[Q] slimbean 2.6.0 toasted efs folder lost imei help samsung infuse 4g - Samsung Infuse 4G

I just fixed my imei, Odin flashing unbrick 1.1 then deleted efs, copied over back up folder it worked, for a week or so. Then flashed again some kernels flashed back to my backup.zip that just bricked phone, flashed again with Odin unbrick 1.1 fixed it then flashed it with uclb3 cwm root extras, worked, then found slimbean got excited did everything one is suppose to, delete all the suff, flashed slimbean 2.6.0 infuse4g it went into a loop between Samsung screen to there cwm recovery screen, so I did the three finger death grip, it stopped in recovery flashed slimbean zip then geipp zip (or whatever its called) then rebooted, it worked fine, everything until I looked at the phone info, no baseband, aahh, no imei, checked my folder, everything was gone out of it except lost and found folder it was empty.
Did what I did last time to fix it, just copy my backup efs folder over after I had to install a different film manager as there's doesn't have copy paste only move, don't think so, got a keep a copy, got efs folder copied over, reboot, nothing. Still no imei.
Anyone go any ideas, even how to take infuse back down to gingerbread with Odin, as I read whence flash ROMs may cause problems down grading. I like slim slimbean, but I like my imei more, at least this time I still have WiFi, lol
Suggestions please.
Thanks new be.

This has worked for me in the past:
On a JB rom- wipe data, cache, and dalvik.
Flash an ics rom, preferably http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
You may have to flash twice as CWM is reverting- again this is a maybe. (happened to me once)
Again, wipe data, cache, and dalvik
Flash a gingerbread rom
Reboot.
Do not use rom manager and do not restore aps and data using TiBu. ( you may try restoring the app, not the data)
Also do not try to restore a backup of a GB rom until after you have done a fresh GB rom install.
Hope this helps.

I don't think efs backups really work on jb...I haven't really done to much looking around...but mtd format (what jb uses) seems to use imei differently...as in
Flashing a jellybean ROM should never wipe the actually efs folder...what happens during the mtd conversion is it makes a copy of efs stuff and pastes it into a new partition that isn't accessible from a file manager...at least that's what I understand from looking at the updater.sh
This is why a simple heimdal or Odin will restore imei...because the actually efs folder wasn't harmed
Now...for reasons unknown sometimes the new imei partition gets weird and doesn't work...usually going back to stock, then ICS then job again will fix it...sometimes for another unknown reason no matter how many times people try...some jb ROMs never have a good imei...I've had 1 or 2 people that fall under that category with slim bean...they tried many times and followed the instructions to a t and always lost imei until they went back to stock...
If I ever get free time I may dig into the updater and see where it puts the efs stuff exactly and see if its possible to heimdall or Odin flash efs to that portion...or even make an "empty" flashable zip...as in the user puts his efs in the zip using an archive program and then flashes it -but thats if I ever get free time...

Wonders if I just leave it @ ICS if my imei will work , maybe follow all the steps going from GB to ICS then JB-Slimbean , as after I did all that I read it again and found the spot I should have read, not recommended to flash from GB, I skipped ICS.
Thanks for your advice I am going to give it a try, if I get my imei back, then work my way back up to slimbean as I will already have all the ROMs needed on my SD card.

work my way back down, then up again.

Very good idea, it will give you something to do, keeps one out of trouble. FYI I failed to say I went straight from GB to slimbean, and a part I failed to read was not recommended to go from GB to slimbean, rather ICS to JB slimbean. I am going tobtrybtobflash backwards down to GB hopefully fix imei, then work my way back up GB to ICS to slimbean see what happens. Thanks

File system is different. Recovery can't read it.
The above sometimes happens when lagfix does not match what recovery is looking for. Like if lagfix was on, but you installed a stock infuse recovery.
Easiest way, go back to stock using a .pit file

yeah ordin

Flash Didn't Delete Files?

