manually add the apn and it doesn't seem to save the settings. Has anyone else had this issue with EB? Does anyone have a simple fix for this issue?
Thanks for reading.
Both great
Both roms are great, ive used em both and currently running HFS, I wish the camera would get sorted out soon otherwise they are both pretty great.
Hello, everyone!
I have nothing but love for the HellFire ICS ROM, and have been using Hell's ROMs since Hellfire Phoenix 1.5.
I used EB for a while a few months back, but preferred the CM7 UI and stayed with that until I first tried the Hellfire ROMs.
I've noticed that EB ICS rom lags a bit when I hit the app drawer, not really a big deal, but gets annoying sometimes, I'm not sure if its the same for Hellfire?

[Q] Draw something on CM7 based roms

Anyone able to play "Draw Something" on any CM7 based roms without it freezing? The game would start up but then after like 20 seconds it would freeze. I've tried on a few CM7 based roms and even MIUI but it only seems to be fully functional with no issues on stock roms.
Iam having problems to with it also on my cm7 T-Mobile g2x it would freeze and can't touch anything. Can't even play it.
Same here its not working ...idk how we could get around this....

I works "OK" on cm9. still very usable becasue i have been playing it for the last week, but it does freeze up every once in a while, and FC, and one thime form me it froze completely and i had to do a battery pull. So it works, but not really super well.
I'm having the same issue on the latest nightly for my G2x. I thought it might have been AdFree or another conflicting app but I haven't had any luck narrowing it down. Anyone find a way around this?
Add me to the can't play list also.

Yeah this poses a problem for me as well. Girlfriend just found out about this game and she was in love with it. Then found out it doesn't work on CM7 ROM's... F'in bummer.
Had to wipe and flash a stock based 2.3.3 ROM in the middle of the night just because she wanted to play the game with me.
Lol needless to say, I hope this problem is fixed somehow because stock based G2x ROM's are so bad compared to CM7.

Lol I am in the same boat bro, my girl is begging me to play every day and Im on CM7. Sucks. Was thinking about wiping and flashing a stock ROM myself but just not worth the hassle. Hoping someone finds a fix soon, I tried everything.
Also thought it was an adblock problem, till I stumbled accross this topic.
What? Are you guys running straight CM7 or CM7 based ROMS? I am running EaglesBlood v2.8, which is based off of CM7, and Draw Something works perfectly. Even faster than it was running on Bionic Reloaded v1.2 which is based off of stock.
The only "lag" I noticed was when I first started up the app, it took around 10 seconds to show me the login screen.

I'm running that too, and it crashes non-stop for me.
What kernel are the people that are affected running?
Personally, I'm running Faux's UV one, without DS.
I'm running straight CM7, the latest nightly to be exact. With the latest update of the game I can launch the app almost every time but it freezes when I try to enter actual gameplay. Ridiculous.
Try using Faux's kernel.

Quickest and Smoothest ROM for G2x?

Alright, I know this is one of the worst questions to ask on this forum, but I can't help myself.
There are so many choices, and its so hard differentiating them from each other.
So far, I am deciding between hellfire and eagleblood. (Latest ICS)
All I want is the phone to work smoothly. I want apps to load without freezing, and the least amount of lag in general in the phone.
Any suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time.

Why don't you do some research? This is such a simple answer. I'm only going to tell you so you don't ask any more obvious ones. HP is based off of Gingerbread, HS is based off Ice Cream Sandwich. If you don't know what that means, search for the answer.
And read the threads in the Dev section, they're not dead.

EB 4 Life!
I cannot strongly enough recommend running Hellfire Phoenix 2.0 with the ELP Trinity kernel. This combination has given me the utmost in speed, stability and battery life and makes me constantly marvel at how perfectly silky smooth my phone runs. ICS on the G2X doesn't have a proper 4.x.x kernel so it is unstable and buggy as a result.

I agree I was getting around 26-30 hours with the combo and no issues pretty much... Only thing I was using EaglesBlood 2.3.7...The major thing that caused me back to a stock based rom was the low mic volume, gets annoying hearing people tell me to speak up, although not an issue to all.

CM9 or AOKP?

what do u use and with what kernel? and what is the best set up?
You can't have other people choosing for you! lol everyone will have their opinions and liking towards different roms. I personally go for CM9 + InstigatorX's kernels. Some people go for AOKP or Chimaira other AOSP based and use Instigator's kernels. From there you have to choose which version or which governer is to your liking, if you prefer a certain setting like performance ones or power saving ones etc...
As for CM9 and AOKP I am an avid CM9 user but have used AOKP before. AOKP has a lot of customization right out of the box, CM9 is going from the ground up so they add features slowly and is constantly update almost once a day. AOKP they release one update every say 10-15 days~ and occasional milestone which will have more features than fixes. I like seeing updates gradually come and look forward to them on a daily bases thats why I stuck with CM9 and I like it for its stability. I've had a few FC's on the older AOKP but those are probably gone now with the latest milestone but features and readily available tweaks, the unicorn has them all (AOKP). I would personally make a nandroid back up and test them out yourself to see if its to your liking. My preference may not be the same as yours so its each to their own. :good:
Thanks for the reply bro, just wondering what the peeps on here were using, I think I'm going to stick with cm9, I really dig it, but I was wondering what kernel should I add, its a big mess with a bunch of releases on that forum lol

More 'features' in 4.0. But it may bootloop you. If you're ok with dealing with that then 4.0. I myself am trying to decide and I don't want to deal with bootloops so I just, right this second, decided to go with 2.2.1

I would go with 4.0. I was having trouble with my phone looping when I put on UCLF6 modem, I switched to the newest kernel and everythings been smoother. I would also say don't be afraid to try things out. Usually you will know what you like and don't like after you test a few configurations.
Just backup and keep multiple versions of the kernel in your SD so you can switch just in case it fails to boot. I'm currently using 4.0 badass underclocked to 1.1ghz when idling/light use and use smartassv2 when I play games.

I use Chimera RC2 and it is amazing with InstigatorX kernel. Had some trouble getting it to run at first but finally got it to run. As for setup, I prefer performance so I am working on getting it to stabilize with 1.7-1.8 OC. I am still testing governors and UV settings but SmartassV2 benchmarked pretty damn high compared to badass and ondemand.
RC3-(Official?) should correct issues and may be released today

In my humble opinion, CM9 tends to be a touch more stable than AOKP. But remember AOKP at its essence is CM9 with extra features thrown on, so it's bound to have the potential for a few more bugs. But both are very stable and won't give you any more issues than any other ROM really. Basically it's a question if AOKP's features are something you feel you want. I recommend spending about a week with both and then deciding.

Simple mobile runs perfect on my phone, just got with them a week ago and everything works. On temasek(?)'s latest ROM.
Benefits of cm7? Lol too many to list.
cm7 or a cm7 based variant is definitely the most operable option for the g2x at the moment in terms of every day usability and stability. I don't really know why you would be particularly against using it so if you care to detail why you don't like it aside from the fact that its gingerbread based perhaps we could help you to consider juny. eb ics may well be the reason you're having the problems you're having, a lot of the ics/jb variant roms have data drop issues. if you haven't and are deadset on using an ics/jb rom, try paranoid android, kashmalaga, or the hackfest roms.
