I hope this is appropriate for the Development forum as it relates to the two recoveries here - CWM 6.0.1.4 and TWRP 2.3.0.0. I have previously posted in both those threads. I have not seen any comments about problems so it would be good to know if I am not alone.
I have the 64Gb version of the TF700T with JB (unfortunately, no NVflash).
I have been using the Sandisk 64Gb UHS1 card. It came formatted with exFAT and was one of the few that worked OK under the original firmware. I could not get either CWM or TWRP to see the card at all in recovery mode.
I found a spare 16Gb card that was formatted in Fat32. That worked fine and mounted without a problem under both CWM and TWRP.
I then did a full format of the 16Gb card under Windows 7 to exFAT and it would not work. With CWM I tried a simple backup and got 'Can't mount backup path'. Then tried to Mount /sdcard and got 'Error mounting /sdcard'. In TWRP I could not select or mount the card.
Next I did a full format to NTFS. With CWM I still have the same problem. With TWRP it allows me to select the card and it can be browsed in TWRP's File Manager. However, when I try to create a backup I get an error creating backup path.
Is it just me or can no one properly mount and backup direct to the external card with CWM or TWRP when the card is formatted in exFAT or NTFS?
As the 64Gb card cannot be formatted with Fat32 then does that mean I will not be able to use my 64Gb card and backup direct to the card?

EDIT: The precise error I am getting from TWRP is 'E:Unable to create folder: /external_sdcard/TWRP (errno=30)'.
It has to be FAT32 for some reason. I had the same issue so I bought a cheap card just to have an SD Card with my nandroid backups on it.
NTFS mounts as read only in TWRP which isn't all that useful but that's due to the kernel. exFAT has a much stricter license than regular FAT so I doubt that you will ever see exFAT support in a Linux kernel.
Maybe I will dabble with the kernel config & try to get NTFS to mount writable.
What about ext4, is it possible to format in ext4 and have android recognize it and the recovery... just a thought since Linux does support it and IMO ext4 is superior to fat32 and ntfs.

I attempted to partition the sd card with ext4, and was not able to get it to work. I then attempted to return the sd card to fat32 using but now Clockwork Recovery refuses to mount the sd card, failing with only 'Error mounting sdcard'
I've done this procedure before, and was able to use Windows XP to re-partition and format the sd card at which point Clockwork was able to mount it, but this time it's not working.
So my questions would be, what are the specific parameters of the partition is the phone looking for? Should it be MBR, GUID? Is there some sort of option during the partitioning or format I'm missing? What about volume label?
I've checked fstab and recovery.fstab and they both list vfat as the partition type. At a loss here, would hate to have a bricked phone simply because I can't take the darned sd card out.

I have been reading about an issue that I have: 'android.process.media' keeps stopping.
One of the suggestions is that there maybe a corrupted file on your external sd card.
The fix is to either delete the file; good luck trying to find which file. or to reformat the sd card.
Since I have the keyboard dock and several 32gb microSD cards. I plan on copying all my files to the other card and then formatting the card in question.
However, it seems on the Asus tablet, I am not given the format option. I had it on my Samsung phone before the upgrade to ICS.
But one thing I wanted to do after some other reading is to format the card the same file system that is used on the internal memory.
If I have my facts correct, the internal memory is formatted as 'ext' and external SD cards get formatted as 'fat' (or is that fat32).
I think it's formatted as fat, is for compatibility with your PC.
However, the article, said that 'ext' is much more secure and less prone to corruption.
So is there anyway to format the external SD card in this 'ext' file system and how would one do that process?

You would need to do it in linux or find a windows program that could do it, as ext is not supported in windows. Im not sure the microsd will work right in the tablet formated as ext and your windows desktop wont be able to access .
Ok, I read in another thread, they suggested to put the microsd card in the phone and format from there.
I did do that.
And I have another question, my phone is rooted and it contains CWM.
I noticed in CWM, that you can fomat from there.
There are options to format areas, like /system /cache and the one I am interested in is /sdcard.
My question is this, is this /sdcard the external micro SD card or is it simply the partition /sdcard which is Samsung's internal memory. I don't want to take a change and format the internal SD card.
I think once formatted the external SD card, but I was on a different version of CWM, I have a different one after the ICS upgrade that was recommended by someone helping me do the ICS upgrade.

Whoops almost forgot, there is thread on xda about formatting memory in ext4. I would like to try that and see if the Asus tablet can read that if I get to format the external card in ext4 Still looking for a Windows program that will format in that mode.
/sdcard is internal. /Removable is external.
I would be surprised if you can find a Windows program that reads, let alone writes, any type of ext filesystem (and forget about anything less mainstream like JFS or ReiserFS). Microsoft only made Windows compatible with their own filesystems, FAT32 and NTFS.

After you create a partition, it needs to be formatted to be usable. If you created the partition on your SD card by putting it in your computer, you have to format it separately. You use your preferred software to format, and you must specify how you want the new partition formatted.
If you create a partition on your SD card through your phone's recovery (i.e., CWM), it will automatically format it. I think CWM uses ext4 by default.

Does CWM support external SD card formated with ext3 or ext4? I considered exFAT and NTFS but none seems to be supported by CWM.
CWM can read partitions which have been formatted ext2/3/4 in your computer. I'm not aware about exFAT, and I highly doubt any recovery would recognize NTFS.

My current setup is (was?) CROMi-X with Hund's 3.2.0 kernel + DATA2SD. I wanted to wipe and reflash everything from the beginning. I took my Sandisk 64GB microSD (which was working like a charm before) to repartition it in gparted. I set two primary partitions, first is a 8GB FAT32 partition, the rest of the card is an ext4 partition with boot flag. I shoved the card into my laptop to put some zips, as usual.
Well, the problem is that my tf700 doesn't see my 8GB partition, both under ES File Explorer and TWRP. I can't flash ROM beacause I can't select microSD in TWRP, and I can't copy it to internal memory, beacuse there is no ext_card directory...
If someone knows how to make FAT32 appear under TWRP again I would be really thankful
I can´t remember correctly, but I think few days ago I was not able to read a CM ROM from my external SD card that was formatted with ext4.
So, does Clockworkmod support ext4 or does it not? I badly want ext4 to avoid the 4GB file size limit of fat32.

EDIT: Now I know. I have CWM version 6.x from CM 10.2 nightly and CWM cannot read ext4 formated volumes. Though I read CWM was meant to support ext4!? Obviously it does not.
EDIT2: Today I was able to mount a USB drive connected to the phone that was formatted with ext4. I do not know, why I am able to mount this ext4 device now and why I was not able to mount my ext4 formatted sdcard.