Hi Everyone,
I recently just flashed my stock Rogers 2.2 phone with Serendipity 5.12 and noticed something odd. None of my files in in /mnt/sdcard or on my external SD Card were deleted. I followed these steps:
Rooted
Backed up with Titanium backup
Transferred my .zip file to the root of my phone (I don't know I did it at this step as it should have been erased....)
Flashed back to stock AT&T JH6 using ODIN3 (as my phone is a 1010 build)
Master reset (said completed successfully)
Rooted again (messed up on this as I said my phone was below 2.0 firmware, had to re-root again [without derooting] saying my phone was above 2.0 firmware)
Installed Rom Manager and booted into Clockwork Recovery Mode
Selected my .zip from my sdcard (I did this manually vs renaming it update.zip)
It booted up into Serendipity fine and and I said yes to the lag fix conversion
Then I went back to re-install apps I noticed Titanium Backup was showing me my old backup which I transferred onto my external SD. Then I used "My Files" to see that I had my previous Dropbox, Kongregate, roms, and all my other old folders from stock on the /mnt/sdcard still! I thought these would have been erased surely with the Flash and Master Clear. Now I am curious how "pure" my flash" is, and that maybe I should try this all again. Anyone experience this before and can let me know why this happened? Or let me know that this is normal?
Thanks!
none of the files should be deleted unless you did a master clear....
Ah, well I did very strange! Anyone have any advice on what I should do next? Retry the whole process, or do a master clear from serendipity?
I don't understand what the problem is. What do you mean how "pure" your flash is? Are you worried that you have a mix of two roms loaded at the same time or something?
If that's the case, I assure you that you don't. The actual partitions that hold the OS are formatted before the new firmware is installed, including your data partition. The internal and external sd cards are never formatted because they have absolutely nothing to do with the firmware.
Oh well I guess by "pure" I meant that some of the old files (installers, folders left by programs) may affect the stability and speed on the new ROM. However, you are right the files used by the OS are on the root of the SD card (i.e. / ). I guess I'll leave it for now... Very strange that master clear didn't wipe out everything!
EDIT: Great now my SIM card is not being recognized although it was recognized upon first boot of the phone...

So much for alleged purity. Leave the CWM update on the sdcard as update.zip and simply copy the ROM zip to your sdcard and install it. All that flashing to stock, master clearing and renaming is silly.
As to why the master clear didn't work, did you do it with the phone fully booted up, debugging on and touchwiz running?

Oh so that is what that update.zip on my sdcard was, CWM. I deleted it... oops! I should just be able to install ROM Manager again and get that update.zip back right?
As for the master clear. I was fully booted, debugging was on, but I don't know if I had Zeam or Touchwiz running... Probably Zeam I guess! Makes sense thanks!

Instead of installing Rom Manager, just add this to the root of your sdcard. This is the update.zip that Rom Manager puts on your phone. Hope this helps.

I did this my first flash and didnt realize that the files were still there until I was about to reflash a new ROM on it.
You have to master clear the phone; if you use that awesome program that flashes you back (forgot the name) it has an option to do this for you.

I think you're talking about Odin one-click that flashes your firmware back to I897UCJF6 and clears your phone. You can find it on the XDA forums here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989

Yeah, I just tried to distill it into words that someone new to rom flashing could digest. Speaking of that though, any clue why the Galaxy S line stores databases in /dbdata whereas just about every other Android phone uses /data/data/ ?

Need help in ext4 conversion

Hi this is what i've tried for hours and still doesn't work. :
Flash XXKPE
Flash XXKPH
Flash CFROOT with custom kernel from skin1980
In CWM Recovery mode :
-Backup
-Install ext4 conversion script
and this is where I get a problem, I try to restore but it keeps saying MD5 mismatch, I've done the whole process again and did a backup with a different name "1" and it still doesn't work !
Thanks for your help
How large is the external SD card? I've had this message with having insufficient space on the external SD and I thought that the backup was successfully made.

Well 32 gb is fine I guess
It is fine. Flash everything again. KPH and CFROOT 09-05-2011. Then do the same process then report to this thread.
BTW, you used the latona pit file on the first flash right? for KPE I mean. Also, try to use the stock kernel with CFROOT first. Don't use the OC kernel just to rule out some gremlins that may cause errors.

I just flashed KPH and the CFROOT stock, did a backup with CWM then installed the ext 4 script in recovery mode, tried to recover ... AGAIN ****ing MD5 mismatch
I think i'm gonna give up this is pissing me off I flashed like 15 times and lost all my data I need to restore...
Wait, do you restart after you flash the ext4 zip then go to recov mode again to restore?
Also, take everything out of your sd card and just retain the ext4.zip and whatever cwm flash zips u need.
Still doesn't work even with restarting and I can't boot since it's stuck on samsung screen T.T

This happend to me before, it causing of fw download corrupted. redownload fw again.
Do not restart after applying the zip and just restore the nandroid backup.
My first attempts were without restarting as told by many posts from others
HI
I agree that you need to redownload All ROM + CF Root
flash ROM, then make sure ROM is OK
Hardware reset
then install CF-Root
make sure All fine then.
full NANDROID BAckup
reboot
then i wish you luck in EXT4
GoodLuck
I faced the same problem a few times, but haven't found the root cause. I have some theories though:
Md5 mismatch means something caused your Nandroid backup to get corrupted.
Do not touch the folder in which the backup is placed.
Do not rename anything.
Do not move the folder or it's contents.
Do not clear the cache in CWM recovery mode.
Format your external SD card once through the settings menu in the phone.
Don't use the windows (or any) chkdsk (error checker) on the SD cards.
Again these are just theories, haven't really found the cause of this error.

How to check if file system is ext4???
@Cix: usually a quadrant benchmark is a good indication of that.
To definitively confirm, use adb shell :
Look up the thread on ext4 conversion and read some of the comments. Or better yet, use the search tool.

[Q] HELP... hosed up the SR

Damn... got a bit too adventurous with the SR. Used the UOT Kitchen to make a simple battery/icon mod. Created the zip successfully.. but don't have CWM installed (running stock 3e Recovery). I was rooted running OTA 2.3.6. On my PC, I extracted the framework-res.apk from the zip and moved it to the SR. Moved it to /system first to fix permission (rw.r.r), then was going to move it to /system/framework folder. But being a complete azzclown, I thought I'd be cautious and rename my stock framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.OEM. Didn't even have a chance to move the cooked up framework-res.apk to /system/framework folder cause as soon as I renamed the good framework-res.apk, I was in FC hell. F. Anyway, now I'm stuck at the "SAMSUNG" boot screen. What's the best course of action at this point?
I can get into stock 3e Recovery Mode... but hoping there's a way I can just somehow rename my good framework-res.apk.OEM back to framework-res.apk. (Reality tells me I can't). Anyway, I do have a Titanium Backup on my external SD. Just not sure what the best steps are from 3e Recovery: In 3e Recovery, do I "wipe data/factory reset" ? Do I need to "wipe cache partition", or will I just F it up more.
I m pretty sure this will help!
it's Sean's work!
When in 3 e recovery do a factory data reset (home button is enter)
7. now close and reopen odin
8.pull the battery on your phone and put it back into download mode
9.in the pda slot this time select clockwork recovery.tar
10.make sure your phone is in the com slot and hit flash
11. now reboot into clockwork also doing a factory data reset
12.clearing cache partition
13.go to advanced and clear dalvik cache
14. lastly go under mounts and storage and format system
15. now install any rom of choice .. your phone should be clean

Appdroid... thanks for the quick reply... appreciate the help. I was avoiding putting CWM on until official ICS OTA rolled out... was going to keep the OTA 2.3.6 and 3e Recovery until then. If I wipe data/factory reset from 3e Recovery, will this put framework-res.apk back in /system/framework? Or is my only option now is going to download mode and Odin flash (and trip the counter)...

I've never installed CWM... I rooted the stock 2.3.5 with SuperOneClick back in November, then took the OTA 2.3.6 update... and maintained my root. I just did the wipe data/factory reset.. that looks like it only wiped my user data and reformatted the /data partition. Now when I try to get back into Recovery Mode, I get a white triangle with a yellow exclamation in the middle.. and a green droid under that.. WTF?
OK... I can get back into 3e Recovery... but can confirm, the "wipe data/factory reset" only erases user data... it formats the /data and /cache partitions. When I reboot from Recovery, it still gets stuck at the 2nd SAMSUNG during boot. Do I need to Odin flash CWM, or can I somehow Odin flash the stock 2.3.5 with 3e Recovery, then re-root... or will flashing the stock ROM also trip the counter?
I believe kernal only trips counter, but who cares about the counter. Do what you gotta do to save her. You could prob just odin cwm, wipe and flash a rom

UPDATE: saved the Rocket!
Appdroid, cdshepherd: Thanks (and XDA Thanks buttons pressed as well!). Brought the SR back from the brink of brickmania. Nearly 5 hours of hell from one idiotic move (which was renaming "framework-res.apk" instead of simply overwriting it with the UOT Kitchen cooked-up mod). Anyway, used Sean's method to wipe phone and Odin flash CWM. Then the fun really started when it was time to flash a ROM via CWM.. and I had no ROMs on my sdcard! So pulled my external sd out of SR, put it in a MicroSD adapter... then discovered my desktop computer couldn't read my MicroSD! So, shoved the MicroSD adapter in my work laptop, it auto-added drivers so SD was recognized in the laptop. Then, back to the desktop and copied my ROM of choice (went with silver03wrx's Stock 2.3.6) onto a USB flash drive. Ported the USB flash drive over to the laptop and copied the Stock 2.3.6 ROM to the MicroSD. Finally, popped the external SD out of the adapter and back in the SR... booted into CWM recovery, and flashed the ROM from the external SD. Things began to become much more clear after my 3rd beer and the clock striking 1am!
Re-downloaded Visual VoiceMail, Superuser, and all my purchased apps. After reinstalling Root Explorer, I actually braved the UOT Kitchen fiasco again and flashed my Kitchen mods... all working to perfection. Titanium restored all my user apps+data (and yes, did NOT restore ANY system stuff). 2am now and all that remains is to reinstall the volume button camera mod and translucent 3.4.4 Market app (both of which are pretty cool), and get my home-screen widgets re-setup. Oh, and by the way, my custom binary counter is still "NO", and says "SAMSUNG OFFICIAL". After all of this, I'm not sure why I even cared about the counter.... but in any event, it's still "0". Thanks XDA for all the stellar helpful posts and development materials.
Glad she's back up and running. A good thing to remember is, when your In CWM. You can plug your USB into phone/computer. Go to mounts and storage option in cwm and click mount USB storage. Then you can copy files between your SD and computer without having to do the SD card swap fiasco. Always remember to unmount SD from computer first. Hope this helps and good luck buddy!

I was pissed at myself for such a bonehead move (renaming an active framework file). After going through the whole process to bring the SR back from the dead, I was determined to get that freaking battery icon mod installed and risk it all again! Fortunately, it worked this time and all is good. With CWM now installed, I could have just flashed the UOT Kitchen zip... but was sure my Root Explorer process would work so did it again, but this time I "replaced" the active file instead of renaming the active apk.

[Q] Ooops - Tab's funked. Help!

P6800 running Zeta
I was browsing facebook the other night when... shaboom - everything froze. No biggie I thought, I'll just do a little reset (I was getting a few FCs here and there anyway lately) and I'll be good to go...
NOPE. It started bootlooping at the initial Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 screen. I'm able to enter CWM recovery and even wipe the cache and flash ZIP files, but when I try to wipe data/factory reset, wipe the Dalvik cache or restore a Nandroid backupI get a System Error. It doesn't look good.
Is there a way to fix my seemingly funked /system without losing all my internal SD card data (where my Titanium backups reside) or to recover it before a full Odin flash?
Just tried again - it reboots and goes into a loop when I try to wipe data and dalvik, and when I try to restore a previous backup it gives me "Error while restoring /system!"
Any help greatly appreciated before it becomes a $600 door stop
Do you dare to wipe the system folder and follow by flashing another ROM?

Do you mean via Odin? Will I lose the data on my internal SD card by doing that? Is there any way of mounting the device in its current state as external storage on my PC to copy all data before a wipe?
ZhenMing: I'm not sure what you mean, but as I wrote above I am not able to wipe the system folder.
yes you will loose your data... i can give you another advice... but do this one carefully... the reason why your device cant wipe any /system or /data is because the corrupted partition... you need to check it... follow the guide in this thread...
USE ONLY PART 3... follow the guide start from this para to check your device...
Code:
Now we are going to use e2fsck to check our new partitions for errors, but not only, it also fixes some erros and it will even for example create lost & found in /data
So let's go, we'll begin with /system. If you're still in the (parted) shell, use ctrl+c and type "adb shell", then issue the following :

Since you can go into cwm, you can mount your storage and then connect to PC to copy all you want.

But won't it downsize the int sd size, if OP tab still under warranty, better to get it fix by samsung for free and not lost any space.
Just reading the 1st post of the ZETA rom thread.
He says he is using stock Kernel.
He says every 5 lines, that you should full wipe...
without giving any sort of warning that it will eventually brick your device.

Tried that one, but it won't mount unfortunately. The external will no problem, but when I try with the internal it just... well it does nothing. It's a bummer cause all my most recent backups are on the internal. Any other way of retrieving my data short of extracting the chip?
Giving it back to Samsung sounds like the best option, but I'm worried cause it has a custom ROM and it's rooted. Anyone has experience doing that?
Also I thought full wipes were good, but you're saying they eventually brick the device? How come? I thought having a custom recovery meant it would be virtually impossible to brick my device... and the weird thing is that it happened during normal usage, not while flashing.
Anyway, my priority is obviously to get my tab working again, but retrieving my internal data is second highest. Isn't there a flashable ZIP that would copy the contents of the internal SD into an external SD card? Surely this has happened to someone before me?
Thanks for all the answers, really appreciated!

nope it wont... the 3rd stage on that thread command for just check and fix the corrupted partition... its like when we force boot windows... it will run on a little diagnostic software to check the drive... same concept.
Oh I see, Thanks for the explanation. Learn something new today.

Gotcha! Will try that one and post result - thanks!
how did your partition check go?
i'm annoyed that some partitions can be corrupted randomly even doing some mundane stuffs
even on stock ICS fw, i encountered DATA corruption by just deleting a contact
i guess you have softbrick..
here is what i did:
-flash stock Honeycomb firmware using Odin
-forced tablet into stock recovery mode
-wipe Cache/Data/Factory Reset
- reboot
when your tab is working again you could backup files from your internal EMMC and you could flash ROMS from there

Thanks for that. I haven't tried anything yet as I'm away till Weds, but I will then and let you know. So you're saying by flashing stock HC via Odin and wiping/resetting everything through stock recovery I won't lose my internal storage data?
that's what i experienced..but i could not guarantee that it will be the same for your device
i noticed that because old folder are not deleted when i rebooted, but i haven't checked if the system folders are cleared
to have a clean reflash i also format/sdcard on recovery..but don't do this on stocl ICS recovery since you might risk increasing the damage
try to format via odin the Honeycomb fw first [don't put PIT file neither enable Repartion, just normal flash]
then force it to enter recovery mode when it bootloops after reset
you might fix your device this way if it has softbrick
just resort to using PIT/repartition as your last option
Again I would not recommend repartition when tab still under warranty. Repartition the last resort only if the tab is without warranty after failing all other alternatives.

After a full hangup, your stock hc is your first step out of the dark!
Best of luck

Ok I'm gonna do it. There are dozens of versions of HC for the 6800 though, can I just pick any or do I need to find out what it was running out of the box? Mine came from Singapore.

[Q] Re-Partitioning the SGH-I727(R)

Hi All,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE (SGH-I727R, but the same as the SGH-I727) and was wondering how a guy would go about re-partitioning the internal storage on the phone.
The phone has 16gb of internal memory. This has been partitioned, from what I can see, into 2gb and 12gb. The 2gb 'system' partition where your OS and apps, etc are installed and the 12gb storage partition for things like photos, music, movies, etc.
I don't store anything on my phone, mostly just photos. So i have approximately 9gb of the 12gb of the 'storage' partition available. However, the 'system' partition is pretty much maxed out. I'm running Vincom's Superlite CM10.2 rom with minimal apps installed, but it says that i only have around 160mb available and I've begun to received the 'low storage space' error/notification.
I understand that I can use Odin to re-partition the device but that I require .pit files in order to do so. Furthermore, the stock .pit files wouldn't change the size of the partitions. Ideally I'd like to increase the size of my 'system' partition and reduce the size of my 'storage' partition.
Can anyone out there help me? Please let me know if you need more info from my device.
That's not gonna happen

how come?
messing around with the partitions will most likely hardbrick the device so no one would ever try doing it, the only way your system partition is filling up is if you are manually installing apps into that partition or the partition is messed up, odin back to stock, then wipe everything including preload then do a fresh install of a custom rom
Will do, I'll update later with results. It's weird though, i haven't manually changed the default installation locations for apps, they just automatically install there. I'll wipe and format everything, odin back to stock, flash the latest version of TWRP and then flash SL CM10.2 and let you know.
Thanks for the help Vincom.
PS - Great roms, thank you for the contributions to the community!
Odin'd back to stock, wiped everything (cache, dalvik, system, data, android secure), formatted USB storage, Odin'd TWRP 2.6.3.0 - everything went fine in that respect.
Booted into recovery, went to flash SL CM10.2 (i dropped these in 'external_sd' after formatting usb storage) and got the following error during the 'making sure you really do have the skyrocket and jb radio' sequence:
'assert failed: run_program (" /tmp/test_radio_vers
E:error executing updated binary in zip '/sdcard
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/external_sd/CM-10.2_
Updating partition deatils...'
Seeing as how I'm attempting to flash from stock rom (which was a GB rom) does it matter that the test sequence is looking for a JB radio?
Thoughts?
also noticed that it won't let me wipe 'data' in TWRP... says failed, with the error 'unable to wipe /data'
rebooted into recovery and now it will let me wipe 'data'....wtf is going on with my phone?
you need todo more reading as u need jb radio or else it will not install cm10.2+ and post an error and sometimes after the error twrp should be rebooted to properly unmount/mount partitions, i think the phone is fine, but the user is another matter..........
i guess i didn't really flash a custom rom until after i upgraded to the Rogers release of JB...? Can't remember... anyhoo, could I simply flash your SL Rogers JB 4.1.2 to obtain the JB radio and then flash SL CM10.2?
Or is there a flashable zip for the radios? I could have sword I saw those some place, but i can't find them now...

thanks for acknowledging/tolerating my stupidity/ignorance, both the 'read this before you post' and '1 stop' threads were helpful.
i did have one more perhaps stupid question that wasn't answer in either of those threads (or at least that I could find), I got SL CM10.2 up and running...bare bones. When checking storage in the settings app, it told me that my total space was 1.97gb and that i had 1.92gb free.... cool. I then rebooted into recovery and flashed gapps lite (12mb) and email/exchange. Rebooted my phone, checked my storage and now i have 432mb free...? This is exactly where i started... i have no apps other than what came with SL CM10.2, gapps lite and email/exchange and only have 432mb available.... any ideas as to what's going on here?
comparatively, i checked my 'apps' in settings, the 'downloaded' tab has nothing, the 'on sd card' tab has nothing, and the 'all' tab indicates that i've used 1.5gb of my internal storage, but when i tally up all the apps in the 'all' tab it totals approximately 40mb... I'm really stuck and it's really starting to frustrate me....
You're frustrating everyone. Do some reading bro.

went back and factory reset my phone and even though the apps are all still there, it now says i have 1.92gb available... any idea what might be going on?

Sounds like you may have been installing the ROM incorrectly. Also one of the first steps of troubleshooting odd issues is a factory reset (Which MUST be done when installing roms of different types) Coming from TW and going to CM like you did requires FULL wipe!!

A response like that is not going to help you get too much help around here. @xcrazydx is correct. It sounds like you need to do some more ready.. especially if you are thinking of messing with partitions.
OK wow thread didn't load before I tried to answer lol. Anyway dude is a brick in the making.

i did factory wipe before and after flashing each of the roms. As i stated above, the storage glitch occurred after installing gapps and email/exchange... i only wiped cache/dalvik after installing those two. I suppose i should have factory wiped to be safe...
The reason i came asking about repartitioning and .pit files was because i had already searched and found a dev that had created custom partition tables (pit files) but they were for a different phone. I just wondered if anyone in this forum had seen and/or created them.
If not, that's cool, but i figured I'd ask. The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask!
